Barcelona has no plans to seek a replacement for the injured Gavi during the upcoming winter transfer window, as acknowledged by the club’s sporting director, Deco.
He stated that the Spain international is considered “irreplaceable.”
When asked about Gavi, Deco told EFE: “At present, he is a footballer who is irreplaceable. He cannot be replaced. There is no player available on the market to do his job, neither with his mentality nor with his ability.
Discussing replacing Gavi is a mistake; it is a mistake to think that we are going to find a player to replace him. We will not find him. We are not going to go crazy with Gavi’s injury. It is sad for him and for us as a club, but we will not find a replacement.”
Gavi’s injury creates an opportunity for Vitor Roque’s potential arrival in January. According to LaLiga rules, Barcelona can allocate 80% of Gavi’s earnings towards the wages of a new signing during the upcoming transfer window.
“With Gavi’s injury, a new scenario arises and we are going to evaluate it based on what we can do,” Deco said.” First, finding a replacement for Gavi is impossible.
“Second, incorporating another player will depend on what suits us best. Whether it is one or two [another besides Vitor Roque] will depend on the economic margin.”
However, Deco says the chances of making a top signing in January are slim.
“In January, the important players play for their teams and I don’t see it as easy to sign an important player who can give us things in the winter market.”
