  • No wonder people pick watching Mbappe, Vinicius over GPL – Obiri Boahen on league suspension

Obiri Boahen, a former deputy general secretary of the New Patriotic Party, has spoken on the suspension of the Ghana Premier League as a result of a court order.

On September 29, 2022, the Ghana Football Association declared that the league has been halted as a result of an interlocutory injunction Ashantigold received from the Human Rights High Court.

Obiri Boahen said in an interview with Angel FM that given these occurrences, it is not surprising that Ghanaians follow other leagues and players more closely than the domestic league.

Lawyer Obiri Boahen on Angel TV; “Why will people not follow Vinicius Jnr and Mbappe than our own players in the league?”

“If you play a Premier League that can be put on hold because of a Court injunction every year, who will be willing to invest their money and time in this” he added.

The GPL has been under injunction threats over the past two seasons. Tema Youth tried to seek for an injunction in 2020 after they claimed the FA had denied them promotion into the top tier by bending the rules in favour of Accra Lions.

Ebusua Dwarfs also tried seeking an injunction in 2022 after accusing the FA of unfair demotion.

Both Tema Youth and Ebusua Dwarf’s efforts proved futile, but Ashantigold succeeded in placing an injunction on the league in their fight against a supposed unfair demotion.

The GFA’s Disciplinary Committee found AshantiGold guilty of match manipulation in their home game against Inter Allies during the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

Following that, the Committee demoted both clubs to the country’s third-tier league and suspended other officials involved.

  • Dr Amoako Baah says Akufo-Addo begged Ofori-Atta not to resign as Finance Minister

Leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Dr Amoako Baah, says  President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo begged Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, to reconsider a decision to resign from office.

Dr Amoako Baah, speaking in an interview with Joy FM, noted that President Akufo-Addo is insisting on the finance minister keeping his job because they were relatives.

“If the finance minister was not a relative of the president, he himself would have resigned. I hear he tried to resign actually; the president begged him not to. All because the president needs him. Whatever it is he was doing, he is the one who understood what he was doing. He was the one who made it work, and so the president needs him no matter what. This situation we are in is not like other times. This is a peculiar situation of family and friends,” he stated.

There are calls for Mr Ofori-Atta to be relieved of his position, with some critics citing the current economic challenges facing the country.

The decision by the government to enter an International Monetary Fund programme despite its earlier position against the IMF has also been cited by several critics of the finance minister.

Dr Amoako Baah, in the interview, described Mr Ofori-Atta leading Ghana’s IMF negotiations as counterfeit logic.

“How is it possible that the very person that is trumpeting the idea that we are not going to the IMF, we have the means to make it work, we don’t need to go to the IMF, we are a proud nation and all of that. Then we end up at the IMF and suddenly this same person is the one who has become the champion of dealing with the IMF. How is that possible?” he questioned.

Dr Amoako Baah, who is a senior political science lecturer, called the minister’s integrity into question, saying, “This is what is called counterfeit logic; it has no integrity nor whatsoever.”

  • Keep the faith; NPP has a track record of success – Nana Kofi Ntiamoah

Communication Team Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Kofi Ntiamoah, has urged Ghanaians to have confidence in the Akufo-Addo administration to navigate the nation positively through the present economic storms because, fundamentally, the NPP has a track record of doing so.

Nana Kofi Ntiamoah reminded Ghanaians that although times may be hard now, the Akufo-Addo administration inherited an even more dire situation and successfully moved the country onto a path of growth until the whole world was blindsided by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and locally, the banking sector clean-up.

He assured that despite the present difficulties, the government is working assiduously to restore the country on the path of growth and accelerated development shifted off course by the three almost concurrent challenges.

“Not long ago, we had felt similar despair. The fear of losing our lives to a pandemic and the near halt to our economy as we battled to survive each day. Some years ago also we had been confronted by very dire economic circumstances.

The joblessness of our youth, years of lights out that impacted adversely on businesses and jobs, the disappointment of dealing with a collapsed national health insurance system and inability to access health care, the bane of the cash and carry system, a nearly collapsed national ambulance system, freeze on public sector employment, an almost collapsed banking sector and so on,” Nana Kofi Ntiamoah told Accra-based Wontumi TV.

“The government of President Akufo-Addo put in much effort to turn things around and elevate the standards of living of the Ghanaian people above what the situation used to be at the time this government was formed in 2017. Taking over from then meant we had to do our best also to make things work and better.

“Together as a country, we proceeded to fix the economy. We made great gains and the records attest to this. Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic which has impacted all economies in the world, we stabilized the economy and achieved great strides,” he added.

“In the midst of the current economic challenges we face, we are putting in place the key pillars for the economic transformation of Ghana. We may not yet be where we want to be, and we may be buffeted by the winds of the pandemic and the war for yet a little while, but we have made a great start and, together, we shall finish what we started.”

  • Propagate the good works of government – Ntim to NPP Regional Communication Directors

The National Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Stephen Ntim has commissioned the party’s Regional Directors of Communications to lead their respective regions in propagating the good works of the government.

According to him, the Regional Directors of Communications have a crucial role to play in ensuring that the NPP “breaks the eight” in the upcoming 2024 general election which promises to be keenly contested.

He was speaking at a meeting with all the Regional Directors of Communications of the party at an event held on Tuesday in Accra.

Present at the meeting were the National Director of Communications, his deputies, and the party’s Director of Finance and Administration.

  • NPP is the only party to take Ghana to the promise land – Nana Obiri Boahen

Former Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has said that the party remains popular despite the booing of President Akufo-Addo at the Global Citizen Festival at the Black Star Square on September 24.

He said the founding traditions of the party come second to none in placing Ghana on the path of prosperity.

According to him, only the NPP can steer Ghana to the ‘promised land.’

On the booing of President Akufo-Addo, he said it only goes to show that everyone has their highs and lows in life, stressing that life is a mixture of good and bad times.

“It demonstrates that for every human being, there must be ups and downs. In life you won’t always have it rosy at all times. These are issues you will encounter as a politician, as a human being.

“Does this show NPP is not popular? No. NPP is popular today, tomorrow and beyond. NPP and the UP tradition, no tradition is capable of moving Ghanaians to the promised land apart from this tradition,” Obiri Boahen said.

Economic conditions have been worsening under the NPP administration and government has partly blamed the situation on the adverse effect of the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

While the economy has suffered downgrades from credit rating agencies such as S & P and Fitch, Ghana has initiated contacts with the International Monetary Funds hoping to secure a US$3 billion facility over a three-year period.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes the prevalent economic situation is the reason President Akufo-Addo was booed as a sign of frustration at the government.

  • CPP has never been the 3rd force in Ghana’s politics – Dr. Smart Sarpong

A Senior Research Fellow at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Smart Sarpong, has refuted assertions by some factions in Ghana that the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) is the third force in the country’s political landscape.

He explains that for any political party to become the third force behind the two leading parties, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party(NPP), it must be able to amass at least 5 percent of votes in national elections.

Speaking in a TV3 interview monitored by GhanaWeb, on Monday, the political scientist added that the only political party that has come close to being the third force in Ghana’s political space is the Peoples’ National Congress (PNC) under the late former President Dr. Hila Liman.

“Apart from Dr. Liman in 1992, who provided a third force on the ticket of PNC, there hasn’t been any third force in the republic. The last Nkrumahist to have provided a third force was Dr. Hila Liman.

“Third force is not merely placing 3rd in any election we hold with any count of votes or any percentage of votes. You need to do at least 5 percent or more of the votes that will be counted and Dr. Hila Liman did 6.7 percent.

“As for CPP, it has never been the third force, let us put that on record. After His Excellency Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, CPP has virtually disappeared. All through the years coming down to the recent election, you and I know that we do not have a 3rd force,” he said.

“Nobody should think that a third force is just coming and getting something and placing 3rd. You need to work and enter into the plus 5 percent mode, then Ghanaians will feel that you have organized yourself a little and you need a little push,” he reiterated.

  • Akufo-Addo booed: Our intel shows it was planned and orchestrated by the NDC – NPP

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that the booing of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by some patrons of the Global Citizens event was instigated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the Deputy Communications Director of the party, Jennifer Queen, the NDC orchestrated the incident to take away the shine and benefits of the global event held at the Independence Square on Saturday, September 24, 2022, brought to Ghana.

“Despite all the benefits the state is gaining from the event, the NDC and their evil mindsets wanted it to fail. The intel gathered by our National Communication Directorate shows that they sat down to orchestrate this to outshine the beauty of the programme. I am talking about the NDC because they were the first group of people who started sharing the video,” she said on Okay FM.

Thousands of patrons were at the Black Star Square to witness the Global Citizen Festival, which had a number of local and international artistes performing.

When it was the turn of President Akufo-Addo to make his presentation, a section of the crowd began clapping and chanting ‘away, away…”

The incident attracted several social media reactions, with some critics saying it was a reflection of frustrated Ghanaians expressing their disaffection with the president and his government.

But according to Jennifer Queen, the NDC rather saw the need to score cheap political points by organising some individuals with poor home-taught manners to disrespect the president.

“The event was to sell the country to the entire globe. So if you end up cutting parts of some videos or instigate people to hoot at the president who is our leader, it speaks very bad of you. Some people want to claim that they are the doyen of wisdom and are acting smart.

“This is becoming a norm nowadays. If a minister, vice president or a government official goes to a programme, you find people who go out to hoot at them. But what that tells is that a lot of these people lack home training. A lot of these people lack proper upbringing,” she said.

While describing the chants as despicable, the party communicator nonetheless emphasised the success of the event, which she notes adds to the president’s commitment to pushing Ghana’s entertainment, arts and culture.

“I will tell you that it is condemnable, it was unwarranted, it was bad behaviour from some elements who were being paid to go and do that, but in the end, the programme went on successfully,” she said.

  • Kwame Nkrumah didn’t achieve anything; Akufo-Addo is better than him – Agya Koo

Kumawood superstar, Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo has lauded the administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He said the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is the best the country has ever had.

Speaking in an interview in Kumasi, the popular actor said the communications department of the government are not propagating the works of the President enough.

In his opinion, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accomplished more than any other President the country has had during the fourth Republic, hence it is important to emphasize this.

“Akufo-Addo’s administration is the only one that has worked hard and kept its promises. Kufour took action. He made us value the concept of majority rule. I travel extensively throughout this country and have witnessed the enormous improvement in person, thus I wonder why Communicators are failing to project.

“Although Ghanaians sometimes offend me, no government has performed as well as the one led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

“If you know history, you’ll realize Kwame Nkrumah didn’t accomplish anything. In a discussion with Kwaku Manu, he said that all he had done was “acquire what the border aces did.”

On one of his regional tours, President Akufo-Addo recently said Ghanaians are lucky to have him as President.

According to him, he has the country at heart and this has reflected in all the policies and infrastructure he has done since he became President.

On his tour in the Savannah Region, President Akufo-Addo wondered why the Yapei-Kusawgu District was still underdeveloped even though they keep voting for the opposition party NDC.

However, assuring the Chiefs and people gathered at the function, President Akufo-Addo hinted that, he is going to heed their cry because he is the best Ghanaians can have.

“But Yagbonwura, you are lucky, you have me as the President of Ghana. I’m going to do it for you. In the same way, no secondary school, no Senior Technical School, in the whole of Kusawgu area, ahhh, eiiiiiii”, he wondered.

The President also took a swipe at the NDC Member of Parliament for the constituency, former Deputy Power Minister, John Jinapor.

  • Gabby must be on another planet – Prof Hanke jabs over gov’t deserves praise comment

Professor of Applied Economics at the John Hopkins University in the United States has taken on New Patriotic Party, NPP, member, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

Prof. Steve Hanke described Gabby as being ‘on another planet’ over his recent claim that the government needed to be lauded for its handling of the economy.

Hanke posted a GhanaWeb story of Gabby’s claims on Twitter and captioned it thus: “Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Gabby Otchere-Darko says Pres. Akufo-Addo deserves praise for his handling of the economy. SPOILER ALERT: Otchere-Darko must be on another planet.”

He added his usual inflation measurement which he said stood at 81%/y, a figure that is over 100% the official inflation percentage pegged at 33.9%.

Gabby’s tweet of September 22, 2022 read: “The Akufo-Addo govt and, in particular, MoF, deserve the nation’s commendation for their handling of the economy in these most challenging times. Despite slump in revenues, bills are being paid, including salaries, roads being fixed, & money found for programmes like YouStart.”

The Ghana Statistical Service, GSS, recently announced that consumer inflation for August 2022 hit 33.9% from 31.7% in July.

This is the highest rate that has been recorded in 21 years. According to the GSS, food and transportation were the main drivers of inflation.

Professor Hanke who has taken a keen interest on economic issues of Ghana in a separate tweet said Ghana’s economy was tanking – an expression which means the economy is down and there are fears of a recession.

He has in the past blamed the Akufo-Addo-led administration for putting the economy in a dire situation.

“Ghana is in 8th place in this week’s inflation table. On Sep 8, I measured Ghana’s #inflation at a stunning 81%/yr–over 2x the official inflation rate of 34%/yr. #Ghana’s economy is TANKING. To rein in inflation, GHA must install a currency board,” he tweeted on September 19.

“Today, I measure #Ghana’s inflation at 81%/yr. As a result, Ghanaians don’t know the price of anything anymore. When Ghanaians see their grocery bills soar, they can thank Pres. Akufo-Addo,” Prof Hanke added.

  • At 62 years, I won’t pick forms and quit last minute – Ken Agyapong on 2024 bid

Asin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has assured his supporters that he is going the full haul with his flagbearership bid in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The outspoken lawmaker is one of the candidates in the race who is actively engaged in activities geared towards emerging as the NPP candidate for the 2024 presidential polls.

In an interview on the sidelines of a social event that he attended on September 15, he was asked about the claim that candidates like himself will likely drop out late into the race.

“If NPP opens nominations, I will pick forms… those who pick forms and quit, does he look like me? At 62 years, how can I declare my flagbearership ambitions in the NPP and quit, I am not quitting,” he said.

He, however, called for clean campaigns stressing his disinterest in what he described as ‘dirty politics.

“We are all going to run, just that what I don’t want is dirty politics. I am not going to do dirty politics. I will go to the people and tell them what I have done for the NPP and Ghanaians and for which reason they should vote for me,” he emphasized.

A confident Agyapong said he was upbeat that he will prevail over all the other candidates and called on delegates to vote for him for his track record in serving the party and the country but also for the fact that he is the overwhelming candidate of the youth.

    Kennedy Agyapong declares intention

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP, Assin Central, in May this year became the first to publicly announce his bid to lead the NPP

He said if the governing party wants to break the eight as their mantra for 2024 is, then they must break the eight with Kennedy Agyapong.

“Yes, it is true. I have decided that when the NPP opens nominations, I will pick a form and file my nomination to contest the party primaries as the flagbearer…I will stand on the ticket of the NPP and nothing will change,” Kennedy Agyapong said in a Facebook live interview with The Announcer Newspaper, Wednesday, May 26.

Other contenders – rumoured and announced

There are other contenders in the race to lead the NPP. Two on record to have declared their intentions are former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong and former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko.

The Agric Minister is also rumoured to be lacing his boots to contest as is Joe Ghartey, one-time Attorney General and Railways Minister.

  • NPP outspent us in the 2020 General Elections – Afriyie Ankrah

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a candidate for the position of General Secretary in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claimed that the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) won the 2020 General Election because they spent a fortune on their campaign.

In order to gain the seats they now have in Parliament, he claimed that the NPP had outspent the NDC by a ratio of almost 1:1,000 during the parliamentary elections.

Elvis claimed that the NPP had turned to force and vigilantism in places where money was insufficient to increase voter turnout; hence, those seats are still being litigated in court.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on why he is the perfect man to succeed the current NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Afriyie Ankrah noted that while the NDC lost the 2020 General Elections, the statistics bode well for the party.

“I believe we won 142 seats, five of them are in court now, and it was through violence. You saw what happened in Techiman, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Sefwi Wiawso and all those other places because of the violence that was deployed.

“And then again the NPP outspent us by a ratio of maybe about one to a thousand, because we know the money we made available to our parliamentary candidates for example. It’s not up to 100,000. It’s not even up to 50,000, but you heard an NPP Vice Chairperson saying that she was given 1 million, just her alone.

“So they outspent us absolutely. They had so much cash, and that is why we’re in this crisis. They spent money, they opened the vaults. You’d be surprised to know that in some of the Northern, Savannah regions on the eve of elections bullion vans actually came to pack and money was being disbursed,” he said.

According to him, the election statistics show that even despite an NPP win, the NDC has gained more grounds among the Ghanaian electorates and is poised to take power in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

“So with all that spending, if we’re to go by the official declaration of the EC, we have 137-137. Don’t forget that when we were in government, we had 106 seats, we lost by 44.3% and we recovered. And when I say this I say this very carefully so that nobody will think that we’re happy that we lost.

“We did not go in to lose, okay, but when you’re doing analysis, the statistics they speak. The statistics show that from a deficit of 106 seats, we now have 137. And if you look at the numbers, we had a deficit of 1 million votes which we clawed back so President Mahama’s votes went up by 6.2 million.

“So there were contentions over the Presidential votes which we went to court and all that. So I believe we’ve built a certain momentum,” he said.

  • Mahama currently receives a ‘bigger’ salary than Akufo-Addo – Abronye

The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP), Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), has alleged that former President John Dramani Mahama receives a higher salary than President Akufo-Addo.

He explained that the salary differentials has been occasioned by President Akufo-Addo taking a 30% salary cut in July this year as a result of economic crunch.

Addressing a press conference on September 19, Abronye DC reiterated that the government continues to fund the activities of Mahama despite he being out of office.

“In 2021, we all saw in the Emolument Committees report and the salaries of ministers up to that of the president. As I speak today, John Dramani Mahama receives more salary than Akufo-Addo.

“He receives GH₵35,000 without a Cedi deduction but for Nana Akufo-Addo’s GH₵35,000, 30% percent is deducted from it and other government appointees also take the cut since 2021. So you [Mahama] who is sitting at home not working, when you are traveling the state funds it, your salary is bigger than that of President Akufo-Addo and his Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ,” he charged.

Abronye DC has in recent times taken on the former president over issues concerning his finances, particularly ex-gratia.

    Background

Abronye DC has alleged that former President Mahama took ex-gratia of GH¢14 million in 2013 and GH¢15 million in 2017, a claim the former president has denied.

He alleged that the former president took the GH¢14 million ex-gratia through his Agricultural Development Bank Account and that he (Mahama) also received retirement benefits including his salaries, accommodation allowances, travel allowances, and salaries of his staff that summed up to GH¢15 million.

But Mahama has denied the GH¢14 million and has also said that he does not receive his full retirement benefits.

“They haven’t given me an office, I rent an office in East Cantonments, I pay the rent myself, I pay for my own fuel, the state doesn’t give me fuel. I pay my own domestic staff; I pay my own medical bills. I pay for my own air tickets when I travel,” the ex-president said in a TV3 interview last week.

  • How NDC appointees bought 361 state cars valued at $110m for $3m

The Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP), Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye DC, has revealed how several state-owned vehicles were purchased at a discount by former National Democratic Congress (NDC)government officials as they prepared to leave office.

According to the document sighted by GhanaWeb, 361 automobiles at $110 each were sold to government appointees for a pitiful $3 million.

Abronye asserted that the state lost $107 million as a result of this.

“The table above shows 40 out of the available 361 documents exposing how various state cars were purchased by high-rank NDC officials after they had lost the 2016 polls. The total value of all 361 cars was $110, but John Mahama sold it to his appointees at $3m, causing a financial loss of $107m equivalent to GHC1.5 billion to the state,” he shared as part of a press conference organised by the Patriotic Forum for Accountable Governance at the International Press Centre on Monday, September 19, 2022.

The press conference was on the back of a statement by former President John Dramani Mahama that he will review Article 71 of the 1992 Constitution, which covers emoluments such as ex-gratia for senior government officials if he wins power in 2024.

But according to Abronye, the former president’s promise is aimed at scoring political points and has no actual commitment behind it.

He tagged former President Mahama as being the biggest beneficiary of Article 71.

Per details of the document shared by Abronye, some of the cars, including a 2015 model Toyota Avensis registered WR 2798-15 with a market price of $28,965.00 (GHC167,846.38), were sold to former Deputy Education Minister Alex Kyeremeh for a paltry GHC500.
Some other beneficiaries of the 361 cars include Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Collins Dauda, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Sylvester Mensah, Murtala Mohammed, Victor Smith, Dr Raymond Atuguba and Dzifa Attivor.

Abronye noted that a good number of persons who benefited from the sale of the cars were cronies of former President Mahama and officials of the NDC and did not merit an ex-gratia in the first place.

  • Aisha Huang was issued an indefinite resident permit under Mahama – Obiri Boahen

Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has accused the erstwhile Mahama government of issuing an indefinite resident permit to Chinese galamsey kingpin, Aisha Huang.

In an interview with Okay FM on September 16, the former NPP scribe berated the opposition National Democratic Congress over the politicization of prosecution of the Chinese national and the consequent doubt it cast on same.

On his substantive accusation, Obiri Boahen said Aisha Huang was granted the resident permit in 2015 even though she had hitherto been trying to acquire one during the tenure of President Kufuor.

“Would you believe that on 28th March 2015 Aisha Huang was given an indefinite resident permit here in Ghana? Meaning she lives here in perpetuity. This was done during NDC’s time. President Mahama’s government gave Aisha Huang the permit on 28th March 2015. Meanwhile, she was unsuccessful to get the permit during President Kufuor’s time,” he said.

There have been varied accounts on whether or not Aisha Huang left the country in 2018 after the state filed a nolle prosequi in a case involving her.

While government has maintained that she left the shores of the country, state prosecutors in her recent case have said that she sneaked out of the country.

President Nana Akufo-Addo also in an interview on a Ho-based radio station cast doubts on whether Aisha Huang was deported or she fled the country.

The president said: “I am not still sure whether she was, in fact, deported or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back or whatever. There still seems to be some uncertainty about it”.

The comment by the president has raised several eyebrows with the Minority pushing for a full-blown probe into the circumstances of Aisha Huang’s ‘deportation’.

Meanwhile, Aisha Huang has been denied bail together with her three accomplices. They have been remanded in custody for two weeks. Last Friday, the AG filed four new charges against Ms. Huang, one of which relates to reentering the country illegally.

  • YEARS AGO: Government borrowing is not careless; external debt stock is $20.671 billion, according to Gabby

On September 16, 2019, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), remarked that the administration was not acting carelessly.

He made his statement after the nation’s total debt stock at the time reached $20.671 billion.

    Ghana’s external debt stock: $18.370 billion in 2014; $20.633 billion in 2015; $21.372 billion in 2016; $21.369 billion in 2017; and $20.671 billion in 2018.
    anticipated advancement in 2019.
It indicates that NPP isn’t memorizing borrowing, according to a Facebook post by Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko.

According to 2018 records, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ghana’s external debt stock is $20.671 billion.

He claims that data on Ghana’s debt stock, which spans the years 2014 to 2018, demonstrates that the Akufo-Addo administration isn’t borrowing carelessly.

    He wrote on Facebook: “Ghana’s external debt stock: 2014: $18.370 billion; 2015: $20.633 billion; 2016: $21.372 billion; 2017: $21.369 billion; 2018: $20.671 billion.
    anticipated advancement in 2019.
It indicates that NPP is not borrowing automatically.

Recall that the Minority in Parliament lambasted the Akufo-Addo-led government for engaging in excessive borrowing, which they claimed had increased the national debt.

According to them, the latest report of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana places the current national debt at almost GH200 billion as at the end of the first quarter of 2019.

Mr Cassiel Ato Forson, Ranking Member on Finance, speaking at a press conference stated that, despite this insatiable appetite for borrowing, President Akufo-Addo’s government does not have any significant capital investments to show unlike his predecessor, former President John Mahama, who invested borrowed funds in major capital projects across all sectors of the economy, from education, health, housing, roads, energy, communications, aviation and transport, among others.

Mr Forson also said the GH200 billion national debt represents an increase of about GH80 billion in the last two and half years alone, raising the debt to GDP ratio from 56 per cent in 2016 to almost 58 percent.

“We drew attention to the change since 2016 for three reasons related to the Mahama era. First, there was the promise not to borrow. Second, the NPP has benefited from a 25 per cent bonus or increase in GDP, due to the rebasing exercise. Third, the NPP inherited two additional oil fields (Sankofa and TEN) that has almost tripled output and at an average 60 per cent price increase” he added.

According to Mr Forson at the current exchange rate levels, borrowing alone has given President Akufo-Addo government a staggering $16 billion over the period, which excludes GH5.7 billion borrowed under the ESLA Bonds last year.

Mr Forson also noted that the current NPP administration has benefited more in terms of oil revenues received than any other government.

He said the total oil revenues received between 2017 and 2018 and those expected to be received in 2019 currently stands at GH 12, 328, 703, 024.81.

He said President Akufo-Addo’s government has had more money at their disposal than all other governments and should have done far more than is being done presently.

Mr. Forson added that the present borrowing spree poses a threat to the fiscal space made available by the economy’s rebasing, which began in 2016 and was completed in September 2018.

He claims it is clear the President sees the opportunity presented by the rebasing as a chance to indulge in reckless borrowing for the purpose of financing consumption-related expenses.

Despite all the resources at his disposal, he claimed, President Akufo-Addo has not been able to keep the majority of the promises he made to the electorate during his campaign.

  • Aisha Huang is an NPP financier – Otokunor alleges

A Chinese national, Aisha Huang, is allegedly a bankroller for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to Peter Boamah Otokunor, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to the media on September 15, Mr Otokunor suggested that the nolle prosequi that allowed her release in 2018 was submitted in court while speaking with the media outside of a press conference for the NDC.

He asserted that gold was the solution to the Cedi’s depreciation, but the resource has been given to Aisha Huang and her exploitation schemes.

Mr Otokunor  stated that she has further been emboldened to carry out her activities as a result of funding she gives the NPP with – a reason why the governing party was defending her.

Otukonor warned that citizens would not sit aloof for the NPP to take them on a fools ride.

“We are suffering one of the worst currency challenges in the history of this country. Gold has the solution to this problem. They are not paying taxes on the galamsey. She is smuggling the gold.

“She is doing all manner of things against our law and because NPP is in government and maybe they claim she’s their financier, they are defending her and they want all of us to follow suit.

“I mean all of us cannot be fools in this country. If perhaps they have been deceived by Aisha Huang because she has given them some pittances or because Bawumia went cap in hand begging them for money and she led them to go and raise funds for their campaign, that doesn’t mean we the citizens of this country must sit down and allow them to rip the nation off,” he said.

Asked if he had any basis for his claim about Ms. Huang being a financier of NPP, he said “I mean if she is not a financier of the NPP, I wonder how somebody who is supposed to have been deported and the president admitting that she has been deported.

Otokunor further berated the president over his state of unawareness on the ‘deportation’ status of Aisha Huang.
He described the president’s attitude as one which has become one too many and of great concern.

“…I wonder how somebody who is supposed to have been deported and the president admitting that she has been deported. The senior minister, if you want the prime minister Osafo-Maafo saying that she has been deported, all of a sudden the president is playing dumb and saying that he doesn’t know that the woman has been deported.

“I think that it is becoming one to many and it is becoming a worrying trend. You have a sitting president who always says that he is not aware of decisions he himself has undertaken.

“The President has issued executive instrument and he says he is not aware. He has written letters of authority and he says he is not aware. Corruption appears under him and everybody is talking about it and he says he is not aware.

“Today, Aisha Huang, he is saying that he is not aware that Aisha Huang was deported. Very soon he will say that he is not aware he is the president of this country and I think we should be worried. We should be concerned,” the deputy NDC Chief scribe said.

Meanwhile, Aisha Huang has been denied bail together with her three accomplices. They have been remanded in custody for two weeks.

  • Winning galamsey fight possible, but obstacles are many- Derek Oduro

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major (rtd) Derek Oduro, says it is possible for the country to win the fight against galamsey but has also admitted that there are many obstacles .

He made the comments in relation to the recent issues concerning Chinese national, Huang Ruixia alias Aisha Huang and that of the missing excavators at Ellembelle.

After being deported in December 2018, Aisha Huang and three others were recently arrested and remanded for allegedly engaging in illegal mining in Ghana.

The accused persons were charged for engaging in sale and purchase of minerals without a licence.

Speaking on Atinka TVs morning show, Ghana Nie with Ekourba Gyasi Simpremu, Major (rtd) Derek Oduro said, “It is possible to fight galamsey, but there are so many obstacles, there are so many mine fields that should be protected but people are sabotaging it, and they know what they are doing is not good but they are using it to do politics. Because of the galamsey fight, a lot voted against the NPP, we are all aware that most of the places where the people do galamsey, they voted against NPP,” he said.

He also advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government not to allow Members of Parliament (MPs) to lead the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in their communities.

Derek Oduro observed that when it happens like that, the people tend to vote against the MPs during election, a situation he believes is unfair on the part of the galamseyers.

“If we want a solution to this menace, what we should do is that, we should not allow any MP in the areas where they mine to get involved in the fight against galamsey. We should not allow any of them to lead the fight against galamsey because his own people, the youth who vote for them are part of the galamseyers so when you go and speak against it then you have an issue. Meanwhile, if you do not talk about it to things go bad,” he said.

  • Every issue that affects us shouldn’t be approached from a legalistic perspective – Ntim Stephen

The national chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Stephen Ntim, reaffirmed the father of the president-in-view office’s that not all constitutional disputes should be resolved by judicial review.

He claimed that the late president’s father, Edward Akufo-Addo, made a statement in his first address as president that is still relevant to the nation’s politics today.

“I do not think that a legalistic approach to all constitutional issues is the most helpful,” he remarked.

“It is not my opinion that every constitutional dispute should be resolved solely through judicial determination, nor do I think any of the persons in command of the various estates will want to take a purely legalistic stance in this subject.

At the unveiling of a tribute book for Okyeame Baffour Osei Akoto on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Accra, the National Chairman of the NPP reaffirmed the late president’s confidence in this.

“I humbly ask that we all, as Family members, always think about what will be best for the party, even if it means sacrificing our own personal and individual interests.

“In my opinion, it is in the general interest and progress of the party that our individual and collective welfare may be found, he posited.

Below is the full statement, he delivered at the launch:

History, they say, has a way of repeating itself.

Today is exactly 52 years when His Excellency Mr. Edward Akufo-Addo of blessed memory took office on 31 August 1970 as the first, and as it turned out, the last President of the Second Republic, which also happened to be the first government of the UP Tradition, headed by the legendary Dr. K A Busia.

In his first address as President, the late President Akufo-Addo said something as significant in our contemporary politics as it was then.

He said: “It is not my belief that a legalistic approach to all questions under the constitution is the most useful.

It is not my belief that every disagreement under this constitution should be solved only by judicial adjudication, and it is not my belief that any of the men in charge of the several estates will want to take a strictly legalistic stand in this matter”.

Nana Chairman, this is the voice of a man who could be described as a ‘Law man’, a very high-standing lawyer and a judge at the apex of the judiciary and yet admonishing that we should not assume a legalistic stance on every matter that bothers us.

Ladies and gentlemen, I wish to emphasise that as chairman of the biggest political Party in Ghana, I share the admonition of the late President.

My humble request, therefore, is that all of us, as members of the Family, should always consider what will be in the interest of the Party, even if we must sacrifice our personal and individual interests.

In my opinion, it is in the general interest and progress of the Party that our individual and collective welfare may be found.

There are matters which can be resolved amicably if we prioritise the collective good of the Party and its goals.

The need for amicable solutions to our challenges in the Party is more crucial now than ever, given the herculean task of our commitment to breaking the eight.

We can best break the eight if we bear each other’s burden, forgive each other when we are offended and work diligently to support the government’s efforts to ameliorate the plights of the Ghanaian people and get them to appreciate the immense progress being made in the country under this government.
Looking at the bigger picture, we are surrounded by the enormous examples of selflessness, patriotism and vision that Okyeame Baffour Akoto and many of our forebears exhibited.

Because of those selfless and patriotic deeds, we feel happy celebrating Baffour Akoto’s memory today. During their time in the pre and immediate post-independence era, the political situation in Ghana was quite stormy. Those days one could be cast into prison without knowing their offence, courtesy of the notorious Preventive Detention Act. People like Baffour Akoto could have remained comfortably in the palace and let the politicians do their so-called dirty politics. He instead chose the more challenging option of helping to salvage the situation to secure true democracy for the nation.

Gladly, the philosophy and principles that Baffour Akoto, J.B. Danquah, S D Dombo, K.A. Busia, and several others of our tradition espoused have now become the foundation of our democratic society, which have been deepened by the tremendous leadership of J.A. Kufuor and which are being continued by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as presidents of the Republic.

The memory of people like Baffour Akoto must be a lighthouse that beckons us to navigate towards patriotism for national development.
As we pay homage to Baffour Akoto, the man through whose vision, charisma, respect and devotion the great brains from all walks of life were assembled to give birth to the UP Tradition, which has today given birth to the New Patriotic Party, let us all contemplate what we can also do to propel the progress of our dear country for our generation and those coming after us.

Long live the memory of Okyeame Baffour Osei Akoto. Long live the New Patriotic Party, and long live Ghana.

Ladies and gentlemen, I thank you for your attention.

May the Almighty bless us all.

  • No need for interchanges in the Ashanti Region – NPP man

Ntim Twumasi Kwaku, a prominent New Patriotic Party (NPP) member in the Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, has criticized the development of interchanges in the Kumasi city.

According to him, funds allocated for the projects should be used to dualize important roads leading to the capital in order to reduce traffic congestion for both vehicles and people as well as to prevent accidents.

The NPP financier is advising regional opinion leaders to choose something important over interchanges on Garden City radio in Kumasi.

‘Fight for community and feeder roads, not interchanges. Why fight for interchanges when your community and feeder roads are in a deplorable state? Ask for a tarred road to all our farming communities so that food and other supplies will be readily available in our markets.

‘Consumable foods are perishing on farms due to bad and deplorable access roads. Farmers are impoverished cos 70% of their farm products perished on the farms. The amount spent on a single 3 or 4-tier interchange can complete almost all the roads in Manso, kwabre, Ejisu, Bosomtwe, Effiduase, Kumawu, Juaben etc.’ he stated.

Mr. Ntim Kwaku Twumasi therefore highlighted the need for the NPP government to develop rural areas in the country instead of dwelling much on the cities.

‘With good roads, these small communities will open up for development, factories and other small businesses. It will help minimize rural-urban migration. Teachers, nurses/midwives, will not object when posted to these areas,’ he pointed out

Adding: ‘Kumasi does not need more than 1 or 2 interchanges for now. Let’s focus our energies on our community and feeder roads to attract investors to our towns and villages. Don’t even ask for asphalt, let’s go for the good old 2 or 3 layer gravelling(sapetee), the asphalt overlay can be done later when the roads begin to incur heavy traffic.’

  • NDC wanted me to manipulate 2015 UG SRC polls – NPP official parries fraud allegations

Stephen Forson, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) recently appointed National Deputy Director of Information Technology, IT, has denied accusations that he rigged the 2015 University of Ghana Students Representative Council, SRC, elections.

He asserts that the accusations are untrue rumors spread by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which is scared of him joining the NPP IT team given its reputation for strength.

In a statement copied to GhanaWeb, the NPP deputy IT director said that the NDC compelled him to rig the SRC election, which he refused to do. As a result, the NDC ordered the Bureau of National Investigations to look into the incident (BNI).

“NDC in power then had tried to coerce me to manipulate a software I developed in favour of their sponsored candidate to win the SRC elections. For the purposes of Accountability and Transparency, I refused the offer and submitted to the school a software that ensured a free and fair elections, despite the threat on my life and that of my family.

“The NDC became apprehensive after failing to win that election for their sponsored candidate and immediately begun a political witch-hunt against myself, my crew, and my family. They caused the BNI to pick me up from my house for having developed a software that didn’t favour a government in power,” parts of the statement read.

He further stated that the BNI, after a series of interrogations and investigations, could not charge him with any crime because he was innocent.

“The University of Ghana, based on the unbridled allegations of the NDC apparatchiks, conducted its own full-fledged IT investigation into the matter and still found no wrongdoing on my part. In fact, the University ascertaining the credibility of my system allowed me to work with the Students Union for several years. I have since worked with almost all tertiary institutions across the country. I have built extremely complex systems for corporate institutions both in the private and public sectors,” he added

Stephen Forson made these remarks after a systems analyst programmer, Yayra Koku, who was hired to look into the 2015 UG election fraud, said that his investigation of the incident pointed to the fact that the now NPP deputy director of IT manipulated the system in favour of one of the contestants.

In a post shared on Facebook on August 27, 2022, Yayra Koku also alleged that the person the election was rigged for is an NPP member who now works at the National Lotteries Authority (NLA).

“I was hired as a systems analyst and a cybersecurity consultant to help investigate an alleged rigging of Legon SRC elections using an electronic voting system developed by Stephen Forson.

“After 2hrs of interrogations and accessing the system, it was detected that a line of code was put in the system to benefit one guy called Fobi, a member of the NPP and now working at Sammy Awukus’s office. Though Stephen Forson denied ever putting that code there, it was obvious the last update on the file had his laptop credentials.

“I remember asking him to “uncomment” a line in his code and vote for the other contestant. To our surprise, after voting, Fobi rather got the vote,” parts of the post read.

He added that the 2015 election fraud has not been resolved to date.

  • Former President Mahama eulogises N/R NDC Chairman

Former President John Dramani Mahama eulogised the deceased Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), at the Islamic funeral rites held for him in Tamale.

According to him, Alhaji Abdulai Ibrahim Mobila, was like a father to him.

As part of the funeral service, Muslim leaders prayed to Allah to have mercy on the deceased, which was led by Sheikh Abdul-Salaam, Northern Regional Chief Imam.

Mr Mahama said Alhaji Mobila was one of his key advisers during and after his 2020 presidential campaign.

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Chairman of NDC, also in a tribute on behalf of the Party, said the death of the Chairman was heartbreaking not only for the party but also to the families and friends as well.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary of NDC said the late Chairman dedicated himself to the cause of party unity in the region as well as his commitment to return the party to power.

Mr Ibrahim Hamshawu, son of the late Alhaji Mobila, who read a tribute on behalf of the family, said his father was a charitable man, who lived for others, always helping people.

He said his father was a great teacher, who always taught the family the way to God by encouraging them to practice the Islamic teaching.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minority Leader in Parliament, expressed appreciation to all sympathizers for their support for the funeral.

Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila died at the age of 84 on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the Tamale Teaching Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a short illness.

He was also Chief of Tugu Yapalsi, a farming community on the Tamale-Yendi Road.

  • We need a confident not cowardly president Afia Schwarzenegger shades Alan Kyerematen

Media personality, Afia Schwarzenegger, has been talking New Patriotic Party, NPP, and politics in her recent post on the social media platform, TikTok.

She zooms in on the presidential flagbearership race with emphasis on three frontline candidates Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyerematen, and Mahamudu Bawumia.

She dedicates the major part of her three-minute rant to Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, who she describes as more cowardly than confident.

She cited how the Minister in times past resigned from the NPP after losing a presidential primary before returning at a later date.

“With all due respect to Mr. Alan Cash [referring to Alan Kyerematen], when you resign from a group and return, you join the queue from the back because the position is not reserved for you. So, you join from the back,” she said while mocking a recent pro-Alan walk in Kumasi as a gathering of drunkards.

“You needed to be a man and not to have packed your baggage and bolted. You claim your supporters were being hounded, but excuse me to say, you bolted from the internal competition, can you stand the NDC, can you stand the opposition?

“We need a president who is confident not a coward, not a president who bolts to Ukraine, flees in times of adversity. When a conflict arose, you run away to Yammousoukro and stayed there till things were okay, you packed and returned,” she charged.

On Kennedy Agyapong, with whom she has previously had public disagreements, she advised him to stay off the race because of his loud mouth and that delegates will only spend his money and not vote for him.

She jabbed Vice President Bawumia as a potential candidate who was always wearing a suit and talking about Ghana Card and digitalization whiles others are busily working against his bid.

The NPP is due to elect a new flagbearer for the 2024 election. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to hand over to a new president in January 2025 after the elections. The NPP will hold a conference to elect a flagbearer sometime next year.

  • Did you lift the ban on campaigning dawn before Alan Health walk? Tangoba questions JFK

Former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has questioned the executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about whether the ban on political activities has been lifted.

The NPP’s General Secretary issued a press release in which he cautioned against open campaigns for the party’s flagbearer candidates.

He indicated that until the ban on campaigning activities is lifted, persons seen openly campaigning will be sanctioned by the party.

However, on Saturday August 13, 2022 some members of the political party called “friends of Alan” organized a health walk in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

During the walk, they displayed placards openly campaigning for the candidature of Alan Kyeremanteng.

After the walk, leaders of friends of Alan made utterances that could divide the political party; something executives of the party have been fighting against.

Reacting to the walk, Tangoba could not understand why the party will sanction it, especially when the General Secretary has openly said they frown on all open campaign activities.

She wanted to know if the ban was lifted the dawn before the supposed health walk.

  • TESCON suspends activities after Northern Regional Minister ‘ordered’ arrest of its President

The students’ wing of the New Patriotic Party, Tertiary Students Confederacy (Tescon)-TaTU Chapter, has suspended all political activities on campus in response to the arrest and subsequent release of its president.

The Tescon President, Sayibu Ibrahim was allegedly arrested for claiming in a Facebook comment that the Regional Minister, who dressed casually to welcome the President at the Tamale International Airport, did not bathe.

He was detained and subsequently released on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

The NPP student wing condemned the arrest, describing it as unjust, disgusting, and condemnable.

Agani Elijah, a member of Tescon-TaTU told Justicefmonline on Thursday that the Regional Minister and NPP leadership in the region must render an unequivocal apology to the President and the entire membership of Tescon before they can resume their regular activities.

He denied claims that the Tescon President was arrested for beating up a lady who replied to his comment about the minister, noting that it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the reputation of their President.

“We want to put on record the allegations level led our President to the effect that he beat up a student of UDS to a point where she was hospitalised.”

“The story is concocted, fabricated and a calculated attempt to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of our president since the said lady was seen at the police station healthy and not hospitalized as alleged, our president is not a violent person and a respecter of rule of law,” Mr. Elijah said.

He stated emphatically that the Northern Regional Minister orchestrated the arrest of their President “since his car, that is the V8, ash colour, was used to perpetrate the illegality”.

  • Kennedy Agyapong is a ‘reckless talkertive’, he can’t be president – Popular actor

Ghanaian actor, Nana Ofori Agyemang, popularly known as Oboy Siki, says Assin Central MP, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, cannot be President of Ghana.

According to the outspoken Kumawood actor, persons who talk recklessly like Mr. Agyapong will face difficulties once they assume the high office of President since they cannot keep secrets.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi TV, Oboy Siki, also called Dada Santo, said Kennedy Agyapong talks with utter disregard towards the danger or the effect his behaviour will have on other people.

To him, the decision by the vociferous MP to run for president is a clear indication that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) itself has become cheap. He faulted Mr. Agyapong for once describing Ghanaian’s Parliament as “cheap”, forgetting he himself was a member of the very institution he denigrated.

“The NPP has become cheap, otherwise, why would Ken say he wants to become a president? He went abroad and said Ghana’s Parliament had become cheap. You had the guts to talk ill of the same Parliament of which you are a member. Now you’ve realized Nana Addo is incompetent so you want to take the seat and rule Ghana, right?” he slammed.

Asked if Mr. Agyapong’s chances can’t be increased based on the fact that he poses some courageous and daring character traits, Oboy Siki replied, “we’re not in a military regime.”

He added, “Someone who’s mouth cannot go to sleep, how can you be President? He talks rough rough, unless he doesn’t have any issues with you. He even said he would sack his own wife if she does something wrong, how does this make sense? You’ll sack your wife and so what? How does sacking anyone like that contribute to ruling a nation?

Oboy Siki advised Kennedy Agyapong to be mindful of his “unnecessary” public utterance as according to him, “they’re intelligent people who are analysing the things you’re saying and will judge you over it.”

  • Ashanti Regional NPP MPs call on constituents to exercise restraint in addressing issues

Members of Parliament (MPs) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Ashanti Region have urged their constituents to exercise restraint and use dialogue to resolve issues surrounding roads and other projects in the region.

The focus of the appeal was to explain how hard their MPs are pushing to get government attention to continue all the good projects started in the region and also the bad roads that need immediate attention.

The caucus further condemns the attacks that were melted on Kyei Mensah-Bonsu last Monday when he visited some projects in the Suame constituency in the Ashanti region.

Addressing Journalists on the unfortunate incident that occurred in Suame involving the Majority Leader, the MP for Asante Akyem Central and chair of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi called on the people who took part in that incident to go to their leaders and apologize.

The Chairman of the caucus, Mr Anyimadu, therefore, gave the assurance that all the road projects and the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Projects (IPEP) started by the NPP government would be completed to bring about confidence in the ruling government.

  • We are the only party ready for election 2024 – Nana B

With a successful National Delegates Conference to elect National Executives, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the only political party ready for Election 2024 according to National Organiser elect, Nana B.

Nana B speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Hello FM praised his party for being able to elect officers from polling station level to national; “something the NDC has not been able to do”.

“Among all the political parties in Ghana; the only political party who has been able to organize elections from polling station to National is the NPP. We are the only political party. In fact the NDC are even struggling to start their branch and constituency elections they’re not even done and so if you want the political party which is ready for the 2024 election, it is the New Patriotic Party. That shows a sense of readiness,” he said.

  • Work with John Boadu, he’s got rich experience – Nana Akomea tells New NPP Gen. Sec. JFK

Managing Director of the Inter-City State Transport Corporation (STC), Nana Akomea, has congratulated all the victors in the just-ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Annual National Delegates Conference held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The party’s national elections came off on Saturday, July 16 with some notable names like Kate Gyamfua maintaining her position as National Women’s Organizer and Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) National Organizer.

General Secretary John Boadu was dethroned by the delegates and his position handed over to the former Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Justin Frimpong Kodua, popularly called “JFK.”

Stephen Ntim was elected National Chairman after four failed attempts.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” programme, Nana Akomea commended all the winners for putting up a good fight and advised them together with the defeated aspirants to iron out any differences and unite to achieve the party’s goals.

He further singled out some positions like the General Secretary position stressing it was one of the surprising events.

Nana Akomea emphasized that JFK “deserves a lot of commendation for going against the expectation and to beat a stalwart like John Boadu” but proposed he should include John Boadu in his administration stating the latter has a rich experience to guide him (JFK).

“If Kodua allows John Boadu to play a role in his administration, it will help him a lot; at least to stabilize because John has done this job for a long time, he asserted.

He also called on the National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, to also enlist the help of the Director-General of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Stephen Asamoah Boateng who also contested the National Chairman position.

“If Ntim open his arms and give Asabee a good role in the administration, it will also help because we all know Asabee’s enthusiasm for the party. So, we applaud all of them, both the winners and losers,” he stated.

  • Ghanaian politicians save almost $3.4 billion in Swiss banks – Captain Smart alleges

Renowned broadcaster, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has alleged that more than 90 per cent of Ghanaian politicians save dollars they acquire abroad.

According to Captain Smart, the politicians who are both from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are afraid of saving their dollars in Ghanaian banks because it will raise suspicions.

Smart, who made these allegations during his Maakye programme on Onua TV, monitored by GhanaWeb, added that Ghanaian politicians are saving some $3.4 billion in banks in Switzerland alone.

“I can tell you on authority that if you take 100 NDC politicians, 98 of them save out of Ghana. They save out of Africa, they save in Switzerland, France, the US and the UK. You can ask Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko. If you also take 100 NPP politicians, 99 of them save out of Africa. You can ask Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who saves at the Bank of America.

“Do you know that Ghanaian politicians do not save dollars in Ghanaian banks? Because the dollars they earn are huge, they never want to save in Ghanaian banks for people to see how much they are wealth.

“If you are a foreigner and you want to save in Switzerland, the minimum deposit you should have is US$ 500,000… The last time I checked, we have over 3,000 Ghanaians saving in banks in Switzerland, and out of this 80% are politicians… If you check the amount of money being saved by Ghanaian politicians in Switzerland, it is almost $3.4 billion,” he said in Twi.

Captain Smart further stated that the fact that the government of Ghana is seeking a $ 2 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund and that the same politicians who are governing the country are saving over $3 billion in Switzerland alone shows their level of hypocrisy.

He added that the money saved by politicians in Africa in Switzerland is what the Swiss government uses for the development of their country.

Also, the broadcaster suggested that if the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, really wants to fight the menace of corruption in the country, he should trace these monies and retrieve those that were illegally acquired for the development of the country.

  • Kennedy Agyapong accuses 15 NPP chairmen of bad faith

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has stated that all the 15 regional chairmen of the party who openly declared their support for John Boadu have been disgraced.

“All of them have been embarrassed. If it were somewhere, all of the chairmen would resign,” he stated.

Speaking an interview with journalists at the Accra Sports Stadium after the declaration of Justin Kodua Frimpong as General Secretary of the NPP, the maverick MP urged the 15 regional chairmen to learn their lesson.

“If you are a party chairman and you stab your people underground there, you cannot change their minds. That is the decision we have taken,” he stated.

The NPP held its national delegates conference on the theme: “Holding together, working together.”

The immediate past General Secretary, Mr Boadu, who was widely tipped to be retained, got 2,524 votes while his main challenger, Mr Frimpong, garnered 2,837 to emerge victorious. The other competitors, Iddrisu Musah had 104; Frederick Opare-Ansah had 50 votes and Ramseyer Agyemang-Prempeh polled eight votes.

Another contender, Charles Bissue, who pulled out of the race a few days to the conference, got 12 votes.

    Disunity

Mr Agyapong said the action of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to whip all the regional chairmen to support the candidature of Mr Boadu could cause disunity in the party.

“Wontumi should cool down; he does not own the party,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong said he had learnt his lesson that the disunity in the “party stems from the fact that leaders of the party openly support candidates. This time, I decided that to get unity in the party, I am not going to openly support anybody.”

    Winners

He said delegates would always vote for any candidate they believed was good.

“If you are good and the people believe in your work, they will vote for you. But for the first time in the history of the NPP as a political party, you see 15 regional chairmen raising their hands because they have been whipped. They have been disgraced. That is all I can tell you,” he stated.

He said that action by the 15 regional chairmen, led by Chairman Wontumi, ahead of the party’s national delegates conference smacked of bad faith in the party.

  • Respect party rules and guidelines John Boadu told

A group known as Concerned Members of the New Patriotic Party in the Northern Region, says it is utterly disappointed in the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, for defying ground rules on a temporary ban on all forms of campaign activities on the impending NPP internal National Executives contest slated for 2022.

According to the group, it finds it very repugnant and reprehensible that Mr. John Boadu who together with other national officers of the party drafted the rules governing the 2022 NPP internal elections could go contrary to the same and campaign in the Northern parts of the country under the guise of meeting regional and constituency officers of the party.

“It is very instructive and evidently clear that Mr. John Boadu in his recent tour of the Northern parts of the country touted his purported achievements as the General Secretary of the NPP and subsequently urged party delegates to renew his mandate for him in the 2022 contest”.

“We find the temporary campaign ban as a Machiavellian tactic to intimidate and disadvantage other contenders for the General Secretary position. We, therefore, condemn in no uncertain terms the ban itself and the decision of Mr. John Boadu to violate same to his advantage. The NPP as a firm believer and practitioner of true democratic practices must eschew all forms of intimidation, and incumbency abuse and provide a level playing field for all members of the party in an internal contest. Concerned NPP Members -Northern Region, therefore, call on Mr. John Boadu to desist from campaigning and render an unqualified apology to the rank and file of the NPP,” a statement signed by Alhassan Muniru, President of Concerned NPP Members, Northern Region said.
