    South coast of India pounded by Cyclone Michaung

    A big storm with lots of rain and strong winds is hitting the southern coast of India. Some people have died because of it.

    Many people in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have been moved from their homes because they are in areas that could flood.

    Heavy rains have caused flooding in many neighborhoods in Chennai. The flooding has led to cars being washed away and trees being pulled up from the ground.

    Chennai airport, which is one of the busiest in India, stopped working on Monday.

    Two people died when the rain made a wall fall down in Chengalpattu, according to Reuters news agency.

    The cyclone called Michaung, with winds as fast as 110km/h (68mph), is supposed to hit Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday morning between Nellore and Machilipatnam.

    Weather experts have warned that some areas in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are in big danger, and schools should be careful. Schools and banks are closed on Monday and will stay closed on Tuesday in at least four areas.

    In Chennai and nearby areas, many factories shut down, including ones that make iPhones, according to Reuters.

    In December 2015, 400 people died in Chennai when the city was flooded.

    There has been a lot of rain in north Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh in the past day, and there are warnings for rain and strong winds in those areas as well as in Telangana and Odisha.

    India’s weather department has warned people to stay inside in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry.

    It has also said that a lot of houses in the area will be badly damaged, and it warned fishermen not to go out to sea in certain coastal areas.

    A warning for strong winds has been given for some areas near the Bay of Bengal.

    Some areas in Andhra Pradesh could receive more than 20 centimeters (eight inches) of rain in the next day.

    In the last day, some parts of Chennai have gotten a lot of rain, with Perungudi getting the most at 29cm.

    About 7,000 people have been moved from the state’s coastal areas and another 21,000 might also need to leave, depending on how bad the cyclone is, according to the media.

    There is a warning for thick fog in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan.

    The bad weather should be gone by Wednesday morning.
