Nigerian sensation Ayodeji Balogun, widely known as Wizkid, recently revealed that, despite his numerous accolades, streaming triumphs, and chart-topping successes, he believes his musical journey is just starting.
In an exclusive interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Wizkid shared, “The journey is about to begin for Wizkid. I don’t see myself as someone who has achieved something major yet. For me, music is a forever thing.”
Wizkid, one of Africa’s most decorated artists, boasts an impressive record as one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s most streamed musicians on various platforms.
He holds the title of the second most followed Nigerian artist on social media, right after Davido.
Notably, Wizkid clinched a Grammy for his contribution to Beyonce’s “Lion King” album, and his hit track “Essence” featuring Tems is also in contention for a Grammy.
December saw the release of his latest musical endeavour, the “Soundman Vol. 2” EP, a four-track project featuring vibrant collaborations with industry heavyweights Wande Coal and Zlatan Ibile.
Surprisingly, Wizkid’s musical hiatus seems to be on hold, as he initially hinted at taking a five-year break just a month before the EP’s release.
The Afrobeats star mentioned considering pursuits in football or golf during his break, but with the unveiling of his latest project, it appears that fans can expect more from Wizkid sooner than anticipated.
