PSG announces Luis Enrique as new coach

French champions, Paris Saint-Germain, have announced the appointment of former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique as their new coach.

The 53-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the club. Luis Enrique had been without a team since his dismissal as the coach of the Spanish national team in December of last year.

He takes over from Christophe Galtier, whose departure from PSG was confirmed earlier on the same day.

Luis Enrique was officially presented by PSG at a press conference held at their state-of-the-art training facility in Poissy, located in the north-west of Paris.

The club’s president, Nasser al-Khelaifi, was also present during the unveiling.

“I’m delighted to be joining Paris in order to enjoy a new experience,” Luis Enrique said in a club statement.

“It’s so exciting to meet new people, to live in this city, to learn a new language and, above all, to manage PSG.”

The new coach, whose full name is Luis Enrique Martinez Garcia, is the eighth man to lead the club since the transformative Qatari takeover of 2011 and, like those before him, will be charged with bringing them the success in the Champions League that has so far proved elusive.

PSG have never won Europe’s most prestigious club competition, coming closest when they lost in the final to Bayern Munich in 2020.

They have gone out in the last 16 in five of the last seven seasons, losing to Bayern at that stage in the campaign just finished. That defeat proved costly for Galtier.

Luis Enrique arrives with pedigree in the Champions League, having won it as coach of Barcelona in 2015 when a brilliant team led by an attack of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez beat Juventus in the final.

He now joins a club beginning their latest rebuild following the departure of Messi at the end of his two-year stay.

    Mbappe future in doubt

There are doubts surrounding the future of superstar forward Kylian Mbappe after he told the club he would not renew a contract that expires next year.

Several high-profile new signings are expected to be confirmed as the club prepares to start pre-season training in the coming days, with a tour to Japan scheduled for later this month.

Luis Enrique brought to an end a three-year stay at Barca in 2017 and then became Spain coach in 2018.

However, he quit in June 2019 and announced the death of his nine-year-old daughter from bone cancer two months later.

He returned to the Spain post in November of that year, retaking the reins from Robert Moreno, and took La Roja to the Euro 2020 semi-finals and the 2021 UEFA Nations League final before being fired after their elimination from last year’s World Cup in the last 16 in a penalty shoot-out against Morocco.

Galtier had only been in charge for one season and still had a year to run on his contract, but his departure had been expected ever since the end of the last Ligue 1 season a month ago.

“Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have decided to terminate his contract as coach of the first team,” the club said in a statement.

“Everyone at Paris Saint-Germain thanks Christophe Galtier, as well as his assistants Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento, for their professionalism and commitment over the course of the season, and wishes them the best in their future careers.”

Galtier led PSG to a French record 11th title but that success was also overshadowed by their disappointing exit from the Champions League and a French Cup last-16 loss to Marseille.

The final weeks of Galtier’s reign were also marred by accusations that he made racist remarks about players during his previous job at Nice.

He has vehemently denied the accusations but will stand trial in December on charges of “moral harassment and discrimination on the grounds of actual or supposed membership or non-membership of a particular ethnic group, nation, alleged race or religion”, according to prosecutors in Nice.

The offences are punishable by three years’ imprisonment and a 45,000-euro ($49,000) fine.

PSG fires Christophe Galtier ahead of Luis Enrique’s announcement as new coach

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has officially parted ways with Christophe Galtier, terminating the manager’s contract at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

Despite leading PSG to a league title in the previous season, the French coach fell short in the UEFA Champions League, as the team was eliminated by Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

Galtier, who previously managed clubs such as Nice, Lille, and Saint-Etienne, joined PSG last summer.

However, reports indicate that he is set to be replaced by former Spain and FC Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.

The termination of Galtier’s contract is viewed as a necessary step before the announcement of Luis Enrique as the new head coach for PSG, according to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Galtier’s departure adds to a series of high-profile exits from PSG, including Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos.

    Galtier’s stint as PSG coach

According to TransferMarkt, Galtier assumed the role of manager at the club on July 5, 2022 on a two-year deal which would have expired on June 30, 2024.

However, his team’s disappointing performance in the latter part of the season seems to have been the final straw.

Nevertheless, during his tenure, Galtier led the team from the dugout in 50 matches, securing 34 victories, 6 draws, and suffering 10 defeats.

Under his guidance, PSG scored 120 goals and conceded 53, averaging 2.21 points per game. He achieved success with the team by winning the French Super Cup and clinching the Ligue 1 title.

    Galtier arrested over racism allegations

Adding to the Frenchman’s misery, Galtier was also detained in France in connection with an inquiry into claims of discrimination at OGC Nice.

  • Real Madrid reject Mbappe’s demand for Number 7 shirt to keep Vinicius Jr. happy

Real Madrid reject Mbappe’s demand for Number 7 shirt to keep Vinicius Jr. happy

Real Madrid are cautious about disrupting the harmony within their squad while pursuing the signing of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe, who has decided against renewing his contract with PSG, is being targeted by Los Blancos as the French club wants to avoid losing him for free next year.

According to Sportskeeda, Madrid has declined to meet Mbappe’s two demands in order to prioritize the happiness of Vinicius Junior.

The 24-year-old World Cup Golden Boot winner desires to play as a winger rather than in a central role, but Vinicius currently occupies that position.

Furthermore, Mbappe has expressed a wish to don the prestigious No. 7 jersey at Real Madrid. However, Vinicius recently acquired that number and is expected to keep it for the foreseeable future.

    Mbappe’s Madrid move faces roadblock

Meanwhile, the much-discussed potential transfer of Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid faces a significant hurdle due to his loyalty bonus, PSG Talk reports.

The Frenchman’s loyalty bonus is apparently worth €70 million (pre-tax); therefore, Mbappe does not want to lose that money after he demanded he be paid upfront.

Real Madrid’s pursuit of the French forward aligns with their ambition to bolster their attacking options and reinforce their squad with marquee signings, but they will not be coerced into paying the loyalty bonus.

    Mbappe enjoys holiday amidst saga

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Mbappe has been spotted on vacation in Miami amid his uncertain club football situation.

The 24-year-old was seen basking in the Florida sun as he tried his hand at a game of beach Jenga.

After a gruelling but hugely successful season, in which he netted 41 goals in 43 games for PSG in addition to 13 goals for France, Mbappe took a deserved break from footballing activities and the talk regarding his future.

  • Neymar’s move from PSG a high determinant of Joao Felix’s Potential transfer to PSG

Neymar’s move from PSG a high determinant of Joao Felix’s Potential transfer to PSG

There are rumors suggesting that, forward for Atlético Madrid Joao Félix, may potentially move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Despite having a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2027, both parties seem open to the idea of a departure this summer.

While there aren’t many concrete offers on the table for Félix at the moment, there is a potential interested party, namely PSG.

The Portuguese international, who recently completed a loan spell at Chelsea, has reportedly attracted the attention of the French champions.

However, the success of Félix’s transfer to PSG heavily depends on the outcome of Neymar’s future at the club.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Diario AS, Félix’s potential move to PSG is contingent upon the resolution of Neymar’s situation within the next 10 days.

If PSG fails to finalize Neymar’s situation in time, Félix may consider an alternative plan. It is said that he has expressed his intention to discuss a potential departure with Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone.

    Neymar’s PSG future

While Neymar has his name in the rumour recently, it seems unlikely the 31-year-old will exit this summer.

Diario AS also reports that the pending arrival of Luis Enrique, who coached him at FC Barcelona, Neymar will probably ensure the Brazilian remains at PSG.

Félix’s desire to leave Atlético Madrid stems from various factors.

The 23-year-old might perceive a lack of opportunities to get his career back on track. Additionally, he may desire a new challenge.

Despite his initial promise and occasional moments of brilliance, Félix has struggled to consistently showcase his talent at the Spanish club, contributing to his decision to seek a fresh start elsewhere.

If soon-to-be PSG manager Enrique wants Félix, he still sees the potential the forward flashed at Benfica. Perhaps the Spanish tactician believes he can pull that out of him.

    Felix provides hints on future

Sports Brief earlier reported Joao Felix had previously hinted he would love to make permanent his loan move to Chelsea.

Chelsea were been linked with a second loan bid for Felix and Atletico were reportedly demanding €100 million to let him leave permanently.

New Manager Mauricio Pochettino has since quashed the talks of Felix extending his stay at the Premier League club.

  • Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, expresses interest to coach Mbappe

Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, expresses interest to coach Mbappe

Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane, has expressed his delight at the prospect of coaching Kylian Mbappe, who is widely regarded as one of the club’s most coveted transfer targets.

The future of Kylian Mbappe remains uncertain, as he is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain either this summer or potentially the following year.

Zidane has admitted that he himself would love to have the opportunity to coach the French superstar.

“When you are a coach and there is a player like him, of course, you want to coach him.

Many things can happen. It could happen one day. He is a player who represents the French shirt well. In any case, I admire what he does.

He is beautiful, he is strong,” Zidane explained at an EA event, which was reported on by Marca.

That would suggest that Zidane would perhaps be open to one of two destinations, at least at this point.

    Zidane’s next coaching destination

Zinedine Zidane, who has previously managed Real Madrid twice, has expressed his interest in coaching Kylian Mbappe, indicating a potential desire to return to the club if the PSG forward were to join.

The current Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti, is expected not to renew his contract, which expires in 2024, according to reports. This opens up the possibility for Zidane’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alternatively, Zidane may also have ambitions to coach the French national team.

Didier Deschamps is currently the coach until the end of the 2026 World Cup, but Zidane has been linked with the position in the past.

It is worth noting that Zidane’s comments may have been spontaneous, and expressing his desire to coach Mbappe could simply be a natural response for any coach.

His statement, “It could happen one day,” may hint at an underlying aspiration to see their collaboration become a reality, considering Zidane’s experience in handling the media.

    Zidane rejects PSG

Reports have it that Zidane turned down the chance to replace Christophe Galtier in the PSG dugout.

Whilst Galtier’s departure hasn’t yet been officially confirmed by PSG, it has been widely reported that the former OGC Nice manager, who only arrived at the club in the summer, has already been informed by Sporting Advisor Luís Campos that he is no longer Les Parisiens’ manager.

  • Kylian Mbappe wishes for ‘Messi-style deal’ when he leaves PSG

Kylian Mbappe wishes for ‘Messi-style deal’ when he leaves PSG

Kylian Mbappe is said to desire a contract comparable to Lionel Messi’s arrangement at Inter Miami when he eventually departs from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to reports.

The 24-year-old French superstar is anticipated to leave the Ligue 1 giants either during this summer transfer window or potentially next year, and he is likely to receive numerous offers.

However, any club interested in signing Mbappe will need to meet the demands set forth by the World Cup winner.

According to Okdiaro, Mbappe wants his next contract to include a series of variables that would see him earn money from the income generated by the sports brand.

It would also include payments from a portion of television rights, similar to Messi’s contract in the MLS.

Messi made the move to the USA after his contract expired with PSG this summer.

All this extra payment would come on top of a contract that would likely be similar to the one he is on with PSG.

It is thought that Mbappe is currently earning £1million-per-week as his normal salary.

However, the report claims that he has been paid almost £300m in bonuses.

Real Madrid appear to be the favourites to sign Mbappe, having come close to signing him last summer before he signed a new contract with PSG.

However, there is interest from Premier League sides in signing the French superstar.

Liverpool are willing to pay £215m to PSG in order to sign the forward as his future remains up in the air.

Fifa agent Marco Kirdemir told Marca: “Liverpool is competing with Real Madrid and wants to pay a fortune for Mbappé, that fortune he speaks of would be around 300 million.”

He added that PSG chiefs in Qatar are fuming with Mbappe’s contract stance.

He continued: “They told me that they are very angry. They wanted and were confident that he was going to renew. The Emir is very upset.”

However, Los Blancos still are said to be “hopeful” of completing the signing this summer.

Both they and PSG are said to be in agreement over doing the deal, although they remain £68million apart when it comes to the fee.

Mbappe joins France players to condemn, police for deadly Paris shooting

The death of a 17-year-old delivery driver, Naël M., who was fatally shot during a police check in a Paris suburb, has sparked outrage among prominent France internationals, including Kylian Mbappe.

The incident has evoked nationwide concern, leading to widespread expressions of indignation, condolences, and calls for justice.

French President Emmanuel Macron described the young man’s death as “inexplicable and inexcusable.” The tragic event also resulted in unrest in several towns surrounding Paris, with Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reporting 31 arrests, 25 injured police officers, and 40 burned cars during overnight protests.

“I hurt for my France,” Mbappe, who grew up in the Paris suburb of Bondy, wrote Wednesday in a Twitter message accompanied by broken heart emoticons.

“Unacceptable situation. All my thoughts go to the family and loved ones of Naël, this little angel gone much too soon.”

The tensions focused around the suburban area of Nanterre, where lawyers say the teenager was killed Tuesday during a traffic check.

The police officer suspected of firing on him was detained and faces potential manslaughter charges, according to the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.

The Nanterre neighborhood where Naël lived remained on edge Wednesday morning, with police on guard around the regional administration and burned car wreckage and overturned garbage bins still visible in some areas.

Bouquets of orange and yellow roses were tied to the post where the car crashed after the shooting, on Nanterre’s Nelson Mandela Square.

Naël’s mother appealed online for a silent march on Thursday in her son’s honour, near the scene of his death.

Mike Maignan, another French international player, tweeted about the sense of injustice he felt.

“A bullet in the head…It’s always for the same people that being in the wrong leads to death,” he wrote. Maignan’s France teammate Jules Kounde criticised the media coverage of the teenager’s death.

“As if this latest police blunder wasn’t enough, the 24-hour news channels are taking advantage of it by making a big fuss,” he wrote. “The ‘journalists’ ask ‘questions’ with the sole aim of distorting the truth, criminalizing the victim and finding extenuating circumstances where none exist.

“An age-old method for masking the real problem. Why don’t we turn off the TV and find out what’s going on?”

Darmanin said 1,200 police were deployed overnight and 2,000 would be out in force Wednesday in the Paris region and around other big cities to “maintain order.”

Videos purported to be of the incident were “extremely shocking,” Darmanin said, pledging a full investigation.

The images show two police officers leaning into the driver’s side window of a yellow car before the vehicle pulls away as one officer fires into the window. The car is later seen crashed into a post nearby.

Deadly use of firearms is less common in France than in the United States.

Tuesday’s death unleashed anger in Nanterre and other towns, including around housing projects where many residents struggle with poverty and discrimination and feel police abuse is under-punished.

A lawyer for Naël’s family, Yassine Bouzrou, told The Associated Press they want the police officer pursued for murder instead of manslaughter and want the investigation handed to a different region because they fear Nanterre investigators won’t be impartial.

The lawyers rebutted a reported statement by the police that their lives were in danger because the driver had threatened to run them over.

The government will hold a security meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss next steps, Darmanin said.

The victim was wounded by a gunshot and died at the scene, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

A passenger in the car was briefly detained and released, and police are searching for another passenger, who fled.

Several people have died or sustained injuries at the hands of French police in recent years, prompting demands for more accountability.

France also saw protests against racial profiling and other injustice in the wake of George Floyd’s killing by police in Minnesota.

Messi, Ronaldo GOAT debate: French President Emmanuel Macron names his

French President Emmanuel Macron has added his perspective to the long-standing debate regarding who is the superior footballer between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

For more than 15 years, this rivalry has sparked intense discussions within the football community.

Fans, experts, players, and even politicians have eagerly engaged in the ongoing debate surrounding these remarkable athletes.

“I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo,” he said, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

Displaying a consistent penchant for engaging in popular sports discussions, the French leader also openly expressed his determination to employ all available means to persuade Kylian Mbappe to remain at Paris Saint-Germain beyond the current summer transfer window, Goal reports.

Perhaps Macron would also use the same tactics to lure Ronaldo to Ligue 1 in future.

    Messi edges Ronaldo in H2H

Sports Brief also reported that Messi has the edge over Ronaldo in terms of goals scored across Europe’s top five leagues, as the Argentine also departs the continent.

In a move that all but confirms the end of an era for football, the former Paris Saint-Germain star will debut for Inter Miami in the American MLS as soon as next month.

His major move to the US top flight comes just six months after his long-term rival, Ronaldo, sourly parted ways with Manchester United for Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr.

    Macron makes vow about Mbappe

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on French President, Emmanuel Macron vowing to help Mbappe star in the country’s capital, amid continued reports the star will leave this season.

The leader’s vow follows a formal letter from Mbappe to PSG about his decision not to activate his one-year contract extension clause, thereby allowing him to leave for free in 2024.

Lionel Messi allegedly took a swipe at Paris Saint-Germain before his move to Inter Miami, offering some tough advice to his now-former teammate Kylian Mbappe.

During his two-year tenure at PSG, Messi had a mixed impact, contributing an impressive 67 goals in 75 appearances.

While he achieved success at the domestic level, his aspirations for European glory remained unfulfilled, leaving both the Argentine superstar and the passionate PSG fanbase somewhat disappointed.

As Messi bid farewell to PSG amidst criticism from fans, reports surfaced suggesting that he advised Kylian Mbappe to consider leaving the club.

According to Defensa Central, Messi allegedly encouraged Mbappe to pursue his dream of becoming a Golden Ball winner by considering a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“I prefer that you go to Barca. But if you want to go to Madrid, do it. You deserve a real winning project,” Messi said, as quoted by GOAL.

Manchester City’s Silva set to accept a deal from Saudi Arabia

Marca reports that Bernardo Silva, the midfielder for Manchester City, is nearing completion of his transfer to the Saudi Pro League.

The 28-year-old has been the subject of speculation regarding a €70 million move away from the Etihad during this summer transfer window.

Both Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona were rumored to have expressed interest in the Portuguese international.

However, it appears that Silva is poised to join the growing list of European stars making a move to Saudi Arabia.

Silva is under contract with City until 2025, but it is reported that he is open to leaving the club in order to seek a new challenge. Silva played an integral role under Pep Guardiola last season, featuring 55 times across all competitions, netting seven goals and eight assists.

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has received a lucrative offer to join the Saudi Pro League, and talks have already been held according to the Athletic.

However, Silva intends to turn down the opportunity.

Despite his rejection, the Saudi clubs remain determined in their pursuit of high-profile signings this summer.

It is reported that Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy are also poised to join SPL clubs, while Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo have already made the move.

Silva is under contract with Man City until 2025, but has been strongly linked with a move away.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are both reportedly interested and the midfielder would prefer to continue to ply his trade in Europe.

Barcelona were interested in signing Silva in January but couldn’t raise the €70 million needed, while Man City were reluctant to part ways while the season was ongoing.

In his team’s triumph over the Aussies on Thursday in an international friendly, Messi scored after just 79 seconds.

After a demanding 41-game season for Paris Saint-Germain, he played the complete 90 minutes.

According to ESPN, the 35-year-old has subsequently signed with Inter Miami of Major League Soccer, raising the possibility of when he may play his debut game for his new team.

Asked about his schedule for his new US side, as quoted by Mirror UK, he replied:

“I want to go on my holiday and then afterwards, we go again.”

The 2022 World Cup winners face Indonesia in another friendly next Monday, but the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave the Argentina camp for a break, which could last up to three weeks.

He is expected to return to his home country before linking up with Inter Miami, which means he could play his first game in America around mid-to-late July.

Inter Miami faces St. Louis City on July 15, with the MLS All-Star match taking place on July 19 against Premier League runners-up, Arsenal.

“What I said [about Qatar 2022 likely being his last World Cup] is something normal due to age and time. Qualifying matches are coming, then the Copa America; it is very far to think about the World Cup.”

The Argentine veteran also believes one has to enjoy the present.

“…Think about what’s to come, despite the wins – we can’t stay with that.”

The United States of America, Canada, and Mexico will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the States being Messi’s new home country.

    Messi snubs City’s youngster request

Sports Brief also reported on Messi snubbing Australia’s Alex Robertson for a jersey switch at the end of their international friendly on June 15.

The veteran captained Argentina to a 2-0 win in Beijing, with the departing Paris Saint-Germain forward scoring the fastest goal of his stellar career.

After the game, Robertson was seemingly ignored by Messi, with the Manchester City player unable to attract the attention of the new MLS man.

Messi was also asked about the prospect of representing Argentina at the 2026 World Cup. The forward, who will be 39 when the next tournament rolls around, said it would be difficult:

PSG sets sights on ex Barcelona manager as target as negotiations with Julian Nagelsmann falter

Paris Saint-Germain appears to have acted swiftly following reports of a failed attempt to secure Julian Nagelsmann as their new coach.

Nagelsmann had been strongly linked with a move to the French club as a potential replacement for Christophe Galtier.

However, negotiations between Nagelsmann and PSG did not reach a successful agreement, as reported by L’Equipe.

As a result, former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has emerged as a prominent candidate in the race to become the new head coach of the Ligue 1 champions.

A report filed by PSG Community suggests that the Spanish manager will be in Paris in the next few hours to likely secure his contract.

Nagelsmann reportedly informed some players waiting to arrive that he will not be managing PSG. One player said to have been to the French giants as part of Nagelsmann’s arrival was Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.

Nonetheless, with Enrique possibly taking over the managerial role at PSG, it seems a move for Pavard might be out of the question. If the 53-year-old does take over, it will be interesting to see what players he will desire that sporting advisor Luis Campos should pursue.

    Nagelsmann’s agent slams Chelsea

Meanwhile, there were many complications surrounding Nagelsmann. First, he is still under contract with Bayern until the end of his deal in 2026 – this was agreed upon when he was sacked.

The Blues hierarchy were also reportedly concerned about his age – 35 – and the reasons for his dismissal from the Bavarian club which could hint at what was expected from him.

However, Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth, appeared to have confirmed reports that he had rejected the London outfit’s advances and not the other way around.

“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call, there were some phone conversations. It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment,” he told BILD’s podcast, Phrasenmaher.

Struth further expatiated the situation at Chelsea had compelled his client to decide against taking the job.

    Nagelsmann’s sad altercation with Mane

In related coverage, Sports Brief reported on Nagelsmann’s dressing room bust-up with Bayern’s Senegalese superstar, Sadio Mane.

The incident is alleged to have occurred after the Bavarians’ second-leg Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

It was reported the former Liverpool forward was unhappy that Nagelsmann only brought him on late against the French side.

PSG want another Madrid star to join Mbappe in transfer deal

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe has encountered a fresh complication due to Paris Saint-Germain’s latest demand for the 24-year-old superstar.

Mbappe has notified PSG through a letter that he will not be extending his current contract with the club, leaving the French champions with the task of finding potential suitors for the forward before his deal expires in 2024.

Reportedly, PSG is now requesting highly-rated player Rodrygo Goes as part of the deal with Real Madrid to secure the services of the unsettled Mbappe during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Fansided.

Rodrygo has risen to become one of Los Blancos’ key players, scoring nine goals for Carlo Ancelotti’s team in La Liga and five in the Champions League.

PSG are unwilling to lose the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot winner for free in 2024 and will instead trade him to any team willing to match their terms this summer.

    Rodrygo opens door for Mbappe

Meanwhile, Rodrygo has revealed that he would be happy to see the French superstar join him at Real Madrid next season, Marca reports.

The Brazilian forward described Mbappe as one of the best players in the world and disclosed that it would be an honour to play alongside him at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Mbappe has been widely tipped to join Real Madrid this summer.

    Kylian Mbappe wants PSG stay

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Mbappe confirming his PSG stay was his ‘only option for now’ after the superstar told the club he would not be extending his contract beyond 2024.

The 24-year-old forward reiterated his plan after several reports linking him away from the French capital emerged, with rumours claiming he would seal a move to Real Madrid.

Mbappe said he was not particularly surprised by suggestions PSG could look to cash in by selling him now, rather than allowing him to leave for nothing at the end of next season.

  • Mbappe doesn’t “care about the reactions” to his exit letter to PSG

Mbappe doesn’t “care about the reactions” to his exit letter to PSG

When questioned about the formal letter he had sent to Paris Saint-Germain regarding his future, Kylian Mbappe responded playfully with a cheeky remark.

The uncertainty surrounding his continuation with the Ligue 1 club has made him the center of attention throughout the week.

However, Mbappe’s response to the inquiry about the infamous letter was mischievous and light-hearted.

“Honestly, I did not think I was going to offend anyone. I only sent a letter,” he began, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “I didn’t know a letter could kill someone. It’s just a letter. I don’t care about the reactions.”

    Mbappe’s letter to PSG

As Sports Brief reported, Mbappe’s situation in France remains the headline news of the football week.

The 24-year-old striker’s current deal expires at the end of next season, with the option of another year.

According to Reuters, he made it clear to the club’s hierarchy via a formal letter that he will not activate the one-year extension clause in his current contract, thereby potentially departing Paris for free in the summer of 2024.

This decision is believed to have frustrated the club. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old has maintained that he envisions his future with PSG in the near term, despite rumours suggesting a move to Real Madrid this summer.

However, Mbappe sent PSG a formal letter on Monday, confirming he would not be extending his deal.

    Mbappe aims jab at PSG

Sports Brief also reported on Mbappe taking a swipe at PSG over their underwhelming performances in a bombshell interview.

The 24-year-old also slammed the decision to allow Lionel Messi to leave as the striker looks to leave Paris via a free transfer in 2024.

Reports in France claimed he wants to join Real Madrid this summer, but Mbappe told AFP he plans to stay at PSG for his last season.

  • French president Emmanuel Macron vows to intervene in Mbappe’s stay at PSG

French president Emmanuel Macron vows to intervene in Mbappe’s stay at PSG

French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his determination to personally persuade Kylian Mbappe to remain at Paris Saint-Germain for another season.

Macron has affirmed his willingness to involve himself in the ongoing Mbappe saga, as he strives to convince the talented French international to continue his career within the country.

Despite Mbappe informing PSG of his decision not to sign a new contract with the club, he has vehemently denied the rumors linking him to a potential move to Madrid.

Despite that, the Spanish club are said to be willing to pay €200 million (£170m/$216m) to secure his signature this summer.

President Macron was asked about Mbappe’s situation by RMC Sport and replied: “I don’t have the scoop, but I will try and push for it.”

Macron spoke to Mbappe in a similar situation a year ago, playing a part in convincing him to stay in the French capital amid intense interest from Real.

This time, Madrid could attempt to force through a move for Mbappe after seeing Karim Benzema head to Saudi Arabia.

They have also been linked with Harry Kane but the club have followed Mbappe since his time with Monaco, and they may see a golden opportunity to finally land the World Cup-winner in this transfer window.

The Mbappe saga is likely to drag on throughout the summer, with reporting suggesting that Madrid will wait for either the player, or the French club, to make the first move.

  • Mbappe laments France’s disrespectful treatment of Messi

Lionel Messi faced challenges during his two-year stint in France with Paris Saint-Germain, and Kylian Mbappe was disappointed with the way his compatriot was treated.

After the surprising announcement that Messi would not continue at Barcelona in 2021, he made the decision to join Paris Saint-Germain, signing a two-year contract.

His first year under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino was underwhelming, as he only managed to score six goals in the league.

However, he experienced a resurgence under the guidance of Christophe Galtier and went on to lead Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, defeating France in the final.

According to Mirror UK, the 35-year-old confirmed that everything changed after the Qatar triumph. He then departed Ligue 1 for the Major League Soccer in the United States.

    Mbappe questions Messi’s treatment

Mbappe has spoken on the former Barcelona star’s departure and admitted he expected far more from his countrymen towards him.

“We’re talking about potentially the best player in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves. Personally, I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France. It’s a shame, but that’s how it went. We will have to do what we can to replace him.”

PSG could be without the famous front three next season. Brazilian playmaker Neymar is set to leave after the club ultras protested at his house.

Mbappe also wrote a letter informing the club he would not extend his contract, which expires in 2024. The notice infuriated the club, and they want him sold this summer to avoid losing him for free next summer.

    Piers Morgan trolls Messi

Sports Brief reported that British broadcaster and Cristiano Ronald’s ally, Piers Morgan trolled Messi for moving to the MLS at 35.

Ronaldo was heavily criticised for moving to Saudi Arabia for money at 37 after his interview with Morgan got him into trouble at Manchester United.

Mbappe criticises PSG again, adds that Messi’s departure is bad news

In a shocking interview, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player Kylian Mbappe criticized the club for their disappointing performances and expressed his discontent over the decision to let Lionel Messi leave.

The 24-year-old striker has made it clear that he intends to leave Parc des Princes on a free transfer in 2024.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Mbappe would not be extending his contract with the club, and there were speculations about his potential move to Real Madrid. However, Mbappe clarified to AFP that he plans to remain at PSG for the upcoming season, which will be his last.

But to avoid losing Mbappe in what would be the biggest free transfer of all time, PSG are understood to be looking to cash in on him now if they cannot persuade him into penning fresh terms.

However, it appears that the ex-Monaco forward has already made up his mind, as he explained his reasons for seeking a new adventure to Gazzetta dello Sport.

He said: “For a player like me, the goal is to win everything.

“And we knew that at PSG there were shortcomings that sooner or later we were going to end up paying for.

“I didn’t say I wanted to be sold to Real Madrid or want to leave, but only that I won’t activate the option on the extra year.

“With PSG, there has never been any talk of a renewal.”

    Mbappe discusses Messi’s departure

Mbappe revealed his stance on Messi’s departure after just two years in the French capital, with the 35-year-old set to join MLS outfit Inter Miami.

He remarked: “Messi gone? Bad news now needs to be replaced.

“He’s one of the greatest players in the history of football. It’s never good news when someone like Messi leaves.

“I don’t quite understand why so many people were so relieved that he was gone. He didn’t get the respect he deserved in France.”

Reports have stated that Wilfried Zaha who’s set to leave Crystal Palace on free could replace Messi at PSG.

Meanwhile, PSG could lose another star in their attacking trio this summer with Brazilian winger Neymar linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia.

    Camavinga wants Mbappe at Madrid

Sports Brief earlier reported Eduardo Camavinga disclosed his position on the rumours linking Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

Mbappe’s recent decision not to activate the one-year extension clause in his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain, which expires next summer, has reignited uncertainty about his future.

Speaking on the potential of playing alongside Mbappe at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Camavinga, who is on international duty with France, said, as quoted by MadridXtra:

“You have seen that he has already spoken. I have nothing to say. I would be very happy if he comes to Real Madrid.”

  • Mbappe expresses disappointment over PSG’s Champions League failures

Mbappe expresses disappointment over PSG’s Champions League failures

Kylian Mbappe has expressed his frustration once again as Paris Saint-Germain suffered another disappointing season in the Champions League.

PSG’s struggles in Europe’s premier competition have become a recurring theme, and this season was no different. A slow start in the group stage resulted in them finishing second behind Benfica, with Juventus and Maccabi Haifa also in the mix.

This meant that PSG faced a challenging round of 16 tie against the formidable Bayern Munich, who have won the tournament six times.

Unfortunately for the Parisian club, Bayern Munich dominated both legs of the tie, securing comfortable victories home and away to claim a 3-0 aggregate win.

As a result, PSG exited the competition at the last-16 stage for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.

Mbappe, who came closest in the 2020 final against familiar foes Bayern, has bemoaned yet more failure this term, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport: “For a player like me, the goal is to win everything.

And we knew that at PSG there were shortcomings that sooner or later we were going to end up paying for.

Mbappe added on the recent controversy surrounding his contract, which is due to expire next year, and reports claiming he is set to push for a move to Real Madrid this summer:

“I didn’t say I wanted to be sold to Real Madrid or want to leave, but only that I won’t activate the option on the extra year.

With PSG, there has never been any talk of a renewal.”

As the Frenchman alludes to, there have been rumours linking him with a move away from Paris and to Madrid – who certainly know how to win a Champions League.

Boasting a record 14 European crowns to their name, Real are in need of a long-term replacement for the recently departed Karim Benzema, who sealed a move to Saudi champions Al-Ittihad last week.

To do that, though, Los Blancos will need PSG to put Mbappe up for market, as the player is seemingly insistent he won’t force a move.

If that is the case, Madrid would be happy to part with up to €200 million (£171m/$216m) for the 24-year-old, despite him having just a year left on his contract.

Despite Mbappe’s stance that he doesn’t want to leave just yet, the transfer saga looks to set to dominate yet another summer window.

  • Mbappe says he has not asked to leave PSG this summer

Mbappe says he has not asked to leave PSG this summer

Kylian Mbappe says he has not asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer and that the letter he sent to the club was leaked with the aim of “damaging his image”.

The forward has also taken to Twitter to brand reports that he wants to join Real Madrid this summer as “lies”, adding he is “very happy” with the French champions.

On Monday it emerged that Mbappe had written to PSG to tell them he would not be triggering the clause in his current deal that would see it extended until the summer of 2025, meaning he is set to become a free agent next summer.

In a statement sent to news agency AFP on Tuesday, Mbappe said PSG have known his decision for nearly a year, adding that “the only aim of the letter was to confirm what had already been spoken about previously”.

Mbappe also insisted he has not spoken to PSG about extending his contract.

However, PSG have denied this, saying: “It is emphatically untrue to say Mbappe’s team have not been involved in renewal discussions.”

The club also insist the forward’s letter was provided to the media before it was sent to them.

Mbappe’s statement read: “After having publicly declared in recent weeks that he will be a Parisian next season, Kylian Mbappe did not ask for his departure this summer, but merely confirmed to the club that he was not activating his additional year.

“The management of the club in charge of its extension (signed on May 21 2022) was informed of its decision on July 15 2022 and the sole purpose of the email was to confirm what had already been orally clarified previously.

“Mbappe and his entourage claim they have not discussed this point with the club again during the year, except 15 days ago to announce the sending of the letter. Nor has any possible new extension been mentioned.

“Finally, Mbappe and his entourage regret that the receipt of this letter has been transmitted to the media and that these exchanges are made public with the sole aim of damaging his image and the smooth running of conversations with the club.”

PSG are unwilling to allow Mbappe to leave for free at the end of his contract, meaning he could be sold during the current transfer window.

Mbappe turned down interest from Real Madrid to sign his current PSG contract last summer, with the deal running for two years and including a player option to extend the agreement by 12 months.

  • La Liga eager for Real Madrid to sign Mbappe

La Liga eager for Real Madrid to sign Mbappe

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe this summer has generated optimism within La Liga, as the Spanish top-flight currently lacks prominent star power.

Mbappe has communicated to Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be extending his contract beyond its expiration in 2024. As a result, Real Madrid has emerged as the frontrunners to secure the services of the 24-year-old forward.

According to Football Espana, La Liga views the potential signing of Mbappe as crucial in demonstrating that Real Madrid remains an attractive destination, despite the financial might and allure of the Premier League.

The Spanish topflight is losing star power with the departure of Karim Benzema from Real Madrid another blow, after losses of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar in the past.

La Liga only have two of the top 10 most-followed players that attended the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the league hopes the arrival of Mbappe will increase the league’s popularity again worldwide.

    Madrid to table Mbappe bid

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are ready to bid for Kylian Mbappe this summer rather than waiting to sign him as a free agent when his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires, ESPN reports.

Mbappe has informed PSG that he would not be exercising his option to extend his deal by another year, meaning his contract with the Parisians would be up in June 2024.

PSG would be willing to listen to offers of around €150 million for Mbappe this summer to avoid losing the 2022 World Cup Golden Ball winner for free a year later.

Mbappe speaks amid PSG exit talks

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Kylian Mbappe has clarified the uncertainty surrounding his future following news of his decision to tell Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be taking up an option to extend his contract until 2025.

Mbappe’s current contract with the Ligue 1 champions is set to expire at the conclusion of the season, with a potential extension for an additional year.

However, the Frenchman communicated to PSG via a letter that he unequivocally rejects the prospect of activating the contract’s extension clause for an additional year, regardless of the circumstances.

Mbappe claims he has “never discussed a renewal with PSG” amidst PSG exit allegations

Kylian Mbappe has addressed the speculation surrounding his future after informing Paris Saint-Germain that he will not be exercising the option to extend his contract until 2025.

The talented forward’s current contract with the Ligue 1 champions is due to expire at the end of the season, with a potential extension for an extra year.

In a letter sent to PSG, Mbappe made it clear that he has no intention of activating the contract’s extension clause under any circumstances.

As reported by GOAL, Les Parisiens are contemplating placing the 24-year-old on the transfer market, as the Paris-based club are not prepared to lose their record goal-scorer for free when his current deal runs out.

However, in an effort to provide clarity, Mbappe has come forward to share his perspective on the matter of his contract renewal.

“I have never discussed a renewal with PSG,” he told AFP, as quoted by PSG Report.

“The management of the club in charge has been informed since July 15, 2022, of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter sent was only intended to confirm what had already been clarified orally beforehand.”

The 2018 World Cup winner’s choice not to extend his contract delivers another setback to the French champions, compounding the recent departure of Lionel Messi, who chose not to renew his contract and instead join MLS club Inter Miami.

    PSG clarify Mbappe exit talks

In a related publication, the French youngster’s reported decision to forfeit renewing a deal with Paris Saint-Germain has opened the doors for speculation, with reports gushing in like never before, Sports Brief reported.

PSG chief, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understandably infuriated with the constant flirting between Real Madrid and Mbappe, as has been a constant theme in recent years.

As such, the Spanish publication claims PSG will consider selling their star to any club except the La Liga giants.

Mbappe’s childhood pictures in Chelsea jersey confirms PSG exit rumours

A few hours after the news came that Kylian Mbappe might leave Paris Saint-Germain as early as this summer, a wonderful childhood picture of him wearing a Chelsea jersey reappeared on social media.

According to reports, Mbappe gave PSG executives a formal letter outlining his choice not to use a contract extension clause.

This essentially means that his contract with the French powerhouse will expire after the 2019–20 campaign.

PSG could potentially lose the most intriguing player in world football for nothing the next season. Selling him this summer would be the other choice.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has indicated that they would be keen to move him on this summer should he refuse to extend his contract.

    Which club will Mbappe join?

Rumours have now started to swirl around on where the 24-year-old could be headed next. He has previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid, only for him to make an about-turn and agree to a new deal with PSG.

Manchester United’s prospective owners are also reportedly keen on signing the 2018 World Cup winner should they take over the club.

A section of Chelsea fans have also beseeched the French star to return ‘home’ should he choose to leave this summer. Mbappe is among the long list of players Chelsea rejected. As Marca reports, Chelsea turned him away in 2012 after one session because of his defensive qualities.

His mother, Fayza Laamri, refused to return her child for a second session, with Mbappe going on to rise through the ranks with Monaco as he took the world by storm at the Russia World Cup.

    @CFCDubois said;

“Born in Chelsea, raised in Chelsea & a product of the Chelsea academy. It’s time to come home, Mbappe.”

    @Mr Ebony said:

“I never knew Mbappe has any past affiliation with Chelsea, though. Come home bruh”

Realistically, Chelsea are among the few clubs that can afford his wages, but their lack of European football next season will make it hard for them to sell the idea to Mbappe.

    Mbappe’s letter to PSG

Kylian Mbappe told Paris Saint-Germain on Monday that he would not be taking up an option to extend his contract until 2025. Sports Brief reported that the 24-year-old France striker’s current deal expires at the end of next season, with the option of another year.

The 2018 World Cup winner sent a formal letter to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday afternoon.

In this letter, Mbappe reportedly informed the Parisians that he will not, under any circumstances, be activating the option in his contract for a further year until 2025.

  • PSG to sell Mbappe right away after forward hints of possible contract extension

PSG to sell Mbappe right away after forward hints of possible contract extension

After Kylian Mbappe wrote them a letter alerting them he won’t pursue a 2025 contract option, PSG are considering selling him this summer.

In a year, Mbappe might be available for free transfer, a situation PSG is desperately trying to prevent.

Real Madrid’s future plans heavily involve such a move, however L’Equipe is now claiming that PSG would not permit Mbappe to depart as a free agent, meaning he may be sold this summer.

The 23-year-old had already committed his future to the capital club for the following campaign, amid rising interest from Spanish giants Madrid.

But the option to extend his contract by another year – through to 2025 – will not be activated, due to the specific wishes of the French forward noted in a formal letter sent to the club on Monday.

Having purchased Mbappe for €180 million (£155m/$194m) in 2018, PSG will therefore be looking for at least a partial return on their initial investment.

The news is massively significant for Real Madrid. The 14-time European Champions only said goodbye to veteran forward Karim Benzema a week ago, with the striker calling time on his Madrid career after 14 years in favour of a move to Saudi Arabia.

Los Blancos are in the market for a forward, having already contacted Chelsea about the availability of Kai Havertz, but the chance to land their prime transfer target as early as this summer may be too good an opportunity to turn down.

  • PSG allegedly feel betrayed and hurt by Mbappe over transfer letter leak

PSG allegedly feel betrayed and hurt by Mbappe over transfer letter leak

In a surprising turn of events on Monday, Kylian Mbappe delivered a contractual bombshell by reportedly informing Paris Saint-Germain through a letter that he has no intention of extending his current deal, set to expire in 2024.

The news first broke when the letter was sent to French outlet L’Equipe, causing PSG to feel “betrayed” by the 24-year-old’s actions, as reported by The Mirror.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a potential departure from PSG this summer, with Real Madrid emerging as the most probable destination for the talented forward.

In a surprising twist, it has been revealed that Kylian Mbappe’s contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain in May includes an unreported clause.

According to L’Equipe, the deal is for three years, but with an additional optional year that can only be activated with the player’s consent.

This clause potentially allows Mbappe to leave the club in 2024, a year earlier than previously thought, which may reignite Real Madrid’s interest in the player sooner than expected.

The New York Times has reported that Mbappe has already informed PSG through a letter that he intends to decline the final year of his contract, effectively making him a free agent next summer.

This decision would enable him to join another club outside of France on a pre-contract agreement from January 2024 onwards.

To avoid losing him without receiving a transfer fee, PSG may be compelled to consider selling Mbappe in the current transfer window.

L’Equipe are believed to have contacted the club for comment when they were given a copy of the letter before PSG received it.

The situation is similar to that faced last summer, when Real Madrid had looked set to sign the player only for Mbappe to decide to renew with the French capital club. While the news is something of a shock, it is not without context. The club were reported to have engaged a company to use Twitter accounts to criticise its own players, including Mbappe.

This is what PSG must learn from the UCL winners, Manchester City

Manchester City secured their first-ever Champions League title with a 1-0 victory over Inter Milan in Istanbul.

The triumph represents a significant accomplishment for the Citizens, as it fulfills their long-standing ambition of capturing the most prestigious club competition in Europe.

Both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had set winning the Champions League as their ultimate objective in recent seasons, having dominated their respective domestic leagues.

Manchester City has claimed five out of the last six Premier League titles in England, showcasing their domestic prowess.

Similarly, PSG has been dominant in Ligue 1, clinching the league title all but twice since 2013.

However, it was Manchester City who ultimately emerged victorious in the Champions League, attaining their sought-after goal.

After a failed final effort in 2021, Man City would finally go on to conquer Europe and be crowned UCL winners for the first time over the weekend.

However, PSG seem to have their house in disarray after another woeful season in the competition.

Sports Brief has outlined where PSG must emulate Manchester City if they intend to one day be crowned Champions League winners.

    1. Assemble a balanced squad

PSG has a star-studded squad but one that is not balanced, making the club’s bid to conquer Europe all the more challenging.

The Parisians have spent considerable sums bringing world-class players such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Sergio Ramos into their fold but still needed more in-depth quality.

Pep Guardiola has been praised for his tactical genius in creating a monstrous Man City team, but he would only have achieved that by having quality players all around.

The Citizen’s bench is as good as their first team, as witnessed in the Champions League final when an injured Kevin De Bruyne was replaced by Phil Foden while Kyle Walker was as a subtitute.

With PSG, however, the first team seems to have much of the quality while the bench consists of average players who would only work if given the mantle to lead the team.

    2. Stick with a world-class manager

Paris Saint-Germain have witnessed at least seven people come and go as managers of the Ligue 1 giants since 2012 – when the club started the real push to win the Champions League.

Top-rated managers such as Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, and Mauricio Pochettino had brief reigns in the French capital but were let go after failing to win the European crown.

According to Goal, PSG’s latest manager, Christophe Galtier has also been shown the door after just one season at the helm, with the club now said to be on the lookout for a new manager.

Man City, meanwhile, has stuck with Guardiola for six seasons despite his previous failure to land the UCL trophy.

    3. Turn the fans into supporters

PSG has been plagued with too many distractions from their fanbase this season, with some players – chiefly Messi – getting booed by their supporters.

According to Marca, hundreds of fans showed up with megaphones, flares, and banners at the club headquarters, calling for the Argentine and Neymar to leave.

This has not been the case for past winners of the UEFA Champions League, where their fans have stuck with their respective teams through good and bad times.

With Man City, their fans have been there through the rough patches and supported their team, while the PSG fans always look for scapegoats whenever the team fails to perform.

    PSG dealt another transfer blow

Earlier, there were reports on PSG’s management plans suffering a blow after Zinédine Zidane reportedly turned down their offer to replace Galtier at the Parc des Princes.

It has been widely reported the former OGC Nice manager, who only arrived at the club last summer, has already been informed by management that he must now leave.

  • Thierry Henry declines PSG job offer, hurts ‘good buddy’ Mbappe

Thierry Henry declines PSG job offer, hurts ‘good buddy’ Mbappe

Thierry Henry has reportedly declined an offer to join Julian Nagelsmann’s coaching staff at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The former Arsenal legend had engaged in discussions with the PSG management regarding a potential role at the French club during the upcoming summer.

Henry, who has coaching experience with the Belgium national team and has previously managed Monaco and Montreal Impact, has decided against joining PSG at this time.

It is believed having the 45-year-old join the PSG coaching team would have been an effort to appease star striker, Kylian Mbappe, with whom he has a good relationship.

    Henry and Kylian’s childhood days

With Lionel Messi leaving upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the month and Neymar Junior also said to be on the move, keeping the French forward appears to be the Parisians’ main goal.

However, the idea of bringing in Henry to appease Mbappe appears to have fallen at the first hurdle, with Foot Mercato reporting the Gunners and Les Bleus legend is not keen on the role.

The French legend reportedly wants to stay in England, where his family currently lives, and is targeting a managerial role rather than a position as an assistant coach.

    Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe

Although Henry is apparently reluctant to join PSG, the club are understood to be pushing ahead with the appointment of Nagelsmann as their next manager, per Le Parisien.

    PSG shows Galtier the door

Christophe Galtier was only in charge for one season, but failure in the UEFA Champions League has once again cost a manager his job.

He was sacked on Tuesday just days after celebrating winning the Ligue 1 title, securing the French top flight prize for the ninth time in 11 seasons.

However, being knocked out of the UCL in the Round of 16 by Bayern Munich proved costly.

Nagelsmann was linked with the Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur jobs before the London clubs opted for Mauricio Pochettino and Ange Postecoglou respectively.

The 35-year-old German is known for an extremely intense and demanding coaching style, which has resulted in his departures from both Bayern and RB Leipzig.

    PSG future in the balance

Although Messi is leaving and Neymar could yet follow suit, Mbappe looks set to stay put this summer.

The French striker came close to joining Real Madrid last summer before backtracking and signing a bumper new deal, and he will be the undisputed star at the club next season – whoever the manager is.

    Henry reveals PSG’s problem

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Henry identifying the problem with PSG as the French giants rounded off a topsy-turvy campaign including elimination from the UCL.

The Parisians also suffered a shock exit from the Coupe de France and laboured in their league title defence, although they ultimately did lift the top flight prize.

Speaking on CBS Sports in March, after PSG exited the UCL, Henry stated there was a rift between the club and its supporters over what the club hoped to achieve.

Despite being one of the most renowned figures in football, Kylian Mbappe doesn’t hesitate to acknowledge the greatness of his contemporaries.

After Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-2 home loss to Clermont Foot on matchday 38, which coincided with their 11th Ligue 1 title win, the PSG players prepared to celebrate with their fans.

However, before joining the festivities, Mbappe took a moment to pay tribute to Lionel Messi, a player widely regarded as one of the finest of this generation.

This gesture highlights Mbappe’s respect and admiration for the Argentine superstar, recognizing his exceptional talent and contribution to the world of football.

The Frenchman spoke to a PSG TV camera while Messi was just across from him, and he started to fanboy a little bit over the 2022 World Cup winner.

“Lionel Messi, seven Ballon d’Ors, he’s there, he’s there,” Mbappe said.

    Messi confirms PSG departure

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi made the decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain, thanking the club, the city, and the supporters for the opportunity.

Inter Miami, Al Hilal, and ex-club Barcelona are three teams vying for his services, per Sport Bible.

It really is anyone’s guess where the tricky magician could go, but a large majority of the football world would love nothing more than to see him back at his boyhood club Barcelona.

As for Mbappe, it appears he will stay at PSG for another year as Real Madrid’s interest in the striker has waned, at least for this summer.

    PSG lose on Messi’s farewell

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Lionel Messi’s final game for Paris Saint-Germain ended in defeat on Saturday, while Monaco missed out on European qualification and Auxerre were relegated on the last night of the Ligue 1 season.

Messi’s expected departure from the French giants after two seasons was officially confirmed by PSG in a statement shortly before Saturday’s match against Clermont.

Yet Messi, who ends his PSG career with 32 goals in 75 appearances, was jeered by some fans during the match, which the champions lost 3-2.

With a 3-2 loss to Clermont being his final game at Parc des Princes, Messi was jeered by some sections of the home crowd both before and after the game.

Although it was anticipated that the Argentine would wait until mid-June to announce his next move, it may happen sooner.

Barcelona’s hopes of bringing him back the Camp Nou appear to be fading despite their previous confidence of securing a comeback deal.

Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal have made a two year contract offer to Messi’s representatives and the agreement could be completed within days.

As per reports from Diario AS, Al Hilal are prepared to announce Messi as their player on June 6, prior to the 35-year-old departing on a family holiday later this month.

Neymar expressed his sadness upon learning that his teammate Lionel Messi will be departing Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the end of the month, following their two-year stint together in the French capital.

Messi’s tenure at PSG has been met with disappointment by a portion of the club’s supporters, who have criticized and booed the 35-year-old forward for his inability to guide the team to Champions League glory.

As reported by Sportskeeda, Neymar disclosed that both he and Messi had given their best efforts to bring success to the Parisian club, but unfortunately, their expectations did not materialize. Neymar conveyed his best wishes to Messi for his future endeavors.

“Brother… it didn’t turn out as we thought but we tried everything. It was a pleasure to share 2 more years with you. Good luck in your new stage and be happy. I love you #leomessi”

Perhaps for the last time, Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr shared the same color.

Neymar and Messi along with Luis Suarez, forged one of the deadliest attacking partnerships in history with Barcelona when the trio guided the Spanish to numerous titles, including a treble in 2015.

Chelsea and Newcastle enter Messi’s bid

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs Chelsea and Newcastle are making a late play to sign Lionel Messi after Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the Argentine’s departure from the club, Football Transfers reports.

Barcelona, Inter Miami and Al Hilal have all been linked with a move for the 35-year-old forward with the Saudi club offering a whopping $400m deal to lure Messi to the Middle East.

Both EPL clubs are now banking on Messi’s desire to play competitive football in Europe and make a play for the superstar, hoping to convince him to move to England.

    PSG loses over 600k followers

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain have started to feel the effect of Lionel Messi’s departure from the club after the club’s social media pages witnessed a massive drop in followers.

PSG announced the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave the Ligue 1 champions before his final game against Clermont on Saturday, June 3rd, and the news had caused a reaction from fans.

Die-hard Messi fans unfollowed the Paris club on the social media app Instagram upon hearing the news of the Argentine’s departure.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) paid tribute to Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos as the club officially announced their impending departures at the end of the season.

Both Messi and Ramos, who joined PSG in the summer of 2021, were included in the team for PSG’s last game of the season against Clermont Foot, despite suffering a 3-2 defeat.

Despite the unexpected loss, PSG remained committed to honoring the iconic duo. Following the conclusion of their final match on Saturday, the club presented Messi and Ramos with plaques as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions during their time at the club.

This display of recognition showcased the respect and gratitude PSG holds for the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and the seasoned Spanish defender.

In photos making the rounds on the internet, seen by Sports Brief, Ramos and Messi flaunted their memorabilia given by the club in the dressing room as they said their final goodbyes to their soon-to-be ex-teammates.

While Ramos and Messi added to their trophy collection after joining PSG, the pair struggled to reach the expected target of guiding the club to European glory, per GOAL.

    Where next for Ramos, Messi?

According to Mirror, Ramos, a bona fide legend at Real Madrid, has been linked with a move back to Spain, while Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly keen to take him to the Middle East.

In a similar turn of events for the 2022 World Cup winner, Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have circled Messi with a big money move while La Liga champions FC Barcelona are also bent on bringing him back to Camp Nou.

In a related publication, Lionel Messi said goodbye to Paris Saint-Germain after the club confirmed that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will leave at the end of the season, Sports Brief reported.

PSG looking to secure transfer of Silva by making a substantial offer

PSG appears to be preparing for an eventful summer and has expressed a strong interest in acquiring Bernardo Silva as their latest high-profile signing.

Since joining Manchester City in 2017, the Portuguese midfielder has been a standout performer for the club.

However, reports suggest that the 28-year-old is eager for a new challenge after an unsuccessful attempt to leave last year.

Silva is expected to play a crucial role in Manchester City’s pursuit of victory in today’s FA Cup final against their rivals, Manchester United.

Ahead of the game, we explore what he would bring to the Ligue 1 champions.

Silva is reportedly a priority target for PSG.

Lionel Messi is leaving the French capital on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract and the Lisbon native could be seen as a potential replacement.

Earlier this season, Silva suggested that a move away from the Etihad could be on the cards.

He said: “The plan is to end the season well, win the Premier League, go against United in the FA Cup final, and then Inter [in the Champions League final].

“After that, in the summer, we will see what happens.

Silva has produced in key moments for City this season.

His tallies of seven goals and six assists across all competitions do not necessarily catch the eye but his contributions have been significant, including two strikes in the Champions League semi-finals.

He has proven incredibly tricky to contain in the Premier League, completing 28 dribbles and creating 31 chances while being fouled five times in the final third.

He could prove decisive once again at Wembley this afternoon.

Paris Saint-Germain look set for a busy summer and are keen to make Bernardo Silva their latest marquee signing.

The Portuguese midfielder has played a starring role at Manchester City since his arrival in 2017.

But the 28-year-old is reportedly keen on a move away following a failed exit last year.

He will likely be key to City’s chances of emerging victorious in this afternoon’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester United.

Messi’s camp unhappy about Xavi’s remarks about Leo’s return to Camp Nou

Reports indicate that, Lionel Messi’s camp has expressed dissatisfaction with comments made by FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández regarding Messi’s potential return to the Camp Nou.

Xavi had mentioned that the decision ultimately lies with Messi himself.

However, sources close to Messi have reportedly found this statement puzzling, as they believe the situation hinges on Barcelona obtaining approval from La Liga.

Xavi spoke with Messi after PSG defeat

The Catalans need to offload players and comply with the league’s financial constraints.

According to information in the media, the Paris Saint-Germain star has demanded that Barcelona put a formal contract on the table, which is something they cannot do at this stage.

The main stumbling block impeding a sensational return remains the club’s precarious finances – particularly their high wage bill.

In an attempt to lower this, Barcelona have said goodbye to veterans, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets this summer, just six months after veteran defender, Gerard Pique left the club.

Even with a lower wage bill, it remains doubtful that bringing Messi back to Barcelona is viable.

Meanwhile, rumours of a PSG stay have been sparked after the veteran featured in the club’s promotional video for their 2023-24 home kit.

    Messi’s transfer options

Messi reportedly has an offer on the table from Saudi Arabian side, Al-Hilal. Meanwhile, other information states that Inter Miami has presented a former proposal to bring the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner to South Florida.

Sports Brief had earlier reported that Messi’s father and agent, Jorge is sceptical about Messi returning to Barcelona in the summer.

The veteran’s representative is said to be anxious about the club’s offer and reportedly wants to confirm his son’s future as soon as possible.

Messi Senior is also said to be unsure about the Catalans’ financial viability plan and how they will stick to Financial Fair Play rules by La Liga.

There have been persistent rumors about Lionel Messi potentially leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after his two-year contract ends this summer.

However, on Wednesday morning, PSG released a video showcasing their new kit for the upcoming 2023/24 season, and Messi was prominently featured in the promotional material.

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s two-year contract with the French giants expires this summer.

According to a report by Goal, Messi currently poised to depart the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer after he was punished for taking a private trip to Saudi Arabia without his manager’s approval.

The Argentine maestro left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 amid the club’s financial difficulties, signing a two-year contract with PSG.

The 35-year-old has made 74 appearances for the French team, contributing to 32 goals and 34 assists while also winning the Ligue 1 in both of his seasons there.

    Which club could Messi join?

Throughout the World Cup in Qatar, Messi’s advisors were reportedly in negotiations to extend his contract, but the situation has since altered.

PSG saw the signing of the veteran as a triumph on and off the pitch, but some of the club’s supporters turned against the star after they were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

According to a reports by Marca, Barcelona have made explicit their intention to re-sign Messi this summer, and he remains convinced he can still compete at the best level in Europe.

However, it is unclear just how the Catalans will afford to bring him back to Camp Nou, with La Liga said to be skeptical about their current plans and how they will align with FFP regulations.

Messi has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS in America.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that PSG clinched a record 11th title in Ligue 1 as Lionel Messi scored in a 1-1 draw away at Strasbourg.

His opener was cancelled out by a Kevin Gameiro equaliser, yet the result gave the Parisians an unassailable lead over Lens in second.

  • Guardiola reaches out to ‘hot cake’ Neymar via phone call

Guardiola reaches out to ‘hot cake’ Neymar via phone call

Pep Guardiola has allegedly reached out to Neymar via a phone call, suggesting that the Brazilian superstar is increasingly inclined to depart from Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming season.

This conversation between Guardiola and Neymar comes shortly after news surfaced indicating that Manchester United could be among the clubs expressing interest in acquiring the winger’s services.

Neymar had an exceptional individual season in France before his involvement was hindered by an ankle injury, cutting short his further participation.

Neymar suffered ankle injury in 2023

PSG were then eliminated from the Champions League, provoking angry reactions from the club’s ultras, who have now demanded that Neymar and Lionel Messi leave the club.

While Messi will be a free agent, Neymar remains contracted until 2027 and it remains to be seen if the French side will want to cash in on him.

As L’Euipe reports, Guardiola checked in on the 31-year-old, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Manchester City will move in for him.

On paper, Manchester City are among the few clubs that can pay the astronomical wages of the former Barcelona man. The Mirror adds that Manchester United are also tempted by the possibility of bringing Neymar to Old Trafford.

How Guardiola could line up with Neymar

Despite his injury concerns, Neymar is a world-class player who would readily walk into any team.

Should Guardiola’s phone calls turn into a move to the Etihad, Sports Brief takes a look at how he would fit Guardiola’s plans. The Spanish manager has shown over the years that he is not afraid to tweak his system.

    1. As a left winger

This is the Brazilian’s position of strength. he has played a majority of his career from the left wing due to the lethal nature of his right foot. Jack Grealish has, however, made this position his own this season after initially struggling since joining from Aston Villa.

    2. As a secondary striker

Should Guardiola stick with Grealish on the left wing, Neymar could easily be moved into a secondary striker position.

It is the same position he adopted under Tite in the Brazil national team set up to allow for Vinicius Junior’s inclusion into the team.

Guardiola’s 3-2-4-1 formation would see him play alongside Kevin De Bruyne, just behind Erling Haaland and just in front of a double pivot midfield, usually of John Stones and Rodri, with Grealish and Bernardo Silva covering the flanks.

This could also solve the Ilkay Gundogan issue. The skipper is yet to agree a new deal with the club.

    3. As a number 10

This is highly unlikely given that Guardiola rarely uses the 4-2-3-1 formation to allow for the number 10 to play behind the striker. However, De Bruyne slightly dropping in deep could allow Neymar to play in between two wingers, just behind the main striker.

Guardiola could as easily come up with a different position for the talented forward. It would be exciting to see what he adds to the current Manchester City team should he join this summer.

    Neymar skips title celebrations

Sports Brief has also reported that Neymar elected not to travel to Strasbourg, where a solitary Lionel Messi goal secured a 1-1 draw for the Parisians and confirmed their second successive Ligue 1 title.

The Brazilian instead attended the showcase Formula 1 event in Monaco and was pictured alongside Hollywood superstars like Tom Holland, Orlando Bloom, and Michael Douglas – a decision that has not gone down well with the club.

Neymar’s absence from their title celebrations has reportedly been seen as an ‘act of provocation’ by the PSG hierarchy, as his exit this summer appears increasingly likely.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s sole goal secured a 1-1 draw, ultimately securing PSG’s second consecutive Ligue 1 title.

Neymar, who has been a crucial contributor to PSG’s success this season, with 13 goals and 11 assists, has been dealing with an injury since March when he twisted his ankle.

Despite being sidelined, the Brazilian forward made his presence felt at the prestigious Formula 1 event in Monaco, where he was photographed alongside Hollywood celebrities such as Tom Holland, Orlando Bloom, and Michael Douglas.

However, despite Christophe Galtier telling reporters the forward’s absence was due to mobility issues, French outlet, L’Equipe have claimed his decision has not gone down well with the club.

Neymar’s absence from their title celebrations has reportedly been seen as an ‘act of provocation’ by the PSG hierarchy, as his exit this summer appears increasingly likely.

The Brazilian has come in for staunch criticism this campaign, with more vocal supporters going as far as to verbally abuse the player outside his own home in France.

    Neymar’s absences fuel transfer rumours

Yet another absence from team activity has led to increasing reports of a potential move away from the club, with rumours indicating Neymar could join the Premier League.

PSG claim 11th title as Messi gives definite strike

Lionel Messi showcased his skills by scoring a crucial goal as Paris Saint-Germain clinched their record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 title, despite being held to a 1-1 draw against Strasbourg on Saturday.

In the midst of his impending departure from PSG as his contract expires, Messi made an impact by breaking the deadlock with his 16th goal of the season just before the hour mark at Stade de la Meinau.

However, Strasbourg substitute Kevin Gameiro denied PSG victory with a 79th-minute equalizer, preventing Christophe Galtier’s team from securing a win. Nevertheless, the single point earned proved sufficient for PSG to successfully defend their Ligue 1 title with a match to spare.

The draw also confirmed Strasbourg’s position in the top-flight, as Frederic Antonetti’s team maintained a six-point lead over 17th-placed Nantes, who failed to secure a victory against Lille.

PSG survived a scare in the 15th minute as Habib Diallo intercepted El Chadaille Bitshiabu’s sloppy pass back towards Gianluigi Donnarumma, but Sergio Ramos reacted quickly to clear the forward’s attempt from a tight angle.

Diallo drew a smart reflex save from Donnarumma, while Matz Sels produced a fine stop at the other end to keep out Renato Sanches’ volley from a Kylian Mbappe corner.

Strasbourg continued to carry the greater attacking threat and went close again when Diallo rattled the right post with a thumping 20-yard volley.

But PSG broke through 14 minutes into the second half when Messi arrived late in the box to collect Mbappe’s square ball before neatly sweeping into the far corner.

The duo almost reversed roles for a second goal soon after as Messi crossed for Mbappe, who failed to convert from inside the six-yard box.

Yet PSG were denied victory by former player Gameiro, who capitalised to snatch a draw 11 minutes from time after Donnarumma parried Morgan Sanson’s initial attempt.

  • Mbappe’s transfer decision puts PSG in a difficult position as Neymar’s feud resurfaces

Mbappe’s transfer decision puts PSG in a difficult position as Neymar’s feud resurfaces

Kylian Mbappe has allegedly decided not to go ahead with the one-year extension option in his current Paris Saint-Germain contract. As a result, he will become a free agent at the end of the upcoming summer.

Last May, the striker signed a new three-year contract with PSG, with the final year of the deal being subject to his decision for renewal.

Neymar says no competition between himself and Mbappe

He has long been linked with an exit from the Parc des Princes, with Real Madrid heavily referenced, despite penning that deal.

Mbappe previously refused to commit his future to PSG following suggestions of an exit.

“For now, a second World Cup,” the France international said in November, when quizzed over his alleged transfer request. “After that, I don’t know.”

It was not until March that he returned to the issue.

“I have just taken part in the viewing of the club’s renewal campaign for the 23/24 season.
At no time was I informed of the content of the interview with my interlocutor. It looked like a basic interview at a club marketing day. I disagree with this posted video.”

Also complicating the situation has also been the French striker’s reported feud with attacking teammate, Neymar Junior.

The superstars are said to have fallen out over the order of penalty-takers earlier this season in a Ligue 1 clash, with the Brazilian liking a series of posts which appeared to criticise and undermine the Frenchman.

L’Equipe reports the French star now has no desire of taking up his contract option through until 2025, meaning he will be out of contract next summer.

While tensions between him and the club are said to have calmed, Mbappe is keen on playing football elsewhere.

As outlined by L’Equipe earlier this month, Neymar’s Instagram account ‘liked’ a post which slammed his teammate, while his Twitter account meanwhile is said to have ‘liked’ a post suggesting he and Lionel Messi were happier when they played for Barcelona.

Last month, the striker criticised PSG’s season ticket renewal campaign which focused heavily on his input.

    Kylian Mbappe

It was the latest sign that there was an uncomfortable relationship between the two, with cracks starting to appear.

Taking to Instagram with a statement, Mbappe wrote:

“I have just taken part in the viewing of the club’s renewal campaign for the 23/24 season. At no time was I informed of the content of the interview with my interlocutor. It looked like a basic interview at a club marketing day. I disagree with this posted video.”

Mbappe added that was why he was fighting for individual image rights.

“PSG is a big club and a big family, but it is certainly not Kylian Saint-Germain.”

Despite the controversy surrounding him this season, Mbappe has still managed to shine on the pitch.

The 24-year-old has 40 goals to his name in all competitions and managed to break the club’s goal-scoring record, overtaking former Manchester United striker, Edinson Cavani in the process.

    Manchester City targets PSG midfielder

Earlier Sports Brief reported that Manchester City are monitoring a PSG midfielder with an intention for a summer swoop.

Marco Veratti, who has spent the best part of his career at the French capital, appears a likely replacement for Ilkay Gundogan.

It remains to be seen if this transfer will materialise or if the Italian will commit to a new contract at the French capital.

Marquinhos’ PSG deal extended till 2028

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) announced on Friday that their captain and Brazil defender, Marquinhos, has signed to extend his contract until 2028.

The Qatari-owned club expressed their delight in a statement, stating that the 29-year-old Brazilian defender will continue his journey with the Red and Blue until June 30, 2028.

Marquinhos joined PSG in 2013 at the age of 19, leaving Roma to become an integral part of the team.

Marquinhos ignores transfer talks, stays with PSG

He has since become indispensable to the club and was a key player in the PSG squad that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2020.

“I am very happy to announce this contract extension but also very proud,” said Marquinhos.

“This is a very special moment for me,” he added, saying he was “convinced that we will continue to achieve great things together in the years to come”.

With Lionel Messi on the point of leaving and speculation surrounding the futures of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, the decision of Marquinhos to throw his weight behind PSG has been welcomed by the club.

“This is already very good news for the club, for me as coach and for the fans,” said Christophe Galtier in a press conference.

“It is an example. He is finishing his 10th season. He is one of the best central defenders in the world, he has been omnipresent for 10 years. It’s a strong signal sent to everyone.”

  • Sadio Mane may land any of these club after steely Bayern axe

Sadio Mane may land any of these club after steely Bayern axe

Sadio Mane is expected to seek a transfer away from Bayern Munich this summer, with the former Liverpool forward not believed to have a future under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Mane, who swapped Liverpool for Bayern last summer, has failed to hit the right strings despite beginning his spell with the Bavarians on a bright note – scoring five goals in his first six outings.

His goals have since dried up while his overall form has significantly dipped, largely due to niggling injuries, with rumours linking him with a move away from the Allianz Arena, per GOAL.

With seven goals in the Bundesliga this season, Mane’s goal returns have dipped significantly and any interested party will now be aware of signing a player whose talents look to have diminished.

    Senegal star, Sadio Mane

However, with his valuable experience at the elite level, he could remain a useful option for clubs around the world.

A move away from the Allianz Arena is on the cards for Mane, and Sports Brief takes a look at the potential new clubs for the Senegal star ahead of the summer transfer window.

    Chelsea

Even if Chelsea have options in Mane‘s position, it would not be strange for a bid to sign the Senegalese forward to happen, considering Todd Boehly’s transfer approach thus far at Stamford Bridge.

The addition of Mane would increase competition for Raheem Sterling and Mykhaylo Mudryk, although departures are probably necessary before any transfer is made.

The Blues are leading the race for Mane, and they also need to continue the evolution of their squad. However, Boehly needs to learn from the mistakes he made by signing a waning Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the previous summer.

    Saudi Arabia

Mane has been linked to a number of elite European clubs, but the attacker may also be interested in Saudi Arabia, which is now paying high wages to attract top European players.

Lionel Messi is said to be attracting interest to Al-Hilal, where he could earn a staggering £320 million per year. Such astronomical figures might not be on the table for Mane, but he might look for a sizable payment so that he can keep supporting village initiatives in his hometown.

    Man United

According to reports in Germany, Mane’s most likely Premier League destination is Manchester United.

The ex-Liverpool superstar has found himself linked to the Old Trafford outfit following reports of discontent in Bavaria.

United boss Erik ten Hag is likely to bolster his frontline, and the club may pursue a player they came close to signing in 2016.

Mane has previously spoken about how close he came to a United move.

“I have to say, I was really close to going to Manchester United,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “I had the contract there. I had it all agreed. It was all ready, but instead, I thought, ‘No, I want to go to Liverpool.”

    PSG

Given that both Lionel Messi and Neymar are anticipated to leave the team this summer, PSG may be forced to look to Mane as an alternative to fill the vacuum.

Mane would be a good fit for this role because of his versatility in the middle of the field and his ability to connect up with Kylian Mbappe.

He might fall outside of their new transfer model, though, since the Parisian club is anticipated to have a new recruitment plan based around bringing in young French players.

    Mane told to join PSG

Sports Brief reported earlier that Sadio Mane has been urged to leave Bayern Munich after one season following the Senegalese forward recent struggles with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

The 31-year-old forward has endured a mixed start to life at Bayern, having been plagued with injuries and off-field controversies following his spat with teammate Leroy Sane.

According to PSG Talk, journalist Nabil Djelitt has advised Mane to move to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer to escape his nightmares in Germany.

  • Haaland’s Champions League final qualification alters Ballon d’Or rankings

Haaland’s Champions League final qualification alters Ballon d’Or rankings

It was projected that the 2023 Ballon d’Or was going to be a contentious event somewhere in March of this year, when Bayern Munich had eliminated Paris Saint-Germain from the UEFA Champions League.

There is no clear winner, unlike in 2022, and Lionel Messi’s World Cup victory makes everything more complicated.

If someone could win the Ballon d’Or after being eliminated from the Champions League so early, that was the debate that arose at the time.

Lionel Messi with a replica of the World Cup trophy on March 23, 2023. Photo by Luis Robayo.

Admittedly, the World Cup takes precedence over European’s elite competition.

Luka Modric rode on his highs with Croatia in 2018 to break the Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo duopoly, although the midfield veteran had won the Champions League as well that year.

Karim Benzema, Marcus Rashford, and Erling Haaland were backed as potential stars who could wrestle the title from Messi’s grasp.

Benz was in for his ability to inspire Real Madrid to a 15th Champions League title – a dream that has now ended with a sting after a 4-0 shellacking in Manchester on May 17.

Rashford, at that time, couldn’t stop scoring, but his case was made hard by the fact that he wasn’t competing in the Champions League or for the Premier League title.

And at the time, Haaland was down the pecking order, because it looked highly unlikely that Manchester City would close in on Arsenal and go within one win of defending the league again.

But how the tables have since turned! The City striker has undeniably narrowed the gap on Messi or even surpassed him, depending on how you see it.

    1. Lionel Messi

Messi’s early elimination from the Champions League notwithstanding, the Argentine delivered for his country in Qatar. He played a role in almost every game, bar their opening match against Saudi Arabia.

Apart from the World Cup, the 35-year-old has the Ligue 1 trophy in waiting, as well as the French Cup. If you combine his assists and goals, he almost matches Haaland’s astronomical numbers.

    2. Erling Haaland

Picture this, the Norwegian wins the Premier League (as early as this weekend), and then inspires his side against Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3, before rounding it off by winning the Champions League vs Inter Milan on June 10.

He then gets denied the Ballon d’Or – the question would be, what more could a man do?

Erling Haaland is set to receive his award at the FWA Footballer of the Year 75th anniversary dinner in London on May 25

Even if he misses two of the three trophies, his 50-plus goal tally in a league considered the toughest in the world will surely do him a lot of favours.

    Other possible Ballon d’Or winners

The other candidates won’t really offer much competition. Benzema and Vinicius Junior will only have the Copa Del Rey to show, with Robert Lewandowski currently outscoring them in Spain.

Rashford has hit a rough patch of form, and the only trophies he can realistically finish with are a domestic cup double.

Qatar 2022’s top scorer, Kylian Mbappe’s chances are dwarfed by Messi’s presence in the PSG team.

Also, preserve a thought for Julian Alvarez – he is in a position to win a unique quadruple, but won’t make the cut for the Ballon d’Or- not when he plays with the frontrunners in the same team and club.

Whichever way you look at it, it is a two-horse race, with the rest having to settle for places in the top 10.

The question the journalists who decide where the award goes will be answering in October is: which holds more water: the Champions League or the World Cup?

But first, Haaland must finish the job in Istanbul to put them in such a spot.

  • PSG’s form before and after Lionel Messi joined

PSG’s form before and after Lionel Messi joined

After spending two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi’s tenure at the French giants is drawing to a close.

The Argentine superstar is poised to secure his second Ligue 1 title before departing.

Following financial complications that led to his departure from Barcelona, Messi joined PSG in the summer of 2021 on a two-year contract.

His arrival in Paris was met with high expectations from the fans, as the club hoped his presence would propel them to their maiden UEFA Champions League victory.

Since joining PSG, Messi has amassed 31 goals and 34 assists in 72 appearances across all competitions.

Messi has 495 goals just like Ronaldo

Additionally, he recently clinched the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in December.

Here, Sports Brief analyses how PSG has fared since signing the veteran as a free agent in 2021.

    PSG and Messi in 2021/22

PSG have not necessarily been better with Messi in the team. The club’s supporters are turning on the Argentine superstar and calling for him to leave after protesting at PSG’s headquarters.

The superstar’s first season was hampered by a niggling knee injury and a bout of COVID-19. The Parisians averaged 2.12 points in Ligue 1 with the Argentine in the team.

In all competitions in the 2021/22 season, PSG played 34 matches with Messi and won 20 matches, lost 7 and drew 11, Ligue 1 reports.

They managed an average point tally of 2.03, despite scoring a total of 74 goals and conceding 36 while the Barcelona legend was present in the first team.

Without Messi, PSG had a better average point tally, amassing 2.53 points in the 15 games played without the Argentine. They scored 38 times and conceded just 12 goals.

    PSG and Messi in 2022/23

This season, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has only missed six games in Ligue 1 and nine in all competitions- and PSG have missed him when he hasn’t been around.

The Parisians have an average of 2.45 points per game with Messi, and 1.67 without him in the first team. They also average one more goal per game.

Messi has also scored 15 goals, created 15 assists in Ligue 1 alone, and was the club’s top scorer in the Champions League group stages. He scored six goals before they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Bayern Munich.

As can be seen above, PSG remains marginally better without Messi over the last two seasons, even if there has been a significant uptick in his performances. They average marginally more points and score slightly more.

    What’s next for Lionel Messi?

Messi remains a world-class player – perhaps the greatest ever – and he will continue to make good on the above numbers, but his time at PSG appears to be over.

According to Sky Sports, Messi will leave Parc des Princes at the end of the season, with the Ligue 1 club reportedly not planning to offer him a new contract.

Messi remains confident in his ability to play at the highest level in Europe, and Barcelona have made no secret of their desire to re-sign him this summer.

It remains to be seen whether they can afford to offer him a new contract, but at this point in his career, he is far more likely to stay in Europe than move to Inter Miami (or any other MLS club) or Saudi Arabia.

    PSG fans still boo Messi

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that PSG fans are showing no mercy for their superstar, Messi, as they insist the World Cup winner must go.

The Argentine veteran was booed again during his first game back after the two-week suspension, much to the delight of the crowd.

Messi was initially punished for an unsolicited trip to Saudi Arabia, which would have forced him to miss Saturday’s match against Ajaccio.

PSG eyes Man City star to replace Messi

Midfielder for Manchester City, Bernardo Silva, has been chosen by Paris Saint-Germain as Lionel Messi’s ideal successor and is already part of the French champions’ succession plan.

Messi joined the Parisians in 2021 after leaving Barcelona, and he has had two exciting seasons with the team.

However, when his contract ends at the end of the current season, he wants to depart.

Silva is ready to leave Manchester City this summer for a new challenge outside of England, and according to Barca Universal, PSG and Barcelona are prepared to compete for his signature.

    Bernado Silva

PSG believe they have the financial might to lure the Portuguese midfielder to the Parc des Princes Stadium this summer, unlike Barcelona, who have still not recovered fully from their financial crisis.

Silva has almost won everything during his time at Manchester City, except for the Champions League, which he stands a good chance of winning this season.

    Crystal Palace unhappy with PSG

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are said to be unhappy with the French giants over their pursuit of Anglo-French-Nigerian winger, Michael Olise, All Nigeria Soccer reports.

The English Premier League club believe that the Parisian’s interest in the forward may hinder their efforts to sign Olise to a new contract, which expires in 2026.

PSG director, Luis Campos is said to have contacted Olise’s representatives about the possibility of moving to Parc des Princes in the summer, as part of an overhaul of their current squad.

    Silva sends Real Madrid warning

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Manchester City will begin their revenge mission against Real Madrid when both teams meet again in the Champions League semi-final on May 9.

The Cityzens were minutes away from reaching a consecutive Champions League final last season, before they saw their hopes erased, with late goals from Rodrygo to force extra-time.

Bernardo Silva has now stated that Man City are confident they can defeat Real Madrid this term, as they are not afraid of the Spanish giants despite their impressive UCL resume.

  • Mbappe set to land heavy deal with PSG

Mbappe set to land heavy deal with PSG

There is still uncertainty surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain, as the team is expected to undergo significant changes for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Despite PSG’s lackluster campaign, the 24-year-old striker has been a standout performer and key asset to the reigning Ligue 1 champions who are on track to retain their title.

Sportskeeda reports that Real Madrid has expressed renewed interest in signing Mbappe and is willing to break the current world record transfer fee to secure the services of the 2022 World Cup Golden Boot winner.

Los Blancos are yet to reveal how much they are willing to pay but it has been confirmed the Spanish champions are willing to smash the €220million fee PSG paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.

Mbappe who has scored a total of 36 goals this season in all competitions, has two years remaining on his current deal with PSG.

Mbappe favourite to win Ligue 1 MVP

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is ranked as one of the favourites to be crowned as the 2022/23 Ligue 1 most valuable player, Goal reports.

The 24-year-old forward who won the accolade in the 2021/22 season, has scored a total of 24 goals this season for PSG in the league as the Parisians look set to retain their league crown.

Mbappe will however have to battle top stars like Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, current PSG teammate Lionel Messi and Lille forward Jonathan David for the prestigious gong.

Mbappe set to announce his PSG departure

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Paris Saint-Germain is set to face one of its toughest summers since the club was bought by Qatari Sports Investments in June 2011, following its not-too-successful 2022/23 campaign.

PSG is reportedly set to part ways with seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi at the end of the season after a fallout with the Argentine superstar, and Kylian Mbappe could be next to depart Parc des Princes.

Former football agent, Francois Gallardo revealed the French star is also nursing a desire to leave the Ligue 1 champions when the season ends.

  • Messi allegedly has three clubs to choose from if he finally decides to leave PSG

Messi allegedly has three clubs to choose from if he finally decides to leave PSG

Lionel Messi is set to depart from Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming summer transfer window, but his next destination is still uncertain.

Recent reports had indicated that the Argentine football star had signed a whopping £522 million deal with Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal, which would have pitted him against his old adversary Cristiano Ronaldo in the Middle East.

However, Messi’s father, Jorge, has refuted such rumors, stating that his son has not yet reached any agreement with any club.

We take a closer look at the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner’s situation.

    Goodbye Paris

The only thing that can be categorically ruled out at this stage is the prospect of Messi extending his stay in the French capital.

When the 2022 World Cup winner signed a two-year deal with PSG back in August 2021, expectations were high — and on the pitch, Messi has delivered.

His 20 goals and 19 assists across 37 appearances this term have been instrumental in putting Les Parisiens on the cusp of a second straight Ligue 1 title.

However, the French champions have once again failed in their pursuit of a maiden Champions League crown and recent fan anger has been directed towards the club’s highest earning stars.

A contract extension was therefore already looking bleak before last week’s unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia appeared to put a final nail in the coffin.

Though Messi has since apologised for the two-day visit and is back in training, the damage caused between player and club appears beyond repair.

    Money talks
Lionel Messi could join his old rival Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia
Lionel Messi could join his old rival Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia

Fittingly, Saudi Arabia is one of the destinations that has been touted for Messi next season.

Al-Hilal, the 18-time Pro League champions, are supposedly desperate to land the megastar and pit him against his old foe Ronaldo, who plays for their domestic rivals Al-Nassr.

Turning 36 in June, Messi may only have one big move left before hanging up his boots and the lucrative financial package on offer is sure to appeal.

Adding in the fact he has an ambassadorial role with the country’s tourist board, a move certainly makes sense — though the player’s father says talk of a pre-agreement is fabricated.

Posting on social media, Jorge Messi said: “There are always rumours and many use the name of Lionel to gain notoriety, but the truth is only one and we can assure that there is nothing agreed with anyone.”

    American dream

Many of the footballing world’s biggest stars choose to wind down their career in America’s MLS — and Inter Miami could be a perfect fit for Messi.

Part-owned by none other than David Beckham, the Florida-based outfit were only formed in 2018 and are still very much in their development phase as a club.

Last season’s sixth-placed finish was their best league performance to date and the club’s backers are keen to build on that success with a blockbuster signing.

MLS analyst Taylor Twellman claimed this week that Miami’s offer for Messi remains “on the table”, though the club accept they are not currently at the front of the queue.

    Emotional return

The ideal destination for Messi himself would likely be a return to his beloved Barcelona.

He remains the Catalan club’s all-time top scorer with a stunning 672 strikes across 21 glorious years, earning him God-like status among the club’s supporters.

It is widely acknowledged that Messi never wanted to exit the Camp Nou in the first place, only leaving due to the club’s horrendous financial situation.

Though he and Barca would undoubtedly love a return this summer, those issues still persist — making a reunion seemingly just a pipe dream.

While there remains even a slight chance, however, football romantics around the globe will be willing for the great man to return home.

  • Mourinho laughs over next PSG coach rumours

Mourinho laughs over next PSG coach rumours

Jose Mourinho, the manager of AS Roma, has addressed recent reports linking him to a potential move to Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming summer transfer window.

While PSG is on the verge of securing their 11th French league title under current coach Christophe Galtier, his position is reportedly in doubt following the team’s underwhelming exit from the Champions League in the round-of-16 stage, extending their wait for a coveted European trophy.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that Mourinho has been touted as the potential replacement for Galtier.

The veteran Portuguese tactician has been contacted by PSG’s top hierarchy owing to his superior man-management skill and ability to handle players with big egos.

Reacting to the reports, Jose, who is in the final year of his contract with Roma, appeared to laugh at the reports linking him to PSG.

“If they called, they didn’t find me, I’ve never spoken to them,” Mourinho told Sky Italia via GOAL.

Meanwhile, the 60-year-old is preparing his Roma side for their Europa League semi-final assignment against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday, May 11.

    Mourinho inspires AS Roma U19

Jose Mourinho showed a heartwarming gesture with the youth team of AS Roma by inspiring them to victory with a half-time talk on his day off.

Roma’s top-four hopes suffered a massive blow after their 2-0 loss to Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday, a game played with a depleted squad due to injuries.

The team were 1-0 down at half-time. The Special One gave an inspiring team talk to the young players at half-time, which spurred them to victory.

    PSG contact Mourinho

Sports Brief previously reported that Jose Mourinho is a proven winner and it is no surprise the veteran Portuguese manager is now on the radar of Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are desperate to win the UEFA Champions League and the club’s latest setback in the last-16 first-leg tie against Bayern Munich has got the French club looking for options.

PSG’s sporting director Luís Campos has contacted his fellow countryman and AS Roma head coach Mourinho as they look to replace Christophe Galtier.
