    Akufo-Addo, Ken Ofori-Atta have destroyed NPP -A-Plus

Entertainment pundit and politician Kwame Asare Obeng, better known as A-Plus, has voiced concerns about the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) diminishing identity.

During an interview on Angel FM, he remarked that the party has become a subject of public ridicule and lamented the lack of ambition among some of its members to enhance its image.

A Plus directly criticised prominent figures within the NPP, including Akufo-Addo and Ken Ofori-Attah, attributing to them the responsibility for the party’s current state.

He accused certain members of prioritising personal interests over the party’s reputation, especially when facing criticism.
Comparing the NPP unfavourably to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), A Plus asserted that the NDC exhibits greater unity and coherence within its ranks.

“Some NPP members are not serious. Infact Akufo-Addo and Ken Ofori-Attah have made the party unrecognizable. They have destroyed the party,” A-Plus stated.

NPP to secure victory in Ejisu by-election with a notable lead – Nana B

The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), has expressed utmost confidence in the party’s prospects for success in the upcoming by-election in Ejisu, foreseeing a substantial victory margin.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Boakye, commonly referred to as Nana B, dismissed a recent poll conducted by Info-Analytics, which suggests an NPP victory but by a narrow margin.

He criticized the organization and implied a lack of credibility in its work, stating, “Their polls look like somebody sitting in his living room and conjuring some figures and throwing them out there. We have a credible source and I am saying that we’re going to win with a clear margin.”

Responding to this criticism on the same program, the Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mussa Dankwah, defended the credibility of their polls.

Mr Dankwah emphasized their organization’s widespread recognition both nationally and internationally for the reliability and accuracy of their polling data.

“The whole country knows we are credible, the whole world knows that we are credible. Despite discrediting us publicly, our poll is what they read every night. It’s a statement they make a lot so I am not surprised.”

He further underscored the importance of voter turnout in shaping the election outcome, emphasizing that the victorious party would likely be the one capable of effectively mobilizing its supporters.

“This election is not going to be a walk in the park. And whoever will win, it will depend on turnout. The competitor who can convince his supporters to come out and vote will most likely have it.”

  • NPP’s win in Ejisu by-election crucial for Bawumia victory in 2024 elections – Ahiagbah

NPP’s win in Ejisu by-election crucial for Bawumia victory in 2024 elections – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has conveyed his confidence in the NPP candidate, Kwabena Boateng, securing victory in the Ejisu by-election.

In a recent social media post on Tuesday, April 30, Ahiagbah urged the people of Ejisu to overwhelmingly support Boateng at the polls.

He stressed that a triumph for the NPP in the by-election would not only honor the late Dr. John Kumah but also symbolize the success of Vice President Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming December 7th elections.

“Good people of Ejisu will make a statement today by voting massively for Kwabena Boateng, #2 on the ballot. A victory for the NPP in this by-election will not only honor the memory of Dr John Kumah but also signal the triumph of Bawumia and the NPP on December 7th. Let’s join hands and work towards a landslide victory for the NPP… It’s possible.”

Currently, voting is ongoing across all 204 polling centers in Ejisu to elect a successor for the former MP and Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, who passed away on March 7, 2024.

Six candidates, including three independent candidates, are competing in the by-election, with an expected participation of 106,812 voters.

Notably, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, is running as an Independent Candidate in the by-election.

Despite facing allegations of betrayal, Aduomi remains optimistic about his chances of winning the election and representing Ejisu once again.

NPP’s future hangs in the balance with Ejisu by-election – Prof Kobby Mensah

Political Marketing Strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah, has analyzed the electoral atmosphere in Ejisu, suggesting it’s not favoring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming by-election.

He highlighted independent candidates, particularly Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, as posing a significant challenge to the NPP’s prospects in the election.

Speaking on the Ghana Tonight show on TV3, Professor Kobby Mensah stated, “Losing would be a severe blow to the NPP.”

“If you look at Fomena for example, the president had been there and talked about the idea that they don’t want to have anything to do with the independent candidate and yet the independent candidate won against the party’s choice.”

He referenced the victory of an independent candidate in Fomena despite the president’s opposition, indicating the potential for a similar outcome in Ejisu.

Over 100,000 voters are casting their ballots today (April 30, 2024) to determine the successor of the late Dr. John Kumah as the representative of the Ejisu Constituency in Parliament.

Six candidates are vying for the seat, including former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, now running as an independent candidate, and Kwabena Boateng from the NPP.

The Electoral Commission (EC) assured the public of a fair and transparent voting process in response to allegations of ballot stuffing.

The EC emphasized the impossibility of such actions given the transparent nature of the ballot boxes and pledged a thorough count in the presence of all stakeholders after polls close.

Benjamin Bannor-Bio, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, urged candidates to deploy vigilant agents to monitor the process effectively.

EC officials further assured that there would be no delays across the 204 polling stations.

“The time the allegation was made, we had not even started printing the ballot. How then can someone stuff the ballot boxes. And how is that even going to be done? Because our ballot box is transparent, and we open it before we start voting.

“The candidate should also trust the system and provide agents who are very effective, know the processes and can defend their rights. It’s not just bringing anyone who is loud, but can’t differentiate between 69 and 96”, he advised the contesting candidates.

Prof Jane Naana’s track record lacks significant achievements – Eric Twum

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, Eric Twum, has asserted that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer’s running mate, lacks notable achievements from her tenure as Minister of Education.

Speaking to Selorm Adonoo on The Big Issue aired on Citi FM and Citi TV, Twum claimed that the NDC is averse to subjecting Prof. Opoku-Agyemang to scrutiny due to her perceived lack of accomplishments in political leadership.

He contended that a comparison of her time as Minister of Education with the current state of education would reveal minimal progress that stakeholders can attest to.

“Given the political platform, she has been a Minister of Education before and has also been chosen as a running mate before, so there is a lot to interrogate but the challenge I have with the NDC is that it is almost as if she is supposed to be absolved from and taken out of any kind of interrogation.

“You saw her stewardship as a Minister of Education and what is it that she can point out as her record? If you do a comparative analysis of education under her watch and now, the stakeholders will attest to a different educational system as stakeholders.”

NPP may lose 2024 elections due to ongoing dumsor – Political Analyst

A political and social analyst who also lectures at the University of Cape Coast, Jonathan Asante Otchere, has forecasted that the current intermittent power outages will have a detrimental impact on the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7, 2024 general elections.

Speaking on Connect FM’s Kokromotsir Political Program with host Wofa Ato Koomson on Thursday, April 25, Dr. Otchere stressed the significance of energy-related issues in influencing voters’ choices.

He pointed out that in 2016, during the tenure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NPP capitalized on ‘dumsor’ as a major campaign issue, leading to the defeat of the former.

Dr. Otchere noted that history appears to be repeating itself, using the Akan proverb “Abaa yedi bo Takyi no, ye di bo Baah,” which translates to “The cane used on Takyi is also used on Baah,” to illustrate the situation.

He emphasized that the ongoing energy crisis will be a crucial factor for voters in the upcoming elections and will significantly impact the NPP’s electoral prospects.

Dr. Otchere recounted incidents at the UCC campus where students had to endure uncomfortable heat during exams due to power outages, highlighting the stress it caused.

Additionally, he shared his personal experience of having to sleep in his car due to power outages, stating, “Last week I slept in my car for hours before going home in the night because of ‘dumsor,’ because the kind of heat we are enduring today is unbearable.”

Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere emphasized that voters prioritize factors such as the economy, infrastructure development, high inflation rates, and corruption when casting their votes, and these factors will be evident in the December elections.

Ejisu seat likely to be retained by NPP but not on easy grounds – Global InfoAnalytics

Global InfoAnalytics suggests that while the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to retain the Ejisu seat, victory may not be straightforward for their candidate, Kwabena Boateng.

The by-election follows the passing of Ejisu’s Member of Parliament, John Ampontuah Kumah, leading to a closely contested race between Kwabena Boateng and former MP for the area, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

Despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) opting out of the race, the dynamics remain intriguing.

Executive Director and Head of Polls for Global InfoAnalytics, Musah Dankwah, revealed on Citi TV that Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, supported by the NDC, poses a significant threat to the NPP’s candidate.

The latest polling data shows Kwabena Boateng leading narrowly with 50.6% of the votes, while Kwabena Owusu Aduomi trails closely behind at 47.5%.

“The polls are shocking, indeed very shocking, currently, the NPP is leading by a whisker, less than a margin of error, 50.6% lead in the poll. They are not losing the seat but leading by a margin of error. The lead is not comfortable.

“Kwabena Owusu Aduomi 47.5%. This race is too close to call. What we have seen is that the NPP again is divided, about 64% of NPP voters are voting for their own.

“About 34% are voting for Aduomi. Aduomi is getting 66% of the support from floating voters and he’s getting 92% of NDC support, and 95% of other party supporters. The only advantage the NPP has is that they are leading amongst their own, other than that Aduomi is leading across the board.

“It would have been different if Aduomi hadn’t contested, he’s a threat. NDC guys are rallying behind Aduomi and that is proving very deadly,” he is quoted to have said.

The polls reveal a divided NPP electorate, with approximately 64% supporting their candidate, Kwabena Boateng.

Meanwhile, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi enjoys strong backing from floating voters, as well as overwhelming support from NDC loyalists and other party supporters.

The Electoral Commission has set April 30, 2024, for the by-election.

Ampong emphasized that regardless of whether he releases political songs this year, his support for the NPP remains unwavering.

“Whether I choose to release a political song this year or not, my allegiance to the NPP remains steadfast,” he said.

He also emphasized the importance of staying authentic in both artistic expression and political beliefs.

I couldn’t stop the demolishing of my house because I have no power – Ken Agyapong’s brother

A financier of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Oti Bonsu, has spoken out about the demolition of his property in Adjiriganor, an Accra suburb, amid a land dispute involving the family of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia.

During a press conference held this week at the demolition site, which occurred in the first week of April, Bonsu expressed his frustration at the unjust destruction of his investment, despite court orders to the contrary.

He attributed the issue to the close ties of those involved to positions of power, insinuating that this influenced the outcome.

Mr Bonsu recounted his attempts to resolve the matter with the Ramadan family, who contest ownership of the land with him, but lamented that his appeals went unheeded.

“Abu Ramadan and the Second Lady, I sent a delegation to them asking them to take the facility (as a gift), I did all it takes including approaching President Kufuor who dispatched Fred Oware to look into the matter.

“But Abu Ramadan insisted that his father bought the parcel during his days as a police and they needed it demolished to build a family house. I asked that they share the houses instead of demolishing them but this is what power can do.

“This can happen to anyone and National Security has yet to bring them (demolishing party) to book. I took every necessary step but what power can do is what has played out,” he lamented.

Highlighting his legitimate acquisition of the land from the three families who are its legal custodians, Oti Bonsu challenged the opposing party to produce similar evidence.

The demolition was brought to light through a social media post by Ken Agyapong’s son, accompanied by a video captioned

Your running mate decision should not be interfered – Group tells Bawumia

A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives, grassroots members, and supporters advocating for the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has issued a passionate plea for his autonomy in selecting his running mate without undue influence.

Named the Patriotic Movement for Bawumia, the group urged Dr. Bawumia to resist external pressures from various party factions pushing for their preferred candidates as his running mate.

According to a report from Dailyguidenetwork.com, during a press conference in Kumasi, the group criticized certain party factions’ activities and tactics, including press conferences, persistent delegations to Dr. Bawumia, petitions, and threatening remarks in the media.

They stressed that such actions undermine Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and autonomy, suggesting a lack of confidence in his ability to independently decide on his running mate.

“We are advising our flag-bearer, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia not to succumb to any individual or group pressure to select a running mate against his own choice,” the group stated.

They warned against manipulating Dr. Bawumia into choosing a running mate based on narrow interests, highlighting the potential negative impact on the party’s electoral prospects.

The group emphasized the importance of unity within the NPP and cautioned against the risks of disunity and long-standing divisions within the party if external pressures influence Dr. Bawumia’s decision-making process.

They urged party members not to use tactics aimed at imposing a candidate on Dr. Bawumia, stressing that selecting a running mate is solely the prerogative of the flagbearer.

Regarding recent endorsements for specific individuals as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, the group urged Dr. Bawumia to disregard such endorsements, highlighting his autonomy and leadership role within the party.

They reiterated their support for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and called for unity and collaboration within the NPP to secure victory in the upcoming presidential election.

“We are humbly advising our flag-bearer, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia not to allow any individual or groups to compel or lure him into choosing a running mate against his actual or real choice.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ‘is his own man,’ let us allow him to select someone he has tested and finds capable of helping him lead the NPP to break the eight,” the group declared.

The Nationwide Supporters of Alan Cash (NAWSAC) have strongly condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly trying to sway young people from their allegiance to Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change by offering financial incentives.

In a statement issued on Monday, April 22, 2024, NAWSAC expressed deep concern over what they perceive as the NPP’s unethical tactics and urged the youth not to succumb to monetary inducements.

Luther-King Junior, the group’s convener, underscored the disillusionment of young people with both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to what they view as manipulative conduct.

He reiterated their unwavering support for Alan Kyerematen’s leadership.

The group also criticized the NPP’s apparent belief that monetary incentives could sway young people, labeling it as a misguided approach and a source of ridicule.

NAWSAC emphasized that young people will no longer tolerate being taken for granted by the NPP and NDC.

They urged those who rely on financial inducements in politics to acknowledge their shortsightedness and recognize that their efforts, such as poster campaigns and loud demonstrations, are insufficient to undermine the youth’s resolve for change.

Akufo-Addo is the Moses of our time – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has likened president Akufo-Addo as Moses in the Bible.

Speaking to the media he indicated Akufo-Addo’s vision and mission is to catapult Ghana into a better place, thus the promised land, like the days of the Israelites.

However, certain hurdles like the Covid-19, Russia – Ukraine war and Israel-Palestine Iraq war have hindered president Akufo-Addo’s motives and aspirations.

“Everyone will see that Akufo-Addo has served well. It is sad that Akufo-Addo has now become where he had wanted to take us due to some circumstances like “Covid-19”, “Russia – Ukraine war”, “Israel-Palestine Iraq war”.

According to him, for Akufo-Addo to make amends he has tasked the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who represents Joshua in the scriptures to lead the country to an expected end.

He added that Bawumia’s running mate will be capable and supportive enough to aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) securing a third term as well as drive the country to its destination.

“Therefore Moses Akufo-Addo has handed the rod to Joshua Bawumia. When Bawumia’s running mate is unveiled that person will become Caleb to support Joshua Bawumia for Ghanaians to cross the red sea,” he added.

NPP level of buffoonery is incredible- X user fires Afenyo-Markin’s over tax policy remarks

An X user who goes by the name Abdul Hameed has criticized remarks made by the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) majority leader, Afenyo Markin regarding the government’s tax policies and handling of power outages.

During a recent media address, Afenyo Markin stated that the NPP government inherited a tax-heavy system from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He claimed that despite challenges, the NPP improved the situation significantly.

In response, Abdul Hameed took to Twitter to express disagreement.

He argued that Afenyo Markin’s statements should not be taken seriously and pointed out the ongoing power outages in Ghana, attributing them to the NPP’s alleged failure to address the issue effectively.

“The level of buffoonery the NPP serves us is incredible. You just moved Ameri (a Mahama investment) to Kumasi to improve power situation. You met, ESLA and squandered, now leaving us billions of Cedi debt in energy sector. And he has the balls to even talk. Ghana paa!,” Abdul Hameed stated.

  • NPP has spend money judiciously than the NDC – Dr Frank Banor

NPP has spend money judiciously than the NDC – Dr Frank Banor

The Director of Research at the Danquah Institute, Dr. Frank Bannor, has emphasized the nuanced nature and significance of Ghana’s debt profile discussion spanning from 2009 to 2023.

He underscored notable trends in Ghana’s debt trajectory, highlighting a substantial surge from $8.07 billion in 2008 to $29.2 billion by the end of 2016.

During the period between 2009 and 2016 under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, Ghana’s debt stock experienced an average annual increase of 32.75%.

Conversely, the trajectory under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, from 2017 onwards, witnessed a comparatively modest addition to Ghana’s debt stock, averaging about 10.68% annually.

Mr Bannor noted that this lower rate, compared to the previous administration, reflects superior economic management by the NPP, despite facing global economic challenges.

He elaborated on fiscal deficits as a crucial indicator of government financial management. Fiscal consolidation periods were highlighted, along with challenges such as the significant deficit in 2012 under the NDC, attributed to heightened spending during an election year.

This fiscal imbalance led to prolonged repercussions, including consecutive years of double-digit deficits from 2013 to 2014, ultimately prompting the government to seek assistance through an IMF extended credit program in 2015.

In contrast, the NPP’s performance showcased rare instances of double-digit deficits, with only one occurrence recorded in 2020 amidst the global upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This favorable fiscal track record underscores the NPP’s commitment to prudent financial management.

Furthermore, the analysis delved into the utilization of borrowed funds by the NPP government, highlighting expenditure trends from 2017 to 2023.

Mr Bannor emphasized a prudent fiscal policy prioritizing investments aimed at generating long-term benefits for future generations.

“Furthermore, our discussion delved into fiscal deficits as a pivotal measure of government financial management. We highlighted how periods of fiscal consolidation were interspersed with challenges, notably the significant deficit experienced in 2012 under the NDC, primarily attributed to heightened spending during an election year. Regrettably, Ghana grappled with prolonged repercussions from this fiscal imbalance, enduring consecutive years of doubledigit deficits from 2013 to 2014. The persistent fiscal challenges ultimately
compelled the government to seek assistance through an IMF extended credit
    program in 2015.

“In contrast, when assessing the NPP’s performance, it’s noteworthy that doubledigit deficits were rare occurrences, with only one instance recorded in 2020 amid
the global upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This comparatively favourable fiscal track record underscores the NPP’s commitment to prudent financial management. More so, the analysis delves into the use of borrowed funds by the  NPP government, making clear its expenditure trends from 2017 to 2023. At DI, we firmly advocate for a prudent fiscal policy that prioritizes investments geared towards generating long-term benefits for future generations. Despite misconceptions, it is important to highlight that these funds have been deployed judiciously, with tangible evidence validating their allocation.
From the analysis, substantial sums have been allocated to various sectors, including the energy sector and infrastructure development. Notable expenditures include payments to independent power producers, construction of interchanges, road projects, railway expansion, construction of mini harbours and fishing landing sites, and investment in the healthcare sector through ambulance procurement,” he said

Contrary to misconceptions, he stressed that these funds have been deployed judiciously, with tangible evidence validating their allocation.

Key sectors benefiting from these investments include energy, infrastructure development, construction of interchanges, road projects, railway expansion, mini harbors, fishing landing sites, and healthcare through ambulance procurement.

Mr Bannor emphasized that these investments signify a strategic approach to utilizing funds for developmental projects aimed at enhancing economic growth and societal well-being.

His press conference coincides with criticisms from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Former President John Dramani Mahama, accusing the NPP administration of excessive borrowing without tangible projects to show for it.

Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of bridging the digital divide and achieving close to 100% internet penetration. He highlighted the significant progress made in increasing internet penetration from 34% in 2016 to 72% in 2023, with the aim of reaching near-universal access.

Dr. Bawumia’s vision includes building the digital talent necessary for the Fourth Industrial Revolution by providing digital and software skills to hundreds of thousands of youth.

This initiative, in collaboration with the private sector, aims to train at least 1 million youth in IT skills, including software development, to create employment opportunities globally, thereby addressing youth unemployment and fostering economic growth.

“Digital Bawumia, will give our youth the edge This will enable Ghana to take full advantage of the 4th industrial revolution. As President, Bawumia will partner with the private sector to train 1 million Ghanaian youth in information technology skills such as software developers to provide job opportunities worldwide.

“This will enable Ghana to take full advantage of the 4th industrial revolution. It’s possible!”

“I want us to apply digital technology, STEM, robotics and artificial intelligence for the transformation of agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, fintech and public service delivery. As part of this process it is my goal to eliminate the digital divide by achieving close to 100% internet penetration. We have already made very significant progress in this direction by increasing internet penetration from 34% in 2016 to 72% in 2023 (by more than double!!!). The task in the next four years is to move from 72% to close to 100%! It is possible!

“I want to see Ghana build the digital talent we require for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This will mean providing digital and software skills to hundreds of thousands of youth.

“This along with other policies, will create jobs for the youth, including school dropouts. In collaboration with the private sector, we will train at least 1,000,000 youth in IT skills,
including software developers to provide job opportunities worldwide.

I have never applied for or received a scholarship from government – Joyce Bawah

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has denied allegations suggesting she obtained a scholarship from the Government of Ghana during her academic pursuits.

These allegations, purportedly propagated by certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on various social media platforms and other channels, are aimed at besmirching her reputation and that of her family.

In response to these claims, Madam Mogtari vehemently refuted any receipt of government scholarship, stressing that the accusations lack merit and are intended to provoke public disdain against her.

She affirmed that the dissemination of such false information is a deliberate effort to undermine her credibility and integrity.

Taking to social media on Saturday, April 13, Madam Mogtari urged the public to disregard the baseless claims, reiterating her firm stance that she has never been a beneficiary of a scholarship from the Government of Ghana.

Furthermore, she clarified that she has never been enrolled as a student at Portsmouth University, thereby debunking another facet of the misinformation campaign aimed at tarnishing her reputation.

“Disregard the propaganda and falsehood being peddled by the dishonest NPP apparatchiki that I benefited from a Government of Ghana Scholarship.

“Let me state without any fear of equivocation or contradiction that I have never applied for or received a grant or scholarship from either the GNPC or Ghana’s Scholarship Secretariat.

“And for the avoidance of doubt I have never been a student of the Portsmouth University.”

    2. E-levy not among bold solutions to quicken Ghana’s dev’t; Bawumia will abolish it – Ahiagbah

E-levy not among bold solutions to quicken Ghana’s dev’t; Bawumia will abolish it – Ahiagbah

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has urged Ghanaians to vote for the paty’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He asserted that Dr. Bawumia will introduce bold solutions to accelerate Ghana’s development.

In a post on his X platform, he wrote, “Vote Bawumia for President on December 7th because he will abolish the e-levy and implement bold solutions to quicken the pace of Ghana’s development. From Akufo-Addo to Bawumia, it’s possible”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has outlined the qualities he believes Ghana’s next leader must possess to propel the country forward.

Speaking at the NPP International Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, he emphasized the need for visionary leadership and a proven track record in solving generational challenges.

“Ghana needs problem solvers, generational thinkers and people with innovative ideas,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“I am a problem solver, and a generational thinker with innovative ideas. I have a solid track record as Vice-President to prove it,” he added.

Highlighting his achievements as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia mentioned several policy initiatives he has led, including the digital national identity system, national property address system, mobile money interoperability, and digitalization of public services.

“I have not been President before, but through my role as Vice President, I have demonstrated that I will be a hard-working President and I have the vision to address generational problems confronting our sustainable development,” he affirmed.

Comparing himself to his main competitor, former President John Mahama, Dr. Bawumia asserted that his track record, work ethics, and vision make him a superior candidate.

He criticized Mahama’s past performance as President and emphasized his own commitment to change and progress for Ghana.

“I have not been President before, but through my role as Vice President, I have demonstrated that I will be a hard-working President and I have the vision to address generational problems confronting our sustainable development.”

“Former President Mahama has been President before but what was his track record? He failed.  He failed to tackle corruption and many problems. Economically, if you look at all the economic data in the 4th Republic, Mahama has been the worst President.

“John Mahama doesn’t represent change because he was there as President and he has been rejected twice in 2016 and 2020. I have not been President before and my record as Vice President is there for all to see. John Mahama represents the past and I represent the next chapter and future of our country.”

    3. I rejected $50,000 offer to compose a reggae song for a political party – Shasha Marley

I rejected $50,000 offer to compose a reggae song for a political party – Shasha Marley

Ghanaian reggae musician Shasha Marley has made headlines after revealing that he turned down a lucrative offer of $50,000 from a political party in Ghana.

The offer, which came with the condition of composing a campaign song for a political party, was presented to him earlier this year.

Speaking about the experience, Shasha Marley shared that he was initially excited about the opportunity when an old friend contacted him about the deal.

The prospect of a significant financial gain kept him awake at night as he contemplated the offer.

The following day, he met with his friend to discuss the details of the proposal.

However, despite the allure of the substantial sum, Shasha Marley ultimately decided to reject the offer.

The turning point came when he consulted with his wife, who advised him against getting involved in politics due to its complexities and potential controversies.

“You will be surprised and amazed to know that this year [2024], I rejected a $50,000 offer from a political party to do a reggae song for them…

“I had a call from a very old friend of mine who is not a politician, saying he has a big deal for me. I could not sleep that night. The following day, we met and he explained to me…

“When I returned home and briefed my wife, she advised me against it due to the politics involved, and eventually I agreed and rejected the offer, ” Shasha told Abeiku Santana on the Atuu show aired on UTV.

The musician’s decision sheds light on the intricate relationship between the music industry and political parties during election periods in Ghana.

It’s common for political parties to enlist musicians to create campaign songs aimed at resonating with the public and garnering support.

In Ghana’s political landscape, notable musicians like Diana Asamoah and Daddy Lumba have composed campaign songs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while Jewel Ackah famously did the same for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

These songs play a significant role in shaping public perception and influencing voter sentiment.

Shasha Marley’s rejection of the offer underscores the ethical considerations and personal convictions that artists navigate when engaging with political entities.

While the financial incentives may be substantial, many artists, like Shasha Marley, prioritise maintaining independence and steering clear of potential controversies that may arise from political affiliations.

Overall, Shasha Marley’s stance reflects the nuanced decisions artists often face in balancing their artistic integrity with external opportunities, especially in the realm of politics where allegiances can be polarising.

    4. NPP’s Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong assaulted in Nkoranza South

NPP’s Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong assaulted in Nkoranza South

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Nkoranza South, Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong, encountered chaos during a routine campaign visit, as members of the opposing NDC allegedly orchestrated a violent attack against her team.

The incident unfolded on March 29, 2024, during a community visit to Nsunensa, escalating when Oppong and her team attempted to address constituents and discuss the achievements of the NPP government, including ongoing development projects.

Tensions arose when Oppong’s team exposed alleged misinformation regarding the funding of the Nsunensa Junction–Nsunensa–Meta Road project, implicating the incumbent MP and a contractor with political ties.

This revelation reportedly triggered a violent response from NDC members, who obstructed the team’s exit using a tipper truck belonging to the road contractor.

The attack, allegedly led by the incumbent MP, highlights the heightened political tensions in Nkoranza South ahead of the upcoming elections.

In response, the NPP Communications Directorate condemned the violence and called for political accountability, emphasizing a history of intimidation by the MP and urging community leaders to promote peace.

The Nkoranza South constituency awaits further developments as authorities investigate the incident and stakeholders seek to address underlying tensions to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Signed by the Communications Directorate of Nkoranza South, the statement urges Nananom of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, religious leaders, and civil societies to intervene and deter further political violence, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and unity in the region.

      Below is the statement

NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY – NKORANZA SOUTH CONSTITUENCY

      PRESS RELEASE

THE MP FOR NKORANZA SOUTH, HON. EMMANUEL KWADWO AGYEKUM, ATTACKS MRS. HARRIET KYEREMANTENG OPPONG AND HER CAMPAIGN TEAM

On Friday 29th March, 2024, Mrs. Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Nkoranza South, together with her team were conducting routine community visits within the Constituency for various party activities.

Mrs. Oppong and her team, while at Nsunensa launching her Polling Station Campaign Team, took the opportunity to trumpet the achievements of the NPP government under the leadership of HE. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The discussion brought to the fore, ongoing Government of Ghana funded projects, including the 12km Nsunensa Jn. – Nsunensa – Meta Road, among others within the cconstituency being rehabilitated by the Ministry of Roads and Highways through the Department of Feeder Roads under the Road Fund.

MESSRS FABDONKOR COMPANY LIMITED, located in Adabraka, Accra, is the contractor, and it is an established fact that the said company is affiliated with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South.

Instead of utilizing the power given to him by the people of Nkoranza to be a development agent, the MP uses his influence to secure contracts for himself and his family. And mostly, when such kind gestures are extended to him by this NPP government that believes so much in growing indigenous companies irrespective of their political affiliation, the MP would rather use the opportunity to mislead the public into believing that he is personally funding the projects. He does so by either not mounting Project Poster Boards to show the nature of contract, client name and source of funding or he builds the Poster Boards but only mounts them when Officials are visiting for inspection, then pull it down after the inspection.

As such, when Harriet and her team took opportunity of their visit to Nsunensa to give a detailed explanation of the nature of the Nsunensa – Meta road project (Road Fund) to the people, their act of goodwill and honesty was considered an expose of the lies that has been perpetrated by the MP over the period, and this led to an attack on the team while on campaign rounds in the community.

The NDC members who felt that their lies have been exposed got angry, blocked the road with a tipper truck belonging to the road contractor to prevent the team from leaving the community and with the MP himself leading the charge, rained insults and vituperations on Harriet and her team. In fact, had Harriet not been in her vehicle, we wonder what Agyekum and his thugs would have done to her considering their choice of abusive words and how the MP’s face was distorted with rage. Her only crime was that she had been truthful and honest to the very people whose mandate she seeks to serve. This barbaric and violent behavior of Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum has become one too many, and it is about time he is held accountable. It is, therefore, important to remind you of some devilish activities carried out by Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum and his NDC in the past.

In 2016, during the voter registration exercise, Hon. Agyekum, then MP and Parliamentary Candidate for the NDC in Nkoranza South, deployed fully armed machomen to attack NPP agents at RC JHS Polling Stations.Alhaji Issah Moro, alias Bayereko and Mr. Amo Johnson, alias Master Amo among others, suffered the attacks by these henchmen the Hon. Agyekum.

In that same year. Mr. Kofi Ohene-Sakyi, the then Elections and Research Officer of NPP in the Constituency, and his team had to flee town for days to save their lives, all because the MP wanted them killed for no wrongdoing but standing their grounds to prevent his evil machinations. We could continue with an endless list of his barbaric activities, but time and space are of the essence here.

The most important thing we want the general public to understand is that we have experienced a whole Constituency Secretary murdered in cold blood while returning from campaign rounds in 2016 in our sister constituency, Nkoranza North.

Let us not forget that Nkoranza North and South are one traditional area separated only for administrative purposes, so we must be mindful of what happens to our party leaders and followers during the discharge of their duties within this constituency.

We want to further tell Hon. Agyekum and his NDC hooldlums that ‘ntasu kokoo wo obiaa anum na 3nso y3 gyae te fufuo’. No one holds a monopoly on violence, but we have decided to be law-abiding citizens. Let him never think he can get his way out with violence at all times; there will definitely be a day of accountability for him and his hooligans.

In conclusion, we humbly appeal to Nananom of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, the Clergy, our Muslim leaders, and Civil societies to call our MP to order and advise him and his NDC to refrain from politics of attacks, violence, and insults. Nkoranza is known to be a peaceful town. His selfish ambition of remaining an MP to continue to benefit from governmental projects to enrich himself should not hold Nkoranza to ransom and destroy love and unity that binds us as a people.

Any community attributed to violence lacks developmental projects and quality leadership; Nkoranza has outgrown this backwardism and uncouth politics.

      Long live Nkoranza!!!
      Long live Ghana!!!
Long live Mrs. Harriet Kyeremanteng Oppong and the NPP!!!

      Signed

    5. Ghana will prosper again under Bawumia – Rev. Ntim Fordjour

Ghana will prosper again under Bawumia – Rev. Ntim Fordjour

Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the avoidance of religious stereotypes within Ghana’s political realm, stressing that God appoints leaders without bias and for specific periods in the lives of his people.

In a recent statement posted on his platform, the Assin South Member of Parliament (MP) expressed his confidence that Ghana would flourish under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearer, if elected President in the forthcoming December 2024 elections.

Rev. Fordjour asserted Dr. Bawumia’s potential to excel as a president compared to the National Democratic Congress’ flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

“Yesterday I joined the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to cut sod for the construction of 4 storey, 200-bed capacity hostel for Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra. The contribution of Christian institutions to Ghana’s development was acknowledged by His Excellency Dr Bawumia as enormous and therefore envisions stronger partnerships with faith-based institutions under his tenure to propel the nation’s progress.”

He highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s acknowledgment of the significant contribution of Christian institutions to Ghana’s development and envisioned stronger partnerships with faith-based institutions under his tenure to drive the nation’s progress.

“Let us eschew religious stereotyping in politics, as God is no respecter of persons. God will prosper Ghana under the Presidency of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the Deputy Minister tweeted.

Rev. Fordjour’s remarks seemingly addressed independent presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s comment, advocating for Ghanaians to elect a Christian president given the country’s Christian majority.

Speaking at the Dr. Thomas Wyatt Assembly for the Church of Pentecost’s Easter Sunday Convention, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized the importance of selecting a Christian leader who embodies Christlike qualities, positioning himself as an ideal candidate.

“If God touches your heart and you vote for Alan Kyrematen, the transformative leader, then I can assure you, as our Lord Jesus did on the cross, promise that ye shall be in paradise with him; you shall also be in paradise when I come into power,” he added.

Criticism from members of both major parties ensued, condemning the comments as a violation of the religious freedom and tolerance Ghana has cherished over the years.

Mike Oquaye Jnr has refused to visit me after helping him win Dome-Kwabenya seat – Rev Owusu Bempah

The founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministries, Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has criticized certain high-ranking members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), branding them as ungrateful individuals.

Reverend Owusu-Bempah, known for his claims of prophetic abilities in election predictions and support, expressed disappointment that some NPP members, including those he has assisted spiritually, have failed to show appreciation.

In an interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese of Okay FM, he cited NPP parliamentary candidate for Dome Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr, as an example of someone who sought his spiritual guidance but did not acknowledge it afterward.

“Mike Oquaye Jnr came to me and said he was struggling to win the Dome-Kwabenya seat, so I gave him directions… he (Mike Oquaye Jnr) confirmed that he and his team chanced on a scene of some big men performing rituals at a particular place which I had mentioned to him.

“I told him to perform the rituals at the same place and he won the elections. He called and said he had won the elections and that he was going to come and visit. As we speak, I haven’t heard from him. So we have some politicians who are ungrateful.”

He also mentioned Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, as another individual who has neglected to recognize his contributions to her political journey.

“Madam Ursula Owusu is also another person; she is a very ungrateful woman. Some time ago, this woman used to come to me every time. When the election came, I went to her constituency to spend over two hours there. After their victory, I have never heard from her again,” he said.

Reverend Bempah expressed disappointment in the NPP’s lack of gratitude, noting that he had considered withdrawing his spiritual support for the party if not for the intervention of senior members such as Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Member of Parliament for Tema West, Irene Naa Torshie Addo-Lartey.

He recalled the sacrifices he made for the party, including risking the sanctity of his church by vowing that his chapel be destroyed if the NPP lost the 2016 general elections.

“Some journalists in this country can attest to how I suffered for the party and how God used me to deliver victory for the party,” he stated while recalling how he put his church on the line by asking that his chapel be burnt if the NPP were to lose the 2016 general elections.

    8. NPP has more Christians than Muslims, yet I was chosen to lead the party – Bawumia

NPP has more Christians than Muslims, yet I was chosen to lead the party – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has acknowledged the pivotal role played by Christian members in electing him as the party’s first Muslim flagbearer.

Speaking at the IFTAR event at the Suhum Ayekotse Central Mosque, Dr. Bawumia reflected on his journey within the NPP, highlighting the significance of overcoming initial doubts about a Muslim leading the party.

He attributed his success to divine intervention and the overwhelming support he received from Christian members, emphasizing that Christians outnumber Muslims within the party.

Dr. Bawumia pledged to bring the Qur’an to Ghana’s seat of government, the Jubilee House, if elected as President, expressing his aspirations for a potential eight-year tenure.

He contrasted his ambitions with former President Mahama’s four-year presidency, urging for patience and peaceful proceedings in the upcoming election.

In a contrasting viewpoint, independent presidential aspirant Alan Kyerematen advocated for the election of a Christian leader in Ghana’s predominantly Christian nation.

Speaking at the Church of Pentecost’s Easter Sunday Convention, Kyerematen appealed to the congregation to support him as a candidate capable of embodying Christian values and transforming the nation.

“During the presidential primary, they said a Muslim cannot lead the NPP. But by the grace of God after voting out of the 10 candidates I secured an unprecedented 61% which signifies the hand of God in the victory because when you look at NPP, Christians are more than Muslims in the party so it means it is the Christians who elected Dr Bawumia a Muslim as flagbearer for the NPP for the first time it has not happened before “said Dr. Bawumia.

“After December 7th I will take the Qur’an and pray and take it to the Jubilee house. It is Possible

“Mahama has only four years but I will have eight years. Do we want four years or eight years? that is why I want him to be patient so that I take the vehicle and drive. Now I am mate”.

“So we are going into election everything must be peaceful. I am contesting this election with my Brother the former President Mahama [Flagbearer of NDC] who has been President before reason I have been telling him to stay back so that I also clinch the presidency because I have not been President before. we know what he did he should also give me a chance to be President to also exhibit what I can do”.

“As a predominantly Christian nation, as Christians, it is our responsibility that we elect a Christian leader who is also a Christlike leader.”

    9. Prince David Osei rates NPP’s governance 7/10

Prince David Osei rates NPP’s governance 7/10

Ghanaian actor Prince David Osei recently shared his assessment of the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) governance over the past eight years.

Giving them a rating of 7 out of 10, he praised their performance in handling challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a discussion on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Osei acknowledged the government’s commendable work but also criticised its lack of substantial support for the creative arts industry.

      “On a scale of 1 to 10, I will give them 7.

“I’ve always been saying that enough attention is not being paid to the creative sector, and the ministers and the deputy ministers and the people who are part of us that we put in place of authority are not doing much,” Prince David Osei stated.

He highlighted the need for more attention and resources to be allocated to this sector, expressing disappointment in the current level of support from government officials.

“I believe the creative arts (industry) should be well-equipped. We should get more of the national cake.”

Osei emphasised that the creative arts industry plays a crucial role in Ghana’s development and should receive a larger share of national resources.

He stressed the importance of recognizing the contributions of creatives in providing entertainment and emotional relief to the public.

“Until we start respecting the creative arts and paying attention to it, we are not going to benefit as much as we are supposed to.

“This is because a lot of people tend to look down on actors and musicians, but we have the platform, and we have the numbers.

“We can convince the people, persuade the people, cause great change in governance, and also get involved in the political discourse.”
The actor called for greater respect and investment in the arts, pointing out that without proper support, the country misses out on potential benefits.

He also noted the influence of creatives in shaping public opinion and participating in political discourse, highlighting the need for their voices to be heard and valued.

GHC 3,400 per tablet, but no textbooks for basic schools, school feeding in limbo! – X User fires gov’t

A social media uproar has erupted over the New Patriotic Party‘s (NPP) priorities, as an outspoken user criticises the government’s focus on tablet procurement amid pressing education challenges.

On various social media platforms, the user known as X has condemned the NPP, highlighting the country’s critical issues such as the lack of textbooks in basic schools, outstanding capitation grants, delayed school feeding programs, and unresolved buffer stocks debts.

In a tweet, the user pointed out the staggering cost of Gh¢3,400 per tablet, totaling Gh¢4.46 billion for 1.3 million students, juxtaposed against the aforementioned education sector challenges.

The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that the first batch of 450,000 free student tablets fully funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) will be distributed next week.

According to him, the distribution of tablets has been categorized into three phases, with 450,000 to be distributed to 32 schools to ensure the effective distribution of a total of 1.3 million tablets.

President Akufo-Addo announced on March 25 the distribution of 1.3 million tablets to public Senior High School and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students.

Vote massively for NPP, other regions don’t matter – Chief of Staff tells electorates in Ashanti region

The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, has emphasized the critical role of the Ashanti Region in securing victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December polls.

Speaking at the NPP’s campaign inauguration in the region, the Chief of Staff, underscored the significance of garnering substantial votes from the NPP stronghold, stating that it could determine the party’s success regardless of results in other regions.

She highlighted the target of achieving a minimum of 80% voter turnout for the NPP in the Ashanti Region, emphasizing that such support would greatly enhance the party’s prospects of retaining power.

“In 2024, the fight belongs to us, the Ashantis. It is our fight, if we are able to win, that is the end… in the Ashanti region, if we are supposed to bring at least 80% of all the registered voters to vote, the counting of votes in all the other regions won’t make any difference”.

Osei-Opare stressed the importance of rallying support from Ashanti constituents, urging party members to prioritize initiatives aimed at strengthening the NPP’s stronghold in the region.

“The Ashanti Region is the most important region, and therefore everything that they are doing, we have to support them and make the party firm in the Ashanti Region,” she stated.

A private practice lawyer and director of legal affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo, has defended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Sackey Torkornoo’s decision to form a five-member panel to address an injunction application filed by Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor on Wednesday, 27 March 2024.

During an interview on the Big Bulletin, Asaase Radio’s evening news analysis program with Kayleb Ahinakwah, on the same date, Nimako Marfo explained that the application by the NDC Member of Parliament for South Dayi was ready for hearing as the Attorney General had submitted its opposing affidavit and statement of case.

He clarified that once all relevant parties had filed their documents, it was inconsequential if their lawyers were absent during the hearing, as the court had jurisdiction to proceed.

“When you issue a writ, within 14 days, you need to file your statement of case, or you can do it together with the filing of the writ. When you do it, you have to serve the AG or all other parties that are of interest in the matter. Having done so, the AG and the other parties will have to respond whether immediately or within 14 days.

“On the back of the injunction application, I do not understand why someone will say fixing the matter to be heard by a panel demonstrates that the Chief Justice is biased in the matter. I don’t get it. Clearly, whoever is saying this doesn’t understand how the judicial system works in this country, ” Gary Nimako further explained.

Nimako Marfo emphasized the procedural timeline for filing documents and service, expressing confusion over criticism suggesting bias by the Chief Justice in constituting the panel. He argued that those making such claims lacked understanding of the judicial system.

Regarding the urgency of the application, Nimako Marfo noted its significance and expressed surprise at attempts by the applicant and their lawyers to avoid service when the court was prepared to address the matter promptly.

He highlighted the impact of the case on parliamentary duties, noting the reluctance of Parliament to approve ministerial nominees due to the pending injunction application. Nimako Marfo asserted that expeditious handling of such cases was necessary.

The application in question, filed by Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor on Monday, 18 March 2024, sought a declaration of the unconstitutionality of not vetting ministers whose appointments were revoked and reassigned.

President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffle on Wednesday, 14 February 2024, prompted the legal challenge, as Dafeamekpor argued that reassignments constituted new appointments requiring parliamentary approval.

During the hearing, Dafeamekpor’s lawyers were absent, but the court proceeded after confirming service to all parties. The Attorney General and lawyers for the Speaker of Parliament opposed the injunction, leading to its dismissal by the Supreme Court on the grounds of being frivolous and an abuse of the court process.

The three MPs allegedly being considered as Bawumia’s running mate

Leading up to the December 2024 general elections, speculation is rife regarding the potential vice-presidential running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to asaaseradio.com, attention is drawn to three NPP members, all serving as cabinet ministers and holding parliamentary seats.

These contenders include Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, representing the Bosomtwe Constituency and serving as the Minister for Education; Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, representing the Manhyia South Constituency and serving as the Minister for Energy; and Bryan Acheampong, representing the Abetifi Constituency and serving as the Minister for Food and Agriculture.

A striking commonality among these potential vice-presidential candidates is their Christian faith and their origins in the southern regions of Ghana.

This alignment mirrors the NPP’s historical practice, except for 1996 when it formed an alliance with the Convention People’s Party (CPP), ensuring a balance between Christian and Muslim representation.

Typically, the NPP’s presidential ticket features candidates from either the northern or southern regions, often from Akan regions like Ashanti and Eastern.

Given Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s background in the North East Region, selecting any of these candidates would uphold the party’s commitment to maintaining this historical balance.

Among them, Dr. Bryan Acheampong stands out as the youngest, born on November 27, 1972, at fifty-one years old.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s diverse background encompasses military service, entrepreneurship, and academia, showcasing a versatile skill set.

On the other hand, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, born on May 23, 1968, is currently fifty-six years old, while Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum will turn sixty on April 9, 2024.

Each candidate brings extensive experience and expertise to the table. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, renowned in education, has founded charter schools in the United States and held various educational roles.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a medical doctor, has held prominent positions in healthcare and government, including a role in President Akufo-Addo’s cabinet.

Wicked NPP and NDC politicians want ECG boss out – Netizen

User on the X platform has indicated that the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG) Samuel Dubik Mahama is actively pursuing initiatives aimed at modernizing Ghana’s energy infrastructure and improving the reliability of the power supply.

However, his efforts are being impeded by certain individuals from both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The user suggests that these individuals’ actions aim to thwart and frustrate the managing director of the ECG into resigning from office.

Taking to the X platform he wrote “Truth of the matter is, the current young ECG boss is trying to do something different to save Ghana from the chronic power crisis but Noo, the old folks and wicked NPP and NDC politicians/businessmen want him out. How can we progress?”.

Over the past few weeks, the nation has experienced widespread power outages, commonly known as “dumsor.”

In light of these interruptions, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) instructed ECG to devise a load-shedding schedule. Nonetheless, ECG asserts that there is no power crisis, citing faulty transformers as the cause of the unstable supply.

However, ECG contends there is no power crisis, attributing the unstable supply to faulty transformers.

In a rebuttal, Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh rejected claims of “dumsor,” urging the public to create their own timetable if they perceive a crisis.

John Jinapor argues that the energy sector grapples with generation challenges affecting distribution. He recommends that PURC prioritize improving generation instead of enforcing a load-shedding schedule.

Speaking to the media, Jinapor criticized the Minister’s response, accusing him of politicizing sector issues.

Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security, Nana Amoasi VII, echoes Jinapor’s position, asserting that ECG and the Energy Ministry have a duty to furnish a timetable amid outages.

Nana Amoasi VII condemned the Minister’s dismissal of calls for a timetable, suggesting it reflects a lack of awareness and disrespect for consumers’ rights.

“I am very, very surprised even at the PURC directive because the main problem is generation, it has nothing to do with transformers. I thought that the PURC would have done its investigation to indeed determine that there is a generation shortfall.

“If there is a generation shortfall, the outage that occurs at the bulk supply point is controlled by GRIDCo. So GRIDCo will then have to inform ECG which bulk supply point will go off, then ECG will inform its consumers. As we speak there is a deficit in terms of generation and until that is resolved we will continue to have the load shedding we are experiencing.”

“I am very shocked and surprised that the minister would give such contradictory and counter instructions. He should know better that we are shedding load, and even in his interview, he couldn’t refute it. He admitted that yes, they are shedding load, but in his opinion, it is better than during President Mahama’s time. And so what? That is the question. Let’s assume it’s better, so people should not be given a timetable to plan because, in the minister’s opinion, it is better.

“If you admit there is load-shedding, give the people the timetable to plan. And when the people request that the outages are becoming too frequent, give us the timetable to plan, the minister says ‘that those requesting the timetable should go and prepare the timetable themselves. It is extremely unfortunate, very insulting,” he added.

Everything happening shows NPP is unserious about breaking the 8 – Adum Bawuah

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Kofi Adum Bawuah  has expressed concern that recent developments within the ruling party are at odds with their goal of winning the 2024 general election.

During an interview on Top FM’s Final Point program with Kwabena Owusu Agyemang, the ex-regional chairman hopeful highlighted issues with the party’s management, particularly regarding the national campaign.

Bawuah criticised the lack of seriousness within the party, stating, “Everything happening shows we are not serious. If you are serious about breaking the 8, this is not the character you practise after primaries.”

He also pointed out a lack of regional and constituency balance in the party’s campaign team, noting that “15 out of 40 people in the campaign team that has been set up are from the same region.”

The NPP has set a challenging target of being the first party to retain power for more than eight years.

Recently, the party elected Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

The presidential contest, scheduled for December 7, is anticipated to be a battle between Vice President Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, and his running mate Naana Opoku Agyemang, got married in 2012.

Chairman Wontumi made this allegation on Northern Go TV, but failed to substantiate it with evidence.

He claimed that former First Lady Lordina Mahama is being deceived by two NDC personalities.

Chairman Wontumi further alleged that Mahama and Naana Jane purportedly tied the knot after the latter divorced her husband of twenty years.

“In 2012, John Mahama married Prof Jane Opoku Agyeman secretly, I’m speaking the gospel fact, so they are husband and wife, they are not flagbearer and running mate, they are deceiving Lordina (Mahama’s wife),” he said.

The Constituency Chairman of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Manhyia South, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, known as ‘Tom Tom  has declared his stance against apologizing to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, despite looming legal threats.

Chairman Wontumi, as he’s commonly referred to, expressed outrage over accusations made by Ofori Atta regarding alleged interference in the NPP’s running mate selection process.

Ofori Atta had insinuated that Wontumi was involved in trading the party’s vice-presidential slot.

Wontumi issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Ofori Atta to substantiate the claims or retract and apologise, warning of legal action otherwise.

“While the public is urged to dismiss and disregard these unfounded claims as they are bereft of, and lack, substance, Mr. Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori-Atta is given 48 hours to either substantiate these allegations or render an unqualified apology to Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako and the Party in the Ashanti Region.

“There would be no other option than to take legal action against him should he fail to do so,” the statement asserted.

In response, Ofori Atta remained resolute, stating that he won’t apologise to the Regional Chairman.

He affirmed his readiness to face Wontumi in court, emphasising his stance until the ultimatum expires.

“For now, I am waiting for the so-called 48-hour ultimatum to elapse and take it from there,” he added.

The confrontation underscores tensions within the NPP, raising questions about internal dynamics and the handling of allegations within the party.

Bawumia to name running mate by May 2024 – Nana Akomea hints

A prominent figure within Ghana’s political landscape, Nana Akomea has disclosed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is adopting a careful approach in unveiling its running mate for the upcoming elections.

Formerly representing Okaikwei South in Parliament, Akomea emphasised that extensive groundwork is underway to identify the most suitable candidate to complement Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Akomea highlighted that despite the National Democratic Congress (NDC) maintaining Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as their candidate, the NPP remains unfazed.

“Bawumia is in no hurry to announce a running mate, but the public will be informed by May,” Akomea assured.

He further commented on the NDC’s decision, expressing scepticism about their chances and suggesting it could lead to another electoral defeat.

However, Akomea firmly denied any rumours of his interest in serving as Bawumia’s vice president, clarifying that while his name may have been circulated on WhatsApp platforms, he has no intention to pursue the role.

“I have no desire to be Dr. Bawumia’s Vice President; there are other deserving candidates,” Akomea affirmed.

NPP working hard to destroy prophets – Nigel Gaisie

The founder and leader of Hope Generation Ministry International, Prophet Dr. Nana Akwesi Amponsah, widely known as Nigel Gaisie, has expressed concerns over what he perceives as a concerted effort by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to discredit and undermine prophets.

In a recent Facebook live video, the prophet addressed the criticism aimed at him for prophesying the death of the late Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah.

Emphasizing his commitment to his prophetic role, Nigel Gaisie stated that attempts to tarnish the reputation of prophets are part of an alleged agenda by the NPP.

During a Facebook live session on Monday, March 11 2024, prophet Nigel Gaisie stated that he remains resolute in his claim that he foresaw the tragic event that befell the late Deputy Minister of Finance, John Kumah.

In the video, he dismissed allegations attempting to tarnish his reputation, asserting, “The only thing they can say is that we prophets are womanizers, it is normal if you know we don’t really have time. I am too busy for this thing. It is the agenda of the NPP to destroy prophets. You can’t discredit Prophet Nigel.”

Emphasizing the validity of his prophecy, Gaisie stated, “Indeed I saw it [death],” cautioning the public not to dismiss prophetic messages lightly.

These statements come in response to Apostle Lilian Kumah, the wife of the late John Kumah, who refuted prophet Gaisie’s prophecy.

In an interview with Asaase Radio on Sunday, March 10, she revealed a personal connection between her family and the prophet.

Lilian Kumah argued that Mr Gaisie was well aware of John Kumah’s health condition since November 2023, questioning the authenticity of the prophecy.

“Nigel Gaisie was like a brother. He knows my late husband, lawyer John Kumah personally, one-on-one. We have sat in this house and eaten together several times. That is how far we go. When he came from abroad to start a church in Ghana, he came to my church, Disciples of Christ Ministries and I did a programme with him dubbed “Let the Prophet Speak”.

“We know him very well and have been aware since November 2023 that the late John Kumah was seriously sick. My husband had a lot of respect for men of Ghana in this country and that included Nigel Gaisie when my husband and I thought he was a genuine man of God,” Apostle Lilian Kumah stated.

“Nigel Gaisie knew very well that my husband was terminally ill as far back as August 2023 but regardless of that, he stood on his altar on 31st December 2023 to lie through his supposed prophesy that a Ghanaian deputy minister will die in the year 2024.

“What does he want to achieve through these fake prophesies?” John Kumah’s widow further stated.

John Kumah, the 45-year-old lawmaker for Ejisu, passed away on Thursday, March 7, leaving behind a wife and six children.

The controversy surrounding Mr Gaisie’s prophecy has ignited debates about the credibility of such predictions and their impact on individuals and families.

We are suffering; we are making more losses than profits – Kumasi market women to Lordina

A delegation of market queens from Kumasi, operating within the stronghold of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), voiced their distress over the rising costs of doing business during a meeting with former First Lady Lordina Mahama.

The traders cited a decline in working capital attributed to the constant depreciation of the Ghana cedi against other currencies.

The meeting, initiated by the market queens, addressed various issues, with a focus on the necessity for additional market infrastructure in the Ashanti Region.

Expressing her empathy, Lordina Mahama, who has over 30 years of experience as a market woman, acknowledged the challenges faced by the traders.

“I am one of you. I have been a market woman for over 30 years, so I know what you are going through,”Lordina Mahama stated.

She affirmed her commitment to supporting them, irrespective of their political affiliations, emphasising her understanding of their vital role in the economy.

Anti-LGBTQ+ bill: Germany, other nations are contemplating demanding debt repayments – Freddie Blay

Former national chairman of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay exposed growing concerns that Germany and other nations are contemplating demanding debt repayments if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signs the controversial anti-LGBT+ bill into law.

Blay disclosed that this potential move is seen as a protest against the bill, which critics argue is discriminatory and violates human rights principles.

Speaking in an interview with Oyerepa TV on March 8, 2024, Blay emphasised the country’s dependence on international financial assistance and highlighted Germany’s explicit warning that imposing such a bill could trigger demands for loan repayments.

“The reality is that we depend on international bodies for financial assistance, we go and borrow money from them and we pay …Germany I am aware of…says if we impose such bill, we will demand our payment on loans and no compromise on that and many other countries have said similar, IMF itself has made it clear on some of the conditions,” Freddie Blay stated.

The Ministry of Finance has issued a stern warning to President Akufo-Addo, cautioning him against assenting to the anti-LGBT+ bill.

A 5-page document released by the ministry reveals the substantial financial repercussions, with Ghana risking the loss of $3.8 billion in World Bank financing.

He emphasised that President Akufo-Addo’s decision not to prosecute Mahama is driven by a desire for national harmony.

“… John Mahama, if not for the fact that Akufo-Addo has ruled Ghana for there to be peace, you should be in jail by now. If not for the fact that Akufo-Addo wants peace to prevail, just as we see former presidents being locked up in countries like Pakistan, the same thing should have happened here,” Chairman Wontumi stated in Twi.

He further added, “If you look at the Air Bus scandal, the Ameri deal, and the other corruption scandals, John Mahama should have been jailed. You (Mahama) are a candidate for treason. It is Akufo-Addo who has given him a presidential pardon, that is why he is walking around freely.”

A highly regarded historian has come forward with explosive claims that President Akufo-Addo is orchestrating a plot aimed at ensuring the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fails to regain political power in the upcoming 2024 elections.

The historian alleges that the president is intentionally steering the country towards economic decline to pave the way for his grand plot.

The respected historian asserts that President Akufo-Addo is amassing wealth for his family and close associates with a clear agenda, to position them for a triumphant return to power in the 2028 elections.

According to the historian, the president’s ultimate goal is to solidify his family’s dominance in Ghana’s political landscape.

“President Akufo-Addo has intentionally led the country’s economy into a downfall. He is amassing wealth for himself and his family, aiming to attain political power in 2028 with a representative from his own kin. His vision is to ensure his family’s enduring influence in Ghana’s political history,” the historian revealed.

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has reversed his earlier decision to establish his own political party.

Previous report suggests that the legal practitioner was contemplating leaving the NPP due to being excluded from a role in the 2024 campaign.

Expressing his frustration at being overlooked after years of service, he initially declared his intention to part ways with the party.

However, in a recent interview with OKAY FM in Accra, Nana Obiri Boahen stated, “I have rescinded my decision to leave the party. I must say that it’s not everything I can discuss on air.”

Simultaneously, Nana Obiri Boahen has been appointed as a co-chair of the local government subcommittee within the political party’s manifesto committee.

NPP is yet to receive information from EC regarding the 2024 elections – Evans Nimako

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is yet to receive official communication from the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the schedule for this year’s general elections, a sentiment shared earlier by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP’s Director of Research and Elections, Evans Nimako, clarified in an interview that the party had only received an invitation for an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024.

This comes amidst reports of the Electoral Commission’s plans for key election activities, including nominations, balloting, and result declaration, with the NPP emphasising the absence of official communication on the broader election program.

“The NPP has not received any official communication from the EC concerning the programme of activities for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.”

“All that we have gotten is a notice of invitation for an IPAC meeting to be held on Thursday 7th of this month at the EC Headquarters so I will also confirm that we have not received any such communication from the EC,” Evans Nimako stated in an Eyewitness news interview on Citi News.

The statement echoes the sentiments previously expressed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which criticised the commission for releasing the calendar to the public.

Reports indicate that the Electoral Commission plans to accept nominations for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections from September 9 to 13, marking a significant countdown to the peak of the political season.

This will be followed by the balloting for positions on the presidential ballot paper on September 23, 2024, and the parliamentary balloting on September 24, 2024.

Furthermore, the Electoral Commission expects to declare the results of the 2024 presidential polls within three days of the voting exercise, provided everything proceeds as planned.

As part of its activities for the 2024 general election, the Electoral Commission will conduct a voters’ registration exercise from May 7 to May 27, 2024, and will also undertake a nationwide exercise to replace missing voter ID cards starting from May 30, 2024.

The registration exercise will be preceded by a 56-day public education campaign, which will run from April 1 to May 26, 2024.

    31. “Covid tax is just foolishness” ; Ghanaians will vote against you – A-plus to Gov’t

Renowned Ghanaian politician and social media influencer, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has ignited a flurry of reactions on social media following his recent Facebook post.

Expressing bewilderment, A Plus questioned the rationale behind the Ghanaian government’s persistence in collecting COVID-19 tax, considering the pandemic is now a thing of the past.

A Plus argued that imposing unnecessary taxes on citizens lacks sound reasoning and called on the government to reconsider such measures.

In a direct message to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), A Plus warned that relying solely on the COVID-19 tax to secure political success might backfire, as Ghanaians are likely to vote against the party in the upcoming December 7 election.

“Covid tax is just foolishness. It can only help you to break the monitweasedi!! Thank you!” remarked A Plus, emphasising his stance on the matter.

A-plus is a hiplife artist with a keen interest in politics and social issues.

He first made a name for himself singing about events leading to and after Ghana’s 2000 general elections.

He released his album, “Freedom of Speech” during the 2000 elections.
