5 ways Kennedy Agyapong campaigned for Mahama and NDC at Show Down Walk

Flagbearer hopeful of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kennedy Agyapong seem to be making the campaign message of the National Democratic Congress much easier.

The unconventional NPP known for “rough talking” is essentially arming the NDC leader by their flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

    Addressing participants of his fitness tour of Accra dubbed “Show Down Walk” MP said the following;

NPP lost election 2024 in 2022

In his speech, Agyapong asserted that the NPP lost the election for 2024 in 2022 due to the depreciation of the cedi and the effects of the Domestic Debt Exchange scheme, which destroyed middle-class and elderly savings.

“We lost the 2024 elections in 2022. At the time the Ghana cedi destroyed the hard work of many businessmen, all the way to the tomato seller. Ghanaians will never forget that.

“The time the middle class went to court because their monies were lost, and the time the pensioners had their monies gone, Ghanaians will remember that,” he stated.

Slots in police being sold to party people

“You are a delegate, they’ve asked us to be mute but I will speak, because if your child is going to look for a job and you can be asked to bring 10,000 cedis before your child would be recruited into the police…

“These same people are coming to you seeking your votes, so that your children remain jobless,” Agyapong jabbed without addressing the specific persons he was referring to as “they.”

He continued by praising his own track record of creating jobs, emphasizing how well he distinguished out from the other NPP flagbearer candidates.

Ghana needs pragmatic leaders not theorists and talkers

“If Ghana will prosper, it needs pragmatic leaders not theorists who bombard you with big English repeatedly even when you are poor.

“We need a local language speaking leader who will speak in clear terms and also work to ensure you have money in your pocket,” Agyapong said stressing that as a businessman and politician he had the perfect leadership traits and balance to turn Ghana around.

Misuse of resources led us to IMF

“God has blessed us with so much that if we took proper care of them, there would be no need to go to the foreigners for help,” he stated.

This is a covert barb at the government’s ongoing program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which has already delivered the first installment of a US$3 billion bailout, or US$600 million.

    Youth unemployment is rising

“Ghanaians are ready to give Kennedy Agyapong a chance, the onus is now on New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to elect Ken Agyapong to rescue Ghana for young people to get jobs.

“A country with a youth who have a bleak future is no country,” he stated in a speech that was punctuated with his jobs record and how he would tackle unemployment.

Your plans of disrupting voter registration exercise shall not prevail – NPP to NDC

Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is plotting to disrupt the imminent limited voter registration exercise.

During a live social media interaction, Mustapha urged the Ghana Police Service to remain vigilant and respond appropriately to such attempts.

“The NDC intends to misbehave a lot as the process begins because they want to give the Electoral Commission a bad name. They are mobilizing thugs, bandits, and crooks across the country to attack district officers and other places where the registration will be ongoing.

“I want to urge the Ghana Police Service to be on the lookout for such clandestine and dastardly behaviour from the NDC and it should not be tolerated. We cannot allow dangerous people to destroy our democracy,” Mustapha said.

Mustapha also urged Ghanaians to support the NPP to maintain power, ensuring continuity in development, particularly emphasizing the party’s job creation agenda. He firmly stated that the NPP remains the country’s best choice.

“In terms of job creation, the NPP has created more jobs than any other government we have seen. The NDC in 2020 came with a manifesto that the aim was to create one million jobs in four years.

“In essence, they are going to create 250,000 every year. That is a very lazy approach and a drop in the ocean. The NPP has so far created far in excess of two million jobs and these figures are verifiable,” Mustapha said.

The limited voter registration exercise is set to commence on Tuesday, September 12, under the oversight of the Electoral Commission (EC), aimed at updating the voters’ register in preparation for the 2024 general elections.

  • NPP flagbearership: I am ready to put his legal practice on the line if Bawumia doesn’t win -Obiri Boahen

NPP flagbearership: I am ready to put his legal practice on the line if Bawumia doesn’t win -Obiri Boahen

The former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has issued a challenge to two university professors who suggested that Vice President Dr. Mahamamudu Bawumia might not secure the party’s flagbearer position.

As a private legal practitioner, Obiri Boahen is prepared to defend his belief that Bawumia will emerge as the NPP’s flagbearer, putting his legal practice on the line in this challenge.

“Mark it at any permanent place, Prof Gyampo says Bawumia cannot win and I am insisting he will win. He should bet his position as UTAG president on it, I am also willing to bet my legal practice on it.

“Both Prof Gyampfo and Prof Asah Asante. I will stop being a lawyer, I won’t ever enter a court room again,” he vowed during an interview on Angel FM.

On November 4, 2023, the New Patriotic Party will convene a national delegates congress to select a flagbearer from among the five candidates chosen by the party’s special delegates congress.

During the electoral college vote held on August 26, 2023, to reduce the number of candidates from 10 to five, Vice President Dr. Bawumia secured the highest number of votes, receiving over 600 votes, which accounted for approximately 68% of the total votes cast.

  • Francis Addai Nimoh set to compete in NPP Primaries

Francis Addai Nimoh set to compete in NPP Primaries

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially declared Francis Addai Nimoh as the fifth candidate, resolving the tie with former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

The declaration comes after Boakye Agyarko’s withdrawal from the contest.

Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee, formally conveyed the cancellation in a letter addressed to Boakye Agyarko.

During the NPP’s Super Delegates Congress, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured the highest votes, emerging as the top candidate among the five selected to participate in the party’s primaries scheduled for November 4.

The Super Delegates Congress was conducted to choose five presidential aspirants from a pool of ten candidates who had submitted their candidacies.

After collecting votes from all 17 polling centers across the country, Vice President Dr. Bawumia received 68.15% of the total votes cast, followed by Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, with 14.30%.

Alan Kyerematen, former Trades Minister, came third with 10.29%, and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto secured fourth place with 3.90%.

However, a tie emerged between Francis Addai-Nimoh and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, both receiving 0.98% of the total votes cast.

Consequently, a run-off was scheduled for September 2 to determine the final candidate.

The decision by the National Council to constitute an electoral college comprised of its members to break the tie faced opposition from Boakye Agyarko.

He formally withdrew from the upcoming run-off election, citing unconstitutionality in the National Council’s decision to narrow down the selection process to a select few individuals, instead of considering all 955 individuals who participated in the first round.

Boakye Agyarko also argued that the establishment of a new electoral college violated the party’s constitution and raised additional legal concerns.

  • There were no legal breaches in preparation towards run-off elections – NPP

There were no legal breaches in preparation towards run-off elections – NPP

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has justified its choice to limit voting rights exclusively to National Council members for the runoff election, intended to resolve the deadlock between Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The party has been criticized for restricting voting privileges to only the members of the National Council, the party’s second-highest decision-making body.

Boakye Agyarko, one of the aspirants, decried this move as unconstitutional.

“If you look at the party’s constitution, there is no provision that says that this is how a run-off would be conducted. So we are saying that the National Council did not depart from the position of the Presidential Elections Committee. The National Council has only given the modalities for the conduct of the run-off, and so the September 2 date, given by the Presidential Elections Committee, has been confirmed by the National Council. The National Council only said that the delegates for the run-off will be members of the council,” he said.

According to Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections and Research, the NPP’s constitution lacks specific provisions on how a run-off should be conducted.

Therefore, the National Council’s decision to have council members as the sole voters for the run-off, scheduled for Saturday, September 2, was in line with the Presidential Elections Committee’s earlier stance. They confirmed the September 2 date and upheld the requirement that only council members could participate in the run-off.

However, the NPP later canceled the run-off, which was initially intended to decide between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko, following Mr. Agyarko’s withdrawal from the race.

In a letter addressed to Boakye Agyarko, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee, acknowledged Agyarko’s decision and announced the cancellation of the September 2, 2023 run-off.

This run-off was intended to determine which candidate would join the other four aspirants in the party’s presidential primary on November 4, 2023.

Boakye Agyarko had decided not to participate in the run-off, citing a breach of the party’s constitution in a letter dated August 31, 2023, and addressed to Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, Chairman of the NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee.

This decision followed a Special Delegates’ Conference held by the NPP the previous Saturday, during which the number of flagbearer hopefuls was reduced from ten to five.

Kwadwo Poku express contentment with three votes at NPP primaries

A former flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, has expressed contentment with the three votes he received during the Special Delegates Conference held on Saturday, August 26.

Initially confident in securing a position among the top five contenders for the presidential candidacy on November 4, Mr. Poku’s hopes were dashed when he garnered only three votes out of the 955 delegates who participated in the NPP’s special delegates conference.

This outcome has eliminated him from the flagbearership competition set for November.

During an interview with the media on Monday, Mr. Poku defended his satisfaction with the three votes, clarifying that some delegates voted more than once.

“You know some people voted twice…I don’t vote, So some of the candidates who voted for themselves and also had a proxy voted twice. So if you look at my three votes…that for me is a plus.”

“But for my first votes, I think I have done well and I am very happy with myself,” he added.

The party on Saturday, August, 26, 2023 delegates from the NPP gathered to cast their votes.

The purpose was to narrow down the field of ten presidential aspirants to a final selection of five candidates.

After the votes, the official results revealed a significant victory for vice president, Dr. Bawumia, positioning him favorably ahead of the main primary scheduled for November.

Dr. Bawumia secured a resounding win by amassing 629 votes, securing the top position.

In the same vein, Kennedy Agyapong secured the second position with a total of 132 votes, while Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen acquired 95 votes, placing him third.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto followed with 36 votes, securing the fourth position.

Both Mr. Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai Nimoh shared the fifth spot with nine votes each.

The remaining results were as follows: Kwabena Agyei Agyepong secured six votes, Joe Ghartey gained four votes, Kwadwo Poku received three votes, and Kofi Konadu Apraku obtained zero votes.

The party is expected to its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections on November 4, 2023.

  • NPP primaries: We’re ready to host a run-off – Evans Nimako

NPP primaries: We’re ready to host a run-off – Evans Nimako

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken measures to prepare for a potential run-off this Saturday, August 26, 2023.

Speaking to the media, the Director of Elections and Research, Evans Nimako, stated that in case the delegates are unable to choose the initial five candidates for the November 4th election, the party will hold a run-off on September 2nd.

“It has been agreed that in the event of the conference not being able to produce the first five, there will have to be a re-run and so September 2, 2023, has been slated for a possible run-off date.”

“The letter of our Constitution in Article 13 (1.9) indicates that there must be first five of the presidential candidates and so if it is the first three, then it means there will have to be another election for the two to be elected to add up to five,” he added.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, NPP delegates will partake in a vote to trim the current pool of ten presidential aspirants down to a final selection of five.

This Special Electoral College event will serve as a precursor to the pivotal national conference set for November 4, 2023.

The party will then designate its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

This nationwide balloting process follows several months of intense campaigning by the aspirants, who traversed the entire country in an effort to secure the favor of the delegates, who hold the power to shape their fates.

A total of 956 delegates are expected to participate in the elections.

The super delegates conference, renowned for its significance in determining key decisions and selecting prominent leaders within the NPP, is poised to be an event of considerable influence.

Drawing together delegates from various regions and constituencies, the congress is a testament to the party’s commitment to participatory democracy and inclusivity.

In a statement, the NPP indicated that the delegates are expected to represent various constituencies from across the country.

“Nine hundred and fifty-six (956) delegates are expected to participate in this election. As per the NPP Constitution, the Special Electoral College comprises representatives from various Party entities, including: the National Council, the National Executive Committee, all Regional Executive Committees, all Members of the National Council of Elders, all the Party Members of Parliament, etc.” the statement said.

  • Ministers who report to duty late shall be sacked during my tenure – Kennedy Agyapong

Ministers who report to duty late shall be sacked during my tenure – Kennedy Agyapong

A candidate aspiring to be the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has emphasized his commitment to curbing misconduct among government appointees if he secures the presidency in Ghana.

Aiming to set a precedent, Agyapong stated that any minister of state failing to adhere to punctuality norms would not only be dismissed but also publicly shamed to deter similar behavior by other officials.

In an interview on August 22, 2023, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central stressed that he would not entertain apologies from politicians, royalty, or even his own family, underlining the importance of accountability.

Agyapong’s stance also extends to scrutinizing government contracts meticulously during his potential tenure as president.

He cited a need for fairness and transparency, vowing to challenge the current trend of exorbitant profits, asserting that profit margins of 300% would not be tolerated in his administration.

Highlighting his dual roles as a politician and businessman, Agyapong expressed his commitment to prioritizing the interests of Ghana over other considerations, promising a thorough review of contracts that have gained approval under both NDC and NPP leaderships.

In this way, Agyapong aims to usher in an era of disciplined governance and responsible contract management, should he assume the presidency.

“I have said on several occasions that during my tenure as president, if you flout a rule and you are punished, I won’t heed any apology from any politician, king, or even my family, I won’t listen. It is by doing this that people will be deterred, and do the right thing. If a minister reports to duty late, I will sack the person and embarrass him in public by announcing that the minister has been fired due to lateness and ask the deputy minister of that ministry to take over,” he said.

“In business, if you are able to make a profit after taxes between 15-30%, you will survive in business. But in Ghana, an individual can make a profit of 300%, under my leadership as president, it will not work. We are going to scrutinize [contracts]. Ghanaians are fortunate that Kennedy Agyapong is a politician and a businessman, so I will check contracts very well. Under the leadership of both NDC and NPP, I am surprised why lawyers and government officials approve certain contracts. So I am aware of the challenges [facing Ghanaians], when I come into power, I will prioritize Ghana over everything,” he added.

  • I am the only one with big dreams for Ghana – Dr. Afriyie Akoto

I am the only one with big dreams for Ghana – Dr. Afriyie Akoto

A flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has distinguished himself as the sole candidate among the ten vying for the party’s flagbearer position with comprehensive plans to enhance the quality of life in Ghana.

Asserting that his approach stands out, he underscored his vision of propelling agriculture to underpin the growth of various economic sectors and his ambitious initiative to create enterprises for the NPP.

These concepts, he believes, are highly feasible, and when implemented, they will deliver the long-awaited positive transformation that Ghanaians have yearned for.

Based on his extensive travels across the nation, Dr. Afriyie Akoto acknowledged the diminished optimism among people due to their enduring economic struggles.

Fueled by this observation, he is galvanized to challenge conventional business principles and enhance the lives of the populace.

During an interview at his campaign office in Accra on August 15, 2023, he expounded that his vision of establishing NPP-owned enterprises isn’t groundbreaking, as similar endeavors have prospered globally.

These ventures, he noted, have generated substantial income and job opportunities for party activists.

“The morale of the people are down. The revival of their morale is based on what I intend to do. I have big plans for Ghana – plans that can generate income for the development of our great NPP to pay our activists handsomely to encourage them to work hard for this party; and plans to use agriculture to develop the other sectors of the economy. These are ambitious plans that I have prioritized to implement when given the nod to lead the NPP and Ghana,” he noted.

Elaborating on his aspirations for the NPP, Dr. Akoto, a former two-term Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, shared his vision to establish a network of party-owned businesses on national, regional, and constituency levels, all managed by a central holding company.

These enterprises, he explained, would provide a revenue stream for party operations and create employment opportunities for members.

Drawing inspiration from examples such as Taiwan’s Kuomintang (KMT), South Africa’s ANC, and Rwanda’s RPF, who have developed substantial business interests, Dr. Akoto envisioned a parallel scenario for the NPP.

He emphasized that this approach is pragmatic and sustainable, allowing the party to flourish while positively impacting society.

“In essence, my vision for the party is based on proven models from other parts of the world. For instance, the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa owns various businesses, including mining and insurance companies. This strategy enables them to pay reasonable wages to their members and activists, fostering job creation and development. I intend to bring this vision to the New Patriotic Party, elevating our capabilities and transforming lives,” he affirmed.

Concerning his vision for the country, Dr. Akoto underlined the untapped wealth in Ghana’s agricultural sector.

He proposed agriculture as the catalyst to break the cycle of poverty and debt dependency. Drawing from his experience as the Minister of Food and Agriculture, he advocated for comprehensive support to farmers and the establishment of enabling institutions.

His leadership in founding the Tree Development Authority (TDA), aimed at nurturing six key tree crops, showcased his commitment to transforming Ghana’s agricultural landscape.

Dr. Akoto aspires for these efforts to mirror cocoa’s success, potentially yielding annual revenues ranging from US$6 billion to US$12 billion for the nation.

“This is my vision – a vision of utilizing agriculture to address poverty at its core. We must move away from perpetual borrowing and reliance on external institutions. Ghana’s farmers, with the right support, have the capacity to drive this change. My priority is to empower them and facilitate the creation of necessary institutions,” he asserted.

NAPO is effectively managing Ghana’s energy sector – NPP

A member of the communications team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawrence Kwesi Botchway Jnr, has lauded the remarkable leadership and lasting impact of the former Minister of Education and current Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, on national development.

He particularly highlighted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s pivotal role in preventing an electricity crisis in the country.

In an interview, Botchway described Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the “architect of Ghana’s energy success,” commending his accomplishments in propelling the nation towards a more sustainable economy through effective management of the energy sector.

He further lauded the minister’s dedication and effectiveness in maintaining continuous power supply, even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We must laud the Minister’s dedication and effectiveness in keeping the lights on and the nation running. NAPO’s timely and effective response showcased his mastery of the energy landscape, ensuring uninterrupted power supply till now and even during the challenging COVID-19 epoch. Unlike the past era of ‘dumsor’, Ghana experienced stability and reliability in its power infrastructure, a testament to Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s strategic leadership in the energy sector,” he stated.

Botchway also emphasized the transformative impact of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which was championed by Dr. Opoku Prempeh and President Akufo-Addo.

He cited significant statistics, showcasing the substantial increase in student enrollment from 6,000 in 2016 to 1.2 million today.

Botchway attributed this growth to visionary leadership and not just political maneuvering, highlighting President Akufo-Addo’s role in making education accessible to all students, regardless of their background.

Botchway concluded by praising President Akufo-Addo’s legacy, which he sees as a gift to Ghana’s future generations.

He emphasized that the Free SHS policy has dismantled financial barriers, allowing both privileged and disadvantaged students to access quality education.

  • It’s sad people who speak the truth are labeled as arrogant – Kennedy Agyapong

It’s sad people who speak the truth are labeled as arrogant – Kennedy Agyapong

A presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has raised alarm over the unfair categorization of individuals who speak the truth as arrogant.

During an interview with the media, the prominent business mogul expressed his distress about the unjust classification of truth tellers, asserting that this unjust label is deterring many from openly addressing crucial matters.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, added that this apprehension arises from the fear of being unfairly branded as arrogant.

“A lot of people in Ghana are afraid to speak the truth because they are afraid they will be called arrogant. When you speak the truth, they say you are arrogant, they say you are insulting,” noted the Assin Central lawmaker in a conversation with host Umaru Sanda Amadu.

Regarding his often perceived sharp commentary and responses on public media platforms, Agyapong emphasized, “I always reciprocate actions and before I come out, you would have done it for several times that I did not even say anything and one day, when I come out, because it is me, then the public begin to have problems with my response and I think that is unfair.”

He stressed the importance of confidence, boldness, honesty, sincerity, and discipline in the country’s development, pointing out the need for a change in this regard. He criticized the situation where those who respond to allegations and insults are reprimanded while the initial provocations are overlooked, deeming it unjust.

Agyapong concluded by defending himself, stating that he serves as a positive role model due to his significant accomplishments outweighing any perceived negative aspects.

  •  I want to enhance my constituents’ socio-economic well-being–Joseph Kumah Mackay

I want to enhance my constituents’ socio-economic well-being–Joseph Kumah Mackay

Joseph Kumah Mackay, an aspirant New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Sene West, has stated his intention to unseat the area’s Member of Parliament (MP) in order to better the socioeconomic conditions of the constituents.

“In fact, I have not given up in contesting the parliamentary seat since 2012 because the constituents have not witnessed any significant improvement in their socio-economic livelihoods,” he said.

The current National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, Mr. Twumasi Ampofo, has held the Sene West constituency parliamentary seat for some time.

The CEO of the Middle Belt Development Authority, Mr. Mackay, asserted that nothing would stop him from unseating the incumbent MP.

“Even the parliamentary primary is a done deal. What we are thinking about now is the best strategy to unseat the incumbent MP, and capture the parliamentary seat for the NPP,” he told the Ghana News Agency.

Mr. Mackay made this statement after submitting his nomination paperwork to the NPP’s constituency office in Kwame-Danso, the administrative centre of the Sene West District in the Bono East Region.

Politics, he explained, was meant for development, and “it is unfortunate the constituents here continue to wallow in abject poverty and thereby struggle to live on their little income”.

He acknowledged that many of the local rural communities lacked social services and pledged to see to it that the abandoned Bantama market project got back on track.

Other projects, which had been stalled for some years now, including the Kwame-Danso Community Centre, at the roofing level, would be completed while separate teachers’ quarters at Akyeremade and Drobe communities would also commence, Mr Mackey said.

“We are also finalising modalities for the construction of a standard Astro-turf pitch at Kwame-Danso, while a contract for the reshaping of the worsened nature of the about six-kilometre Kwame-Danso-Akyeremade road would be awarded soon.”

“The Government has equally shared the few development projects in the constituency devoid of political biases, and if indeed the electorate wanted more of these projects, then they must rethink and change their voting pattern to vote for the NPP in the Election 2024,” he said.

  • NPP primaries: Twelve individuals join Western North contest

NPP primaries: Twelve individuals join Western North contest

A total of twelve aspirants from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have completed the nomination process, positioning themselves to vie for victory in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.

These aspirants are seeking representation in the party’s orphan constituencies within the Western North Region.

Within this region, there are six orphan constituencies, which do not currently have an incumbent NPP Member of Parliament.

Notably, three constituencies—Bibiani-Anwhiaso Bekwai, Wiawso, and Akontombra—currently have sitting MPs.

In the Bodi constituency, a trio of aspirants—namely, Mr. Samuel Opoku Nyame, Mr. Francis Atta Owusu, and Mr. Nicholas Andoh—have officially filed their nominations to compete.

For the Juaboso constituency, Mr. Alex Ampaabeng and Mrs. Martha Kwayie Manu, who serves as the Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, have presented their candidacies.

Additionally, Mr. Bernard Gyebi Blay, the District Chief Executive of Bia West, and Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, the constituency chairman of Bia West, have similarly entered the race in the Bia West constituency.

The Bia East constituency has seen Mr. Nicholas Kupog Yayin, the District Chief Executive, and Mr. Evans Amoah file for candidacy.

In the Aowin constituency, the contest features Mr. Abanga Yakubu Fusani and Mr. Isaac Brew, the Aowin constituency secretary.

The Suaman constituency, however, witnessed the submission of nomination solely by Mr. Frederick Addy, who held the role of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the 2020 elections. His submission marked the only nomination by the closing date on August 10.

Notably, Mr. Solomon Kelly Parku, an aspirant initially set to participate in the Juaboso constituency race, announced his withdrawal from contention through a press statement.

Citing unwavering political loyalty as a guiding principle, Parku conveyed his commitment to upholding this value, ultimately leading to his decision to step away from the competition.

In anticipation of the forthcoming parliamentary primaries, Mr. Felix Foster Ackah, the Regional Secretary of the party, emphasized that the aspirants would undergo a vetting process.

He also urged them to uphold a high standard of conduct, with the aim of fostering unity within the party after the primaries conclude.

  • Alan incurs wrath of NPP constituency chairmen in Ashanti Region

Alan incurs wrath of NPP constituency chairmen in Ashanti Region

A group of constituency chairmen from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Adanse enclave of the Ashanti Region in Ghana are demanding an apology and correction from the campaign team of John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen. The chairmen claim that they have been misrepresented in terms of their preferred candidate for the upcoming flagbearer contest within the party.

Reports emerged that the chairmen were inaccurately portrayed in a video following John Alan Kyerematen’s visit to the area as part of his campaign for the party’s flagbearer position. The group of chairmen, who have openly endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the role, expressed their displeasure over the portrayal of their statements and views in the video.

They clarified that, out of respect for the democratic process and their party, they attended John Alan Kyerematen’s campaign event. However, they emphasized that their endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as their preferred candidate remains steadfast and unchanged. They also pointed out that only one out of the six constituency chairmen in the Adanse enclave does not support Dr. Bawumia, and even that individual does not support Kyerematen either.

The chairmen took issue with how their statements were allegedly misused and manipulated to imply support for Kyerematen in the media, particularly on UTV. They consider this misrepresentation to be misleading and unfair. As a result, they are demanding that Kyerematen’s campaign team issues a retraction and apology for the video that they believe distorted their views.

The NPP has a special delegates congress scheduled for August 26, 2023, during which the number of approved candidates for the party’s flagbearer position will be reduced from 10 to five. This contest is a significant event for the party as it determines who will represent them in the upcoming presidential elections.

Read the full statement by the group below:

RETRACT AND APOLOGISE TO US FOR THE ERRONEOUs MISREPRESENTATION ASHANTI CONSTITUENCY CHAIRMEN TO ALAN

Our attention has been drawn to the circulation of a video which erroneously and unfairly misrepresents our position and views with respect to our preferred choice for the upcoming presidential elections in our party.

We are highly livid and worried about how our statements have been mischievously pieced together to portray a supposed declaration for Hon. Alan Kyerematen, and same shown on UTV during their major news bulletin.

We the Constituency chairmen of the Adanse enclave have already openly and boldly declared our support for the Vice President, HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as our choice for the flag-bearership race, and this is a decision that we don’t intend to rescind nor reverse. To set the records straight, among the 6 constituency chairmen of the Adanse Enclave, it is only the New Edubiase constituency chairman who doesn’t support Dr. Bawumia, and even with that, he doesn’t support Hon. Kyerematen either.

We as constituency chairmen thought it was the right, appropriate and honourable thing to do, when we received and honoured the invitation of Hon Alan Kyerematen’s team to the delegates durbar since he’s also one of the presidential aspirants and a stalwart of our party. We accorded him that respect just as we would accord any other presidential aspirant the same respect a d audience. But for his team to misrepresent our statements is something we find absolutely wrong and unfair.

We therefore demand an unqualified apology from them. Thank you.

Here are Alan Kyerematen’s ’10 points’ to transform NPP

A hopeful candidate for the flagbearer position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kyerematen, has reportedly unveiled an ambitious plan to overhaul the party by the year 2030.

According to reports, the plan, titled “Transformation and Modernization of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) – Agenda 2030,” comprises ten key pillars.

The plan, introduced on Friday, August 11, 2023, aims to invigorate the NPP, making it a more dynamic, efficient, and all-encompassing political entity.

Central to the plan is an emphasis on expanding the NPP’s membership and bolstering the party’s financial stability through the establishment of party-run businesses.

Furthermore, the plan seeks to provide comprehensive support for grassroots party executives, including the provision of salaries and insurance coverage for their roles.

Another critical focus of the plan is the enhancement of the party’s administrative infrastructure, ensuring its strength and efficacy.

Alan Kyerematen’s strategic vision for the NPP outlines a comprehensive roadmap for transformation and modernization, potentially paving the way for a revitalized and influential political organization.

Below are the 10 pillars of Alan’s plan to transform the NPP below:

    1. Aggressively expanding the membership base of the Party, focusing particularly on the Youth and Women, and introducing a Membership Reward Scheme to incentivize Party members.

    2. Enhancing the financial strength of the Party by establishing commercially viable medium and large-scale Party-owned business enterprises, and other investment activities.

    3. Promoting the welfare of Party Executives and other officials of the Party at all levels of the Party structure, including but not limited to the payment of salaries/allowances, and the establishment of a Pension Scheme for Party officials.

    4. Strengthening the management, organizational and operational efficiency of the Party’s Field Executives and Administrative staff.

    5. Building the Policy research and analytical capacity of the Party.
    6. Integrating more fully the Party’s External Branches into the activities of the Party, as well as identifying talents to fill executive positions in government.

    7. Strengthening Government-Party relations and interactions by institutionalizing regular consultations on matters related to government and party administration.

    8. Reviewing the Party’s Constitution and other legal instruments to respond to and reflect current political dynamics.

    9. Establishing strategic partnerships between the Party and relevant local and international institutions and organisations, including political affiliations.

    10. Modernizing Party infrastructure and other facilities of the Party across the country.

  • Recurring coup can only end if our leaders become ‘matured’ – Dr. Tamekloe

Recurring coup can only end if our leaders become ‘matured’ – Dr. Tamekloe

A prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamekloe, has attributed the persistent occurrence of coup d’états in Africa to a dearth of mature leadership across the continent.

He asserted that unless African leaders adopt a more mature mindset, the cycle of coup d’états will likely persist.

In an interview with the media, the seasoned politician highlighted the recent coup that unfolded in Niger on July 26, 2023, as a vivid example.

Dr. Tamekloe pointed out that many African leaders focus on manipulating systems to their advantage and diverting resources for personal gain.

Drawing parallels across the African context, he emphasized that the issue transcends national borders, encompassing the entire continent.

Dr. Tamekloe criticized leaders who cling to power, manipulate elections, and prioritize personal interests, which he identifies as root causes of the recurring coup dynamics.

He stressed that a shift towards more mature and responsible leadership is crucial to breaking this cycle.

Dr. Tamekloe warned that the self-serving greed of current politicians and their successors could lead to the downfall of their countries. Such practices, he argued, hinder the true progress and prosperity of a nation, undermining its potential for sustainable development.

The recent series of coup d’états in the Western and Northern regions of Africa has raised serious concerns, both within the Sub-region and internationally.

Driven by the military junta, these upheavals have posed challenges for efforts to restore democracy and stability.

Despite the intervention of bodies like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a formidable alliance has formed among the military leadership in Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea, Sudan, and now Niger, complicating regional stability.

  • NPP Volta organizer sued for defamation

NPP Volta organizer sued for defamation

The Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Volta Region, Pope Yao Yevoo, along with Emmanuel Quarshie, the Deputy Organiser of the NPP in the same region, have initiated legal proceedings by filing a defamation lawsuit against the NPP Organizer for the Volta Region, Korsi Bodja.

In their legal action, they are seeking compensation amounting to GH₵1 million for the harm caused by defamatory statements.

Additionally, they are requesting the court to compel the defendant to retract the defamatory remarks and publications, with equal prominence, and to prevent the defendant from making further defamatory comments or publishing damaging statements about them.

The lawsuit, also asks the court to order the defendant to publish the retraction in a manner that matches the original publication’s prominence.

This lawsuit has been prompted by the plaintiffs’ claim that the defendant authored a petition that was subsequently published by various media outlets.

The petition alleged that the plaintiffs intentionally diverted campaign materials intended for distribution within Ewe communities prior to the Assin North Constituency by-election.

The campaign items supposedly included hairdryers, cutlasses, Wellington boots, head pans, fertilizers, and sewing machines.

The plaintiffs assert that the defendant’s petition falsely accused them of wrongdoing, implying that they engaged in dishonest and fraudulent activities.

Pope Yao Yevoo and Emmanuel Quarshie contend that these allegations have caused significant damage to their reputations, resulting in diminished credibility, public scorn, and personal distress.

They claim that the defendant’s actions have tarnished their standing and subjected them to considerable embarrassment.

Consequently, they are seeking not only the financial compensation mentioned but also other remedies as deemed appropriate by the court.

NPP Primaries: Mathew Silas Amoah joins Bolgatanga East contest

A dedicated entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mathew Silas Amoah, has officially submitted his nomination to participate in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Primaries within the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Upper East region.

At the age of 34, he firmly believes that his dynamic youthfulness coupled with his extensive business experience positions him as the optimal choice to spearhead the NPP’s representation in the area.

Amoah remains hopeful that his potential election would result in a successful acquisition of the seat currently held by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reflecting his aspiration to contribute significantly to the political landscape.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten candidates.

An initial super delegate conference in August 2023 will narrow the field to five contenders, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential nominee for the 2024 elections.

The roster of candidates includes Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen, energy expert Kwadwo Poku, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former General Secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former MP for Offinso North Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.

Number of ministries to be reduced under my governance – Kwabena Agyapong

The aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Agyapong, has pledged to reduce the number of ministries in Parliament when elected president.

Speaking to the media, Mr Agyapong proposed the removal of certain ministries, including the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Chieftaincy, which previously functioned as a secretariat within the presidency.

He asserted that this strategic reduction of ministries would communicate a resolute moral stance to the Ghanaian populace, particularly during a period of economic revitalization.

He emphasized his commitment to prudent measures aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by Ghanaians.

“If I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be President, I’ll be substantially different. I don’t see why there should be a Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Chieftaincy. It used to be a Secretariat at the Presidency.

“So there are many things I want to see cut, especially when we are going through very tough economic times. It is not the quantum of money you save by reducing the Ministries per se but it is the strong moral message you send to the country that you’re tightening your belt leading by example and that you mean what you say,” he added.

The NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries, scheduled for August and November 2023, will involve ten candidates.

An initial super delegate conference in August 2023 will narrow the field to five contenders, followed by the main primaries in November 2023 to select the party’s presidential nominee for the 2024 elections.

  • Your call for BoG Governor’s resignation is ‘baseless’ – NPP to NDC

Your call for BoG Governor’s resignation is ‘baseless’ – NPP to NDC

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has labeled the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) demand for the resignation of Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies as a reflection of the NDC’s lack of constructive solutions for economic stabilization.

The NDC had threatened to march to the Bank of Ghana’s premises and force Dr. Addison and his deputies to resign within 21 days, citing what it calls reckless management of the bank.

But speaking to the media, NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, dismissed the NDC’s stance as propaganda, asserting that the NDC was attempting to interfere with the central bank’s decisions.

Ahiagbah questioned, “Is the NDC trying to run the Bank of Ghana now? Is that the point they want to communicate to us, that the Bank of Ghana cannot make a decision until they refer to the NDC?”

He urged the NDC to focus on constructive matters, emphasizing the need to strengthen the ongoing economic recovery and growth trajectory.

Furthermore, Ahiagbah highlighted that the Bank of Ghana’s losses in its 2022 fiscal year are not unique to Ghana, citing similar occurrences in other central banks worldwide. He attributed these challenges to the global economic impact of events like COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

  • Desist from slamming NPP voters register – NPP to presidential hopefuls

Desist from slamming NPP voters register – NPP to presidential hopefuls

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has advised candidates seeking the presidential nomination to refrain from suggesting that the party’s electoral roll for the primaries lacks credibility.

Several aspirant campaign teams have voiced concerns, alleging errors in the register.

In an official statement dated August 7 and endorsed by William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee (EC), the NPP assured that the committee is working closely with presidential aspirants to rectify any errors.

The party emphasized its commitment not only to producing a credible Voter Register but also to ensuring a transparent, fair, and unbiased election process.

Acknowledging past disputes over electoral rolls, the NPP and the Presidential Elections Committee are actively taking measures to prevent such issues in the ongoing contest.

The party expressed dismay over anyone casting doubt on the register’s authenticity to the Ghanaian public.

The NPP reaffirmed its determination to deliver a credible Voter Register and to guarantee an equitable and transparent election process.

The party continues to welcome contributions from interested individuals and Party members to maintain these standards.

  • 6 NPP founders throw support behind Afriyie Akoto

6 NPP founders throw support behind Afriyie Akoto

Six out of the seven surviving founding fathers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region have wholeheartedly thrown their support behind Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto as the party’s most viable contender for the coveted flagbearer position.

Described as the ‘Big Six’ due to their substantial influence in contemporary Ghanaian politics, these elder statesmen visited Dr. Akoto at his residence in Danyame on August 5, 2023.

Led by Chairman Kofi Obiri Yeboah, they engaged with Dr. Akoto, delving into his vision for the party and the nation at large.

Their collective aim is to reignite unity within the party as they approach the 2024 general elections.

The esteemed members of this group include Akwasi Gyeabour Asante, William Asafu-Agyei, George Appiah, Nicholas Kofi Nyantakyi, and Peter Kwabena Anokye. The seventh member, Owusu Badu, sought permission from the Chairman to be absent.

The ‘Big Six’ expressed unwavering confidence in Dr. Akoto’s ability to steer both the NPP and Ghana, citing his exemplary track record within the party and his tenure as the Minister of Food and Agriculture under President Akufo-Addo.

This endorsement comes as part of Dr. Akoto’s campaign for the NPP flagbearer position. Similar endorsements have already been received from constituency chairpersons in the Greater Accra, Volta, and Central regions of the country.

Dr. Akoto expressed his elation and gratitude for the support shown by the Founding Fathers, emphasizing the significance of their backing. He highlighted his familial connection to the party’s origins and the role his father played in its formation.

“I am elated by the endorsement of the Founding Fathers of the NPP in the Ashanti Region. The promise that their votes will be for me come August 26, 2023 signifies the confidence they have reposed in me and I am very grateful to them for expressing such huge support for my candidature to bear the flag of the NPP”, he noted.

He added, “this show of support by the Founding Fathers is very significant to me because as you know the origin of the party started with the intervention of my father, Baffour Osei Akoto, who together with others, on the 19th of September, 1994 performed certain rites for the creation of the National Liberation Movement (NLM),made up of the Northern Peoples Party, led by the late S.G Dombo;the Togo Congress and others from the Anlo Youth Organisation and the Greater Accra region came together to form the United Party (UP) soon after independence in 1957.

Allen Gyimah, Deputy Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP and Coordinator for ‘Team Akoto’ in the Ashanti Region, underscored the party’s desire for effective leadership in the upcoming elections.

The resounding endorsement from the ‘Big Six’ further solidifies Dr. Akoto’s candidacy as he strives to lead the NPP into the 2024 general elections.

  • NDC is criticizing the economy because it lacks solutions – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lacks alternative strategies to counter the government’s economic revitalization policies.

He noted that NDC members have been disparaging the economy and negating its progress.

Ahiagbah added, “the NDC’s criticism of the economy arises from their inability to provide viable alternatives to challenge the government’s policy initiatives aimed at rejuvenating our economy. The economy has taken a positive turn, and it is imperative for Ghanaians to support the government in stabilizing it.”

It’s noteworthy that the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, challenged Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s claim that the economy had turned a corner.

Dr. Forson argued that the Finance Minister’s policies exacerbated Ghana’s economic difficulties.

Ofori-Atta, during the mid-year budget review presentation, shared that the government had successfully averted dire situations, such as shortages of essential items and fuel queues. He acknowledged the collective efforts and investments made since March 2020 to navigate challenges.

Responding to Dr. Forson’s statements, Ahiagbah criticized the NDC for intentionally deceiving the public and attempting to undermine the government’s popularity. He denounced their partisan approach and highlighted their lack of substantive ideas to address the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War.

Ahiagbah stated, “The NDC’s assertion that the mid-year fiscal revisions invalidate the notion of turning a corner is unfounded and should not be taken seriously. Their absence of constructive ideas is evident, and their strategy seems to be discrediting the government’s genuine efforts to mitigate pandemic and war-related economic impacts.”

He urged Ghanaians to recognize that if the NDC were in power, the country’s situation might have worsened due to their apparent dearth of innovative proposals.

He emphasized the need to assess the NDC’s contributions since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine War, highlighting their lack of original ideas to support economic recovery.

He further highlighted Bawumia’s impressive track record of competence and steadfast loyalty to the NPP as key reasons behind his endorsement.

  • NPP is the best choice for 2024, not NDC – Akufo-Addo

NPP is the best choice for 2024, not NDC – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exert their utmost efforts in securing victory for the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The foremost statesman emphasized that the party must not allow a recurrence of the setbacks suffered in 2008 to mar their prospects in 2024.

He stressed the importance of preventing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from assuming power in Ghana in the foreseeable future.

President Akufo-Addo underscored the need to learn from the past, particularly the period from 2009 to 2017 when the NDC, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, undermined the significant progress achieved during President John Agyekum Kufuor’s tenure.

“We are all witnesses to the derailing of the achievements chalked by President John Agyekum Kufuor by the successor NDC government, from 2009 to 2017, in which John Dramani Mahama featured so prominently,” the President noted.

“Under 8 years of the successor NDC government, we became famous for all the wrong reasons. Four successive years of dumsor, the mismanagement of the economy, wrong and dangerous energy contracts, and wanton corruption dissipated any hope the Ghanaian had for sustained economic development. Never again should we allow this to happen.”

“We are expending some of our energies hurling invectives at each other, instead of at our opponents, and, in the process, taking digs at our own Government. It has been an anxious time for all who love our party, and who see us as the party that can bring progress and prosperity to our nation,” he said.

He lamented, “During the successive eight years of the NDC administration, our reputation suffered due to consistent power outages, economic mismanagement, questionable energy agreements, and rampant corruption.

This eroded the optimism that Ghanaians held for sustainable economic advancement. We must never permit a repetition of such circumstances.”

The President acknowledged that internal conflicts had diverted energies towards internal disputes instead of uniting against external opponents, thereby inadvertently criticizing their own governance.

He expressed concern over the challenges that had surfaced within the party, noting the pivotal role of the NPP in driving the nation’s progress and prosperity.

President Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as both the head of state and de facto party leader, pledged to prevent the recurrence of past mistakes that contributed to the party’s loss in 2008.

He called for an internal campaign that transcends ethnic or religious considerations, highlighting the necessity of a united front in pursuing their political goals.

  • NPP School nearing completion

    NPP School nearing completion

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is nearing completion of the establishment of an institute that would serve as a breeding ground for its leaders by instilling the party’s traditions, philosophies, and ideals.

National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim unveiled the plans at the inaugural Mentorship Forum by the Youth Wing, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra on August 3, 2023.

The school’s mission is to mentor and train aspiring party and national leaders, providing leadership training, center-right values, and research aligned with the NPP’s vision.

Professor Mike Oquaye, former Speaker of Parliament, will chair the Governing Council, and Professor Bondzie Simpson, former Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), will serve as rector.

“The party school will primarily offer leadership training to members of the party who aspire to take up leadership positions in the party and in government. The school is also expected to produce credible and cutting-edge research intended to promote the party’s vision of building a free and prosperous society,” he stressed.

“Further, the school as part of its outstanding objectives will be committed to identifying and grooming students from our educational institutions like TESCON and imbibe in them the kind of leadership that resonates with the 21st century and also inculcate in them the core values of center-right orientation that underpins the NPP political establishment.”

“In effect, the party school shall to a large extent concern itself with teaching it’s members the party ideology, political and communication strategy, principles as well as the core values as well as principles of JB Danquah, Simeon Dombo and Kofi Abrefa Busia among others.

“It is envisaged that in the medium to long term, appointees and potential appointees in an NPP government as well as elected officers and appointees of the party at the national, regional, and constituency electoral areas and polling station levels would have received training at the party school”.

NPP aims to ensure that future government appointees, party officials, and leaders at all levels receive training at the NPP School, fostering a deep understanding of the party’s ideology and principles.

The Mentorship Forum, organized by the NPP National Youth Organizer’s office, creates a platform for NPP leaders to share expertise with TESCON and youth groups.

  • Alan’s campaign team detect anomalies in NPP register

Alan’s campaign team detect anomalies in NPP register

The campaign team of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Alan Kyerematen has expressed hope that the party’s Presidential Elections Committee and National Executive Council (NEC) will promptly address discrepancies in the special delegates conference register.

In an August 2 letter, the team identified five anomalies, including the eligibility of the Chief of Staff to vote in the super delegates’ conference on August 26.

Sylvester Tetteh, a member of Alan’s campaign team and MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, highlighted some of the obvious discrepancies.

He pointed out that the Chief of Staff, who is not an NEC member, was erroneously included. Tetteh also noted a duplication of the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairperson in the register.

Tetteh emphasized that former MPs are ineligible, only current members qualify. He further clarified that attending NEC meetings doesn’t confer eligibility, contrary to the party’s election regulations.

While awaiting NEC’s response, Tetteh expressed optimism that corrective measures will be taken.

“The Chief of Staff is not a member of the National Executive Committee, but she has been captured as a member, and we have drawn the attention of the elections committee to that correction. Additionally, the Ashanti Regional Second Vice Chairperson has been duplicated in the same album, and these are some of the things we are bringing to their attention.”

“Former members of parliament are not eligible, only sitting members are eligible, and also, the Chief of Staff may be invited to NEC meetings, but that does not make one eligible, and that is not correct in the regulation of elections of our party.”

“We are yet to get a response from NEC, but we are hopeful that they will do the right thing,” Mr. Tetteh added.

  • NPP must be ‘New Patapaa Party’ – Governs Agbodza mocks

NPP must be ‘New Patapaa Party’ – Governs Agbodza mocks

Minority Chief Whip, Governs Agbodza, during the debate on the mid-year budget review in Parliament, made a sarcastic recommendation to the adherents of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.

He suggested that they rename the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the “New Patapaa Party.”

Agbodza’s remark came in response to the Akufo-Addo government’s plan to fund the Accra-Tema Motorway project for a private entity to execute the work.

He heavily criticized NPP members for what he perceived as a lack of patriotism in their handling of the country’s affairs.

The Adaklu MP argued that the government’s conduct does not align with the party’s name.

He further chastised the government for borrowing heavily to contract a foreign company when local contractors are fully capable of handling the project.

Agbodza expressed strong disapproval of the government’s decision to borrow money that Ghanaians will have to repay and then use it to pay a foreign contractor.

He insisted that if the project is to be funded with Ghanaian money, it should be awarded to Ghanaian contractors, especially considering the outstanding debt owed to local contractors.

In conclusion, Agbodza used the humorously suggested name change to express his discontent with the government’s approach to the Accra-Tema Motorway project and its use of borrowed funds.

“They are telling us in this document that Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIFF) is going to fund Accra-Tema Motorway. So we will go and borrow money, put it in GIFF and let a foreign company come and do this job. We can guarantee you, we will never support you. What is the name of your party? New Patriotic Party, where is your patriotism? You better change that middle name to ‘patapaa’ because it has nothing to do with patriotism, when we advise you, you don’t listen.”

“How can you go and borrow money which Ghanaians will pay, and then you want to give that money to a foreigner? As for the Accra-Tema Motorway, if we are going to use our money, it must be done by Ghanaian contractors who you already owe GH¢15 billion. • Weak cedi reason Pokuase Housing project is priced in dollars – George Ayesi

Weak cedi reason Pokuase Housing project is priced in dollars – George Ayesi

The communications director of the National Disaster Management and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Ayesi, has justified why government has priced the Pokuase housing project in dollars.

According to him, the prices instills confidence in investors due to the stability of the currency, which contrasts with the uncertainties surrounding the local cedi.

President Akufo-Addo has launched a visionary project aimed at addressing the country’s significant housing deficit of approximately 2 million units.

The project entails the construction of 8,000 housing units to meet this pressing need.

To ensure transparency and attract investment, the government has disclosed the pricing of the houses in US dollars.

    The pricing is as follows:

    Studio apartment: $13,800
    One bedroom: $20,700
    Two bedroom: $34,500
    Three bedroom: $42,550

The government believes that pricing the houses in dollars will attract more investors, fostering collaboration and financial support for this ambitious project, as the dollar is a globally accepted and stable currency.

Despite the government’s enthusiasm for the Pokuase housing project, criticism has arisen from the public regarding its decision not to prioritize the completion of the Saglemi Housing project, which was initiated during the previous John Mahama administration.

The Pokuase project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will see the construction of 4,000 housing units, with completion expected within 18 months. The second phase, consisting of the remaining 4,000 units, is also projected to be completed within the same timeframe.

For the successful execution of the project, the government has partnered with five reputable Real Estate developers, namely Rehoboth Properties, State Housing Company Limited, Devtraco Group Limited, FrankPauls Ventures Company Limited, and Douja Promotion Addoha Groupe Limited.

These collaborative efforts will contribute to the realization of the 8,000 housing units and provide much-needed shelter for the people of Ghana.

  • NPP introduces new dues system for members

NPP introduces new dues system for members

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has introduced a new dues payment system for its members, which has been approved by the National Council.

Party Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, made the announcement during a press conference on Tuesday, revealing that the decision was reached at a meeting held on July 20, 2023.

The primary aim of this decision is to restructure the membership dues to strengthen the party’s financial position, enhance the membership drive, and improve the welfare of its members.

According to Chairman Ntim, the party’s constitution emphasizes the importance of paying dues and making donations to sustain and foster the party’s growth.

To be considered a member in good standing, it is required for party members to consistently fulfill their dues obligations.

The new membership dues structure has been designed to be more convenient, transparent, and efficient in terms of payment and accountability.

It incorporates an innovative technology that allows every member to easily and conveniently pay their dues by dialing 920270# and following the provided prompts.

The membership dues are now categorized as follows:

    Bronze category – ₵ 2.00 per month
    Silver Category – ₵ 5.00 per month
    Gold Category – ₵ 8.00 per month
    Platinum Category – ₵ 10.00 per month.

Apart from the membership dues, the party’s constitution also recognizes Patrons, who are individual party members that may choose to contribute significantly towards the party’s progress at various levels, including constituency, regional, and national.

The platform also enables the collection of contributions from all patrons at each level.

Chairman Ntim mentioned that further details about the new payment system will be communicated soon.

The party has also outlined several activities to raise awareness and sensitize party members regarding this new dues payment system.

In this regard, they call on the media to offer massive support to the party’s initiatives.

  • NPP volta organizer demands suspension of regional secretary

NPP volta organizer demands suspension of regional secretary

The Volta regional organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Korsi Bodja, has submitted a petition to the party’s national executives on July 3, urging the suspension of the NPP Volta Regional Secretary, Pope Yevu.

The petition alleges that Pope Yevu diverted campaign materials, including hair dryers, cutlasses, Wellington boots, head pans, fertilizers, and sewing machines, intended for distribution in Ewe communities during the recent Assin North by-election.

In the petition, Korsi Bodja invoked Article 3(7) of the party’s constitution, accusing Pope Yevu of gross misconduct as an elected officer and contravening various clauses of the party’s constitution related to the recent by-election campaign activities in Assin North Constituency.

The petition highlights that the campaign materials were meant to enhance the party’s electoral fortunes in Ewe communities.

However, it claims that Pope Yevu chose to retain these items in his hotel facility for personal interests instead of distributing them as intended.

According to Korsi Bodja, there is video evidence showing Pope Yevu secretly packing the hoarded campaign materials into his car on the morning of June 28, 2023, with the assistance of the Deputy Volta Regional Organizer, who also provided a pickup vehicle for transporting the items to the region.

Read below the petition by the NPP Volta regional organiser to the General Secretary:

    REGIONAL ORGANIZER,

    NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY,

    VOLTA REGIONAL OFFICE,

    HO – V/R.

    3RD JULY, 2023.

    THE GENERAL SECRETARY

    NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY

    NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS

    ACCRA

    Dear Sir,

PETITION TO SUSPEND THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY VOLTA REGIONAL SECRETARY FOR DIVERSION OF CAMPAIGN MATERIALS FOR PRIVATE USE.

I write to invoke Article 3(7) of the party’s constitution for the suspension of the New Patriotic Party’s Volta Regional Secretary, Mr. Pope Yevu for gross misconduct against the party as an elected officer, contravening Article 3 Clauses 1,3,4,5 and 6 of the party’s constitution, in the recent by-election campaign activities held at Assin North Constituency where the Volta Regional Secretary was caught diverting campaign material meant for the said by-election.

In the said by-election, the New Patriotic Party Volta Regional Executives and other constituency executives were expected to enhance the party’s electoral fortunes by intensifying the campaign in the Ewe communities within the Assin North Constituency. As a result, campaign materials including hairdryers, cutlasses, Wellington boots, head pans, Fertilizers and sewing machines were handed over to the region to help meet the demand of the electorate in the Ewe communities during the campaign. However, it turned out that, while there was indeed, high demand for the said campaign materials within communities where we campaigned, the Volta Regional Secretary decided to keep such items in his hotel facility and diverted the same for his parochial interest.

From the video footage available for your view, the Volta Regional Secretary is visibly seen at the dawn of 28th June 2023, at about 3: 58am, a day after the by-election in Assin North, secretly packing out the hoarded items for the campaign into his car with the support of the Deputy Volta Regional Organizer who had also brought a pickup vehicle for the conveyance of same items to their region.

It must be stated that this act of irresponsible conduct and disloyalty to the party’s collective cause for which we went to Assin North to canvass for vote for the party’s victory in the by-election was a major factor in the apathy that reared its ugly head in the Ewe communities in Assin North Constituency. In fact, the conduct of the Volta Regional Secretary also contravenes Article 3 Clause 6 of the party’s constitution, which calls for members to participate fully in the activities of the party and ensure that the local organs of the party work effectively and accountably.

It indeed beggars belief that the Volta Regional Secretary of our party could be that mean and act in ways that do not promote the good name of the party, as the act was orchestrated before the right-thinking members of the hotel community, subjecting the New Patriotic Party to open mockery and negative branding.

If the Volta Regional Secretary is able to oversee the stealing of campaign materials far away Assin North to his home region, what will he not do if he gets hold of the same materials in his home region?

It is sad to note that even on the day of voting, persons who were promised such campaign materials called our team for the same to be brought to them, but to no avail. This indeed lowered the integrity of my team, which went around canvassing for vote in the Ewe communities. The Regional Secretary should be explaining what benefit there is to get from hoarding campaign materials meant for the electorate and losing by-elections in communities that were in one way or the other avoidable.

As a regional secretary, he owes it a duty to effectively and selflessly rally members of the party around a collective cause and sole objective of winning elections in any given contest and not engage in activities that would negatively affect the party’s chances in any election, whether in his home region or elsewhere. This conduct of his, therefore, makes him not fit for the position and I foresee disaster in the greater task of the election 2024 where the party has an agenda of breaking the eight-year cycle of governance in our country.

I therefore wish to crave your indulgence to as a matter of urgency treat this petition with the seriousness it deserves to save our party from any looming danger in the not-distant future.

I count on your usual cooperation.

    Thank you.

    Korsi Bodja

  • NPP has benefited from Cecilia Dapaah’s resignation – IMANI Africa

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has lauded the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, for her sacrifice in resigning amid the stolen money scandal, stating that she safeguarded the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from potential embarrassment.

Concerns have been raised by various groups regarding the origin and intended use of the US$1 million, €300,000, and unspecified amounts of Ghanaian cedis allegedly stolen from Ms. Dapaah’s residence.

Reports circulated about two house helps facing court charges for supposedly stealing significant sums of money and personal belongings from the former minister and her husband.

As a result of the incident, Madam Dapaah chose to step down from her ministerial position and was later arrested by the Special Prosecutor.

Her two residential properties were searched before she was granted bail.

During an interview with the media, Mr. Cudjoe expressed his belief that her decision to resign was not only in her own interest but also a sacrifice for the entire party.

He empathized with the potential damage she could have faced due to the circulating information, emphasizing the human aspect of such situations, especially if she had not committed any wrongdoing.

Mr. Cudjoe commended the former minister for her honorable resignation and acknowledged that external pressures might have influenced her decision.

He recognized her efforts to preserve a sense of sanity amidst ongoing investigations, concluding that her resignation was well-received, and he holds no fault against her for making that choice.

“When matters of this kind happen, the damage you are likely to suffer due to the information that is out there, if you don’t take care, you could break down. We are humans, especially if it’s really the case that you haven’t done anything wrong.”

“Maybe some pressures made her resign. Ultimately, she made the decision that she could save some sanity, for now, while investigations continue. Her decision to resign was welcomed. I don’t fault her.”

Buaben Asamoa explains why Alan Cash postponed Ashanti campaign

The spokesperson for the Alan Kyerematen campaign team, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has provided an explanation for the decision to put on hold the campaign trip of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant to the Ashanti Region.

According to Mr. Asamoa, the postponement was deemed necessary due to other essential government and parliamentary activities scheduled for that period.

Specifically, the decision was made to avoid interfering with public interest in the mid-year budget review, which is set to be delivered to Parliament on Monday, July 31.

He highlighted the significance of the budget review, as it is the first since Ghana entered the IMF program.

The review will assess whether the country is making progress, remaining static, or experiencing setbacks in its economic development.

“The Minister of Finance is slated to deliver the mid-year budget review to Parliament. That budget review, the first since we entered the IMF programme, will tell us whether we are making progress, we are static or we are retrogressing.

Given the importance of this event for the entire nation, the campaign team did not want their activities to compete for media attention during that week.

Mr. Asamoa stressed the significance of the budget review for Mr. Kyerematen’s campaign and his chances of winning the 2024 polls.

The team is conscious of the fact that the state of the nation’s economy will play a crucial role in the 2024 election’s outcome.

Therefore, they are keen on aligning their campaign with Mr. Kyerematen’s great transformational plan, which aims to build the economy following the IMF stabilisation period, focusing on a stable and sound macroeconomic environment.

The mid-year budget review is expected to prioritize policies aimed at securing economic stability and fostering growth.

It will also encompass several reforms, including the Post-CoVID-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG), which aims to improve institutions and controls in the country.

Other areas targeted for enhancements include expenditure commitment control and arrears clearance, debt management, governance, tax policy, tax administration, energy sector reforms, and cocoa sector reforms.

I will silence regional minister by building factories in Savannah – Kennedy Agyapong

An aspiring presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament (MP) representing Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has assured the Savannah Regional Minister, Saeed Jibril, that he intends to silence his critics by establishing factories in the region.

During an interview with the media on July 24, 2023, he emphasized that Saeed Jibril’s background as a former classroom teacher is different from the realm of politics, and he will overlook the insults directed at him.

Notably, after Kennedy Agyapong’s visit to Damongo, the Savannah Regional Minister urged NPP delegates across the region to vote for a candidate who differs from John Dramani to lead the party in the 2024 elections and avoid supporting radicals who engage in a spree of insults.

Saeed Muhazu Jibril criticized the campaign tactics employed by Kennedy Agyapong and the former NPP general secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, for their disrespectful remarks targeting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which he believed would harm the NPP.

Speaking with the media on July 19, 2023, Saeed Jibril stressed that all campaigns should focus on the party’s achievements, rather than speaking against the very party they seek to lead. He regarded those resorting to insults as unpatriotic and unfit to lead the party.

In response to the comments made by the Savannah Regional Minister, Kennedy Agyapong, during his interview on Wa-based Home Radio, stated that speaking the truth often makes one a target, and he has endured insults while conveying his message.

Kennedy Agyapong expressed his frustration, noting that he refrains from responding to insults for a while, but when he eventually does, it becomes an issue for the party. He considered this treatment unfair.

Furthermore, Kennedy Agyapong shared that despite receiving insults, he chooses to ignore them and provided examples of his achievements. He mentioned plans to construct factories in Savannah to showcase his endeavors.

He also highlighted his significant contributions, such as building the largest cold store facility in Africa, amounting to thirty-one thousand tonnes, all accomplished without any loans or debts to banks.

Kennedy Agyapong emphasized that his accomplishments were beyond the scope of classroom work, urging others to appreciate his efforts and contributions.

    FLASHBACK: Kennedy Agyapong lauds Bawumia

An old video featuring presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has surfaced, where he is seen showering praises on the brilliance of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Kennedy Agyapong, who is vying for the NPP flagbearer position along with nine other aspirants for the upcoming elections, had predominantly centered his campaign on criticizing the Vice President.

However, last week, after indirectly criticizing Dr. Bawumia for the recent depreciation of the Cedi, an old video resurfaced, displaying Kennedy Agyapong absolving Dr. Bawumia of blame.

As the Assin North MP intensifies his campaign, another throwback video has emerged, where he lauds the performance of Vice Presidents in the 4th Republic.

In the video, Kennedy Agyapong discusses the effectiveness of Vice Presidents under various regimes and highlights Dr. Bawumia’s exceptional brilliance and capabilities.

He attributes this effectiveness to both Dr. Bawumia’s natural abilities and the leadership style of President Akufo-Addo, which has allowed him to shine.

“I want Ghanaians to understand that it is not every President that allows their Vice Presidents to shine. It is Akufo-Addo’s style of government managing the country that has allowed the Vice President,” said Kennedy Agyepong in 2021.

He added: “But Dr Bawumia himself is naturally good. If he was like Mahama, he would have been ineffective.”

In the 2021 video, Kennedy Agyapong emphasizes that not all Presidents give their Vice Presidents the opportunity to excel, but President Akufo-Addo’s management style has allowed Dr. Bawumia to showcase his brilliance.

He further contrasts Dr. Bawumia’s competence with that of former Vice President Mahama, suggesting that the latter might have been less effective in a similar role.

These videos showcasing Kennedy Agyapong praising Vice President Bawumia and acknowledging his competence stand in stark contrast to his recent campaign messages, which have been critical of the Vice President.

NPP must consider Wontumi as running mate to win 2024 election – Lecturer

A lecturer from Luton University’s Department of African Studies has proposed that Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) consider selecting a prominent figure like Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, as their running mate for the upcoming elections.

Dr. Effah Eghan believes that Wontumi’s popularity extends beyond regional or ethnic boundaries, making him a potential catalyst for the NPP’s victory.

Dr. Eghan emphasized that Ghana‘s political landscape has evolved significantly, with popularity and national acceptance playing a crucial role in determining political success. While acknowledging that his suggestion might be controversial to some, he urged people to objectively reflect on the idea.

“Chairman Wontumi and figures like him are now leading the political pack, wielding influence that can sway votes in favor of their parties,” Dr. Effah argued.

Drawing on his expertise in African political dynamics and election studies, Dr. Effah highlighted Chairman Wontumi’s significant impact across the country’s social fabric since entering politics. He asserted that Wontumi’s widespread popularity in both the northern and southern regions, along with his ability to connect with grassroots communities, make him an ideal candidate for the crucial role of NPP’s running mate.

You should pray NPP forever retains power – Raymond Archer to McDan

A businessman who had his multi-million dollar company demolished years ago, Raymond Archer, has offered an advice to the Board Chair of the Ghana Trade Fair Company, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan.

Speaking to the media, he suggested that McDan should pray for his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to remain in power indefinitely.

Archer’s remark came after he was asked about McDan’s comment on Ghanaian youth being lazy.

In response, Archer highlighted his concerns about the dangers that might lie ahead if the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were to win the 2024 general elections.

The businessman accuses the NPP of targeting businesses belonging to NDC supporters when in power, leading to their collapse.

He alleged that businesses of NPP supporters, including the McDan Group, will receive preferential treatment and thrive under the party’s rule.

“Now, he has the McDan Group…a whole lagoon; natural resource was seized and given to him and all those people who lived on that lagoon and I understand about 4,000, 5,000 livelihoods have been taken and given to one man…he is building his empire whiles trampling on other people is who they are and what they have always done,” he stated.

Mr Archer mentions the demolition of his companies, Universal Labels and Packaging Co. Ltd (UNIPACK) and Colour Planet Limited, during the redevelopment project at the Trade Fair Center. He claims that the demolition took place despite a court injunction, and he acquired the property legally, rendering the actions of the authorities unjustifiable.

In particular, Archer points to the case of McDan, whose group allegedly acquired a lagoon and displaced thousands of livelihoods to build their empire, while disregarding the impact on others.

Given this backdrop, Archer advises McDan to be cautious about the potential consequences if the NDC comes to power, implying that his business success may be influenced by the ruling party in office.

  • Female MPs seek funds to retain seats in Parliament

Female MPs seek funds to retain seats in Parliament

Some female Members of Parliament (MPs) are calling for financial assistance from various civil society organizations and stakeholders to effectively fulfill their constituency duties.

They believe that such support would contribute to retaining the majority of female MPs and promote gender parity in politics.

According to the 2021 Population and Housing Census, Ghana has a higher female population, accounting for 50.7 percent of the total population, while males constitute 49.3 percent.

However, within the 8th Parliament, both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have 20 female members each, totaling 40 out of 275 MPs.

During recent NDC primaries, three female MPs lost their bids to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Expressing their concerns during a breakfast meeting organized by the Parliamentary Network Africa, Members of Parliament Patricia Appiagyei, Betty Krosbi Mensah, and Sheila Bartels called for financial support to retain their seats.

“It is very important that if we are working with the CSOs, wherever you are getting your funding from, it is critical that you appreciate the challenges we have in ensuring that we are servicing our constituencies and support us especially even during our primaries. What do you do to support and ensure that we retain our numbers and be able to even appreciate the numbers that we have in Parliament?”

Patricia Appiagyei stressed the importance of recognizing the challenges MPs face while serving their constituencies, especially during primaries, and urged the civil society organizations (CSOs) to offer necessary support.

Betty Krosbi Mensah, representing Afram Plains North, highlighted the limited resources available to MPs, making it difficult to effectively represent their constituencies.

Sheila Bartels, MP for Ablekuma North, emphasized that empowering women in Parliament would encourage more women to seek these positions.

She expressed concerns about women in politics not getting the same support as their male counterparts and urged for equitable financing opportunities.

The financial support sought by these female MPs aims to ensure they can continue their parliamentary roles effectively and pave the way for greater gender representation in Ghanaian politics.

Money in Cecilia Dapaah’s possession are from funeral donations – NPP communicator

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, Clement Wilkinson, has made an audacious claim regarding the millions of dollars and pounds found in the home of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.

He suggested that the funds could be unaccounted donations received at recent funerals, including those of her brother and mother.

According to Wilkinson, the company that dredged the Odaw River might have contributed to the donations, as they received a significant amount for their services.

“The company which received $43 million dollars to dredge the Odaw river could have given Cecilia Dapaah $2 million dollars in funeral donation. You know Until the family meets to look at the entire donation, it would not be touched. It could be the reason the money was at her home”

Former Deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Fosu shared parts of the video on Twitter, expressing shock at the NPP communicator’s explanation.

The minister’s domestic staff is accused of stealing substantial amounts of money, jewelry, and clothing from her home.

Under pressure from various groups, including the minority, civil society organizations, and anti-corruption groups, the minister is still in her post, but calls for her resignation or removal by the President persist.

Cecilia Dapaah must be sacked for keeping over $1m at home – NDC MPs

Certain members of the Minority Members of Parliament have expressed their view that Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, acted unlawfully by keeping significant amounts of money in her house, which has allegedly been stolen by her house helps.

The Minister and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, were reportedly robbed by two of their house helps, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, between July and October 2022.

The house helps have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing, involving large sums of money in different currencies and valuable items.

Three other individuals, including a plumber, a trader, and an unemployed person, have also been charged for dishonestly receiving stolen funds.

The accused allegedly used the stolen money to finance various purchases and properties.

In court, one of the house helps, Sarah Agyei, was granted bail, and the case has been scheduled for further investigation.

Speaking in parliament the Member of Parliament for Bole Bamboi, , Yussif Sulemana, called on President Akufo-Addo to immediately dismiss the Minister while investigations into the source and legitimacy of the money take place.

He emphasized that such actions would demonstrate a commitment to fighting corruption within the government.

The NDC MP for the Kumbungu constituency, Hamza Adam, also expressed shock at the situation, stating that if proven true, the Minister’s possession of such large sums of money at her residence would be unlawful.

Both MPs have demanded a thorough investigation to ascertain the origin of the funds and appropriate legal actions to be taken.

Following the recent revelations of construction lapses in the dams built under the ‘One Village, One Dam’ policy by the governing New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Minority MPs have strongly criticized the initiative, labelling it a mere political gimmick.

They argue that the policy was hastily implemented without proper consideration.

The criticism from the Minority MPs comes in the wake of JoyNews’ documentary, titled ‘Thirsty Dams,’ which exposed the poor condition of the dams constructed during the Akufo-Addo government’s tenure.

Among those expressing their concerns was Samson Ahi, the NDC MP for Bodi Constituency in the Western North Region.

According to Mr. Ahi, the ‘One Village, One Dam’ policy lacked careful planning and was primarily used as a propaganda tool to deceive the Ghanaian public.

He pointed out that despite the government’s claims of having built dams, many of them were unable to retain water even during the rainy season, indicating poor execution.

Furthermore, the MPs accused the NPP government of prioritizing fulfilling a manifesto promise over the well-being of the communities affected by the dams. They emphasized that the policy’s rushed implementation led to subpar construction, causing ongoing challenges with water supply in those areas.

Henry Yiadom Boakye, the NDC MP for Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region, echoed these concerns, highlighting the failure of the dams to deliver on their promised benefits.

He lamented that despite significant financial investments exceeding 200 million, the project failed to provide any meaningful returns or benefits to the communities.

The MPs argued that such resources could have been better utilized in other sectors like education, instead of being wasted on a project that did not meet its intended objectives.

They concluded that the evidence presented in the documentary reinforces their initial opposition to the ‘One Village, One Dam’ policy and calls for a more responsible approach to infrastructure development in the future.

NPP flagbearer race: Petition to centralise Special Delegates Conference dismissed

On Thursday, July 20, the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held a crucial meeting at the Alisa Hotel and unanimously rejected a petition from nine aspirants seeking a centralized venue for the party’s Special Delegates Conference.

The petitioners wanted the number of presidential aspirants, currently scheduled for Saturday, August 26, to be reduced to a central location.

The National Council cited the party’s constitution and a precedent set in 2014 as crucial factors that needed to be respected.

The General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, addressed journalists and announced that the NPP would proceed with its initially planned decentralization for the election.

The NPP’s constitution states that if there are more than five aspirants after the nomination and vetting process, a special delegates college should be held to reduce the number of candidates to five. The vetting committee had submitted their recommendations to the National Council, which was unanimously approved.

The nine flagbearer hopefuls, excluding Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, argued that a centralized election would be more efficient and transparent. They were not in favor of the plan to limit the voting to only 900 delegates at the regional level.

Despite their arguments, the National Council, which is the second highest decision-making body of the party, did not support their petition. As a result, the NPP will proceed with its plan to trim the list of presidential aspirants from ten to five on August 26, in accordance with its constitution.

Before the election, the party stated that a new register would be necessary to remove the names of delegates who have passed away or are no longer available to participate. General Secretary Justin Koduah assured that the new register would be finalized by the end of the week, and it would comprise between 900 and 1,000 delegates. This registration process aims to ensure a fair and accurate electoral college for the special delegates’ election.

NPP to compile new register for special delegates’ congress

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is preparing a new register for its August 26th special delegates’ congress.

The party is creating this new register because some of the delegates have passed away.

According to the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong Koduah, the compilation is in its final stages. The special electoral college will consist of around 900 to 1000 delegates.

He explained, “Some of the founding members have died, so we have to take their names out. We also have to look at past national officers. I am sure before the week ends we should have the final list for the special delegates’ election.”

Furthermore, the NPP’s national executive council has instructed all regional executives to stop charging unapproved fees from parliamentary aspirants.

While recognizing the positive intentions, the party emphasized that only the national executive committee has the authority to issue such charges.

The regional committees were directed to halt these charges immediately and await approval from the National Executive Committee as per the Party’s constitution.

“While the national executive body acknowledges and appreciates the otherwise good intentions behind these decisions, you are hereby reminded that directives governing the conduct of elections of the Party can only be issued by the National Executive Committee, the appropriate body constitutionally mandated to do so.

“Accordingly, all Regional Executive Committees are, by this letter, directed to cease forthwith, the issuance of any directives on the conduct of parliamentary primaries unless and until same have been approved by the National Executive Committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Party.”
