The 2020 parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Oforikrom constituency, Henry Osei Akoto, has likened the campaign strategy of Assin Central’s Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, to that of the current president, Akufo-Addo.
In a tweet, Osei Akoto stated that the MP, who is seeking to secure the NPP’s flagbearer position and potentially become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections, is adopting a campaign style reminiscent of how the president conducted his campaign before winning his initial election.
“The way Kennedy Agyapong is talking is the same way Akufo-Addo spoke before becoming president.
“They are the same,” he wrote.
The National Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to choose a new flagbearer in November 2023.
However, a significant development has shaken up the party’s internal dynamics. One of the prominent contenders in the race, Alan Kyerematen, has opted to withdraw from the competition and subsequently resigned from the party.
Additionally, the former Minister of Trade and Industry has declared his intention to run as an independent presidential candidate in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
