On February 11, 2024, in the aftermath of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Côte d’Ivoire emerged victorious by defeating Nigeria in the finals with a decisive goal scored by Dortmund star Sebastian Haller.
This triumph secured Côte d’Ivoire’s third AFCON trophy, placing them alongside Nigeria and leaving both nations trailing behind Ghana by one trophy.
Following their qualification for the AFCON finals, Nigeria had boldly proclaimed themselves as the ‘Giant of Africa’ and had engaged in extensive trolling of Ghanaians on social media. However, their hopes were dashed when they were defeated by Ivory Coast with a 2-1 scoreline.
The defeat of their arch-rivals Nigeria and their failure to claim the AFCON 2024 trophy has brought heightened excitement and satisfaction to Ghanaians, including celebrities.
Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, among others, joined in the teasing of Nigerians, singling out his colleagues Odumodublvck and BlaqBonez for special mention. He recalled the playful banter from his Nigerian counterparts when Ghana was eliminated from the AFCON in the group stages.
Seeking to return the banter in kind, Black Sherif engaged in playful exchanges on social media, reminiscent of the interactions with Odumodublvck and BlaqBonez from weeks prior.
However, Black Sherif’s tweets encountered resistance from many Nigerian fans, who attempted to respond in a similar fashion.
