  • Bullet saved me from occultism – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Wendy Shay has candidly shared insights into her music career journey and a potentially life-altering encounter with occultism. She revealed that her path might have led her into the world of occultism if not for her fortuitous meeting with her current manager, Bullet.

During an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz-FM on September 28, the “Heaven” hit-maker shared her experiences. She revealed that, upon returning from Germany, she had begun searching for a higher power.

“Around 2020/2021, I wanted to find spirituality for myself,” Wendy Shay explained.

When questioned about whether she delved into occultism as part of her spiritual exploration, she clarified that she “didn’t really go too deep” into it.

Instead, she had been in contact with her grandfather, who had expertise in such practices before meeting her current manager, Bullet.

“I wanted to start practicing those things, but then I met Bullet right when I really wanted to get deep into those things,” Wendy Shay added.

Before signing Wendy Shay to Rufftown Records as an artist, Bullet allegedly suggested that she go to church with him. He explained that she needed to align herself with his power, which he identified as the light of Jesus Christ, in order for her star to shine.

“He told me he follows the light, and the light is Jesus Christ, and for me to be in alignment with him, I had to go to church with him.”

Wendy Shay admitted that initially, she attended church with Bullet for the sake of being signed as an artist. However, she had a encounter during one of these church visits when “the Holy Ghost just arrested me.”

She continued by saying that the difficulties she encountered in her personal life and in the music business led her to settle on Christianity in her search for spirituality.

“Because of the things I had faced in my life and in the industry. It opened my eyes to the spirituality of this world, we all know how crazy the industry is, there are so many dark forces here. So I knew I had to find protection, and that was God,” she said.

  • My accident was not a natural occurrence but rather a spiritual attack -Wendy Shay

Renowned Ghanaian songstress, Wendy Shay, has opened up about a harrowing near-fatal accident she recently survived, expressing her suspicions regarding its cause.

Describing the accident during an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Wendy Shay explained, “I was heading home; I had finished creating some content for my new song, ‘Every Man Cheats.’ I had gotten to my junction, and all of a sudden, I felt a big push from behind. I remember all I was screaming was Jesus, and then I entered into a gutter. I didn’t even realize when my head hit the dashboard, and I realized I was blacking out, so they had to rush me to the hospital.”

Wendy Shay revealed that she suffered injuries in the accident, notably a nasal bone fracture and facial inflammation. Fortunately, she underwent medical evaluations, and her condition was improving. Additionally, she confirmed that her Personal Assistant, who was also in the car at the time of the accident, emerged unharmed.

Reflecting on the incident, she expressed, “It was a very big shock, no one saw this coming. For me to be here, it’s by God’s grace.”

Wendy Shay, in an unexpected statement, asserted that the incident was not a natural occurrence but rather a spiritual assault. She insisted that she knew who might have been behind the attack and that they were trying to pin the incident on her manager Bullet.

“Those who wanted to kill me, they know themselves, and they’re trying to put it on Bullet. It wasn’t Bullet. It wasn’t a normal attack. What I can say is that they know themselves, but I am not going to mention their names. But they can never kill me,” she stated.

To prove her claim, Wendy Shay questioned the circumstances of the accident, saying, “People were saying, ‘Oh, it’s the wrangler,’ but how can a big tipper truck loaded with rocks hit me, and the tipper truck somersaulted, and my car was rather intact?”

On September 10, 2023, Wendy Shay was involved in a car accident on the Kwabenya Highway in Accra, where her Jeep Wrangler collided with a tipper truck around midnight. The accident not only caused significant damage to her vehicle but also left her with injuries that required her to be hospitalized for approximately five days.

This incident triggered discussions and speculations, especially regarding the unfortunate events that seem to befall artists under Bullet’s Rufftown Music Label. Some people once again pointed fingers at Bullet, the label’s manager, in light of previous tragedies, including the untimely death of Ebony in a similar accident.

However, Wendy Shay has now addressed her ordeal. On September 20th, she took to her Instagram page to share a snippet of a song she had recorded prior to the accident. Although the song’s title wasn’t provided, the lyrics indicated her resilience and determination to overcome challenges.

“If I’m your friend. And you’re my friend Where were you?

When I was in need. When I was down. When I was broken

You never call me. No butter for my bread. If you no dey love me now. Don’t love me when I’m gone.”

The caption to the post read, “I recorded this song on 7.09.2023, had an accident on 10.09.2023. The lyrics in this song is making sense to me now…Some people will only love you when you are dead…I am Alive by the Grace of God. Thanks to GOD, my family, team, and my Fans for their support and prayers. Ghana, please say a big Thank you to these celebs who showed me love when I needed it most”

Wendy mentioned a few of her coworkers who, according to her, had helped and supported her during her recovery.

During an interview with HitzFM’s Andy Dosty, Bullet announced that Wendy Shay will soon be transported to Germany for additional medical care.

“It was very severe. It was extremely severe. She has spent five days in the hospital. Right now, what we are planning to do is to fly her to Germany for further medical checks.

“We are going to see the police this morning. We have been there, and they said they have to test the car and everything. We hope they get done soon,” he stated.

When asked about the severity of the accident, Bullet explained that the tipper truck that collided with Wendy Shay’s vehicle was transporting stones and was traveling at a high speed.

He further stated that the truck struck Wendy Shay’s car from behind, resulting in her head hitting the dashboard.

Bullet pointed out that Wendy Shay, accompanied by her personal assistant, was on her way home after a video shoot for her new song when the accident took place.

“Imagine your car being hit by a tipper truck with gravels and stones. It was extremely severe. When you see how heavy the tipper truck was and how it hit her from behind, it was serious. She was getting off the highway trying to branch. There’s no way a tipper truck can hit a Jeep Wrangler from behind and the person will survive it,”

In response to a question about where he was when the incident occurred, Bullet said, “I was in Kumasi trying to promote Wendy’s new songs and I heard that this happened so I had to rush back.”

Obimpeh said he saw Wendy Shay come out of her car and thus approached her to find out what happened. She, however, told him that she could not talk much and that her head was aching after hitting the dashboard. She also seemed disoriented and confused.

When I got there, I saw a lady come out of a car with dreadlocks that looked like Wendy Shay’s.

So, I decided to have a closer look, and I saw that it was Wendy Shay’s Wrangler with the customized number plate. I got closer and asked her what was happening. She said she couldn’t talk much and that her head was aching, and her head hit the dashboard. I asked what, and she said the truck. The people around said a tipper truck loaded with sand was coming from ACP estate to Kwabenya, and Wendy Shay was coming from Kwabenya to ACP estate. There was another lady in the front seat and another car parked on the side. I can’t tell if that lady was with her. I think it is very serious. She was a little disoriented and seemed confused.

The tipper is lying on its side, and Wendy Shay’s car is partially on the road and partially in the gutter. People kept shouting, saying the tipper truck driver was stuck in his car, but I did not see him in there.”

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Asiamah Addo, known as Wendy Shay, has shared how public criticism played a significant role in bringing her closer to God. She revealed that the intense scrutiny and negative feedback she faced when she began her music career made her seek solace in her faith, as she found it challenging to trust anyone else.

Wendy Shay emphasized the difficulties she encountered while striving for success in a male-dominated industry, where many female artists struggle to thrive.

During a Twitter Joy Showbiz podcast hosted by Kwame Dadzie on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Wendy Shay highlighted how the criticisms from certain sections of the public had a profound impact on her life, leading her to develop certain qualities and turning to her faith for support.

“It [public criticism] keeps me on my toes and always brings the best out of myself. A male-dominated industry made me very hard and develop some qualities that I never knew. So I am not stopping, I’m going further and further.”

“Actually, I will say thank you to everyone who bombarded and bashed me. Because it made me realize who was really for me and who was not. it also made me choose my circle wisely. It [public criticism] actually pushed me closer to God because I realized that I couldn’t depend on any man apart from him,” she said during the conversation monitored by GhanaWeb.

Wendy Shay likened the criticisms by some Ghanaians to a maid being maltreated by her madam.

“I [Wendy Shay] feel like most Ghanaians treated me like a house help who was always kind of maltreated by cleaning the house and always doing the cooking. Meanwhile, there was another person in the house who was always being pampered, but I was the one who was being maltreated,” Wendy Shay lamented.

“You [the would-be-husband] should be in alignment with my destiny. If it’s just you loving and taking care of me, I don’t think that is enough for me to give you attention,” Wendy Shay added.

Cease labeling us solely as female musicians; recognize equality – Wendy Shay

The celebrated singer-songwriter known by her stage name Wendy Shay has passionately expressed her dismay at the unjust treatment and objectification of women within the music industry.

In an interview with the media, the songstress voiced her strong discontent with the prevailing practice of categorizing female musicians as ‘female artistes,’ while their male counterparts are simply referred to as ‘artistes.’

With unwavering fervor, Wendy Shay fervently championed the cause for parity and recognition.

She resolutely proclaimed that women in the music industry invest an equivalent, if not greater, amount of effort compared to their male counterparts, and thus, they merit acknowledgment as ‘artistes’ without any gender-based distinctions.

Her resolute stance illuminates the urgent matter of gender inequality in the realm of music and underscores the necessity for an impartial and all-encompassing industry.

Wendy Shay’s advocacy stands as a wellspring of inspiration for all women aspiring to shatter barriers and confront societal conventions, thereby cultivating an atmosphere where skill and diligence receive acknowledgement devoid of prejudice or bias.

“It’s inequitable. To start with, I’m not even fond of the notion that people use ‘female artistes’ because you don’t witness our male peers being tagged as ‘male artistes.’ They’re recognized as artistes, and likewise, we should be acknowledged. We are artistes,” she articulated.

She spotlighted the tenacity and devotion of female musicians such as herself and Sister Efya, underscoring the substantial exertion and dedication they pour in, which undeniably warrant recognition and acclaim.

Reacting to this Wendy Shay said that “it’s not fair to even compare. You know, I have been doing and giving hits back-to-back for five years so there shouldn’t be any comparison. I am an international artiste as well and I am working towards it to become a global artiste.”

  • Celebrities should go on strike over alcohol and betting advertisement ban – Wendy Shay

Ghanaian musician, Wendy Shay has challenged the Food and Drug Authority and Gaming Commission’s decision to ban celebrities from advertising for alcoholic and betting companies in Ghana.

Wendy has urged her colleagues to come together and organize a massive protest that will register their displeasure and also cause the authorities to rescind their ‘unwanted’ directive which is an advantage to them.

The ‘Heaven’ singer made this submission on United Showbiz on Saturday, November 19, and called on local musicians to put a halt on releasing songs.

She believes that when musicians go on a strike, it will prove that they are indeed not in favour of the ban that has caused them to lose thousands of dollars in terminated endorsement deals following the directive.

“It is common to see institutions and industries hit the streets, nurses can go on strike but in the music industry, my colleagues are slow to act. If indeed we want this to be effective, we just have to act, it is no big deal.

“We can come together and organize a campaign to tell them to lift that ban and until the ban is lifted, we are not going to do any music. That could have been the solution but I know many of us will not come together for this. I have been one of the artistes who have been pushing the agenda for the ban to be lifted,” she disclosed in the interview monitored by GhanaWeb.

Meanwhile, artiste manager Mark Darlington Osae has sued the FDA and Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame over the ban on celebrities from advertising for alcoholic beverages in Ghana.

  • My ‘Heat song’ is not a shade to Nana Aba and Serwaa Amihere – Wendy Shay finally clarifies

There was a widespread notion that Wendy Shay’s viral hit song, “Heat,” is a direct shade at renowned media personality, Nana Aba Anamoah and her goddaughter, Serwaa Amihere.

Many people made this assertion because the release of the song was coincidentally around the time Abena Korkor took to social media to make some wild against Nana Aba, Serwaa Amihere, and the NPP’s former General Secretary, John Boadu.

One personality who has openly indicated that he was not happy with the manner Wendy Shay somehow bullied the Gh One TV presenters is Kwame A Plus.

On UTV’s United Show which aired on Saturday, November 19, 2022, the leader of the TPP Movement told Wendy Shay in the face that song was below the belt, especially, when a lot of people fought for her at the time she was being abused when she started her music career in Ghana.

In a response to this suggestion, Wendy Shay for the first time denied that the song was in any way directed at Nana Aba Anamoah and Serwaa.

According to her, she only recorded the song to highlight the plight of the everyday Ghanaian and also to assure people that things will be better.

The ‘Survivor’ hitmaker also indicated that the lyrics in the song which appear to be a reference to the two media personalities really have nothing to do with them.

  • There’s no love, decorum; reason unfounded rumour is broadcast – Bullet fires radio presenters

Ghanaian music executive and musician Ricky ‘Bullet’ Nana Agyemang has accused radio presenters of having no love or respect for their fellow industry players.

He holds this is why any allegation with or without evidence is broadcast and discussed without any sensitivity to the person involved.

He had been invited at the end of an interview at Class Media Group to offer advice to media persons.

At this, Bullet bemoaned: “It’s like there’s no love” before saying: “I’ll use you [Nana Romeo] as an example.”

“The reason you struggled to get me to come for this interview is not because I didn’t want to come, but I was contemplating about [what possibly could happen during the interview because] I saw the question you asked Wendy when she was here,” the Rufftown Records founder revealed.

He argued that he’s “an industry person. I’ve been here over two decades,” and so Nana Romeo, being a fellow in the industry, should have been charitable not to bring up the rumoured affair between him and his Afropop artiste Wendy Shay.

“Not even if you have evidence,” he stressed and flashed his phone to make his point.

Bullet decried the uncontrolled thirst for “content” in the pursuit of social media popularity and for attracting “numbers.”

“It’s like they [media people] don’t care,” he lamented.

In response, the Ayekoo Ayekoo host, Nana Romeo noted that: “For the first time, after what you’ve said, being wise, I’ve accepted I did the wrong thing. I won’t beat about the bush.”

Nana Romeo said sorry profusely but added: “I’ve come to understand, it should not have been on the radio but maybe in a private conversation” maybe with Wendy.

For his part, Bullet accepted the apology with: “That’s it. We move” but also insisted: “You [don’t] do that, especially when there’s no evidence to that effect. Don’t do it,” Bullet charged again.

Mr Ricky ‘Bullet’ Nana Agyemang also stressed the symbiosis between media persons and other creative industry players like musicians.

“It’s about the industry [and not me per se]. I need you, bro, you need me,” he stated.

On the Accra 100.5 FM mid-morning show Ayekoo Ayekoo in 2020, Nana Romeo had alleged Wendy Shay was having an affair with her record label boss Bullet. She walked out in protest.

  • Nana Romeo apologises to Bullet

Radio host at Accra 100.5 FM Nana Romeo has rendered an apology to Ricky ‘Bullet’ Nana Agyemang for broaching a conversation about his alleged affair with his Rufftown Records signee Wendy Shay during an interview on the said station.

After their exclusive interview on Thursday, October 20, 2022, Nana Romeo urged Bullet to give advice to journalists.

Bullet charged that media personalities show no love or sense of decorum when talking about people’s issues including their fellow media and creative industry players.

Everything is for “content” and for social media popularity and attracting numbers and often without evidence, Bullet bemoaned citing his alleged romantic involvement with his signee.

In response, Nana Romeo said: “I’ve learnt some sense from what you’ve said,” and explained he truly strayed from the core reason Wendy Shay had come to the Accra 100.5 FM studios for the controversial 2020 interview.

Bullet interjected saying, “You did not have any evidence [about my supposed affair with Wendy Shay]” but Nana Romeo in reaction maintained: “That may only be what you think, but let’s leave that bit aside.”

“You see, you still don’t want to admit, there is no evidence for the alleged affair,” Bullet chuckled.

Romeo pressed on: “[The thing is] Even if I had evidence, why should it be on radio?”

“I admit I did what was not right,” he touched his chest to signal earnestness. “I apologise for that.”

Bullet accepted the apology with the words: “That’s it. We move.”

“It’s about the industry [and not me per se]. I need you, bro, you need me,” Bullet added after recounting how people around him protested his coming for the Thursday, October 20, 2022 interview.

“We move together, and we win together,” he stressed while Nana Romeo came in with: “I’ve come to understand, it should not have been on the radio but maybe in a private conversation, I could have engaged Wendy Shay on the issue. Not on-air with thousands listening.”

“Yes, you don’t do that, especially when there’s no evidence to that effect. Don’t do it,” Bullet charged again.

Afropop star Wendy Shay walked out of the Accra FM studios when Nana Romeo intimated she had an unprofessional relationship with her boss. The 2020 interview caused a huge stir on social media that year and resurfaced in September 2022.
