A Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, who is embarking on a quest to break the existing Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest cooking time, aiming at 1200 hours has reached out to fellow Ghanaians for their support in this ambitious endeavor.

However, amidst his pursuit, he finds himself facing criticism, with some perceiving it as a competition following Chef Faila’s recent 227-hour cook-a-thon.

Notable individuals like Afua Asantewaa and Chef Faila have made headlines with their record-breaking endeavors, while Executive Chef Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef, quietly joins the ranks with his unique cookathon attempt.

Here are some intriguing details about Chef Ebenezer Smith’s ongoing cookathon:

  • Executive Chef Ebenezer Smith is also recognized as Millennium Chef.
  • Application History: He first applied for approval from the Guinness World Records in July 2023 but faced initial rejection.
  • However, his second attempt in September 2023 was successful, securing approval for February 2024.
  • Commencement Date: The cookathon officially began on February 1, 2024.
  • Initial Duration: Originally planning to break the record by cooking non-stop for 360 hours (equivalent to 30 days).
  • Location: The cookathon is taking place at Amadia Shopping Center on the Community 18 Road of Spintex.
  • Duration Extension: Chef Smith extended his initial 360-hour plan to an impressive 1200 hours, spanning 50 days. This decision was a strategic move to surpass the unofficial record set by a Canadian-based Nigerian, Beauty Obasuyi, who cooked for 448 hours.

Despite these remarkable efforts, Chef Smith’s cookathon has not garnered the expected attention, with online users attributing the lack of enthusiasm to the perception that there was no need to compete with a fellow Ghanaian in the same realm of world records.

It’s worth noting that the current record for the longest cookathon is held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

As Chef Smith continues his culinary marathon, it remains to be seen if he will emerge victorious and secure a place in the prestigious Guinness World Records.
