Afrobeat singer, Kelvyn Boy, is of the view that the dreams of many unsung-artistes have been killed due to teachings of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church.
As a guest on the McBrown programme on Onua TV, Kelvyn Boy describes the church’s regulations as excessive, while lamenting the retribution one faces for going contrary to them.
“The SDA doctrines and training have curbed numerous talents. The church’s regulations are excessive. Any slight deviation is seen as contamination, and so on,” he said.
Kelvyn Boy was once an Adventist. During his childhood days, he used to sing in church. He believes that he got his ‘music gene’ from his father, who was also a singer.
“My father was a singer, so I inherited my singing prowess from him. I remember a particular instance when I was permitted to minister in the church. I was so young that they had to place me on a table so that everyone could see me sing,” he recounted.
But according to him, that opportunity was revoked, which left him “devastated.”
For now, he hopes the church would be able to take a look at its teachings to ensure it does not derail the growth of creativity.
