Veteran Nigerian actor and lawyer Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, has responded to the alleged murder of a Ghanaian woman and her Nigerian friend in Abia State, Nigeria.
The victims, Celine Chidinma Ndidum and Ghanaian Afibah Tandoh, were in Aba, the capital of Abia State, to meet with a business partner. They were last seen in April, with reports indicating they were killed by the man they went to visit.
Andrew Amaechi Ochekwo, the alleged kidnapper, was shot and killed by police after attempting to escape while being transported to Abuja.
In a social media video, Kanayo O. Kanayo expressed concern over how easily young people today form friendships and travel to meet people they connect with online.
“With a heavy heart, I address the sad news from Aba. Can you really advise the Gen Z generation on friendships?” he questioned. He highlighted the positive aspects of social media but stressed the dangers of online friendships, recalling a similar case of a woman named Cynthia who vanished after traveling from Abuja to Lagos to meet her boyfriend.
“Now we have Celine and Afibah from Ghana. This is tragic. I don’t know what they call runs or hookups,” he stated, emphasizing that economic struggles cannot justify risking one’s life.
Kanayo, offering his perspective as a father and elder, advised young women to consider the risks of traveling to meet strangers. “Hard work is essential. The truth is bitter, but it must be acknowledged. Young girls doing small businesses deserve appreciation.”
He also warned those who prey on others, stating, “The law will catch up with you.”
