Ghanaian actress, producer, and entrepreneur Fella Makafui opened up about her absence from the latest season of the popular TV series, YOLO.
Despite gaining significant exposure from her role in the show, Makafui explained her decision not to participate in the recent season.
The actress expressed her disinterest in reprising her previous role as “Serwaa,” citing a desire for a more challenging role.
Makafui disclosed her past experience selling bread and her reluctance to continue portraying similar characters on screen.
Instead, she expressed a keen interest in portraying “Emily,” Cyril’s girlfriend, a departure from her previous roles.
Makafui’s decision to decline the “Serwaa” role stemmed from her belief in her capabilities and a desire for roles that showcased her range as an actor.
She said in a recent interview on TV3’s “The Afternoon Show “I declined taking the role of Serwaa… I believed so much in myself that back then I did not know that as an actor, I had to go through that process. I wanted to play the role of Emily, but I was told to act as Serwaa, and I didn’t want to because I was selling bread for my mother even before coming to Accra, so why would I be doing the same in a movie?”
She emphasized her journey from humble beginnings and her aspiration for more dynamic characters in her acting career.
This revelation sheds light on the complexities actors face in navigating their roles and the importance of challenging oneself creatively.
