During a recent appearance on Desmond Kwesi Blackmore known popularly as D-Black‘s Unkut show, comedian Derick Kobina Bonney popularly known as DKB shared a personal experience prompted by rapper Trigmatic’s recollection of finding him in tears.
Trigmatic recounted encountering DKB at Trade Fair, where the comedian looked visibly upset.
“I met DKB at Trade Fair sometime ago. I was supposed to perform, but they hadn’t called me yet. So, I decided to walk around. I noticed someone sitting in a car with the engine running, and I thought, ‘That must be DKB.’ I approached him and asked, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ I could see that his eyes were red, and tears were welling up,” Trigmatic explained.
Taking ownership of his experience, DKB revealed that the cause of his distress was a recent heartbreak. His then-girlfriend had abruptly ended their relationship, citing his belly fat as the reason.
“I was there, and she said I gained belly fat, so she couldn’t continue with me. Do you know the painful part? I had paid for a gym for her to get in shape,” DKB recounted.
The comedian further explained that the breakup occurred just a week before the Dumsor vigil, a protest where entertainment industry figures demonstrated against the government’s handling of erratic power supply.
“This girl tore me apart… ‘she can’t continue with me because I am gaining belly fat, and it’s not attractive for her.’ And this was a week to Dumsor vigil, so the anger on my face during Dumsor vigil was not for John Mahama; Mahama was innocent,” he shared.
