Comedian Jacinta Asi Ocansey known popularly as Jacinta shared insights into one of her past relationship experiences during an appearance on Joy FM’s entertainment analysis program, Showbiz A-Z.

She revealed that a former partner disapproved of her comedy career, leading her to end the relationship.

Expressing her frustration, Jacinta conveyed her desire for a partner who understands and supports her professional choices.

Despite being willing to make sacrifices, she emphasised the importance of mutual understanding in a relationship.

Recalling a specific instance, she recounted how she had to let go of a relationship because her partner expressed displeasure about her involvement in comedy.

“I pray to God everyday to give me somebody who will understand that this is my job. I am not saying I am not willing to make sacrifices but at least if I understand you, you too you need to understand me.

“I’ve been in a situation where I’ve had to let a relationship go because he told me ‘this your comedy’, I don’t want to say the rest of the things he said. I just said ‘okay’ and that was it,” Jacinta stated.

In the broader context, many creative women, especially those in showbiz, often face challenges in their relationships.

Some feel compelled to abandon their creative pursuits to accommodate their spouses’ demands, while others prioritise family responsibilities over their careers.

Addressing the topic of taking her future husband’s surname and incorporating it into her stage name, Jacinta dismissed the idea as unnecessary.

She questioned the need for such a practice and humorously remarked that she might update her Instagram profile, highlighting the nonchalant attitude toward adopting a spouse’s surname for professional purposes.

“Why should that even be a problem? I know it happens but what at all…okay, you I will update my Instagram profile.”

Drawing on advice from divorced female creatives, Jacinta acknowledged the potential difficulties of using a husband’s name as a stage name, citing the challenging process of rebranding in the event of divorce.

Beyond relationship dynamics, women in showbiz often encounter additional hurdles, including pay gaps, sexual harassment, and various forms of discrimination within the industry.

Jacinta’s candid revelations shed light on the broader issues faced by women in the creative field.
