  • You can’t prioritize your party over your country if you want to lead – Dr. Kofi Amoah criticizes Kennedy Agyapong

Ghanaian economist and businessman Dr. Kofi Amoah has rebuked former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong for prioritizing party loyalty over national interests.

Despite criticizing the government and his party’s shortcomings, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central joined party leadership in Kumasi on Tuesday for the unveiling of the party’s running mate for the 2024 general election, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Addressing party supporters, Kennedy Agyapong underscored his commitment to supporting the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, highlighting his allegiance to the NPP.

“Some people were upset with me during my recent visit to Kumasi. I want to remind my supporters that loyalty to the party supersedes personal sentiments. As long as I remain in the NPP, I will actively participate in the party’s activities. If you want to be a leader, you must first be a servant of the people,” the MP wrote in a later post on X.

In response to Kennedy Agyapong’s statement, Dr. Amoah asserted that anyone who places the interests of their political party above those of their country has no claim to leadership.

“Anyone who puts a political party over the country cannot lead the people out of their sufferings, especially if those sufferings have been imposed by that particular party. Allegiance must be to the country and to the people, not to a party,” he said.

“Folks, advise yourselves. You cannot be taken advantage of forever,” he stated.

Four killed and seven injured by masked gunmen at outdoor party in California – police say

A bunch of men in masks got out of a car and started shooting at a party in central California. They ended up killing four people and injured seven others before driving away, the police said on Monday.

The police went to a shooting at about 6 p.m that was reported. On Sunday in King City, the police found three men who had been shot and were dead in a front yard, according to a statement from the King City Police Department.

A woman died after someone brought her to Mee Memorial Hospital in King City, which is about 106 miles south of San Jose.

The police first said three hurt men went to Natividad Hospital in Salinas, but later they found out four more adults were also shot. They were brought to the hospital eventually.

Two people were very badly hurt and the five others were hurt but not in a life-threatening way, according to the police.

Many people were at a party outside a house when three men with dark masks and clothes came out of a silver Kia and shot at the group. The people who may have done it ran away in a car and nobody knows who they are yet.

The police are still investigating the case. The city promised to give $20,000 to anyone who helps solve the case.

Mayor Mike LeBarre said the killings are really sad for the town of about 14,000 people.

“We are very sad and we feel deeply sorry for the family and friends of the people who were killed in this violent act,” LeBarre said in a statement. “I want to let the community know that we are doing everything we can to catch the criminals and make sure they are punished. We will also keep working to stop violence from happening in the future. ”

The shooting happened on a street with a few simple houses facing an area with stores and businesses.

King City is in the southern part of Salinas Valley, which is surrounded by farms and is on the inland side of the mountains near the coast. The United States The Army’s Fort Hunter Liggett training center is spread out nearby. The city is a starting point for people to visit Pinnacles National Park.

  • Zuma suspended by African National Congress after creation of new party

Zuma suspended by African National Congress after creation of new party

The ANC, the political party that Jacob Zuma was once in charge of, has stopped him from being a part of the party because he didn’t support them and started his own party.

The ANC made a decision on Monday.

Mr Zuma has a new party called uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), which means “spear of the nation”. This party has the same name as the ANC’s old armed group that he used to be a part of.

He was president for nine years, from 2009 to 2018, and had a lot of problems with scandals and accusations of corruption.

The investigation found that the ex-president put his corrupt friends before his own country in a scheme called “state capture. ”

He is accused of being involved in a corrupt weapons deal from 1999. He says he didn’t do anything wrong in any situation.

In 2018, Cyril Ramaphosa became South Africa’s new President and said he would make the government better. He is now guiding a struggling ANC into this year’s national election.

    Save mission

During the launch of MK in December, a statement was read on behalf of Mr Zuma. The statement said that he will always be a member of the ANC, but he won’t vote for it. He also said that some of the leaders of the ANC are not behaving in the way that the ANC should and now he wants to “rescue” the “once-great movement”.

Mr Zuma has said mean things about the person who took over his job, Mr Ramaphosa.

The BBC’s Daniel de Simone in Johannesburg says a lot of South Africans think that Mr Zuma symbolizes the problems of the recent past and has made the ANC look bad.

However, he has the support of a large number of people. Many South Africans got very angry and broke things when he went to jail in 2021. A survey showed that almost one out of every three South Africans like him.

It is still not certain if people will support his new MK party in the election, but it may take votes away from the ANC.

The ANC started fighting against apartheid and has been in charge of South Africa since the end of white-minority rule.

Mr Zuma, 81, had always been a member of the ANC.

At 17 years old, he joined the ANC without going to school. He moved up in the ANC’s military and intelligence groups. He also held important positions in Kwa-Zulu Natal and eventually became the deputy president and then the president.

Many people think this year’s election is the most competitive since the ANC became the ruling party in 1994.

  • Opposition leader in Zimbabwe leaves ‘contaminated’ party

Opposition leader in Zimbabwe leaves ‘contaminated’ party

Zimbabwe’s opposition leader Nelson Chamisa has quit, saying his party has been taken over by the government and it’s not good anymore.

“I don’t want to be involved in dirty politics,” he said in a statement that was 13 pages long on Thursday.

He got 44% of the votes in the presidential election last year. Some people said there was cheating.

However, some members of his party, CCC, lost their jobs because of sabotage, according to Mr.

Mr Chamisa, a 45-year-old, is a Christian pastor and lawyer. He is going to start a new political party.

It’s not certain how many of the CCC’s MPs and councillors will go with him.

Although he has a lot of support, especially in cities, some people who don’t like Mr Chamisa say he is not a good leader and this has caused problems in the opposition. This has made it easier for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stay in control.

In his letter, he said the CCC had been “hurt”, accusing the ruling Zanu-PF party of being responsible – allegations it denied.

“He said that the original CCC idea has been changed and taken over by ZANU PF using government institutions in a bad way. ”

In the statement, the old leader of CCC said it was President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s fault for many problems in Zimbabwe, like bad hospitals, cholera and social services breaking down.

He said that many people in his group were paid to work against it.

In reference to President Mnangagwa’s nickname, Mr. Chamisa said he didn’t want to take any risks.

In 2017, President Mnangagwa took over as the leader after a peaceful takeover that removed Robert Mugabe, who had been in power for a long time.

He was seen as a symbol of hope and change for the struggling country.

However, there are still a lot of problems in Zimbabwe, such as high prices, not enough jobs, and limits on freedom of speech.

Mr Chamisa has been involved in opposing politics for more than twenty years.

He says that he has been in danger and had to escape an attempt on his life in 2022 when his group was attacked during an election. He was hurt badly in 2007 when the government tried to stop the opposition. His skull was cracked.

Before, he was in charge of a different group called the MDC. He left that group because there was a fight for control. Then, in 2022, he started his own group called the CCC.

  •  “All White/All Black Attire Party” at Adentan on Jan. 1 hits a snug

“All White/All Black Attire Party” at Adentan on Jan. 1 hits a snug

An Adentan Circuit Court has issued a restraining order against three individuals—Francis Ayenu, Dennis Tawiah, and Michael Ayenu—preventing them from organizing an “All-white or All Black attire party” scheduled for January 1, 2024.

The court’s decision came in response to concerns raised by the police, seeking to prevent potential clashes and disturbances of peace in Adenta, Accra.

The court said: “In the interest of upholding and ensuring public peace and order, and in the interest of protecting lives and property, the respondents, Francis Ayenu, Dennis Tawiah and Michael Ayenu; their agents, assigns, workmen, servants and any other person or group claiming through or under them are hereby restrained and or prohibited from organising, holding, carrying-on, executing, throwing or proceeding with the planned “All white/ All black” event/ party or other event name of description they may give it, and as planned for the 1st day of January 2024.”

The Adentan Circuit Court issued a restraining/prohibition order, directing the owners and operators of any event center, location, or premises associated with the planned “All-white or All Black attire party” to cooperate with the Ghana Police Service in executing the order. The directive was part of the court’s response to an ex-parte motion filed by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo of the Ghana Police Service on December 29, 2023.

The police received intelligence on December 19, 2023, indicating that two factions, led by Francis Ayenu on one side and Dennis Tawiah with Michael Ayenu on the other, were planning events titled “All Black Attire wear or All White attire” on December 28, 2023, and January 1, 2024. The police reported that Francis Ayenu filed an injunction against the other partners in the Adenta High Court to prevent them from organizing any event on the specified dates.

The Police said, however, “even though the processes had been served on the defendant, they went ahead to hold the event on December 28, 2023, in flagrant disregard to the powers and authority of the High Court, Adenta and they are again planning to hold the second event on January 1, 2024, despite the pending injunction.”

It said Police intelligence revealed that Francis Ayenu and his group were also planning to organise the same event at the same venue on January 1, 2024, and use “land guards” to disrupt the event of Dennis Tawiah and Michael Ayenu.

The Police argued that “if the planned action is executed, there would be a total breach of peace”.

The Police, therefore, prayed the court to restrain Francis Ayenu and Dennis Tawiah together with Michael Ayenu and their agents as well as any other person associated with the organisers of the event from carrying out the planned event on January 1, 2024.

  • I feel sorry for Alan, he has taken the worst decision – Kwamena Bartels

Former Interior Minister Kwamena Bartels has called Alan Kyerematen’s decision to quit from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) his worst political decision.

Mr Bartels pushed the NPP leadership to “beautifully accept” Mr Kyerematen’s resignation and utterly expel him from the party in a candid interview with Citi News’ Hanson Agyemang.

“I felt sorry for him [Alan], he has taken the worst decision he can ever take in his political life. He is finished as a politician. This is the end for him as a politician,” Bartels said.

When questioned if he thought Mr Kyerematen had been unfairly handled, the former Ablekuma North MP said,

“I won’t judge, but there are processes in the party for dealing with unfair treatment and every human institution has these little skirmishes and when they come, they are judged according to the laid down processes.”

Mr Bartels urged the NPP not to try to repair relations with the former Trade and Industry Minister because this is not the first time he has left the party.

“It has happened twice and we won’t allow it to happen thrice and if the party has my views, it should beautifully accept it,” he said.

Mr. Kyerematen resigned from the NPP on Monday, September 25, to run for president as an independent.

  • IGP’s reputation shouldn’t be diminished over a mere audio – Nana Yaa Jantuah

IGP’s reputation shouldn’t be diminished over a mere audio – Nana Yaa Jantuah

The General Secretary of the Conventions Peoples Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has voiced her disapproval regarding the ongoing parliamentary committee hearings aimed at probing allegations stemming from a leaked tape.

She believes that these proceedings have unnecessarily placed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in a vulnerable position.

The ad-hoc committee investigating the leaked tape had invited the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for a public hearing on September 12 and an in-camera hearing on September 13, 2023, to respond to the allegations made against him.

Nana Yaa Jantuah’s viewpoint is that the IGP of the country should not have been subjected to a public hearing based on what she describes as a flimsy tape.

“To me, you do not be a man this low. The IGP of a country, you don’t bring him this low. You don’t put the IGP in public like this.

“Unless the person is out of office, commits murder or is engaged in any corruption, not on a flimsy tape,” she said.

She emphasized that the IGP should not have been brought down to this level, unless he had left office, committed a serious offense like murder, or was involved in corruption.

“What is in the conclave of the police service, we don’t know. All we know and care about is the fact that we have an IGP who is working.

“So, if we allow the IGP to come into the public to say, ‘I am pained’ do you think an armed robber will respect him?” she quizzed.

She argued that exposing the IGP to such a public hearing could negatively affect his ability to command respect, particularly in law enforcement situations.

She questioned whether an armed robber would respect the IGP after such a public ordeal.

Nana Yaa Jantuah also highlighted the importance of not publicly debating the internal workings and deliberations within the police service. She believes that the focus should be on more critical issues, such as improving the electoral process and ensuring that people can vote easily, rather than giving undue attention to a recorded conversation among individuals.

In summary, Nana Yaa Jantuah is critical of the public hearing involving the IGP based on a leaked tape, emphasizing that it could harm his reputation and affect his effectiveness in law enforcement.

She suggested that more important matters should be the focus of parliamentary committees.

“Some individuals met somewhere to have their conversation and one person among them decided to record. If the person decided to record, why then do you give credence to it such that there is a whole parliamentary committee? When the Electoral Commission is unable to register people to vote.

“There is no parliamentary committee that is set up to investigate and find out how people will even get to their locations. Also, to find out how we can set up electoral areas to allow people to vote effortlessly,” she argued.

  • Opposition in Zimbabwe demands widespread protests after a dubious election

Opposition in Zimbabwe demands widespread protests after a dubious election

On Friday, Zimbabwe’s primary opposition party, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), issued a call for nationwide protests and demanded a rerun of elections, asserting that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had secured a second term in office through fraudulent means.

This appeal from the CCC came just one day after President Mnangagwa declared the election to be valid and cautioned that there would be a crackdown on individuals inciting disorder.

“I warn anybody who may want to bring any chaos in this country we are ready,” he said during a ceremony to open a lithium plant. “Whoever shall preach hate speech will be responsible for their hate speech, our prisons are not full.”

The electoral commission, in a statement issued late on Saturday, announced that President Mnangagwa had garnered approximately 53% of the vote, placing CCC leader Nelson Chamisa in second position with 44%. Mnangagwa’s ruling ZANU-PF party was declared the victor of the parliamentary election but fell slightly short of the two-thirds majority required to amend the constitution.

The credibility of these elections has been scrutinized by analysts, as they were marred by the arrest of vote monitors. In contrast, ZANU-PF has asserted that there were no irregularities, with President Mnangagwa urging those with grievances to seek legal redress through the courts.

  • Ghanaians now know NDC cannot conduct free, fair elections – Dr Duffuor

Ghanaians now know NDC cannot conduct free, fair elections – Dr Duffuor

Former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not prepared to hold free and fair primaries election on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday evening, Dr Duffuor stated that although the party had promised to address his concerns and the discrepancies with the voters register at a meeting with the Council of Elders, they are yet to do so.

He stated that the party leadership had promised to involve the technical team of all candidates in the flagbearership race to address the issues after he withdrew the suit filed against it.

However, Dr Duffuor noted that “Despite the assurances given to myself and my team by the Chairman of the Party, the executives of the party, in an act of complete and unacceptable breach of faith, went ahead to convene a press conference announcing that the elections would go ahead tomorrow, without having resolved the concerns surrounding the voters register as decided at the meeting of the Council of Elders.”

He said that the party has begun distributing the ballot papers to the various regions and constituencies without his team’s involvement ahead of the elections on Saturday.

This, he stated, contributed to his decision to withdraw from the elections, adding that he cannot compete when the party’s election preparations concerning the register is saddled with flaws.

“My concerns that the party is not ready to conduct a free and fair election is evident for all to see. Taking part in such would be akin to knowingly drinking from a poisoned calabash. I cannot contest in an election which is blatantly fraught with irregularities regardless of all my efforts to draw attention to same.”

Dr Duffour thanked his supporters assuring them that despite his decision he will continue to connect with the grassroots for the betterment of the party.

The former Finance Minister formally withdrew from the National Democratic Congress’ upcoming flagbearership contest on May 12.

His decision came after he withdrew the suit against the party filed on May 9, following what he says are some discrepancies his team has identified in the party’s voters’ register to be used for the exercise.

Subsequently, an Accra High Court, on Monday, struck out Dr Duffour’s injunction after his lawyers withdrew the case.

Adwoa Safo smokes peace pipe with Chief of Staff

Member of Parliament for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, Adwoa Safo, has stated that despite the hardships and obstacles that the party is facing, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains focused on the country’s prosperity and growth.

According to her, the party will not fail its members despite these challenges.

    In a Facebook post where she shared a picture of herself and the chief of Staff, Frema Opare she captioned;

“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is all we have and it remains the sole platform and vehicle through which the Prosperity and Development of our dear Country Ghana will be realised.”

  • Big English and suits don’t make a president – Ken Agyapong

Big English and suits don’t make a president – Ken Agyapong

A prospective presidential contender for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has criticized those who think he is unqualified to represent the party in the 2024 elections.

The vociferous Assin Central Member of Parliament said his critics say he is not “presidential material” because he does not speak impeccable English like some of his contenders.

According to him, the youth needs a candidate who will provide them with jobs and alleviate their sufferings and not a candidate who is only interested in wearing expensive suits and always speaking the Queen’s English.

Kennedy Agyapong also said it seems his opponents want to undermine all the sacrifices he had made for the NPP over the years.

“Who in the party has worked more than me? I have made lots of sacrifices for the party by using my money to fund party activities. Today they are saying I’m not presidential material. What is presidential material? Is presidential material someone who can speak good English, wears suits and does not care about the welfare of the youth?”

“Between someone who says good to see you and the other who encourages you to get up to go to work, which one of them is presidential material? We want jobs, we are not joking at all. We are tired of listening to big English all the time,” he asserted.

Mr. Ohene Agyapong called on the delegates to make a wise choice by electing a formidable candidate who can lead the party to help the party win the 2024 general elections.

“My advice goes to all the delegates to try and make the right choice in the election of a presidential candidate for the party. You will bear the brunt if you make wrong choices that will send the party into opposition. Make no mistake during the primaries to elect just any candidate. I will use the little money I have for myself till I die and not spend on party members anymore,” the MP said.

The outspoken lawmaker said this when he addressed NPP delegates in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

  • NDC must rebuild the party’s honor and credibility – Inusah Fuseni

NDC must rebuild the party’s honor and credibility – Inusah Fuseni

A former representative for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has characterized the NDC’s stance on the endorsement of ministerial nominees as perilous to the party’s integrity.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show, Mr. Fuseini said he expects the leadership of the party to take an entrenched position on the way forward to restore dignity and trust in the NDC.

The NDC had asked the Minority MPs to reject the nominees, but the order was defied by some NDC MPs who voted along with the Majority side of the House to approve six Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

This has led to members of the party accusing the Parliamentarians who voted for the approval as betraying the party and Ghanaians who felt the need for the government to downsize due to the current economic challenges.

Mr Fuseini said this position should not be swept under the carpet.

Meeting me in person will cost you N1 million’ – Jaruma to customers

A well-known entrepreneur in the the sale of aphrodisiacs, Hauwa Saidu Mohammed, alias Jaruma, has revealed that she bills N1 million for an in-person appointment and N250,000 for phone call meetings.

She made this known on the 5th episode of Showmax’s ‘The Real Housewives of Abuja’, where she stated that the women were privileged to have her seated with them as she barely attends events when she is not paid.

She said: “Yes it is a privilege. How much is it? Talking to Jaruma on the phone is N250,000. Seeing Jaruma face to face is 1 million naira. Who are these peasants?”

At Tutupie’s lingerie party in the third episode, her remark sparked a fight between the sex therapist and Princess Jecoco, which ultimately resulted in Jaruma abandoning the event and leaving her assistant to conduct the sex therapy session.

  • Kwabena Agyepong ends tour of diaspora chapters; seeks to rejuvenate party grassroots

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer hopeful, has ended his tour of the diaspora chapters of the Party reiterating his desire to rejuvenate the Party’s grassroots.

“The grassroot is the livewire of the Party and that’s my focus. I want to cure the disconnect. The Party and government belong to them and they must own and feel part of it.

“My mission is to rejuvenate our political base and inspire hope in the youth of our country,” he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the tour.

He said the Party’s victory at the polls should be a victory for the grassroots and not a select few and said it was time for a “new dawn” where everybody was brought on board in governance for the good of the NPP and the country.

Mr Agyepong said he was working to unite the Party and use the Jehovah Witness’ soul winning strategy to canvas for vote for the NPP in the 2024 general election.

“It is time to do things right. We’ve come very far. Let’s redefine our grassroots. Let’s bring them onboard and they must be onboard during the campaign time, election time and part of governance. The time of use and dump is gone. No more should our people be abandoned at the rendezvous of victory,” he stressed.

Mr Agyepong said he was offering himself to lead the NPP to bring transformation to all sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

“For me, it is not about becoming a President, but the transformation of our dear Nation. Where we are as a country needs a new thinking, new ideas and new direction. In fact, our very understanding of party politics and public service must be looked at again,” he said.

Mr Agyepong said Ghana needed a “compassionate and selfless” leader and that he was that nation builder ready to work with the masses to provide a “new dawn” and transform the country.

  • There won’t be a miscarriage of justice – NPP on Freddie Blay’s role in Aisha Huang trial

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is of the view that justice will be served in the matter involving the state versus Aisha Huang and four others in a case involving illegal small-scale mining activities.

This according to the party is despite the fact that lawyers affiliated with it are representing the accused persons.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy FM, the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah maintained that the court will at all times deal with evidence put before it by parties to the case.

He contended further that it was within the right of an accused person to get legal representation in court and consequently it was also right for the NPP-affiliated lawyers to render professional services to such persons.

“If it is a matter of conscience then we should say that there shouldn’t be legal representation for criminals or for somebody who has killed somebody or is alleged to have killed somebody. As conscience will dictate, we should all abhor such behavior and therefore no lawyer as matter of conscience should want to defend any such act

“I don’t think there will be any miscarriage of justice because the lawyers in the case are NPP related or have affiliations with the New Patriotic Party. The idea is that every client deserves a representation.

“Our laws allows for that, so the client have exercised their right to have legal representation and those happens to be people affiliated with the NPP. I don’t think that necessarily changes the rules of the court which is evidence,” Ahiagbah said.

It emerged that former NPP Chairman, Freddie Blay, is the main lawyer for Aisha Huang’s accomplices namely Gao Jin Cheng, Lu Qi Jun, Haibin Go and Zhang Zhipeng, in the prosecution.

Aisha Huang together with her four other accomplices made a court appearance yesterday October 11 for the state to continue with their prosecution.

Private attorney Lucy Ekeleba Blay said in court that she was holding brief for Freddie Blay in the case of the four accomplices. Another NPP affiliated lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Darteh is representing Aisha Huang.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Godfred Dame has indicated his readiness to fast-track the prosecution of Aisha Huang for her past and previous crimes.

Ms. Huang and her accomplices have been remanded into custody until November 24, 2022 following the judge’s refusal to grant them bail.

  • Our election 2024 fortunes are brighter – NDC aspirant

The political fortunes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) look brighter in the Election 2024, Mr Yussif Dramani, the Sunyani East Constituency executive member of the party, has said.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Dramani said though the chances of the NDC regaining political power remained high, it would not be an easy battle.

He, therefore, asked the members and supporters to intensify campaigns for victory.

He said the Party needed loyal and committed members to reach out to and propagate the proven track records and achievements of the NDC to persuade the voting population at the grassroots.

Mr Dramani, now vying for the Deputy Constituency Organiser position in the Party’s impending branch elections, said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had failed Ghanaians and was unable to fulfil the majority of its 2020 election promises.

This, he added, had provided an opportunity for the NDC to take advantage to intensify its campaign to make Ghanaians understand that “it is only the NDC that can alleviate their plight.”

Mr Dramani said: “We need a vibrant youth to lead the Party in the constituency not only to capture that seat from the NPP but also widen the presidential votes in the next general election.”

He appealed to supporters to contribute their quota to help rebuild and strengthen the Party to recapture power from the NPP to better the lives of the ordinary people.
