Otto Addo names Partey as Black Stars captain after Ayew’s snub

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will captain the Black Stars in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.

This announcement was made by Black Stars coach Otto Addo during a press conference on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, where he also confirmed the exclusion of regular captain André Ayew for these matches.

Otto Addo did not rule out a future return for Ayew but stated that Partey, as the deputy captain, will lead the team in the interim.

He emphasized that Partey’s return is a positive development for the Black Stars as they aim to secure their fifth World Cup qualification.

The Black Stars will face Mali in Bamako on June 6, followed by a match against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on June 10.

Currently, the Black Stars are fourth in Group I with three points from their first two games.
