Renowned record producer, Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has challenged the prevailing belief that the Ghanaian music scene is stagnant due to irregular music releases by artists.
In an interview on Accra FM, he emphasised that creativity takes time and argued that musicians worldwide do not release music consistently, using global icon Beyoncé as an example.
Appietus criticised entertainment journalists and pundits who condemn musicians for delays in releasing songs, asserting that the creative process cannot be rushed.
“You cannot say the whole machinery has come to a halt because some artists have not released [new] songs.
“All around the world, artists don’t release music every day of the year, is that not so? Beyonce, for instance, does not release new music every day. After releasing an album, she’ll wait a while before releasing another or a new single,” Appietus stated.
He highlighted the importance of hard work in creating quality music, cautioning against releasing songs hastily, which may result in poor quality and subsequent criticism.
Comparing artists to fruits with unique seasons, he explained that expecting musicians to release music continually throughout the year would be exhausting and could negatively impact their health.
“It takes hard work and if they rush to put out a song, they will again be mocked for releasing a song of poor quality,” he noted.
Appietus, a legendary sound engineer with over 200 songs to his credit, emphasised the significance of managing artists’ schedules carefully to prevent health issues.
