As an artiste, he is bigger – Paulina Oduro clarifies comments on Kofi Kinaata-TGMA nomination

Highlife icon Paulina Oduro has addressed recent claims that she said Kofi Kinaata is “bigger” than the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

During an interview on ShowBiz Today on Empire 102.7 FM, she clarified that her words had been misinterpreted. She urged bloggers and media outlets to report her statements accurately.

“Oh, Chaley! I think these bloggers should get their facts right,” she stated. “What I actually said was that it’s not a big deal.

“Kofi is loved all over Ghana; he’s a big artiste and should not be worried about whether he’s nominated or not.

“TGMA has been around for a long time; Kofi can never be bigger than that show. But as an artiste, he is big!”

The confusion started when Kofi Kinaata was unexpectedly not included in the Artiste of the Year category for the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), even though his Kofi oo Kofi EP earned him several nominations.

Fans were disappointed and expressed their frustration online. In an attempt to encourage Kinaata, Paulina Oduro’s words were misquoted by some blogs, sparking criticism.

She has now cleared the air, stating that while Kinaata is a highly respected artist, the TGMA remains a significant platform in Ghana’s music industry. She hopes this clarification will settle the issue.

Kofi Kinaata’s talent remains unmatched despite TGMA snub – Paulina Oduro

Renowned Ghanaian Highlife musician and actress Paulina Oduro has weighed in on the disappointment expressed by fans over Kofi Kinaata’s exclusion from the Artiste of the Year category at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

In an interview with Joy Prime on March 26, 2025, Paulina Oduro emphasized that the Susuka hitmaker’s unmatched talent and impact on the music industry far outweigh the validation of an award scheme.

“Kofi Kinaata is bigger than that, and we know who he is. He is cute, handsome, and, most importantly, he can sing and rap exceptionally well, so he doesn’t need an award to prove his worth,” she stated.

Paulina Oduro further praised the musician for his dedication and influence, particularly in elevating the image of Takoradi and the Western Region in the music industry.

“Kofi Kinaata is my passion because he comes from where I am from. From where he started to where he is now, I am extremely proud of him. He has placed the Western Region and Takoradi on the map like no one else has. This young man has done it all on his own, and to me, he is like a son,” she added.

Despite the TGMA snub, Paulina Oduro maintained that Kinaata’s artistry remains undisputed, urging his fans to focus on celebrating his contribution to music rather than awards.
