Culinary expert, Chef Abdul-Razak Failatu, widely known as Chef Faila, claimed the spotlight as she declared herself the first Ghanaian to apply for a Guinness World Record(GWR).
The announcement was made during an appearance on the United Showbiz on March 2, 2024, where she confidently asserted her status and threw down a challenge to anyone contesting her claim.
Chef Faila asserted that she submitted her application in June 2023, dismissing Afua Asantewaa’s attempt at the longest singing marathon in December 2023, alleging that Asantewaa applied in September.
However, the excitement around Chef Faila’s bid to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual took an unexpected turn.
In a press release shared on her Instagram page on Sunday, March 3, Chef Faila disclosed that her attempt fell short of meeting the strict guidelines set by the Guinness World Records (GWR).
The statement explained, “A violation of the rest break rules resulted in an unsuccessful attempt.”
Despite her efforts, Chef Faila was unable to surpass the official 119-hour record set by Irish chef Alan Fisher.
Chef Faila commenced her non-stop cooking marathon on January 1, 2024, at the Modern City Hotel in Tamale.
Over 227 hours, she cooked an array of Ghanaian dishes, aiming to beat Fisher’s record.
The event drew widespread attention, with public figures, celebrities, and politicians showing support, visiting her at the hotel and cheering her on.
Chef Faila expressed pride in the impact she made during the cookathon, showcasing Ghanaian food and culture while creating economic opportunities for vendors and businesses.
She conveyed her gratitude to all those who supported her, acknowledging the outcome and accepting it with grace.
