‘The hottest and funniest was Klopp. He’s just a great guy who makes you laugh out of the field,’ Boateng told Sport1.

‘He is also an outstanding trainer. Klopp is one who has everything. I celebrate him because he is emotional and doesn’t hide it.

‘He’s like a fan on the pitch. I love that. But I was lucky because I often had the right coach.’

  • KP Boateng, Alphonso Davies, 10 other footballers who switched nationality

“Wherever I lay my hat, that’s my home,” said Marvin Gaye in 1962.

Though the soul legend is extremely unlikely to have written the song with soccer players in mind, many have adopted the sentiment when it comes to choosing which international team to represent.

Whether it’s because of a childhood move, ancestry, or simply a desire for more game time, all 12 of the following players have chosen to swap their nationalities in order to represent a different country.

    Gonzalo Higuain (France to Argentina)

Higuain is one of only three foreign born players to have represented Argentina at a World Cup. Born in Brest, France, the Juventus striker moved to Argentina with his family aged just 10 months, but only became an Argentine national in 2007.

He still holds his French citizenship today.

    Riyad Mahrez (France to Algeria)

Born in France to Algerian parents, Mahrez spent his whole career in his country of birth prior to his move to England in 2014.

While eligible to play for France, he instead chose to go back to his roots and play for Algeria in 2013.

    Kalidou Koulibaly (France to Senegal)

Koulibaly was born and raised in France, and had even represented the country at U20 level, however chose to switch allegiances to Senegal in 2015.

The Napoli defender said he did so, according to the BBC, because he wanted “to write the story of the future of Senegal football.”

    Ivan Rakitic (Switzerland to Croatia)

Ivan Rakitic had already turned out for Switzerland’s U17, U19, and U21 national teams before he decided to accept the call-up to Croatia in 2007.

The FC Barcelona midfielder was eligible to switch through his parents.

    Diego Costa (Brazil to Spain)

Having already played for Brazil, Diego Costa was in line to star for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s at the 2014 World Cup on home turf.

However in late 2013, Costa requested to switch his nationality to Spain, who he then represented at the tournament.

Unsurprisingly, he was the most hated man in Brazil that summer, with Scolari accusing him of “turning his back on a dream of millions.”

Alfredo Di Stefano (Argentina to Colombia, Colombia to Spain)

Di Stefano represented his country of birth, Argentina, just six times before deciding to play for Colombia in 1951, despite not holding a Colombian passport.

Just four appearances later, he swapped allegiances again, this time to Spain — he was banned from representing Argentina due to his games for Colombia. He went on to make 31 appearances and score 23 times for Spain.

    Alphonso Davies (Ghana to Canada)

One of the biggest talents to have ever emerged from the MLS, 19-year-old Alphonso Davies was born in a refugee camp in Ghana after his parents had fled the civil war in Liberia.

When he was five, he and his family moved to Canada, where he made a name for himself with the Edmonton Strikers and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

In 2017, he passed his Canadian citizenship test and has since played 17 times for the Canucks.

Neven Subotic (United States to Serbia)

Neven Subotic would have been a United States player had it not been for former USMNT head coach Thomas Rongen, who chose not to call him up in 2006 due to his perceived lack of progress in Germany with FSV Mainz.

Rongen was heavily criticized, including by Subotic, for the decision, and the defender instead went on represent Serbia at the 2010 World Cup, as well as win two Bundesliga titles.

Wilfried Zaha (Ivory Coast to England, England to Ivory Coast)

Though he was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Zaha was selected to represent England having lived in the UK since the age of four.

He went on to play just twice for the Three Lions, however, before asking to FIFA to switch his allegiance back to the Ivory Coast in 2016 in the hope of getting more game time.

To date, the Crystal Palace forward has earned 17 caps for the Elephants, scoring five times.

Christian Benteke (DR Congo to Belgium)

Benteke was born in Kinshasa, DR Congo’s (formerly Zaire’s) capital city, in 1990, however his family fled to Belgium when he was three to escape the Mobutu regime.

He’s since played for Belgium at every level since U17 and remains a steady fixture in Roberto Martinez’s current set up.

    Kevin-Prince Boateng (Germany to Ghana)

The Boateng brothers (Jerome and Kevin-Prince) were both born and raised in West Berlin, Germany.

Both represented Germany’s youth teams, however while the former stayed the course all the way to the men’s team, the latter instead chose to represent Ghana.

KPB was given a Ghanaian passport in 2009 courtesy of his father’s connection with the country, according to Kick Off.

    Eusebio (Mozambique to Portugal)

Eusebio is famed for his exploits with Portugal, whom he helped finish third at the 1966 World Cup, winning the Golden Boot in the process, however the he was actually born and raised in Mozambique.

The “Black Panther” played for a Benfica feeder team in Mozambique before eventually moving to Lisbon when he was 18-years-old.

  • I’m not happy with how it went: Kevin-Prince Boateng on playing for Fiorentina

Ghana forward Kevin-Prince Boateng has opened up on the difficulties he encountered playing for Fiorentina under coach Montella.

The 33-year-old Ghanaian joined from Sassuolo in the summer and featured 14 times in the Serie A, scoring only one goal.

He made only 14 appearances for Fiorentina before being shipped out to Turkish side Beskitas in January. At Beskitas he has featured in six games with two goals to his credit.

Boateng feels unhappy about how things went with Fiorentina, which he also apportion some of the blame to ex-coach Montella.

“To make the most of it, many details must match, I arrived in Florence with great desire. It was the right place with a hot fan. With the shirt number ten I had the pressure to make an extra goal or an assist”, he said in an interview.

“I’m not happy with how it went. I’m angry, they haven’t seen the real Boateng. Montella? We did not understand each other. He changed the idea he had at the beginning, he no longer wanted the attacker to go towards the ball. “, he added.

  • Ibrahimovic gave me balls I dreamed of at Milan – Boateng

Kevin-Prince Boateng has hailed the influence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan, claiming the Swede gave him the “balls he dreamed of.”

Ibrahimovic is at Milan for the second time after shining during the 2010-2011 Serie A-winning season alongside Boateng. Both men were summer recruits that year, and had a hand in a combined 31 top-flight goals.

Boateng has advised Milan to keep hold of Ibra who is on a short-term contract.

“Milan must keep him [Ibrahimovic], he knows how to make a difference,” the 33-year-old Ghana international told Sky Sports Italia. “It was easy for me to play with him, I understood it immediately. He asks a lot of his teammates, but he gave me a lot of space, he gave me balls that I dreamed of.

“He was the perfect companion. He criticised everyone if he didn’t get the ball well or if you were wrong in front of the goal, but in doing so he was teaching.”

Boateng himself, who is now at Besiktas, on loan from Fiorentina, had a second Milan spell between January and June 2016. He says he was convinced to return by long-time club president and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

“Berlusconi convinced me at the exact moment he called my number,” the Berlin-born forward said. “The day after me and my agent went to him to Arcore, he asked me: ‘My son, why don’t you come back?’; I replied: “Right away” . He didn’t give a damn about the holidays.”

AC Milan have experienced a dry patch since their Serie A triumph nine years ago, changing managers regularly with consistently inconsistent results. Boateng, however, sees former Schalke boss Ralf Rangnick as an ideal coach for the Rossoneri.

“He [Rangnick] can help a lot, he looks at football and beyond,” Boateng said. “He is a very intelligent person who evaluates many details. What he has built proves it. He knows how to talk to the players and this is his key.”

AC Milan are currently seventh in Serie A, 12 points away from the top four, and three points adrift of the final Europa League qualification spot.

  • Fiorentina yet to see the real me – Kevin-Prince Boateng

Kevin-Prince Boateng is upset with how his stint at Fiorentina has gone, asserting the club never saw his real self.

The 33-year old Ghanaian joined from Sassuolo in the summer and featured 14 times in the Serie A, scoring only one goal.

Just six of those 14 outings were starts and he completed 90 minutes once. He was subsequently shipped to Besiktas on loan where he has played more than half of the total number of minutes at Fiorentina in just six games, scoring two goals.

“I really came to Fiorentina with great desire. It was the right place, with hot fans,” Boateng told Sky Sports Italia.

“Then I took the 10 [jersey] and I always had the pressure to score a goal or an extra assist.

“I’m not happy with how it went. In fact, I’m still a little angry because we haven’t seen the real Boateng.

Boateng went on to open up about the difficulties he had working with Vicenzo Montella who was Fiorentina boss upon his arrival. The former Tottenham Hotspur player also talked about his respect for Sassuolo boss Roberto De Zerbi, but has no intentions of returning there.

“We [Boateng and Montella] didn’t understand each other,” he continued.

“An idea then he changed and for example, he no longer wanted the centre forward to meet the ball.”

“De Zerbi brought me back the desire to play football and have fun. He is one of the strongest coaches I have ever had.

“Going back to Sassuolo? He doesn’t want me anymore, I have already left twice [for Barcelona and Fiorentina].”

“Then Ibrahimovic. He’s on a different level, he can play alone. And then Pirlo.”

He added that among the three players, Lionel Messi can guarantee you a win in every game.

“Through his self-confidence. He didn’t care whether we played against Leverkusen or Bayern Munich. He didn’t give a shit. He simply had this self-image, which everyone has to orientate on him. This helped our entire team at this point. And of course, he could also kick very well.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday to announce his first squad since assuming duty in January, Akonnor said he “did not think Boateng wants to come and play” based on their recent discussion.

On Wednesday, Boateng commented on social media after a comment by a fan about the player not being given an opportunity by the Ghanaian media to explain his side of the story after the World Cup incident.

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng declares love for Turkey

Former Ghana International Kevin-Prince Boateng is on loan from AC Fiorentina to Besiktas Istanbul in Turkey.

And it has become clear early on, It could be more than just a friendship, because Boateng is characterized by a special feature.

Ibrahim Tatlises is an icon. He shaped arabesque music like no other, sold millions of albums, played in numerous Turkish blockbusters and became a cult figure that is second to none.

His fame extends beyond the borders. He is particularly popular in the Middle East due to his style, concerts in the Arab region were always sold out, combined with crowds that were frenetically waiting for their Messiah

Did Kevin-Prince Boateng need the Harald Schmidt show to take Ibo to his heart? Probably not. Born in Wedding, grew up in Berlin, in the midst of Turks, Kurds, and Arabs, culture was no stranger to him. When Boateng lists the languages ??he knows today, he also includes Turkish.

So it was no surprise that Kevin-Prince Boateng was in his car last year, recording a video on the streets of Barcelona listening to the popular Tatlises song “Bitanem” and singing along.

In a scene that makes many genuine Turks blush. Bitanem translates to “my only one”, a love song from the Arabesque direction.

A declaration of love that captivated millions. A declaration of love from Boateng, who greets his Turkish followers at the end of the video

Since then, it has only been a question of when Boateng will finally show up in Istanbul to play football.

Because in the past few years there had been repeated tech fights between Boateng and the Istanbul clubs.

Galatasaray is said to have made a specific request last season, but then did not respond.

In winter Besiktas nailed it and borrowed the attacking midfielder until the end of the season.

The joy among Besiktas fans about the last-minute addition was huge.

The clammy club, which is struggling with a heavy debt burden and actually had no room for new players at all, brought in an internationally experienced and respected veteran, which was reason enough to be happy.

But then there is the status of Boateng himself. The man who always had sympathy, although he never played in Turkey.

When Boateng was attacked in Germany for fouling Michael Ballack, Boateng was in favor. When he signed in Barcelona, ??they were happy with him. Guys like Boateng, who have corners and edges, have always been well received on the Bosphorus. Then you forgive one or two escapades

But Boateng made a good impression straight away, scored his first goal for Besiktas on his debut against Gaziantepspor FK and was celebrated afterwards with: Bitanem. “It was a great start, of course. It’s never too late in life, but when I think of the atmosphere, I thought that I could have come earlier.” Boateng is a leader straight away in a team that was put together poorly before the season – also due to lack of funds – and hardly met expectations.

One day before the Boateng change, Besiktas confirmed the return of Sergen Yalcin.

The former legend as number 10 was brought in at the end of January as a new coach, the successor to the hapless Abdullah Avci. “We are still getting to know each other,” says Boateng, but Yalcin knows how to use his new man. Offensive, behind the peaks, with a tendency for the second striker. And it works. Since he also played 14 games in Florence, Boateng didn’t need a lot of start-up time.

But how should it go on? Besiktas is the 13th station in Boateng’s 14th year. “Turkey was still missing from the collection,” Boateng says with a smile: “I don’t know if I wanted to. If you asked a child today, it would say that it would play the whole career at a club to become a legend there. ” But Boateng also gains something positive from his wanderlust: “I have learned different cultures and languages, so I have no regrets.” He can get used to a longer stay in Turkey. “I would like to stay three years, but I have to ask my wife first.” If Boateng stays, he has to do one thing. “If we become champions, I will sing ‘Bitanem’ in the stadium.” Ibo will be happy.

  • Kevin Prince Boateng most talented player I have shared pitch with – Hoeness

Sebastian Hoeness has paid tribute to his former team-mate Kevin-Prince Boateng, affirming that the former Ghana international played better than any other footballer with whom he shared a pitch.

Now 32, the versatile forward moved to Turkey with Besiktas during the January transfer window, his 11th club since leaving Hertha for Spurs in 2007.

And while Kevin Boateng has found it difficult to settle at any one team over the years, Hoeness cannot help but admire his talent.

“I’ve never been on the pitch with a more talented player. He was exceptional in the overall package and was already a crazy man at the time, extremely confident,” he told Goal.

“He didn’t care about anything that would have given him a bloody nose or two.

“But that was one of his great strengths. He knew what he could do and took responsibility.”

Five years Boateng’s senior, Hoeness also revealed the advice he gave his young team-mate when he was just beginning to emerge through the Hertha ranks.

“I was a few years older than him. I remember how I said to him once: ‘Kevin, you are not about whether you will ever become a professional, play in front of many spectators and make a lot of money, it’s all about whether you win titles or just play along’.” Hoeness added.

“In the beginning there was actually a risk that he would not quite make it to the top. Then it clicked and he won titles. I’m happy about that.”

Boateng has made more than 400 appearances at club level since making his senior debut for Hertha in 2005, scoring 62 goals.

He also represented Ghana, the birth nation of his father, on 15 occasions, and was included in the country’s squad for the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, although he was sent home midway through the latter tournament due to disciplinary issues.
Hoeness, the nephew of Bayern Munich great and former club president Uli, is now coaching the Bavarians’ reserve team in the third tier of German football.

But in his early days as a player he shared time at Hertha Berlin with Boateng, who went on to represent the likes of Tottenham, AC Milan and Barcelona in a wandering professional career.
