Ghanaian bodybuilder demands $1,000 grand prize 9 months after Africa Muscle Super Show

Ghanaian bodybuilder Martinson Ampadu, widely known as the Rock of Africa, is demanding the $1,000 grand prize he earned as the overall winner of the 2023 Africa Muscle Super Show.

The event organizers, the World Amateur Bodybuilding Association (WABBA), have yet to deliver the prize, causing significant frustration for the champion.

Martinson Ampadu, who emerged victorious nearly a year ago, claims he has not received the promised $1,000 grand prize, despite paying GHS1,000 for his registration.

His victory at the Africa Muscle Super Show, held in September 2023 in Accra, saw him crowned the overall winner after competing against top bodybuilders from Nigeria, Togo, Cameroon, and other African countries.

Ampadu clinched first place in the men’s physique category and then went on to win the ultimate prize of the event, securing his title as the overall champion.

Following his victory, Ampadu expressed his excitement and satisfaction, noting the tough competition he faced. However, his joy has been overshadowed by the disappointment of not receiving his rightful prize from the event organized by WABBA Ghana.

“The competition was not easy, but I came here with one purpose, and that was to win. So, I am glad I did so, and I am grateful to all my fans who offered me moral and financial support to be here.

“I am already looking forward to winning more medals for Ghana in future competitions, and I will keep on working hard to get to the top,” Ampadu said.

Van Calebs, who is the manager of Ampadu, congratulated his athlete for his splendid display at the championship. He urged bodybuilding associations to create more of such competitions, to make Ghanaian bodybuilders very active and offer them enough competition.

“We need more of such competition in Ghana, and currently my athlete is preparing for the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) competition later in September,” he said.
