Ten Hag insists on his role in Man Utd transfer decisions under INEOS – Source

Man Utd Erik ten Hag aims to maintain his influence in Manchester United’s recruitment decisions even after the approval of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment in the club, as per a source reported by ESPN’s Rob Dawson.

A team led by Ratcliffe, the chairman and CEO of INEOS, is poised to take charge of football operations at Old Trafford upon finalizing the $1.3 billion deal for a 25% stake.

Sir Dave Brailsford, the director of sport at INEOS, intends to overhaul United’s player recruitment strategy. However, Ten Hag, as per the source, is eager to ensure that he retains a significant role in the decision-making process.

Since assuming the managerial role in 2022, the Dutchman has held a veto on all transfers and wishes to continue playing a major part in determining the ins and outs of players at Old Trafford.

Questions have been raised about United’s transfer policy, notably after spending €100 million to acquire Antony from his former club Ajax.

According to ESPN’s source, the veto is a contractual provision for Ten Hag, and he anticipates this clause to be honoured despite changes in the leadership of the football department.

Ten Hag is scheduled to hold discussions with Ratcliffe, Brailsford, and the rest of the INEOS team ahead of the official ratification of the investment deal.
