10 NPP scandals that will be probed when NDC comes to power

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that if they secure victory in the December 7, 2024 elections, they will launch investigations into numerous scandals that have occurred during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration over the past seven years.

These scandals include incidents of election violence and the mismanagement of public funds.

Here are ten scandals the NDC promises to investigate should they win power in 2024:

    1. The killing of eight persons during the 2020 elections

Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to institute investigations into the killing of eight persons during the 2020 elections.

Mahama has assured the families of all who lost their lives during the tragic incident not to despair. Eight people lost their lives from gunshots allegedly fired by military personnel during the elections.

“Insha Allah, when we come into office, we will investigate the killings, bring the perpetrators to face the law, and pay the appropriate compensations,” Mahama was quoted as saying during his campaign at Techiman North.

    2. Commission of inquiry on state lands

Mahama has committed to establishing a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the alleged misappropriation of state lands, particularly focusing on expropriated Ga-Dangbe lands.

This commission aims to uncover the truth and resolve public land management issues.

    3. Ambulance spare parts

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the NDC will investigate a scandal involving over $34.9 million authorized by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for purchasing spare parts for ambulances when the party wins power in the upcoming December 7, 2024 elections.

The cost per ambulance exceeded the value of new ambulances, raising questions about financial mismanagement.

    4. Appearance fee

Ablakwa has also assured that the next NDC administration will conduct a full-scale corruption probe following revelations in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ documentary, “Galamsey Economy,” in which Minister of State Charles Adu Boahen allegedly solicited a $200,000 token for Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s support as appearance fee.

    5. Sky train

The Minority in Parliament is also targeting a victory in the 2024 elections to demand answers regarding a $2 million investment for a Sky Train project in Accra.

The Auditor-General’s report indicated that feasibility studies had not been undertaken, yet the payment was made.

    6. COVID-19 management and expenditures

The NDC plans to investigate Ghana’s management and expenditures related to COVID-19, including the procurement processes and allocation of funds.

    7. Agyapa Royalties deal

The controversial Agyapa Royalties deal, which involved monetizing Ghana’s gold royalties, will be scrutinized for potential conflicts of interest and lack of transparency.

    8. PDS scandal

John Mahama intends to fully investigate the PDS scandal, which resulted in a $190 million loss due to alleged fraudulent activities in the power distribution agreement.

    9. African games expenditure

Chairman of the Sports Committee of Parliament, Kobena Mensah Wisdom Woyome, has vowed to ensure accountability regarding the government’s expenditure on the 13th Africa Games, including a $3 million payment to GBC and $15 million spent on feeding athletes.

    10. Illegal sole-sourced contracts

The NDC will investigate illegal sole-sourced contracts awarded under the Akufo-Addo administration, aiming to uncover any instances of corruption and favouritism.
