Captain of Equatorial Guinea, Emilio Nsue, has been crowned the recipient of the Golden Boot Award at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With an outstanding total of five goals scored in just four games, Nsue’s exceptional goal-scoring ability remained unparalleled throughout the tournament.
Despite being a 34-year-old right-back for Intercity in Spain’s third tier, Nsue demonstrated remarkable attacking prowess by netting all five goals across two remarkable performances.
Nsue notably achieved a stunning hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau during Equatorial Guinea’s second group stage match.
He then followed this up with a brace in Nzalang Nacional’s memorable 4-0 triumph over Côte d’Ivoire in their final group stage encounter.
Although he missed a penalty in the round of 16 match against Guinea, where Mohamed Bayo scored the winning goal for Guinea, Nsue’s remarkable goal-scoring contributions earned him the prestigious Golden Boot award.
During the closing ceremony, Nsue was duly recognised and presented with the well-deserved Golden Boot award for emerging as the tournament’s top scorer.
In a separate development, Côte d’Ivoire staged an impressive comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over favourites Nigeria, clinching the title at the Alhassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday.
