Ghana hosted over 13,000 athletes and officials from across Africa for the first time in history from March 8 to 23, 2024, across ten venues, and secured an impressive total of 69 medals.
Akufo-Addo expressed his delight to the Local Organizing Committee, who visited Jubilee House on Wednesday to convey their appreciation.
The delegation was led by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and included Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Dr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah, Reks Brobby, Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams, Eva Okyere, Joyce Datsa, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Ahmed Osumanu, and Kwesi Mantey..
“One of the highlights of my presidency is the way in which my fellow peers congratulate me wherever I go on the success of the African Games,” President Akufo-Addo said.
“The whole continent has felt enhanced and elevated by it. Moussa Faki Mahamat [President of the AU Commission] was talking about the Games.”
“It is one of the things he believes has happened recently that has done a lot to raise the image of the continent so I have to thank all of you for your contribution, hard work and dedication to duty that has made it possible for this Games.”
The LOC Executive Chairman, Dr. Ofosu-Asare also told the President: “You’ve been with us throughout, through thick and thin and your commitment to Ghana hosting the African Games was infectious.”
”Words cannot describe how grateful we are to you. You also availed yourself at the opening and closing ceremonies and you really ‘wowed’ the crowd. Everybody was excited to see you there.”
