Manchester United is reportedly monitoring Porto’s goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, in anticipation of Andre Onana’s absence during the 2023 AFCON in January.
Consequently, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Red Devils are exploring options to bolster their goalkeeping department, with Costa being a potential target. Costa has previously been linked to Manchester United and has received praise from some of the club’s players.
It’s important to note that United’s interest in Costa arises from their need for backup in the goalkeeping position rather than Onana’s performance, which has had a slow start to the season.
However, acquiring Costa would likely require a substantial investment of around €50 million (£44 million or $53 million).
At 24 years of age, Costa is three years younger than Onana, offering long-term competition for the Cameroonian international.
Yet, it remains uncertain whether Manchester United’s interest in the Portuguese goalkeeper will translate into a formal offer.
