Electrocuted fan at Black Sherif’s performance on campus recovering well – UMaT SRC

Ignatius Amoah, Chief of Staff of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) Student Representative Council (SRC), has confirmed that the individual affected by an electrocution incident during Black Sherif’s performance is recovering well.

Contrary to some reports, Amoah clarified that only one female fan was injured, not two as previously claimed.

The non-student victim was promptly taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

In an August 20, 2024 interview with Peace FM, Amoah mentioned that the SRC is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the electrocution.

He assured that measures are being taken to address and rectify any technical issues that contributed to the incident. The investigation is currently underway.

“It was one female fan who was electrocuted, but we took her to the hospital, and she is now recovering well. Our president has initiated measures to investigate the technical issues that led to the electrocution and resolve them. The probe is ongoing,” he told Kwasi Aboagye during the interview.

    Background

Black Sherif was seen leaving the event grounds at UMaT in Tarkwa, where he was scheduled to perform.

Reports indicated that poor planning and inadequate safety measures were to blame for the incident.

While on stage, Black Sherif witnessed two fans being electrocuted, with one in critical condition.

This prompted him to abruptly stop his performance and leave the venue in protest.

In a viral video, Black Sherif was seen heading straight to his car despite pleas from fans and organizers to continue his performance.

His departure left fans concerned, as they had waited six hours to see him perform.

However, the UMaT SRC has confirmed that the victim is now in stable condition.

My past mistakes have shaped me to be better – Kwame Sefa Kayi

Host of Peace FM‘s Kokrokoo Morning Show, Kwame Sefa Kayi recently reflected on his past actions, acknowledging that they have played a significant role in his personal growth and wisdom.

He admits that some actions he took in his youth are ones he would avoid today, having matured and learned from those experiences as an adult.

Despite this, the renowned broadcaster emphasizes that he does not regret his past actions, even those that didn’t turn out as expected. Instead, he views them as valuable lessons that have enriched his life.

During a conversation on Peace FM, Sefa Kayi shared how his past experiences, both good and bad, have shaped his current outlook and contributed to the reputation he enjoys today.

“I wouldn’t say I have significant regrets; rather, I see many opportunities for learning. I’ve made both right and wrong choices. Where things didn’t go as planned, there is some regret, but I view those instances as lessons learned. As you grow older, you gain wisdom.

“There are things I did in my teens, twenties, and thirties that I would not do now. It’s not because of deep regret, but because I have learned from those experiences. You learn to do things better based on what you have been through,” he said.

These reflections came as Sefa Kayi discussed his life lessons in celebration of his 54th birthday on June 20, 2024.

  • Mahama will one day rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM – Kwamena Duncan mocks

Mahama will one day rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM – Kwamena Duncan mocks

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwamena Duncan, has mocked Former President, John Dramani Mahama‘s proposal to rename schools when he wins the upcoming December 7 elections.

According to him, he will someday want to rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM as he  lacks comprehensive policies for the country.

Speaking on Peace FM Kwamena Duncan, questioned Mahama’s vision for Ghana, suggesting that renaming entities will not address the broader issues the country faces.

In contrast, he highlighted Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for his emphasis on policies with broader impacts, particularly in the areas of food, transportation, power, and energy.

He added that Bawumia’s approach, as outlined in recent speeches, appears to be focused on addressing critical sectors that affect the daily lives of Ghanaians.

“ Mahama said he will rename Peace FM to Asomdwee FM. Mahama has no plans for Ghana. Renaming is part of his policies. Bawumia identified which impacts generally, Food, transportation, power and energy while introducing his policies,” he added.

Mahama has recently announced his plan to reverse the names given by President Nana Akufo-Addo to certain public universities if he assumes power later this year.

Speaking to party supporters, chiefs, and students in Zuarungu, Upper East Region, the NDC flagbearer criticized the NPP government for renaming universities established by the NDC government after their own political figures. Mahama questioned the rationale behind renaming existing universities, especially when the NPP had not initiated the construction of any universities themselves.

Upon taking office, President Akufo-Addo initiated the renaming of several public universities. Notably, the Wa campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) became Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in the Upper West Region, and the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region. In 2018, the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) was renamed George Grant University of Mines and Technology.

Mahama has pledged to revert these name changes should he win the upcoming election.

He emphasized the importance of naming specific university facilities after individuals while highlighting that the overall names of public universities should align with their core purposes.

“We are going to rename the universities. Ghana has many heroes, and not only the heroes of the NPP tradition.

Mr Mahama added, “And so we will restore the original names, and the names that they have given them will be given to significant infrastructure in the universities.

“And we will add other people and name the infrastructure in the universities after them. But if the university is the University for Development Studies, that is its core mandate. It will be called the University for Development Studies.”

The flagbearer of the Butterfly Movement, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has faced an unexpected setback when he arrived at Despite Media, owners of Peace FM, for a scheduled appearance on the Monday morning show.

Despite believing he was set to be interviewed by Kwami Sefa Kayi, Alan Kyerematen found himself stranded at the media company’s forecourt as they denied any prior agreement for his appearance.

Contrary to Chief Alan’s understanding, Despite Media did not promote or announce his supposed appearance on the show through their social media platforms.

On air, Sefa Kayi revealed the failed plan, highlighting that there was no arrangement for Alan to be on the Kokrokoo show that morning.

Investigations uncovered that the flyer announcing his appearance was not authorized or produced by Despite Media but by Team Alan without the media company’s knowledge or consent.

The public now awaits Ernest Koranteng, an aide to Chief Alan, to provide clarity on the entire story.

Presidential staffer accuses Kwame Sefa Kaye of unfairness on his morning show

Presidential Staffer Dennis Miracle accused Peace FM’s morning show (Kokrokoo) host Kwame Sefa Kaye, popularly referred to as the ‘Chairman General’ , of being unfair to him during a discussion on the controversial lithium deal signed by the government.

This comes after the two were enveloped in a heated argument over the credibility of the said deal.

Miracle, who appeared unsatisfied with the airtime given him to give his submissions as against that of People’s National Convention (PNC) former secretary Atik Mohammed , went on to accuse Sefa Kaye of unfairness.

“Chairman, you’ve been unfair to me; you have to redraw.
    “I didn’t know today’s show was Atik’s show.”.

He said this while pleading for at least 5 minutes, which Sefa Kaye finally granted him about 2 minutes to wrap up his submissions.

    About the Lithium deal

Ghana’s lithium deal involves the government and Barari DV Ghana Ltd., a subsidiary of Atlantic Lithium Ltd., for lithium exploitation in the Ewoyaa area of the Central Region.

The controversial 15-year deal, beginning in 2024, faces opposition from the Minority in Parliament. They argue that it lacks prior parliamentary approval, offers unfavourable terms, and lacks transparency.

Concerns also include the credibility of Barari DV Ghana Ltd. and potential environmental and social impacts.

The government defends the deal, citing benefits such as a 10% royalty, 19% state participation, and plans for a refinery. The deal is set to be submitted to parliament in the first quarter of 2024 for ratification.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has extended its investigation into the activities and expenditure of the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM) by interrogating two additional individuals.

Horace Ekow Ewusi, the former 1st Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, and Seth Mantey, a journalist with Peace FM, were both arrested and questioned as part of the ongoing probe.

These interrogations followed the recent questioning of Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, the former Chairman of the IMCIM, by the Special Prosecutor. The IMCIM was tasked with addressing the issue of illegal mining in Ghana, and Prof. Frimpong-Boateng compiled a report that identified various individuals involved in illegal mining, including Ekow Ewusi and Mantey.

Popular voice over artiste and presenter Kwadwo Dickson who doubles as a former radio presenter at Peace FM has opened up on how he started his journey to Peace FM, why he left and where he is now.

According to Kwadwo Dickson, he left Kumasi for Accra with one T shirt, and one jeans trouser. That was after he had left Garden City Radio for a “better” station.

That landed him at Peace FM. His first day at work saw smart crew all working seriously at Post. He felt at home. He added that after some years he added voice over for jingles to his job. That influenced him to open up a small studio to make his own recordings.

“At times when you are done with News casting, on your way home you will have a call to come and work on maybe a breaking news”

This hindered the progress of his studio so he decided to bow out and rest small and continue later. That landed him at Angel Broadcasting Network. Where he is working now.

He opened up to Kofi Adoma Nwanwanii on his Kofi TV. Kwadwo Dickson was ready to welcome Kofi Adoma Nwanwanii who has also joined the Angel group.
