West Ham suffered a late collapse as they fell to a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Hammers had defended resolutely for 83 minutes before Lukasz Fabianski was beaten by Jonas Hoffman. Victor Boniface added a second in stoppage time, leaving West Ham with a tough task in the second leg.

Despite missing injured Jarrod Bowen and suspended Edson Alvarez, West Ham showed promise on the counter-attack. Michail Antonio created a good chance for Mohammed Kudus, but their efforts were largely defensive.

Fabianski made several key saves to keep Leverkusen at bay, but he couldn’t prevent Hoffman’s late strike. The task became even harder when Boniface headed in a second.

The result leaves West Ham facing an uphill battle in the second leg, especially with Lucas Paqueta suspended. The Hammers will need a strong performance at the London Stadium to keep their European hopes alive.
