Social media users on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, are mocking the perceived fear of poisoning within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a viral video surfaced.

The video captures the party’s National Organizer, Nana Boakye, and other officials rejecting bottles of water offered at a funeral ceremony.

Following the recent passing of John Kumah, Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, rumours circulated suggesting that both Kumah and Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, were poisoned after an event in Tamale.

These theories, along with claims of potential assassinations targeting NPP officials due to their political aspirations, lack evidence but have heightened tension within the party.

In the viral video, Nana Boakye and Justin Kodua, the General Secretary of the NPP, are seen refusing to accept water offered to them at a funeral ceremony.

The video has sparked ridicule online, with some users questioning the officials’ alleged fear of poisoning and daring them to accept the water.
