Starbucks is going to the highest court in America to fight a union.
The highest court will listen to the coffee company’s case about having to hire back workers they fired in 2021.
Starbucks said the US labor officials’ case wasn’t good enough to justify the order they were asking for.
The way the fight is settled will have a big impact on the type of help US workers can get in work disagreements.
In this situation, the National Labor Relations Board asked for and got a special court order that made the company hire back seven workers at a store in Memphis. The company had treated the workers unfairly for being in a union, and the court said they had to hire them back.
Starbucks said that the employees who invited a news crew into a store to talk about their cause were fired for breaking company rules, like going into the store off-duty.
It challenged the emergency order, called an injunction, and the lower court agreed with it.
Supporters of the temporary orders believe they are important to deal with the problems that happen while trying to solve labor disagreements that can take a long time.
But Starbucks has won in other cases where judges had stricter rules for regulators. This shows that some judges disagree, and Starbucks wants the Supreme Court to make a final decision.
Big business groups, like the US Chamber of Commerce, are supporting Starbucks by filing legal papers.
There are more workers organizing in the US lately, and it’s causing problems for companies like Amazon, Apple, and car-makers.
Since 2021, workers at over 370 Starbucks stores in the US have decided to form a union.
The people in charge of Starbucks Workers United have made many complaints saying that Starbucks is breaking the law in order to stop the workers from organizing. Often, labor officials have looked into those claims and found them to be true.
Starbucks Workers United said that the company is trying to get rid of an important tool the National Labor Relations Board uses to hold corporations responsible for breaking the law.
The Supreme Court will consider the Memphis case, and Starbucks is now fighting against all US workers, not just its own employees.
Starbucks, which runs over 10,000 stores in the US, says it did not break work laws.
The company said it was happy that the court would think about its request to make things fair for US employers by making sure that the same rules are used when deciding whether to stop something from happening.

Trump ordered to pay back New York Times $392,00 in legal fees
Ex-President Donald Trump has to give nearly $400,000 to the New York Times for legal fees because he lost a lawsuit.
Mr Trump is suing the newspaper and his niece, Mary Trump, for $100 million. He says they were trying to secretly get his tax records.
Last year, a judge threw out the case because it didn’t meet the requirements of the law.
Articles about Mr. Trump’s money won a big prize called the Pulitzer.
On Friday, a judge in New York ordered Donald Trump, who is a Democrat, to pay the New York Times for the costs of a lawsuit he lost.
The judge decided that the amount of money, $392,638, was fair after thinking about a lot of things, like how complicated the case was and how good the newspaper’s lawyers are.
The lawsuit is about a 2018 investigation that said the old president was involved in shady tax plans. It says three journalists who wrote about it were teaming up with Mr. Trump’s niece to hurt him. It said that they kept following her and convinced her to give them some papers.
Judge Reed decided in May that the case is over. He said that the law allows reporters to do their job of gathering news without any problems.
The judge said that the activities were very important to the First Amendment, which allows people to speak freely.
The BBC asked Mr. Trump’s lawyer for a comment. -
Elon Musk attacks X advertisers with explicit profanity
Elon Musk has used bad words and criticized the advertisers who have left X, saying they will make the social media platform fail.
At a meeting in New York, he said that the companies not advertising on the website, previously called Twitter, were trying to force him into doing something by withholding their ads.
The billionaire used a rude word to tell someone to go away in an interview.
Some companies have stopped advertising on X because they are worried about antisemitism. This includes a post from Mr.
The boss of Tesla and SpaceX said sorry on Wednesday for a post he made. He called it the “dumbest” thing he’s ever shared online.
However, his answer to a question about companies like Disney, Apple, and Comcast boycotting advertisements caused a lot of attention at the meeting of influential people from business, politics, and culture.
“Mr Musk said he doesn’t want them to advertise,” at the New York Times‘ DealBook Summit.
“If someone tries to make me do something I don’t want to do by threatening me with ads or money, they can go away. ”
Please Oh You Is it understandable. Hey Bob, if you’re listening, that’s how I feel.
He was talking about Disney’s boss, Bob Iger, who just spoke at the meeting.
Mrs Yaccarino, the CEO of X, was in the room with Mr. Musk, trying to get advertisers to come back to the platform.
Mr Musk also said that advertisers have the power to end X.
“This advertising boycott is going to destroy the company,” he said.
“He said everyone will know that the advertisers caused the company to fail, and we will write down all the details. ”
Ms Yaccarino reposted an interview she found very honest and also added her own thoughts about advertising. She believes that X is in a great position where freedom of speech and business come together, and that the community is strong and welcoming.
Mr Musk went to Israel after he seemed to support an antisemitic conspiracy theory last month.
I apologize for that tweet. “On Wednesday, he said it could be the worst and stupidest post I’ve ever made,”
The boycott is not only about that post.
Many advertisers chose to spend their money somewhere else.
In April, Mr. Musk told the media that almost all of the advertisers have either returned or will return.
Three months later, he said in a post on X that the money made from ads had gone down by half.
Before, a report by a liberal group called Media Matters claimed to have evidence that some ads were placed next to Nazi content.
X is saying that the group’s report did not accurately show how X’s users feel. They think the report is trying to stop people from speaking freely and to trick companies who advertise on X. X is taking Media Matters to court.
It’s not clear if Mr. Musk’s comments will convince advertisers to come back. The company depends a lot on their money.
We don’t know how much money X makes from ads right now because it’s a private company and doesn’t share its financial reports anymore.
However, before Mr. Musk became the leader of the company, most of Twitter’s money came from advertising. -
Peace can never reign between Israel and Hamas – Former Israeli ambassador
Mark Regev, who used to represent Israel in the UK, says that there can’t be peace with Hamas.
Regev told the media that it is not possible to make peace with Hamas because they have said so themselves. This happened on the News hour programme on Monday evening.
He was probably talking about a statement made earlier this month by Taher El-Nounou, a media advisor for the group Hamas. He told the New York Times that Hamas wants the war with Israel to continue on all the borders and never stop.
“We need to discuss a future without Hamas,” Regev said.
When someone asked if Israel will help rebuild the Gaza Strip, which was badly damaged by Israel’s bombing, Regev said his country’s money is being used to rebuild towns in southern Israel instead.
He said he thinks a lot of other countries will help pay for Gaza to be rebuilt.
We didn’t start or want this war, as you know. “Hamas is to blame for starting the fighting,” he said. -

Trump did not have a mugshot taken, according to one of his lawyers, Alina Habba.
‘President Trump is in a very unique position where he does not need to be given a mugshot, obviously,’ Habba told reporters outside the courthouse.
‘He’s not a flight risk. He is the leading candidate of the GOP at the moment. He is going through a process that has been coordinated with the Secret Service and it will all be handled seamlessly.’
Trump entered the courtroom for his initial appearance around 2.45pm.
The ex-president arrived at courthouse shortly before 2pm to surrender on criminal charges around his handling of classified documents. His motorcade arrived about an hour before his scheduled 3pm arraignment and drove into an underground garage.
Trump supporters cheered as the motorcade drove in.

Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman is presiding over the arraignment.

The ex-president’s last post on his Truth Social platform before he entered the courthouse was: ‘ONE OF THE SADDEST DAYS IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY. WE ARE A NATION IN DECLINE!!!’
The trial will be overseen by a Trump appointee, Judge Aileen Cannon, who was randomly assigned. Cannon has previously issued rulings favorable to Trump.
Former First Lady Melania Trump was reportedly in New York City.
Meanwhile, dozens of reporters waited at Trump’s golf club in Bedminister, New Jersey, where he is expected to deliver remarks at 8.15pm.

7 migrants killed at a bus stop in Texas
After a car slammed into a bus stop in front of a homeless shelter in Texas, seven migrants perished.
According to Victor Maldonado, the Bishop Enrique San Pedro Ozanam Center’s director, a group of people can be seen sitting on a nearby curb at around 8.30am local time on Sunday on the shelter’s surveillance camera.
“This SUV, a Range Rover, just ran the light that was about 100 feet away and just went through the people who were sitting there in the bus stop,” he explained.
The majority of the victims, Mr. Maldonado continued, were guys from Venezuela.
He said that the car had flipped over after mounting the pavement and continued for another 200ft before coming to a stop.
The New York Times quoted Judge Eddie Trevino Jr of Cameron County, who said it was currently unclear whether the driver had intentionally hit the group, or whether they had simply lost control of the vehicle.
He added the driver, along with 11 others, was taken to hospital.
Brownsville Police Department say the driver was detained at the scene by witnesses, and tested for intoxication.
The condition of those receiving care is not presently known.
Judge Trevino described the scene as ‘very graphic’.
He said the injuries looked ‘very serious’ and added: ‘It’s a tragedy either way, but if it was intentional, it’s worse.’
Police have confirmed investigators are on the scene of a major incident and that roads in the area have been cordoned off.
The Texas border city is a key transit point for migrants crossing the US-Mexico border, with the Ozanam centre its only overnight shelter, managing the release of thousands of migrants from federal custody.
Director Mr Maldonado said the centre had not received any threats prior to the incident, but that intimidating statements had been made in the hours since.
He said: ‘I’ve had a couple of people come by the gate and tell the security guard that the reason this happened was because of us.’
