Nigerian music star David Adedeji Adeleke known popularly as Davido has revealed insights into his relationship with his wife, Chioma Avril Rowland, sharing that they met during a period when he wasn’t financially stable.
Unlike the common narrative of struggling to find authentic love amidst fame, Davido considers himself fortunate to have connected with Chioma before his rise to prominence.
Reflecting on his early days, Davido expressed the significance of meeting Chioma during a time of financial challenge.
He believes that encountering her before achieving fame was crucial, as it allowed their relationship to blossom without the complications of wealth and status.
Davido highlighted the difficulty he might have faced in considering marriage later on, suspecting that women might be drawn to him solely for his success.
He emphasised the joy of having a close circle of friends who knew him before his fame, contrasting it with the notion of forming relationships with new acquaintances after becoming successful.
“I have a friend, anytime I am on the phone with my wife, he would say he has everything in the world, but a wife is what he is missing. I met my wife before I had money, but I was telling myself if I didn’t meet her before then and now I am single, and I meet a girl, it wouldn’t be the same. I would feel the lady is talking to me because I am Davido and I have money.
“My success is when I see people around who were there when I had nothing and they see me now, that’s the feeling, not like when you blow up and start hanging out with a new set of people. You need to keep the people that were there with you since grinding,” Davido stated.
According to Davido, the genuine support and companionship of those who witnessed his journey from the beginning hold greater value than superficial connections based on wealth.
Chioma, corroborating their story, mentioned that they first crossed paths while they were both in school.
Their introduction came through a mutual friend who was dating one of Davido’s acquaintances, marking the beginning of their enduring relationship.
