    In a recent statement, Mzbel recalled the last time she saw musician Castro before his mysterious disappearance. According to her, their last encounter was during the funeral of Ronny Coaches, a member of Buk Bak, when they worked together on a tribute song.

    “The last time I saw Castro was when Ronny Coaches passed away, and we composed a tribute song. I haven’t set my eyes on him since,” she revealed.

    She clarified that her son was born six years after her friendship with Castro ended, dismissing assumptions that he could be the child’s father.

    “People assume he is the father because we were once close, but I will not disclose who my son’s father is on social media. The attention usually does more harm than good,” she stated.

    “It is the new era we’re in, and it demands that you see what’s happening and you share it. If you’re not getting any jokes from your partner, your friend, your spouse, then there’s somebody they’re sharing it with, and it’s definitely not you. So start looking out for that,” he added.

    The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called on the government to ensure multinational social media companies operating in Ghana fulfill their tax obligations.

    Addressing Parliament, he expressed concern over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) inability to effectively tax these digital platforms despite their significant financial activities in the country.

    “While we embrace digitalisation to enhance revenue collection, we must also ensure Ghana benefits financially from these digital transactions. If social media platforms generate revenue within our economy, they must meet their tax obligations,” he stated.

    Opoku made these remarks while contributing to a discussion on Ghana’s digital economy, following a statement by Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle, and Kennedy Osei Nyarko, MP for Akim Swedru. The discussion focused on the need for stronger regulations to govern digital transactions and tax compliance.

    Other contributors, including Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, emphasized the role of social media companies in fraud prevention and revenue accountability.

    Opoku further highlighted that revenue generated from taxing these platforms could be channeled into critical national development projects, including road infrastructure and other essential services.

    He called for a structured approach to prevent Ghana from missing out on potential financial inflows, urging Parliament and relevant authorities to implement robust digital tax policies.

    Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has called on social media companies to take responsibility for verifying public officials as part of efforts to combat online fraud.

    Speaking in Parliament, he urged digital platforms to strengthen identity verification measures to prevent impersonation and fraudulent activities.

    “At one point, I had to issue disclaimers on my social media pages, informing the public that any account in my name without a verification tag—the blue tick—was fake,” he revealed.

    He recounted instances where scammers created fake Facebook accounts using his name to deceive unsuspecting individuals, stressing the urgent need for stricter digital regulations.

    Opoku’s remarks were made during a discussion on digital safety, following a statement by Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kennedy Osei Nyarko. Other MPs, including Minister for Communication Samuel Nartey George, echoed similar concerns.

    “As we advance digitalisation, we must safeguard citizens from fraudsters who exploit them under pretences. Social media companies must take responsibility by verifying public officials and removing fraudulent accounts,” he added.

    Opoku urged the Communication Ministry to prioritise policies that enhance online identity security, ensuring a safer digital space for all Ghanaians.

    Meta offers TikTokers $5,000 to join Facebook, Instagram

    Social media giant Meta has offered to pay up to $5,000 (£4,040) to popular creators in the United States who join Facebook and Instagram.

    It says those joining from “third-party social apps” will get cash based on “an evaluation of your social presence”.

    Though it does not mention TikTok by name, the timing would suggest Meta is attempting to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding its rival, as questions swirl about whether President Trump can find a way of preserving it for US users.

    TikTok says it has 170 million users in the US – with many of them relying on it for their livelihoods – meaning lots of people would be seeking an alternative place to post if the platform disappeared.

    Meta says on its website that those accepted into the so-called “Breakthrough bonus programme” will be paid the money during their first 90 days on the app, so long as they post regularly.

    Users must post at least 20 reels on Facebook and 10 reels on Instagram – Meta’s version of vertical TikTok videos – during each 30-day period.

    It also dictates that these must be original videos, rather than those previously shared on other platforms.

    But not everyone can join – the cash will only be available to those people who are completely new to either Facebook or Instagram.

    And the firm will seemingly decide who to accept on a case-by-case basis, as people must apply to be accepted onto the programme.

    It is also offering other perks, such as a free subscription to its blue check verification system.

    Meta courts TikTokers

    This is not the first move by Meta to go after ByteDance’s users.

    On Sunday, the firm announced Edits, an app strikingly similar to ByteDance’s CapCut – a video editing app which went offline when the ByteDance ban took effect that same day.

    And two days earlier, Meta posted a video in which two creators discussed Facebook’s “new affiliate link experience for your shoppable content” – in other words Meta’s attempt to build its own version of the highly successful TikTok Shop.

    In the new system, Meta users will be able to add prominent affiliate links directly on their videos – rather than in the comments – exactly how it works on TikTok.

    But that’s not all the changes Meta has made – and perhaps the most visually significant is a direct change to how Instagram looks.

    Rather than posts and videos being square on user profiles, they are now rectangular – again, clearly taking inspiration from TikTok.

    This has led to some backlash from creators frustrated that their profiles now look different, and Instagram boss Adam Mosseri said he was aware of the criticisms.

    “One of the mistakes I made was not giving people enough of a heads up,” he said in a post on Threads – a platform which was itself launched by Meta in attempt to capitalise on the turbulence at Twitter, now X.

    The #OccupyJulorbiHouse protesters were arrested during their demonstration, which took place over the weekend.

    The arrests followed a three-day protest at the 37 military Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.

    On Sunday, September 22, tensions escalated as a major confrontation occurred between protesters from Democracy Hub and the Ghana Police Service, marking the second day of the demonstrations.

    The protestors have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court. They face five charges: conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful assembly, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, breach of public peace, and assault on public officers.

    They pleaded not guilty to all charges and are set to reappear in court on October 8, 2024.

    African countries like Nigeria can speak of cross-dressers such as Bobrisky, and James Brown. These men have faced severe repercussions, including imprisonment and even violence. However, they also have a fan base.

    The resentment for male cross-dressers is also present in Ghana. On the X platform, some Ghanaians continue to pass derogatory remarks.

    Due to the female roles they play, they are labelled as gays by some Ghanaians. It is important to note that none of the Ghanaian cross-dressers cited for this article have come out of the closet or indicated that they are not straight.

    Some Ghanaians have called on the Ghana Police Service to arrest such individuals. Such a request has prompted the need to find out if presently, Ghana has provisions in its laws, that could see such cross-dressers behind bars.

    Presently, Ghana does not have any laws that make cross-dressing illegal. The closest thing to a law is the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill of 2021, also known as the anti-LGBTQ bill.

    On February 28, 2024, Ghana’s Parliament unanimously passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021.

    The bill which is yet to be assented to by President Akufo-Addo to become law criminalises the mere identification as an LGBTQ+ community member and “related activities,” including same-sex relationships, the use of sex toys, and cross-dressing. 

    Per reports from one of the proponents of the bill, Sam Nartey George, several amendments have been made to the bill, indicating that the initial document which circulated on social media three years ago has been altered.

    In a media engagement, he noted that some amendments include sanctions for males and females who cross-dress to make sexual advances to their same gender and not necessarily cross-dressing for entertainment purposes.

    Presently, the content of the bill has not been made public as the President has been advised against receiving the bill from the Clerk of Parliament due to the legal action against the bill currently at the Supreme Court.

    In the majority of Ghana’s cultural practices, it is prohibited for a man to dress as a female for his day-to-day activities. The only instances where men and women can be portrayed as the opposite gender is during festivals.

    Although cross-dressing is sometimes associated with the LGBT+ community, it’s important to note that not all cross-dressers identify as queer, and cross-dressing does not automatically imply an LGBT+ identity.

    Meanwhile, Ghanaian female dancehall artiste cum gospel preacher, Mercy Onuawonto Sam, popularly known as Iona Reine has issued a word of caution to cross-dressers in Ghana.

    According to her, the young men who dress up as women for comedy will end up in hell if they continue. Iona added that the Bible is against men and women who dress in the opposite sex for entertainment.

The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023,” the email read, as reported by GhOne TV on their X page.

    This revelation comes after Chef Smith’s press conference at La Palm Beach Hotel on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, where he formally celebrated his supposed significant feat. A banner at the entrance to the conference room announced: “Press Conference. Revealing the New World Cook-a-Thon Record Holder. Millennium Chef Smith from Ghana with an astounding 802 hours, 25 minutes, surpassing Irish King, Alan Fisher.”

    Following subsequent reports, Chef Smith was seen displaying a plaque that included a certificate from GWR, proclaiming him as the new record holder.
