Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the young Ghanaian woman who recently concluded her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, has announced her intention to apply for four additional World Records related to her singing marathon.
She firmly believes that she meets the criteria for these records.
Afua Asantewaa plans to submit applications for being recognised as the first Ghanaian and African female to perform continuously for five days, achieving the longest-lasting musical event in both Ghana and Africa, hosting the first musical show to feature eight DJs in continuous performance over five days, and becoming the first female to undertake a singing marathon.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Afua Asantewaa explained that her recently completed singing marathon satisfies the criteria for these additional records, and she intends to submit each application separately to the Guinness World Records office.
“I think the current attempt I did captures four records, but many haven’t paid attention.
“There are many records that I have broken, but you have to apply for them separately. Currently, we are doing for the longest singing marathon, but it applies to four or five records on their platforms.
“We have submitted the current one, but we are now going to look into the others. We will submit them separately,” she said.
In December 2023, Afua Asantewaa undertook a challenge to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
At the Akwaaba Village in Accra, she dedicated 126 hours and 52 minutes to her singing feat, garnering support from a team of professionals and an enthusiastic crowd of fans.
Throughout her attempt, Afua faced various challenges, including voice strain, fatigue, technical issues, and controversies. Despite these hurdles, she successfully overcame them and reached her goal.
Notably, she exceeded the previous record of 105 hours, which was set by an Indian singer in 2012.
Having completed the marathon, Afua Asantewaa has submitted the necessary evidence of her remarkable achievement to the Guinness World Records for thorough verification and official confirmation.
