  • Kotoko beat Mahala Academy FC and Canaan FC in separate friendly matches

Ghana Premier League side, Asante Kotoko have decided not to remain idle even as the league campaign remains suspended.

The ongoing 2022/23 Ghanaian top-flight league has been on hold for the past couple of weeks due to a court injunction case filed against the Ghana FA by Ashanti Gold SC.

The Obuasi-based club is in court protesting the decision by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA to demote the team to the Division Two League over match-fixing claims.

While the league remains suspended, Asante Kotoko have been involved in a number of friendly matches.

Today, the Porcupine Warriors club played two similar matches. In games against Mahala Academy FC and Canaan FC, the Reds recorded 1-0 and 4-0 wins against the opponents respectively.

The Kumasi-based club will play another friendly match over the week as part of efforts to keep players fit during the period the league campaign will be suspended.

  • Asante Kotoko in talks with coach Prosper Ogum to reverse his decision

Asante Kotoko has refused to accept the shock resignation of coach  Dr.Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Ghanasoccernet.com understands the Porcupine Warriors’ management is in talks with Ogum to reverse his decision and continue to lead the club.

Kotoko supporters, who have been shocked by the news, are hoping that management can persuade Ogum not to leave.

Ogum, who won the Ghana Premier League with Kotoko last season, tendered his resignation on Wednesday afternoon after a meeting with the technical committee of the Board and Management.

In a sensational turn of events, Ogum has quit the job, barely three weeks before the start of the club’s pre-season activities kicks in.

Oyerepa FM’s Eugene Adu Poku is reporting that the Ghana Premier League winner has left his role at the club after a meeting with the top brass of the Ghanaian giants.

Details are sketchy but sources say the gaffer is unhappy with the club’s transfer activity ahead of next season and more crucially their involvement in the CAF Champions League.

The club has lost three key players- Mudasiru Salifu, Fabio Gama and Kwame Baah have all left the record Ghanaian champions.

The tension between the coach and the management team appears to have reached the apex – leading to the decision of the University professor to part ways with the African powerhouse.

The team is expected to start preparations for the upcoming season by participating in the Ghalca off-season competition- the G6 in Kumasi next month.

  • Kotoko outplays Etoile to keep CAF Champs League dream alive

The Porcupine Warriors unsettled their opponents with a goal just under one-minute courtesy Augustine Okrah, whose freekick went straight into the net after Kenyan import, George Abege, was fouled outside the 18-yard box.

Etoile’s goalie, Makrem Bediri, had no answer to saving the well-taken kick, and from this time to the 15th minute, the homers kept the Tunisian goal area boiling with incessant pressure.

Kotoko were awarded another free-kick in a dangerous position in the 10th minute, but it was wasted for a welcome goal kick to the visitors.

Etoile’s skipper and midfield anchor, Zied Boughattas, combining effectively with Ben Aziza and Hamza Lahmar, worked tirelessly to take control of proceedings, and when they did, the Tunisians were propelled in search of the equalizer.

Bulky striker Maher Hannachi squandered some decent chances that fell on his path as he failed to punish the homers for sloppy marking in the 22nd and 32nd minutes.

Kotoko came back strongly into the game in the last ten minutes to end the first session.

In one of their quick counter attacks in the 35th minute, slippery Okrah had his well-taken shot hit the cross-bar much to the relief of the visitors.

Etoile’s Hannachi was booked for a yellow card offence in the 39th minute as the visitors became frustrated with the incessant pressure from the homers’ attacking trio of Okrah, Abege and Richard Arthur.

Kotoko, right from the second half, kept their composure, initiating most of their attacks from the midfield and flanks, which the visitors found difficult to cope with.

In the 55th minute, Kotoko’s Arthur scored the second goal for the Porcupine Warriors, and this development seemed to have dampened the spirit of the Tunisians as Kotoko took advantage to take control of the game.

The homers brought on Burkinabe import, Sogne Yacouba, for Arthur in the 63rd minute with the intent to reinforce the attack and cause more problems for the visibly tired Tunisians.

In spite of this, the visitors would defend gallantly to end the game with two goals deficit as they host the Ghanaian giants in Tunisia in the second leg.
