“I dedicate it to my parents above all, to my entire family. They deserve everything and more,” Nico Williams said after coming on as a substitute in the game against Switzerland over the weekend.

Nico Williams, 20, further disclosed that he gets his strength to continue going from his parents.

  • Enrique frustrated by ‘worst’ half of Spain reign in Switzerland defeat

Luis Enrique believes Spain’s performance in the first half of Saturday’s defeat to Switzerland was their worst 45 minutes of his reign.

Spain slumped to a disappointing 2-1 loss in Zaragoza that leaves them trailing Portugal by two points in Nations League Group A2 heading into the last game.

That final group match is on Tuesday as Spain prepare to face the leaders in Braga, with Fernando Santos’ side 4-0 winners over the Czech Republic on Saturday.

La Roja did not muster a single shot on target until Jordi Alba’s 55th-minute equaliser at La Romareda, and Luis Enrique could not hide his disappointment at the showing.

“Losing is always something that hurts. It has been a pity, but we must value Switzerland, who from the beginning caused us many difficulties,” the coach said.

“In the first half, it was the worst of my time as coach. [Then] we have badly defended the corner of their second goal.

“In the second half we improved. We have tried until the end. The key game is Portugal. We will go to Braga to win.”

The manner of Saturday’s loss clearly perturbed Luis Enrique, understandable given the World Cup starts in less than two months.

Yet, he is refusing to blow it out of proportion, adamant he does not need to re-evaluate his faith in the squad just because of one result.

Asked if the game generated doubts in relation to Qatar 2022, Luis Enrique replied: “No doubts.

“Obviously it’s better to go to Qatar on a winning streak, but I have full confidence in the team. I have seen many players in the first half who have been more imprecise than ever, but the opponents are good, they know how they play.

“But everything doesn’t always go well, when you don’t have a good day, this happens.

“A victory against Portugal would be the perfect way to reach the World Cup. We have drawn three times with them and now we will go there to win.”

Portugal only need a draw on Tuesday to seal their place in the Nations League Finals for the second time.

  • Switzerland score in first minute to beat Portugal

Haris Seferovic scored the fastest goal in the Nations League’s short history to give Switzerland victory over Portugal in Group A2.

The Benfica forward headed in after just 55 seconds in Geneva to get the hosts off the mark in this campaign.

He saved from Danilo Pereira, made a smart stop to deny Goncalo Guedes and thwarted Bernardo Silva’s from range.

Joao Cancelo curled over and Diogo Jota’s header was also saved by Omlin as Portugal – without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was rested – tried and failed to pull level.

They slip to second in the standings after Spain’s victory over the Czech Republic.

  • Ronaldo double as Portugal trash Switzerland

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal thrashed Switzerland to move top of their Nations League group.

William Carvalho opened the scoring when he pounced after Ronaldo’s free-kick was only parried by Gregor Kobel.

Ronaldo smashed in from 12 yards after being teed up by Diogo Jota, who then played a part in the third as his shot was saved and Ronaldo reacted quickest.

Joao Cancelo completed the rout when he scored from 20 yards after Kobel raced out and failed to clear a through ball.

A late equaliser for Spain, who snatched a 2-2 draw in the Czech Republic, means Portugal go to the top of Group A2, above the Czechs on goal difference.

Those two sides meet in Portugal on Thursday, with the hosts having drawn 1-1 with Spain in their opening fixture.

Portugal were the winners of the inaugural Nations League in 2019 and will be hopeful of repeating that feat after making such a strong start to this season’s competition.

Messi scores five to overtake Puskas tally

While this was a memorable night for Ronaldo, it was also an eventful evening for his fierce rival Lionel Messi, who scored five times for Argentina in a 5-0 friendly win over Estonia.

That takes Messi’s tally to 86 international goals – 31 behind Ronaldo’s record of 117.

  • Paris Agreement: Ghana and Switzerland sign climate protection deal

Ghana has struck a carbon offsetting agreement with Ghana and Switzerland in what the two nations say is the second deal of its kind under the Paris agreement.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, and the
Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Philip Stalder, signed the agreement during a video conference.

The agreement allows Switzerland to cut down its CO2 emissions partly abroad through climate protection projects in the African country.

This move comes after Switzerland and Peru signed the ‘world first’ carbon offset deal under the Paris Agreement in October 2020.

Under the Paris Agreement, Switzerland has committed itself to halve its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

The Swiss-Ghana agreement will begin next year to enable the implementation of climate protection projects such as the installation of several hundred thousand decentralized solar systems as part of the “Ghana National Clean Energy Program”.

This program is expected to strengthen the expansion of renewable energies and energy-efficient technologies.

President Simonetta Sommaruga witnessed the signing ceremony via video conference from Bern.

Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng was also present at the ceremony in Accra.

Clear rules for the protection of the environment and human rights

The agreement obliges both parties to use a method that prevents double counting of achieved emission reductions.

It also defines a clear framework for the international transfer of CO2 reductions and their recognition by Ghana and Switzerland.

The treaty establishes criteria to ensure that climate projects do
not harm the environment, ensure sustainable development, and respect human rights.

According to the agreement, there must be no evidence of a violation of human rights or national legislation.

In this case, the transfer of emission reductions from the project in question would be immediately suspended.

These criteria are continuously reviewed over the duration of climate projects.
