Ghana Football legend Mohammed Polo details the type of coach Black Stars needs

Ghana Football legend Mohammed Polo has opened up on the type of coach the Black Stars need at the moment.

Following the resignation of Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars, the Ghana Football Association has been on a hunt for a new coach.

The Ghana FA are expected to name a new coach for the national before the closure of January, with over 60 foreign coaches applying for the top job.

In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the 1978 AFCON winner implored the Ghana FA to appoint a coach who is abreast with the country’s football history and understands the style of play.

“At the moment, we need a coach who have an idea about our football history, understands our style of play because football is evolving and other countries are coming up. Things has become difficult for us because we have deviated from our style”

“Recent coaches have refused to go by our style and that is affecting us. They have brought their style leaving ours behind”

“Going forward, the Ghana FA should ensure they appoint a coach who understands our style of football. At first, people used to call us the Brazil of African football but it seems we have deviated from that style and that is not helping us as a country”

Meanwhile, local media reports suggest the FA has shortlisted three coaches for the Black Stars job.

Chris Hughton, Manchester United assistant coach Steve McClaren and Hector Cupper are said to be on the list.

The Black Stars will return to action in March for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
