The one-eighth stage of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has come to an end, with a total of 27 schools securing their spots in the highly anticipated quarter-finals.

Notably, this achievement ensures these schools an automatic qualification for the 2024 edition of the competition.

Eight schools have managed to outperform previously seeded schools, thus earning their status as fresh entrants.

Among these newcomers is Wesley Girls’ SHS, who, after an eight-year absence, began their journey at the regional stage and progressed to the preliminaries. Mpraeso SHS also made their mark by defeating Ghana National in a revenge match.

Achimota School, following their defeat by St. Augustine’s in the previous year, made a remarkable comeback. Additional schools that secured their spots as newcomers in the quarter-finals include Wesley Grammar School, St. Louis Girls’, who surprised many by eliminating last year’s finalist, Adisadel College. St. John’s School, Yilo Krobo SHS, and G.S.T.S. also added further excitement to the competition.

On the other hand, the reigning champions, Presec Legon, and the 2022 first runners-up, Prempeh College, successfully maintained their positions as seeded schools.

The 2021 finalists, Keta SHTS, demonstrated their strength as formidable opponents by achieving an impressive 70 points in their one-eighth contest, marking the highest score in the competition thus far.

The quarterfinal matches are scheduled to take place from Sunday, October 15 to October 17. These upcoming matches promise intense competition, with only nine schools advancing to the semi-finals, which are set for October 19.

Below is the list of the seeded schools:
