Ofori-Atta’s prostate cancer surgery was a success – Wife

The robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy performed on former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has been successful.

This information was made known by his wife, Professor Mrs. Angela Ofori-Atta, on Monday, June 16.

In a statement, she disclosed that the surgery was conducted on Friday, June 13, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime,” the statement read.

Ofori-Atta continues to be a central figure in a legal battle, despite his current health condition.

Ofori-Atta has appeared on Interpol’s website for “using public office for profit” after being declared wanted by the OSP.

This was after he failed to appear before the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday, June 2.

His lawyers are said to have formally communicated the development to the OSP and the Human Rights Court, submitting medical reports that detail his current condition and outline scheduled surgical procedures.

The OSP during an engagement with the press on Tuesday, June 3, noted the failure of the former minister to inform the OSP of changes in medical procedure that were to have happened in March of this year.

“He has failed to show any medical report that shows he is a medical risk.”

“We want him physically, and we insist on it,” the OSP said, while noting that Mr Ofori-Atta cannot indicate the mode of investigation.

“His conduct is totally unacceptable. We will no longer tolerate him.”

In February, the OSP declared Ofori-Atta wanted for causing financial loss to the state in several dealings, which include the following:

Contractual arrangement between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority for the stated objective of the enhancement of revenue assurance in the downstream petroleum sector, upstream petroleum production, and minerals and metals resource value chain.

Termination of a distribution, loss reduction, and associated network improvement project contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited and Beijing Xhao Chen Technology BXC.

Procurement of contractors and materials and activities and payments in respect of the National Cathedral project

Activities and payments in respect of a contract awarded by the Ministry of Health initially commenced by the Ministry for Special Development Initiative to service Ghana Auto Group Limited for purchases and after-sales service and maintenance of 307 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 304 5 CDI Ambulances for the National Ambulance Service.

Payments out of and utilization of the tax refund account of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Later, the legal representatives of the former finance minister informed the OSP that their client is currently undergoing medical treatment in the United States and is unable to honor an invitation for questioning.

Ofori-Atta then assured the OSP of its commitment to appearing for questioning on a fixed date, which influenced the OSP’s decision to temporarily take his name off the list in March.

However, the office stressed that he is legally obligated to show up on June 2. Failure to do so, an Interpol Red Notice would be issued and extradition proceedings would be initiated in any country where he may be located.

Ken Ofori-Atta then took legal steps to block the OSP from re-declaring him wanted. His lawsuit argues that the agency’s actions are baseless and unjustified.

Ofori-Atta has dismissed allegations of financial misconduct and corruption, insisting that he has been cooperating with investigators through his legal representatives.

In his court filing, he contends that the OSP’s actions have inflicted serious harm on his reputation and personal life. He is seeking a legal injunction to prevent further declarations against him until the case is fully resolved.

The Human Rights Court has adjourned to June 18 for a ruling on the motion filed by the former Finance Minister, seeking to restrain the OSP from declaring him wanted, among other reliefs.

    INTERPOL Red Notice

A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

It is based on an arrest warrant or court order issued by the judicial authorities in the requesting country. Member countries apply their own laws in deciding whether to arrest a person.

INTERPOL cannot compel the law enforcement authorities in any country to arrest someone who is the subject of a Red Notice.

Each member country decides what legal value it gives to a Red Notice and the authority of their law enforcement officers to make arrests.

Court postpones case involving Salifu Amoako, wife to Feb 17

The legal proceedings involving Elijah Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha, accused of allowing their underage son to drive without a license, have been postponed until February 17.

During a session at the Accra Circuit Court on Monday, both the defense and prosecution approached the judge, leading to the rescheduling of the case.

Bishop Amoako, the General Overseer of Alive Chapel International, his wife, Mouha, and Linda Bonsu Bempah, a sales assistant, were taken into custody following a devastating accident in East Legon on October 12, 2024. Their 16-year-old son, Elrad, is alleged to have caused the crash, which led to the deaths of two young girls.

The charges against Bishop Amoako, his wife, and Linda are based on allowing a minor to operate a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The incident occurred when their son drove a white Jaguar F-Pace Sports, despite not having a license, colliding with an Acura Utility vehicle, which caught fire and caused fatalities.

The three individuals have denied the charges, with each granted bail of GHC50,000, accompanied by two sureties.

Meanwhile, their son Elrad was sentenced to six months in a juvenile detention facility after pleading guilty to charges of manslaughter, dangerous driving, and driving without a license. He is currently serving his sentence at the Senior Correctional Home.

The Circuit Court, under Judge Samuel Bright Acquah, learned that Elrad resides with his mother in Accra. On the day of the accident, while celebrating his older brother Elyon’s birthday, Linda, the third defendant, handed Elrad the keys to his mother’s Jaguar, despite knowing that he was not licensed.

The prosecution states that Elrad was driving with his friend, Prince Tijani, when they collided with an Acura, causing both vehicles to crash into a nearby house wall. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames and burned beyond recognition.

Tragically, the two 12-year-old girls in the Acura, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh Boateng, were unable to escape and lost their lives in the fire.

Elrad and two other individuals were injured and transported to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for treatment.

During the investigation, Bishop Amoako and his wife admitted to permitting their son to drive to the gym and other local destinations in their neighborhood.

I am not allowed to see my sick husband – Wife of Yaw Sarpong

Wife of Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has revealed mistreatment by her husband’s family during his illness.

She initially cared for her husband at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), but circumstances changed.

Her husband asked her to stop caring for him as he was to be moved to a pastor’s place for treatment, which she disagreed with. Later, she discovered Maame Tiwaa attending to him, which upset her.

In an interview with Auntie Naa on Oyerepa FM, she said her husband’s family has barred her from providing care for him.

She recounted, “I’ve been with my husband for 40 years. I was his caregiver at Komfo Anokye Hospital when his illness started. At one point, he told me to stay home and pray for him, as his sister would take him to a pastor for treatment.

“Unhappy with this, I visited him after four days, only to find Maame Tiwaa taking care of him, leading to frustration. His sisters, particularly one abroad, accused me of misusing his funds. My visits are met with hostility from his sisters, who prevent me from seeing him.”

    Yaw Sarpong battles stroke

A few months back, Yaw Sarpong’s manager confirmed his artist was battling a stroke.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb, Nana Poku Ashis revealed that the “Oko Yi” hitmaker had been unwell for more than a year.

“He has been bedridden for over a year now. It started around this time last year. It was really bad when it happened a year ago, but we are hoping that he will regain his strength in the coming months,” Ashis said.

“Everyone needs help. We would need prayers, and those who have and are willing to help can offer him a little. The few people he has impacted with his music should also help,” he added.

Prior to Yaw Sarpong’s manager’s confirmation of his illness, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwaa had already informed the public.

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, contributed a sum of GH¢100,000 to aid Yaw Sarpong’s medical care.

Ghanaian woman fined for assaulting sugar daddy’s wife with boiling soup

In a recent case before the Amasaman Circuit Court, a young Ghanaian woman, Afia Agyeiwaa, has been fined GH₵1,200.00 for throwing boiling palm nut soup at her sugar daddy’s wife, Madam Vida Ntiamoah.

The incident, which occurred in November 2023, resulted in harm to Madam Vida.

Agyeiwaa admitted to the offense when she appeared in court. However, her sentencing was delayed until February 15, 2024.

At the time of the incident, Agyeiwaa was pregnant, and she is now the mother of a two-month-old infant.

During her appearance in court, Agyeiwaa pleaded for leniency. Madam Enid Marfo-Sau, who presided over the case, considered Agyeiwaa’s status as a nursing mother.

Additionally, it was noted that Madam Vida had informed the prosecution that the matter had been resolved amicably at home.

Taking these factors into account, the court imposed a fine on Agyeiwaa for her actions.

During the sentencing proceedings, the court learned that the complainant, Madam Vida, expressed a desire to withdraw the charges against Afia Agyeiwaa.

However, the court deemed it too late to drop the charges, although it took this information into consideration.

According to Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, Madam Vida is a trader residing in Mayera Dunyo, while Afia Agyeiwaa, who was seven months pregnant at the time of the incident, is currently unemployed and also lives in Mayera Dunyo.

Inspector Awuah-Ansah provided further context, stating that Madam Vida’s spouse, Kwadwo Dwuma, is a traditional priest with four children. Agyeiwaa was identified as Dwuma’s girlfriend, which led to tensions between her and Madam Vida.

The prosecution detailed the escalation of the conflict, explaining that Agyeiwaa frequently insulted Madam Vida despite her attempts to ignore the insults. The situation reached a boiling point on September 19, 2023, when Agyeiwaa, who was cooking nearby, verbally abused Madam Vida while she was in her kitchen.

Slaps, cutlass, guns – Denkyira-Oboasi resident narrates how he was brutalized by soldiers after Major Mahama’s murder

A Denkyira-Obuasi resident has narrated an account of what transpired after the brutalization of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama.

Major Mahama was lynched at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region on May 29, 2017, while on duty.

It was later narrated that the military officer had been mistaken for an armed robber.

Following the incident, over 50 suspects were rounded up, out of whom 14 were eventually screened for prosecution.

They are William Baah, then-Assemblyman for Denkyira Obuasi, Bernard Asamoah, alias Daddy, Kofi Nyame, a.k.a. Abortion, Akwasi Boah, Kwame Tuffour, Joseph Appiah Kubi, Michael Anim, and Bismarck Donkor.

The rest are John Bosie, Akwasi Baah, Charles Kwaning, Emmanuel Badu, Bismarck Abanga, and Kwadwo Anima.

One of the two persons who was freed shared his wild story of how he was brutally beaten by the military to the point he couldn’t feel his body and even walk during the military swoop in 2017 to arrest Major Mahama’s murderers.

At the time, his wife was nurturing a three-month-old baby.

“I was at home relaxing when I heard that in the early hours of the morning, the man they were beating that they claimed was an armed robber was not an armed robber but a soldier, and I said, Oh, okay, I didn’t pay attention that much. At 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., I noticed people running; they said the guy who died is a soldier, so the soldiers are coming to the town to arrest the individuals who committed the act. So they were running; I didn’t run; I stayed home,” he narrated.

He added that he was never close to the scene and didn’t even know what Major Mahama looked like, yet he spent 7 years of his life in prison while being innocent.

“I went home to sleep, then at around 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., I heard someone banging on my door; they then slammed my door open. I was brought outside in the presence of nine soldiers, and an additional two were caught along with me. A gun was pointed to my face; I was beaten mercilessly; no one was injured; I was bleeding. At 6 p.m., the commander came over and demanded where the bearded guy was. I was mistaken for another guy in the video who had a beard; I was subjected to an intense beating; I couldn’t walk or do anything; in fact, I couldn’t feel anything; I was innocent; I did nothing wrong; I mean, I did nothing wrong; I didn’t know the face of Major Mahama nor have I seen him before,” the victim narrated.

In an interview on Nhyira FM, she expressed the challenge of waking up to her husband’s name in the news with various comments, but she has developed a tough skin to endure it while maintaining outward calm.

When asked about managing marriage to a politician, she highlighted respect and patience as crucial elements for their successful relationship, recognizing the necessity of sharing a public figure with the nation.

“It is not easy to wake up in the morning and see your husband’s name in the news, with people saying all sorts of things. He is precious to my children, and I am human. I’m sometimes hurt when Ghanaians insult my husband, but I have tough skin to bear it, even though I remain outwardly calm.”

Reflecting on her parents’ marriage, she emphasized implementing the respect her mother showed her father. She advised having a strong mind and a big heart to navigate the diverse challenges of marriage.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the MP for Suame constituency, known for his significant roles in parliamentary leadership, including Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Minister of State at the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, has decided not to seek re-election in 2024 due to age and terms served.

You need a strong mind and a big heart to accommodate everything. Sometimes, you don’t have to react; just have patience, and your husband will reflect.”

NACOC Director Kenneth Adu Amanfoh accused of forcefully taking children from estranged wife

As reported by myjoyonline.com on December 24, 2023, the Director of the Narcotics Control Commission, Kenneth Adu Amanfoh, allegedly inflicted a deep cut to his estranged wife’s hand in Kwadaso Estate, a suburb of Kumasi, during an attempt to forcefully take his children from her.

During the incident, a bystander intervened and rescued the woman and her children, who subsequently sought refuge in a nearby church.

Recounting the ordeal to Luv News, Mrs. Adu Amanfoh detailed the moment when a black Landcruiser intercepted her car, and armed men compelled her to exit the vehicle and forced her to the ground.

“The four men were all armed, wearing desert security camouflage uniforms, with face masks. They carried pistols and a rifle. It was when Kenneth stepped out that I identified him as my husband.

“They ordered me to get out of the car. When I got out, one of the armed men sat in my car and ordered the children to get out of my car but they said no. He ordered them to get into the Landcruiser but they declined and started crying,” she told JoyNews in the interview.

The armed individuals reportedly tried to separate the children from their mother, creating a chaotic scene that attracted a crowd.

In the midst of the turmoil, Kwame Fosu Appiah, a concerned resident, voiced his disapproval, emphasizing the emotional distress inflicted on the children.

Appiah is said to have confronted Amanfoh, challenging the morality of his actions and urging him to reconsider.

After the exchange, Amanfoh allegedly instructed his men to withdraw, taking Mrs. Amanfo’s phone in the process. Unfortunately, she sustained a cut to her palm during the altercation.

The Director of NACOC and his wife have been living separately for a decade, with Mrs. Amanfo asserting that she has been the sole caregiver for their children during this time.

Recent custody demands by Amanfoh culminated in an attempt on Sunday to forcibly take the children, leaving the 12 and 11-year-olds shaken.

In response to the incident, Mrs. Adu Amanfoh has officially lodged a complaint with the Central Police in Kumasi, who have confirmed an ongoing investigation into the matter.

Sam George stated that he fulfills his roles as husband, boyfriend, and “sugar daddy” to his wife as part of his strategies to liven up his house.

“I tell my wife say she be my side chick and my wife. Wey me I be in sugar daddy, boyfriend, husband all put together. The thing wey boys go fit do, I dey do. Whatever, husbands do in the house, I do it. And whatever, sugar daddies do, I do them as well,” he said in Pijin mixed with English.

It is well known that Sam George frequently shows off his wife on social media, particularly when they are spotted together at public events.

Sometime in August 2022, the couple, who have been married for the previous 11 years, renewed their vows.

  • Exploring 5 common reasons why men might be hesitant to open up to their wives or girlfriends

Exploring 5 common reasons why men might be hesitant to open up to their wives or girlfriends

Sharing one’s feelings with a romantic partner is often considered a crucial aspect of emotional intimacy.

However, not all men find it easy to open up to their wives or girlfriends.

The reasons behind this hesitation can vary widely from person to person.

Here, we delve into five common factors that might contribute to men being reluctant to share their feelings in romantic relationships.

    1. Fear of being exposed:

A fear of their partners discussing vulnerabilities with others may lead some men to avoid opening up.

This reluctance could be rooted in a lack of trust in their partner or influenced by past experiences, prompting them to keep personal and sensitive matters to themselves.

    2. Fear of being seen as less masculine:

Men might be hesitant to share their struggles or emotions, fearing that it could result in being perceived as less masculine by their partners.

This apprehension may be rooted in societal stereotypes linking vulnerability to weakness, potentially impacting their self-esteem and how they are perceived by others.

    3. Concerns about judgment:

Men may worry about their partners’ reactions and fear being judged for their vulnerabilities.

The fear of not being understood or accepted can be a powerful deterrent, leading some men to keep their feelings and struggles to themselves.

    4. Past experiences of vulnerability being exploited:

Some men may have had negative experiences in the past where they opened up to someone and had their vulnerabilities used against them, either in the relationship or in social circles.

This can create a sense of mistrust and reluctance to be emotionally open in the future.

    5. Coping mechanisms:

Men might have developed coping mechanisms that involve internalizing their emotions or seeking support from friends or family outside the romantic relationship.

This behavior doesn’t necessarily indicate a lack of trust in their partners but may be a result of established patterns.

Encouraging open communication and fostering a supportive environment can help break down these barriers, allowing for healthier expressions of emotions in relationships.

  • Would you beat your wife when she cheats on you? – Kwesi Pratt Asks Nana Akomea

Would you beat your wife when she cheats on you? – Kwesi Pratt Asks Nana Akomea

Ghanaian journalist, Kwesi Pratt has directed a thought-provoking question to the Chief Executive Officer of the InterCity State Transport Corporation, Nana Akomea, sparking discussions regarding interpersonal relationships and attitudes towards infidelity.

During a media interaction, Mr. Pratt asserted that it is inappropriate for a man to resort to violence when he discovers that his wife is involved in infidelity.

He contended that just as a woman should not resort to violence if she discovers her partner’s infidelity, a man should also refrain from such behavior when faced with a similar situation.

Mr. Pratt pointed out that such behavior contributes to the negative perception of men as being harsh and cruel.

He emphasized, “Would you resort to violence if your wife cheats on you? You have no right to resort to violence if your wife is unfaithful. Some men have contributed to the negative stereotype of men as cruel by their actions. Since a wife cannot resort to violence if her husband is unfaithful, a man should similarly refrain from violence when his wife cheats.”

In response, Nana Akomea stated that no one is advocating for violence in the event of a spouse’s infidelity.

Instead, he suggested that if a person finds themselves in such a situation, the appropriate action is to separate from the unfaithful partner.

He expressed, “We are not suggesting that you should resort to violence if you discover that your wife is cheating. The proper course of action in such circumstances is to end the relationship.”

My wife and children do not know I am in prison – Inmate who was jailed because of a bag of charcoal

An inmate at the Afram planes in the Eastern Region, Kwesi Donkor, has disclosed that his wife and children are not aware of his imprisonment.

He explained that he had traveled from another village to visit his friend, Baba Iddrisu, who was involved in the charcoal trade.

During his visit, he found his friend accused of charcoal theft and joined him at the police station to offer support.

Unfortunately, both he and his friend were implicated and detained for 18 months despite their efforts to prove their innocence.

Remarkably, none of the people he resides with or his immediate family members are aware of his imprisonment.

“They are not aware at all that I am in prison. Even the people living in my neighbourhood currently are not aware of my whereabout. My wife and children living far away from me are also not aware that i am in prison,” Kwesi Donkor told host, Mr. Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, on Crime Check Tv’s “Time with the prisoner show.”

Crime Check Foundation was incorporated on 6th November, 2015 under the Companies Act 1963, Act 179 as a company limited by guarantee.

“Time with the prisoner show” over the years has not only served as a crime deterrent tool, but has been instrumental in highlighting major infractions of the law in Ghana’s Justice Delivery System, abuse of the rights of Prisoners, deplorable conditions in Ghana’s forty two prisons and the need for a review of Ghana’s Criminal Justice System.

Support your wives in household chores – Gender Department urges husbands

Mrs. Joycelyn Adii, the Bono Regional Director of the Department of Gender, has emphasized the importance of husbands supporting their wives in household chores to foster family unity and promote socio-economic progress.

Mrs. Adii highlighted that many women, particularly housewives, sometimes feel overwhelmed by household responsibilities, leading to a lack of interest in sex and denying their husbands. She urged men to understand and assist their wives with tasks such as washing, cooking, and cleaning to alleviate their burden.

Speaking at awareness programs organized by the Global Media Foundation (GLOMeF) in Yawmiri, Wawasua, Nsagobesa, and Antwikrom in the Sunyani Municipality, Mrs. Adii addressed the issue of unpaid care work.

These programs, supported by Plan Ghana as part of the ‘WISE Project,’ aimed to educate community members on the benefits of supporting women’s economic participation.

The WISE Project focuses on women’s economic empowerment, aiming to enhance their decision-making agency, productivity, profitability, and innovation in their businesses through innovative and gender-transformative business services.

Mrs. Adii also noted that many marriages face the risk of dissolution due to minor marital issues that can be easily resolved. She highlighted factors such as lack of communication and denial of sex as contributors to divorce and emphasized the need to address these challenges within relationships.

It is important to recognize and support gender equality in households, promoting shared responsibilities and open communication to build stronger marriages and foster overall well-being.

“If we want our marriages to stand the test of time then we must try and tackle the issue of unpaid care work which tended to over-burden many women”.

“In fact, a good husband must remain supportive to the wife. Women feel proud, dignified and are submissive when they see their husbands supporting the household’s chores” she stated.

Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, the Chief Executive Officer of the GLOMeF said children and men were the most affected in families that lacked peace and cohesion, saying “it is always uneasy for some men to return home after work due to family problems in the house”.

He advised men to spend ample time with their wives, communicate and listen to them, and added “women must also endeavour to remain submissive to their husbands too.”

Mr Ahenu said the project was being implemented at communities including Abesim, Adomako, Asufufu, Kwasi-nfum, Benue Nkwanta, Kyeredua, Watchman, Yawsae, all in the Sunyani Municipality.

The incident happened at Wiredukrom, a community near Wassa Manso in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.

The suspect, whose name has been given as Atta Sani, is said to have committed the crime shortly after a misunderstanding with his wife.

A family member who narrated the incident to Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show team indicated that the deceased, Maame Ama, 25, had left her matrimonial home after she made complaints that her husband has been abusing her.

Kwaku Adams adds that she had been living with another person in the same community for some days now after her husband subjected her to another abuse.

“My sister was tired of the marriage because there have been problems lately where the man fights her on every little issue. She has informed us of her intention to leave the marriage and we have been working towards it. She has since left her matrimonial home and was enjoying her peace of mind in the house of another woman in the same community. Her husband went for her in the guise of discussing an important issue with her and committed the crime,” he indicated.

He adds that his late sister innocently followed the suspect to his house in the company of their two-year-old child.

“She followed him with their two-year-old son to their room thinking they were going to discuss something important but he ended up butchering her to death. Neighbours say they heard the two quarreling in the room only for them to later realize that he has butchered her. He left the two-year-old child beside the lifeless body of the mother and bolted,” he added.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the morgue whilst the suspect is currently assisting the police in investigations.

The two have three children with the eldest being eight years whilst the youngest is two years.

Morocco: Ghana’s Jollof and Waakye receive much attention on AU Day

It was an intriguing sight to see as people lined up outside the King Mohammed V Theatre in Rabat, Morocco to taste Ghana’s regional foods and beverages that were being served as part of the celebration of “Africa Day“.

Ghana’s ‘Waakye’ and ‘Jollo’, served with indigenous pepper sauce and spicy beverages known as ‘Sobolo’ attracted many participants at the exhibition coordinated by Ghana’s Embassy in Morocco.

The swift manner in, which some patrons completed their first course and opted for another turn was indicative that their tongues had had a memorable encounter with a good meal.

“This is very good. I’ll taste it again. We also prepare jollof in our country but this is more spicy,” Philip, a participant from Cameroon, said.

Fasouma, a Nigerien student in Morocco, told the Ghana News Agency that: “I have heard about Ghana’s Jollof so I wanted to have a taste of it. This is really good and I wish your people can teach me how to prepare it.”

Nasiru, a Nigerian journalist, revived the Ghana-Nigeria jollof debate, but admitted in the end that “Ghana’s jollof is almost as good as that of Nigeria”.

Earlier, some Ghanaian students in Morocco performed Ghanaian cultural dances at a ceremony that preceded the food exhibition.

The Kingdom of Morocco on Thursday held a series of events to mark the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU) in 1963.

In an interview with the GNA, Mr Samuel Jojo Effah-Broni, Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, said the country’s rich local meals demonstrated its unique culture and identity.

He said many Moroccans and other foreign nationals were in love with Ghana’s local dishes and beverages.

“Everybody enjoys the taste of Ghanaian food. Ours is unique. Other countries prepare waakye and jollof, but they are not smooth like ours,” Mr Effah-Broni said.

He said the country must package and market its local dishes well to drive cultural export and to reap benefits for the country in the area of tourism.

  • Man unknowingly leaves wife for dead as he speeds off

Man unknowingly leaves wife for dead as he speeds off

A man unintentionally drove by an accident scene that involved his wife.

Bolaji Onifade had been heading to his work in Salford, Greater Manchester, when he noticed emergency services at the scene of a horrific smash.

A pedestrian had been mowed down by a wealthy businessman’s son driving a £200,000 Mercedes G-Wagon at speeds of up to 91mph on October 25, 2021.

The 43-year-old thought little more of it as he drove to work, but just 20 minutes later his whole world was flipped upside down as he learned his wife Ibizugbe Onifade had been the victim.

He had offered her to pick her up from work but she had refused as she was working overtime.

The 38-year-old receptionist had been crossing the road at the time and died from impact of the car, driven by Mohammed Chowdbury.

Chowdbury had been on his mobile phone moments before he ploughed into her, and prior to that had been racing down a busy dual carriageway at 80mph, overtaking and undertaking drivers recklessly.

The speed of his driving was so great that it caused a fellow road users’ car to “shake as he drove past”.

The young man had previous convictions for driving without insurance and having a non-compliant number plate, and in both instances he provided the police with his brother’s details.

Similarly, only three years after he passed his driving test, Chowdbury had to attend a speed awareness course.

In a statement Bolaji Onifade, known as BJ, said: “That day changed my life forever. When I heard the news, I felt like I had come to the end of the world. What will I do without my wife?

“She was a lively and friendly person. We met each other at Salford University and got married later on.

“We had been trying for a baby and were considering IVF before COVID set us back. She would have been a wonderful mother. People should not be able to drive such high-powered cars when they are so young. If he had been driving sensibly, I would still have my wife.”

He added: “We went shopping in the morning and took our little nephew out with us. Then I took her to work, but before leaving I told her, “you haven’t said goodbye to the little one’.

“I offered to pick her up from work later but she said she would take a bus home as she was doing overtime.

“I was on night shift so went to work later. When I was driving along Ashton New Road, I noticed flashing police lights from across the road and thought there must have been an incident.

“Something told me to call my wife, but she didn’t pick up. I got my cousin to try and call her, but she also didn’t pick up.

”When I eventually got to work 20 minutes later, I got a call from my wife’s employer to say that there had been an incident and that police were going to attend my address.

“I thought the police don’t attend your address when it isn’t serious. I left work and came home, where they told me the news.

“We had been together for 10 years. She had studied quantitative business at Salford University and got her masters at a university in Nigeria.

“We enjoyed each other’s company, dong normal things all couples like to do. Going to church and socialising with friends. She also loved watching films. She has four sisters, two brothers and a mother back in Nigeria. I just pray that they are ok.”

At Manchester Crown Court, Chowdhury, of Chadderton near Oldham, whose family run a successful textile company, was jailed for five years and six months imprisonment after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also banned from driving for eight years and nine months.

Prosecuting Brian Berlyne, said, “At approximately 8:55pm on Monday, October 25, 2021, Stuart Booth was driving in the Eastlands area of Manchester. Although it was dark, the street was well lit and a 30 mph speed limit was in place.

“The weather was fine, and the road was dry.

“As he drove along the road, a blue 4×4 Mercedes-Benz overtook him from the offside lane. The vehicle was going at such speed that his own vehicle shook as it was being overtaken. The defendant was the driver in question.

“At 9pm, PC Clark, an off duty police officer, noticed the same Mercedes speeding on the road near him. He noted that the car was travelling at excessive speed and over and undertook cars from the inside lanes of the dual carriageway.

“He also saw him doing a number of sharp breaks. He tried to follow the car, but the defendant sped through a red light. From there, PC Clark lost sight of him.

“At around the same time, the victim had just finished her work as a receptionist and made her way towards Alan Turing Way to catch a bus home.

“She crossed the road near the interchange with Ashton Old road and managed to reach the central reservation. She then looked around and believing the second half of the road was clear, she stepped out. She was then almost immediately struck by the defendant’s vehicle.

“Chowdhury immediately stopped and phoned the ambulance, which arrived a short time after. The victim died later in the night from the multiple injuries sustained from the collision.

“Although it was never fully confirmed the speed at which he was driving at the time, a police reconstruction of the incident measured his speed before the collision to be between 79 and 91 mph.

“He did immediately slow down when he saw the victim and was estimated to have been at between 40-50mph at that point.

“The victim was wearing dark clothing, but would have been seen regardless due to the bright road lighting. After being arrested at the scene, the defendant’s phone was seized.

“Analysis found that he had received no less than six calls between 8:51 and 8:57. The last call was taken at 8:57 and lasted for two minutes. At 9am he also used his phone to call the police.

“In interview, he denied driving dangerously and gave no account of his actions.”

In mitigation, Mohammed Nawaz, said, “He acquired an interest in cars at a young age, and by 14 he was spending more time fixing up cars than he was spending at school.

  • I have a side chick because my wife doesn’t treat me well

I have a side chick because my wife doesn’t treat me well

A Ghanaian man who has been eight years married has revealed his motivations for engaging in extramarital relationship.

For nearly a decade, Tee feels he’s alone in his marriage. The husband and father of four says his wife does not take up her role as the woman of the household.

In a no-hold back on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Tee claimed he is a responsible man who provides everything needed for his household, his wife, however, does not hold up her end of the bargain.

He says the situation has sucked out all the romance in the marriage and feels unloved.

“I’m a very responsible man, I have a wife and I sometimes ask her to do something for me, my intention is not to stress her, but she’ll tell ‘I don’t have time.’ This has been happening for a long time,” he told co-host Kojo Yankson.

“As a responsible man you go around and do everything for the family and the woman you decide to be with treats you as if you are a child staying with her,” he narrated.

Tee believes the situation is what propelled him to seek comfort outside his matrimonial home.

Narrating how he met the other woman, popularly called side chick, Tee said he was always buying food outside and this lady expressed concern.

Although he didn’t divulge the actual reason, Tee said the lady, who at the time was just a friend, has since taken on the role to ensure he is well-fed and taken care of.

“I’m not saying that it is a behaviour that everyone should do but sometimes the behaviour of some wives to push men into this behaviour. Men are like kids, if you don’t give your child food to eat, he will go somewhere to eat,” he said.

He further added that although it is not his wish to cheat on his better half, his wife’s behaviour has gradually pushed him away.

  • The ‘hated’ Asante traitor Kwame Tua who kidnapped an Asantehene’s wife

The ‘hated’ Asante traitor Kwame Tua who kidnapped an Asantehene’s wife

Kwame Tua was despised in the Ashanti community, despite the fact that the story is obscured by numerous narrations from various narrators.

Kwame Tua was a favorite of the British because he always provided them with information on his people, regardless of his specific position in the kingdom at the time of the colonial masters.

Referred to as a traitor of the Ashantis, it is even believed that, to date, the mentioning of that name is prohibited, especially within the confines of the kingdom of the Asantehene.

In one of the many accounts about the man Kwame Tua, it is said that he revealed secrets about his people to the British and was very instrumental in the arrest and capture of the warrior queen mother of Ashanti, Yaa Asatewaa.

This, it is believed, he was able to achieve with the support of a certain Kwasi Apea Nuamah, believed to be his elder brother.

A 78-year-old man, for instance, who called into a radio discussion on Kwame Tua, on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, gave his own accounts of what he knew about the man.

He described how powerful Kwame Tua became, so much so that while he did not have any particular work that he did, he became so feared that he even took away one of the wives of an Asantehene.

“Kwame Tua had no specific work he was doing but he had the favour of the Whites because he was their informant, telling them about everything that was happening within the Ashanti circles.

“Due to this, he and one Nuamah became so powerful that nobody could speak about them. There was even a time that Kwame Tua succeeded in collecting one of the wives of the Asantehene because he had the backing of the Whites,” he narrated.

The elderly man, whose name was not mentioned on the program, also corroborated the claims that Kwame Tua was instrumental in the arrest and capture of Yaa Asatewaa.

He added that this was done with support from his brother, Nuamah, after which the two were rewarded by the British colonialists upon the exile of Prempeh I.

“In fact, it was through Nuamah and Kwame Tua that information got to the Whites about the whereabouts of Yaa Asantewa, and she was captured,” he narrated.

“How all of these benefitted him was that when Asantehene Prempeh I was captured and sent away, all of the Ashanti stools were left unattended to. Nuamah told the Whites that he wanted the position of the Linguist to the Otumfuo. Kwame Tua, on the other hand, asked for one of the seats of the royals. By the way, Nuamah and Kwame Tua were siblings,” he added.

GhanaWeb cannot, however, confirm the truths of the above accounts on Kwame Tua, although there are several academic and personal accounts on the name, and his brother, Nuamah, on the internet.

‘I’ll fight her with juju’ – South Africa-based Nigerian pastor cautions wife

Wife persuades husband to fix things around their home with power tool

If you have communication issues with your husband, apparently, there’s an unconventional solution out there.

TikToker Tena Hull posted a quick clip on how she got her husband to finally work on home renovations. After waiting over a year to get started on projects, she was done asking the regular way.

“Summoning my husband to fix things for me,” the video text stated.

All Hull did was whip out her handy power drill and pull the trigger. The simple sound was enough to signal her husband from across the house.

“What’s going on up there?” he shouted from another room. “Why do you have a drill?”

The fish took the bait, and the funny clip received 5.4 million views on TikTok.

“Tried it on my husband. The bat signal does indeed work,” a TikToker replied.

“I walk by with tools. He asks if I want a level. I say ‘nah, imma eyeball it’. Immediately up,” a user said.

“My husband forgets when we first lived together almost all of the tools we owned were mine. Somehow now he thinks he needs to save me from using them,” someone wrote.

“Isn’t it AMAZING what they can actually hear?” a person added.

“My husband literally turned around and asked what the sound was,” another commented.

  • Are you having an affair?

    Are you having an affair?

Yesterday, in a movie, the word affair was thrown about between a husband, wife and mistress, so I asked myself “what does that word really mean at all?” I got digging and…

…an affair is “a sexual relationship, romantic friendship, or passionate attachment between two people without the attached person’s significant other knowing” (Wikipedia).

There were other definitions but the Wikipedia definition really got me. Forget sexual relationship (hook ups) and romantic friendship (friends with benefits); that is the common definition for the average Joe; PASSIONATE ATTACHMENT? Wow, do you realise how many people are having affairs without knowing?

Boy meets girl, girl meets boy, boy meets boy, girl meets girl and a relationship is ignited. Some call it friendship; others call it acquaintance, for others it’s admiration from afar. Then as time passes by, there is attachment based on the intrigue and or other superficial features of one party or both.

No fault if you don’t have a significant other but if you do, be it married significant other, boy/girlfriend significant other or best friend significant other, just be considerate and “respectful” and stop having an AFFAIR behind their backs, unless they know.

    It is an affair if…

    1. You CANNOT answer their calls when your significant other is around.
    2. You MUST speak or chat them consistently just as you do your significant other or even less
    3. You smile sheepishly at the thought of them
    4. You answer their calls in the presence of your significant other and act as though s/he (significant other) is not there
    5. Their well-being is more of your concerned than that of your significant other
    6. If your family knows his/her or name by heart than that of your significant other
    7. You spend on them more than you do on your significant other with every resource available to you.

Truthfully I am guilty in some respect and I have repented before bringing this piece to an end because I do have a significant other and I really did not consider some things an affair until I found out what it meant.

Note that if you do not have a significant other and yet you are passionately attached to a particular person, that person can be considered a significant other, so just be sure you are not having an affair.

Passionate attachment has nothing to do with sex but consistently it could lead to it and then there is trouble.

Be sure you are not having an affair!

  • After bike accident, man in US wakes up thinking it’s 1993, asks wife to marry again

A man who barely survived a motorbike accident in the United States last year woke up thinking it was 1993 and asked his wife to marry him again.

Kristy and Andrew Mackenzie from Virginia nearly died in a motorcycle accident in June 2021 after a car skipped a red light and smashed into the pair. As per ABC 7, the couple was launched more than 50 feet across the street leaving the husband unconscious and in need of life-saving surgery. Following the accident, the pair was immediately airlifted to a nearby hospital as they suffered internal bleeding, punctured lungs and broken bones.

But when Andrew woke up three days later in the hospital, he thought he was back in 1993. 29 years of his life had disappeared into thin air. Speaking to the outlet, Kristy said that he didn’t even recognise his own daughters, Lorelai Mentzer and Amanda Mackenzie.

“He just immediately, it was, ‘Where’s my wife? Where’s my wife?’ And I think he thought I was working at the hospital,” Lorelai said.

Andrew, on the other hand, told the outlet, “One of the first things I remember is Kristy in a wheelchair bedside trying to worry about me taking care of myself.”

The family was given the devastating news from the doctors who were unable to confirm if Andrew’s memory would ever return. However, upon hearing the news, his wife convinced the hospital staff to put her husband in her room as she believed this would help aid his memory.

“He started coming around asking me things and I was, like, amazed,” Kristy said, adding, “There were happy tears, and within 24 hours, he was a new person”.

After spending 11 days in the hospital and extensive rehab, the couple was then able to walk. As per ABC 7, they even took a family beach vacation in August. During this trip, Andrew popped the question for a second time and the couple renewed their vows days later.

“Luckily, she said yes. We’d already been married 37 years or whatever, and so it worked out,” Andrew said.

Post a comment The 58-year-old, who doesn’t remember any of the accident, also added that his wife is the one person who got him through.

  • Nigerian arrested for assaulting wife to death

The suspect was arrested on Sunday, November 20, 2022, according to Ogun State Police Command in a statement issued on Monday, and signed by its spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

A 45-year-old man, Segun Omotosho Ebenezer, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly beating his wife, Bukola, 42 to death in Ogun State.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday, November 20, 2022, according to Ogun State Police Command in a statement issued on Monday, and signed by its spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

His arrest, according to the statement followed a complaint lodged at Kemta Divisional Headquarters on November 14, 2022, by the elder sister of the deceased, who reported that the deceased was beaten and seriously injured by her husband over a minor disagreement.

Oyeyemi stated that the deceased was subsequently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba Abeokuta, by the suspect for medical attention, but that she died while receiving treatment.

“Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members informing them that her husband has used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her, and that if she died, they should be aware that it was her husband that killed her.

“As soon as the voice note was played to his hearing, the husband took to his heels having realised that his evil deed had been exposed,” Oyeyemi said.

The police spokesman noted that following the report and the recording evidence, the Divisional Police Officer of Kemta Division, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, detailed his detectives to go after the husband and fish him out.

“He was subsequently traced to Akinseku village, Abeokuta where he has been hibernating, and was promptly apprehended.”

The statement further said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that their incessant quarrel was because the deceased built a private school in the name of herself and the husband, but the husband who is a carpenter had wanted to take control of the school which the deceased wife who was an NCE graduate refused.

“This is the reason why the suspect has been beating the deceased, until that fateful day when he used an iron padlock to hit her on the head, which eventually led to her untimely death.”

Oyeyemi, however, noted that the police commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect should be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

  • Marrying an older man meant I became a widow at 34

I admired my future husband from afar for a couple of years before we finally met at a horse show where we were both competitors. He had a great sense of humour, was a terrific horseman, and looked like Frank Sinatra. I was hooked.

He was recently divorced and looking. Of course, I had been looking at him for a long time already. I was 20 and he was 45. I saw nothing but his smile. Neither the age difference nor the fact that he was two inches shorter than I am made any difference.

There was something about him that caught and held my attention. Perhaps it was the way he treated his horses…he talked baby talk to them and I loved it.

Our first date followed that show.

We put our horses away in their respective barns then he picked me up for dinner in his Rolls Royce. He was wealthy, but it made no difference to me. He could have been a starving, out-of-work cowboy; I didn’t care. It was love at first sight.

Within a year, I was marrying an older man.

We were married and continued our winning ways together.

One of our horse trainer friends invited us to dinner one evening. The wife was older than I was but she, too, was many years younger than her husband. After eating, the men talked about horses and training while we girls sat in the kitchen over a cup of tea and talked about being married to men twice our age.

She mentioned that although she loved her husband dearly, he was slowing down and she was still rearing to go. She warned me about what was to come. Aches, pains, and illnesses…she didn’t paint a pretty picture.

Some years later my husband had a stroke. He was 58. Within the year, I found myself alone, running a ranch without my best friend and confidant. I was only 34.

Things that had been so routine suddenly seemed strange and out of place. I began to doubt my abilities in the show ring. I was no different, but my life certainly was. The vultures came out of nowhere, and I had no one to watch my back.

I had to keep telling myself that although my partner was gone, I was still the same person, I held the same knowledge, and my talents were still as great as ever. Yet a part of me was missing. It was hard to function as a whole person.

I had known for a year that his life was ebbing and he would be leaving me. I often thought of what would be worse: a knock at the door informing me that my husband had been killed in a car wreck or watching him slowly slip away, hour by hour, day after day.

I was with him when he took his last breath. I felt as though it was mine. One second he was there and the next he was gone. We had said all there was to say between two people in love. Sharing the good times and the sad times, we relived our entire married life within a few days. Then he was gone.

I missed hearing him in the barn, talking to the horses. I expected him to walk around the corner any second to ask me a question or ask for my help. Instead, there was only silence. Day after lonely day … silence.

I no longer had the desire to go to the shows, let alone win. I questioned what would happen to me. I wanted to shrivel up and die with him. My life as I had known it was over.

My saving grace was running into the woman that had long ago warned me about what I was in for by marrying a much older man. She too had lost her husband.

She had continued running their ranch after her husband’s death. I figured that if she could make it, so could I. I asked her to tell me the steps to dealing with the pain and the emptiness. She shared her grieving process with me, advising me to continue my life as it had been before he died. It helped, but still, the pain and numbness remained.

Slowly, I dug into my horse business again, realizing that my late husband wouldn’t be happy if I quit and walked away from what we had built. I started showing again…and winning. With each blue ribbon, I’d raise it in the ring as though showing it to my love. I could feel his approval and could picture that ice-melting smile.

Over time I realized that he wasn’t “gone,” he was just in a different form. I can still feel his presence at times. Love never dies — not even death can end it.

Before he died, he told me to remarry and live happily; I was too young to be single and alone. It took a couple of years to get to know myself again before finding my current husband. He, too, is perfect for me. We’re a match made in Heaven if you know what I mean.
