Popular Nigerian artist Spyro recently shared the challenges he faced in pursuing a music career against his father’s wishes.

Despite having a talent for drawing, Spyro’s father initially prevented him from becoming a professional artist.

Undeterred, Spyro transitioned to music, only to face resistance once again from his pastor father.

In a candid interview with Taymesan on the Tea With Tay podcast, Spyro revealed the struggles he faced when his father disagree vehemently with his decision to pursue a career in music.

Despite the opposition, Spyro successfully navigated the hurdles and emerged as the hitmaker behind “Who’s Your Guy.”

Spyro, who had a background in fine arts and excelled in the church choir and drum set during his primary school years, recalled the intense conflict with his father. He shared, “Being a pastor, my dad never wanted me to do music. It was war. But I knew it was what God has called me to do.”

To finance his passion, Spyro resorted to unconventional means, such as selling recharge cards to cover his expenses and fund studio time for recording.

Reflecting on his journey, Spyro expressed determination to follow his calling despite the initial obstacles imposed by his father.

The singer emphasized, “After my secondary education, I started recording songs at the studio. I was selling recharge cards back then because I had to make ends meet even though I had parents that were feeding me. But I had to hustle to pay for my lifestyle and book studio time.” Spyro’s story stands as a testament to his resilience and commitment to pursuing his musical dreams against all odds.
