Singer Joss Aikins, according to renowned highlife musician Pat Thomas sparked his passion for singing.
Thomas said his music career started at the age of 22.
Speaking on Asaase radio, Pat Thomas said: “There was Broadway Dance Band and there was a singer, Joss Aikins whose voice I mimicked.”
The highlife legend said growing up, he also listened to several musicians who helped to shape his career in music.
“I listened to Ella Fitzgerald, Miriam Makeba and others but I particularly enjoyed Stevie Wonder so much in addition to Joss Aikins”
“Nobody taught me how to play the guitar; I learnt it on my own and then it was improved upon by Uncle Ebo Taylor.”
The legendary highlife musician was born in Agona in Ashanti Region on 14 August 1946.
He started his musical career in the 1960s where he collaborated with Ebo Taylor In 1974, he formed the band “Sweet Beans” and recorded his first album, ‘False Lover’.
Pat Thomas recorded his second album ‘Pat Thomas Introduces Marijata’ with the band Marijata.
