Renowned Ghanaian blogger Augustus Koranteng Kyei, popularly known as Kobby Kyei, has urged for a united effort among stakeholders to regulate the social media space.

Emphasizing the necessity for content creation space regulation, Kobby Kyei highlighted the potential dangers faced by content creators due to the lack of oversight in the social media landscape.

Expressing concern about the negative impact of non-regulation, Kobby Kyei pointed out that social media has become a vital avenue for employment, stressing the need for policymakers to ensure a safe environment for content creators.

“A lot of people have graduated from school and have capitalized on social media and it is saving the unemployment rate. What are the policy makers doing in making sure that [ the social media space is safe]. I think that we should make it a point to meet some stakeholders on the content creation space because Warris was complaining about the Paypal and all that.

“People are also messing up in the space and they are getting a lot of numbers whether it is benefiting people or destroying people, you have no clue. So, I believe that the policy makers should have a conversation about how they can meet stakeholders in the content creation space or social media…there is a lot of money in the space and so they must protect us,” he said on The Afternoon Show, Monday, February 19.

During his appearance on The Afternoon Show, he urged a dialogue with stakeholders in the content creation space to address issues such as payment platforms and overall safety.

Kobby Kyei also advocated for education on social media at the basic level, encouraging the Ghana Education Service (GES) to incorporate it into the curriculum.

He emphasized that social media is the “new era,” and educating young individuals on its responsible use is crucial for success.

“To GES, I think that they must also educate the young ones coming from basic to senior high school and to university. Don’t always try to teach them to apply for jobs after school. They need to know that social media is not always standing in front of your camera and shaking your body.”

Joined by Anita Akufo and Godwin Namboh on The Afternoon Show, Kobby Kyei delved into the financial benefits of social media and discussed how the youth can leverage this powerful tool for the betterment of society.
