Manchester City are poised to commence negotiations with England international Phil Foden regarding a new contract.
Foden, 23, has been delivering exceptional performances this season and is a crucial player as City aim to secure their fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Football Insider reports that the Stockport-born talent is seeking a substantial increase on his current contract, which would elevate him to one of the club’s highest-paid players.
In 2022, Foden signed an extension that tied him to the Etihad until 2027, reportedly earning £200,000 a week. However, since then, the 31-cap international has emerged as one of Pep Guardiola’s most indispensable players and played a pivotal role in their Treble success last season.
Guardiola recently praised Foden as the “best player in the Premier League right now,” further bolstering his case for improved terms.
During his seven years with the champions, Foden has amassed over 250 appearances and secured 12 major trophies.
While it’s unlikely that he would ever actively seek to leave his childhood club, a breakdown in contract talks would undoubtedly alert Europe’s top clubs.
