Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has stood firm on his decision not to apologize to Despite Media following a contentious interview on the United Showbiz programme hosted by MzGee.
Medikal expressed that the interview should have centered on his successful Indigo 02 concert rather than other personal issues.
During a discussion with Bola Ray on Starr FM, he insisted that Despite Media owes him an apology for invading his privacy.
“I am not apologizing to anyone. If MzGee were interviewing a minister, she wouldn’t ask about the minister’s wife and irrelevant matters. Therefore, there’s no need for me to apologize. I did nothing wrong. The interview was meant to discuss my event, and they disrespected that focus, so they owe me an apology,” he stated.
Incident During the Interview:
The controversy arose after reports surfaced that Medikal and actress Fella Makafui had ended their four-year marriage.
During a phone interview post-concert, MzGee asked, “Last week on this program, Fella was asked about your concert, and she wished you well. I know her new film is premiering this week. What are your thoughts on that?”
Medikal, visibly annoyed, responded, “Do you understand what you’re asking? You’re acting like a marriage counsellor, which is inappropriate. The call was to discuss the concert. It was a triumph, and I’m happy for everyone. We had an incredible show; let’s focus on that. BBC World featured me today, and I’m gaining significant recognition. Why ask these questions? I’m sure you’re not with your first-ever boyfriend. Life goes on, so let’s celebrate my international success instead of dwelling on these topics.”
Prior to the concert, Medikal had announced on Twitter that he and Fella Makafui were no longer together, stating, “Fella is no longer my wife; she’s the mother of my child, and we’re co-parenting now, which is fine.”
Medikal’s Mother’s Involvement:
Kwasi Aboagye, host of Peace FM’s Entertainment Review, disclosed that Medikal’s mother contacted him about her son’s conduct.
She encouraged Aboagye to openly discuss her son’s past behavior and disrespect toward Despite Media, even suggesting that the broadcaster reprimand Medikal if necessary.
According to Aboagye, Medikal’s mother also apologized to Despite Media’s staff and its proprietor for her son’s offensive remarks.
“Medikal’s mother reached out to me. She gave me the go-ahead to speak on her son’s matter, even if it meant criticizing him. She also wanted me to publicly convey her deepest apologies to Despite Media Group for her son’s actions. She’s sorry for whatever her son said about Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Fadda Dickson, MzGee, and others. She said that it is not her son’s usual behavior,” Aboagye shared on the Entertainment Review show on Peace FM.
Meanwhile, Medikal’s friend, Shatta Wale, claimed that Despite Media’s Managing Director, Fadda Dickson, had reached out to Medikal to offer an apology for the incident on the show.
