The Pentagon says that fighter planes from the US and UK attacked 18 Houthi sites in Yemen. This is the fourth time that the two countries have worked together on such an operation.
The US targeted storage places, drones, defense systems, radars, and a helicopter of the militant group in Saturday’s strikes.
The UK says that the allies worked to make the Houthi group weaker.
The Iran-supported Houthis are continuously attacking ships in the Red Sea, which is a major trade route.
The Houthis, who are in charge of a lot of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, have been attacking ships that they believe are connected to Israel and the Western countries in reaction to the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza.
The way products are shipped around the world is being affected because some big shipping companies are changing their routes to avoid the Red Sea. This is causing problems and making it more expensive to ship things.
The Pentagon said it attacked 18 Houthi targets in Yemen on Saturday. The targets were where the Houthi group stored weapons and missiles, as well as air defense systems.
“These targeted attacks are meant to stop the Houthis from being able to threaten global trade, ships, and the lives of innocent people in a very important waterway. ”
The Houthis have attacked more than 45 ships since mid-November. This is a threat to the world economy, as well as the safety and stability of the region. It needs a response from the international community.
The strikes were done with help from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, and New Zealand, according to the statement.
Soon after, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said that America will not wait to act if necessary to protect lives and keep trade moving freely in one of the world’s most important waterways.
UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said that it is our job to keep people safe at sea and ensure that ships can move freely.
“That’s why the Royal Air Force attacked Houthi military targets in Yemen for a fourth time. ”
Earlier today, the US military said they destroyed seven Houthi missiles that were going to be used to attack ships.
A few days ago, the crew of a cargo ship from Belize and registered in the UK left their ship in Yemen because it was hit by missiles from the Houthis.

Yemeni strikes meant to be temporary measure – Sunak
The US and UK worked together to attack Houthi targets in Yemen, but it was meant to be a small and one-time thing, according to Rishi Sunak.
The prime minister didn’t say if he would use the military again after the rebel group attacked more ships in the Red Sea.
He said the UK will protect our security, our people, and our interests when needed.
Labour supported the “targeted action”.
However, Sir Keir Starmer, the leader, said in the meeting that any military action must have a clear plan behind it.
He said that the attacks could still cause problems and “we need to prevent things from getting worse in the Middle East”.
The Houthis, a group that runs the north of Yemen and its capital Sanaa, have been attacking cargo ships in the Red Sea since November.
On Thursday, the US and UK launched air attacks on Houthi military sites in retaliation.
Mr Sunak told MPs that the government thinks all 13 planned targets were destroyed, and there’s no proof of civilian deaths yet.
He said the action taken was fair in self-defence and was not meant to make the situation worse.
He said this after American officials said the Houthis shot a missile at a ship owned by the US near Yemen.
Before, the UK Maritime Trade Operations security agency said that a ship near the city of Aden in Yemen was hit by missile fire.
Mr Sunak was asked if he will do more military action if he needs to, he said, “I won’t guess about what might happen in the future. ”
We only wanted to do one thing, and we hope the Houthi’s will stop their attacks now.
Sure We will protect our security, our people, and our interests as needed without hesitation. -
FM demands recall of parliament over Yemeni strikes
Scotland’s leader, Humza Yousaf, wants the UK parliament to meet again to talk about air attacks in Yemen.
Rishi Sunak said it was important to bomb Houthi rebel sites in the UK and US because it was the right amount of force to keep ships safe in the Red Sea.
The military facilities were attacked during the night.
Humza Yousaf said there were important questions that needed to be asked and answered about military action.
He said on BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland show, “The SNP supports the UN security resolution, which is asking the Houthi rebels to stop their attacks in the Red Sea. Let’s not have any doubt about that. ”
“But the UK hasn’t done well with using military force in the Middle East. ”
“Before doing anything, the best thing to do would have been to bring back the parliament and get a thorough explanation about the military action. ”
He said: “There are big questions about what was done. ” What are we trying to achieve. What will count as a win.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the attacks on the Iranian-supported group were to protect UK ships from harm.
Houthi officials said the UK and US will face big consequences.
The US and its allies have launched the first attacks against the Houthi fighters, because they have been attacking ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis are in charge of a big part of Yemen and they are helping Hamas by attacking ships going to Israel. The US Air Force said they hit more than 60 places where the Houthi rebels in Yemen were.
Mr Sunak said that the Houthi rebels are causing problems for UK and international ships and disrupting the trade route.
“The Houthis didn’t listen to the warnings from other countries and still attacked ships in the Red Sea, including ones from the UK and US,” said the prime minister.
This is not acceptable. The UK will always support the freedom for ships to move around and for trade to happen freely.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced that Royal Air Force typhoons did two accurate attacks on Houthi sites. One attack was on an airfield they used to launch drones and missiles over the Red Sea, and the other was on a site where they launched attack drones.
A Houthi leader said the US and UK will regret attacking Yemen.
The group says they will keep on attacking ships in the Red Sea that are going to or connected to Israel.Meanwhile, Mr Yousaf’s wife, Nadia El-Nakla, said that her sister-in-law and her four children were able to leave Gaza.
Her brother works as a doctor at the Al-Nassar Hospital. He is still in the area with other family members.
Ms El-Nakla’s parents went back to Scotland in November after being stuck in Gaza for four weeks when the war with Israel started during their family visit.
She said: “I’m happy that my sister-in-law, Doaa, and their four kids have gotten out of Gaza and are safe now. ”
“But my brother Mohamed is still there with our 93-year-old grandma and many other family members. ”
Ms El Nakla, who works for Dundee government, said that the families in Gaza are still going through a tough time after losing completely innocent people.
She asked the UK government to create a program to help Palestinians move to the UK, like they did for Ukrainian families.
She said, “I will keep speaking out to stop the killing and suffering of the innocent people in Gaza, and ask for a ceasefire right away. ”
The UK government said it was working very hard to help people who want to leave Gaza.
Over 23,350 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, as reported by the health ministry run by Hamas.
During the first attacks by Hamas on Israel, around 1,300 people, mostly civilians, were killed and about 240 others were kidnapped. -
Yemeni missile fire intercepted by US Navy warship
US officials say that a US Navy warship intercepted missiles and drones launched from Yemen by the Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
A spokesperson from the Pentagon said that the missiles have been fired possibly towards places in Israel.
The USS Carney, which is a ship that shoots missiles and can be controlled, was in the northern Red Sea on Thursday.
US soldiers in Iraq and Syria were recently attacked multiple times, according to the Pentagon.
Washington is paying close attention in case Iran-supported groups take action while Israel keeps attacking Hamas targets in Gaza.
The Pentagon’s General Patrick Ryder said that they shot down three missiles and some drones that were coming from Yemen to attack the land.
No one got hurt in the event, and an official from the United States said it didn’t seem like the warship was the intended target.
“He told reporters that we don’t know for sure what these missiles and drones were aiming for, but they were launched from Yemen and heading north along the Red Sea, possibly towards targets in Israel. ”
Brig Ryder said that they are still figuring out the details of the activity and the attack might still be happening.
He said that we responded defensively to a threat in the region where we are able to, to protect our people and partners.
According to the Pentagon, in Iraq, attacks were carried out on several military bases where US and other international forces are stationed using drones and rockets.
One attack hurt only a few soldiers.
Militant groups in Iraq cautioned the US about supporting Israel’s actions against Hamas in Gaza.
On Wednesday, a small flying robot hit American military personnel in Syria, causing only small injuries. Additionally, another small flying robot was successfully taken down.
While I can’t predict what will happen in response to these attacks, I can assure you that we will do everything we can to protect the United States. Brig Ryder said that they will unite with coalition forces to protect against any danger.
In the Middle East, there are different American military locations like bases, where there are warships, soldiers, and fighter planes.
During the last week, the United States has sent two big military ships called aircraft carriers, around 2,000 soldiers who are called marines, and other ships that provide help to the Middle East.
The White House says they have no plans or intentions to use them.
But it means that if necessary, the US military would be ready to protect the country’s security interests.Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who the US believes are responsible for these latest attacks, receive support from Iran.
The Houthis have been involved in a long-lasting conflict with the official government of Yemen, which is supported by Saudi Arabia, since 2014.
The US military leader called Gen Ryder, who works at The Pentagon, said that they are still studying and trying to understand the attacks that happened in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria.
He said that our main goal is to prevent a larger conflict in the region. He also mentioned that there is no evidence linking the recent attacks by Hamas in Israel to any other events happening right now.
