    Photos: Robbers gun down MoMo vendor in broad daylight at Krofrom

    A 27-year-old Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor, Patricia Nimako, was tragically shot and killed during a daylight robbery at Krofrom in Kumasi on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

    Eyewitnesses say the attack happened around 3 p.m., shortly after Patricia returned from the bank. Two armed men on a motorbike, posing as customers, approached her shop under the guise of making a withdrawal.

    Without warning, they opened fire, shooting her twice before escaping with GH₵10,000 and her mobile phones.

    Kwabena Owusu, a unit committee member and in-law of the deceased, recounted to Nhyira FM’s Kwadwo Obeng Mireku how they rushed to Patricia’s shop upon hearing gunshots, only to discover the devastating scene.

    “We heard the gunshots and rushed to her shop, only to find her lying in a pool of blood,” he narrated.


    She was immediately taken to the Manhyia Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

    A woman in her twenties was apprehended in Nkawkaw after trying to steal GH¢40,000 from a mobile money vendor.

    She pretended to withdraw money but secretly grabbed the cash, stashing it in her side bag.

    Unaware she was caught on CCTV, she tried to flee but was quickly stopped by residents who recovered the stolen money.

    Though dealt with fairly, she faced public humiliation and heckling from bystanders drawn by the commotion.

    A 23-year-old mobile money vendor identified as Kwabena Gideon, hailing from Awutu Bereku in the Central region, has reportedly taken his own life due to a mounting debt of 16,000 Ghana cedis.

    According to Yaw Boagyan of GHOne News, Kwabena Gideon incurred a loss of 16,000 Ghana cedis in mobile money transactions within a span of just two weeks.

    Police sources reveal that the owner of the mobile money business lodged an official complaint at the Awutu Bereku Police station two days prior, alleging mismanagement of GHC16,000 by his employee.

    The employer also highlighted that the employee had taken down all his social media pictures, turned off his mobile phone, and another phone used for mobile money transactions.

    In an interview with GHOne News, a neighbor named Faustina Asare disclosed that Kwabena Gideon succumbed to the pressure of his debt, leading to his tragic decision to end his life.

    She recounted seeing him quietly behind an unfinished building on Saturday morning, February 24, 2024, but did not engage in conversation. An hour later, she heard cries from neighbors and discovered Kwabena Gideon’s lifeless body at the same location.

    Reportedly married with a one-year-old son, Kwabena Gideon allegedly ingested poison, with eyewitnesses finding a bottle of poison beside him. His lifeless body was transported to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital for autopsy and preservation.

    The police have initiated an investigation into the suspected suicide.

    Expressing sorrow over the incident, the Adontenhene of the Awutu Traditional Council, Nai Ncharkey Okai VII, urged Ghanaians not to resort to suicide when faced with life’s challenges.

    He underscored the importance of seeking support from relatives and trusted friends during difficult times, advocating for a community where people support one another through hardships.

  • Two Nigerians jailed 40 years after botched robbery of Momo vendor

    The Kasoa Odupong Ofaakor Circuit Court has sentenced two Nigerians to 40 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

    The two were arrested by the police after a failed robbery attempt on a mobile money vendor at Kasoa New Market junction on May 17, 2022.

    The convicted persons, Bright Okwara and Ferdinand Obi, pleaded not guilty to attempted robbery and robbery.

    However, the Court presided over by Mr Ebenezer Osei Darko, found them guilty after their trial and sentenced each person to 20 years imprisonment.

    On the day of the incident, a mobile money vendor, Mr Hassan Nuru Yaroh, had gone to withdraw money from the bank for mobile money business when he was attacked.

    The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Amponsah, told the Court that Mr Yaroh withdrew an amount of GH₵11,800 and was on his motorbike to the shop when he noticed another motorbike following him.

    He said realising that he was being followed, Mr Yaroh decided to ride to the police station but unfortunately, his motorbike broke down and the two caught up with him.

    The convicts then snatched the money and sped off but luckily, Mr Yaroh’s bike started again, and he followed them until they were caught up in traffic at the police post near the market junction and he sounded an alarm to alert the people around.

    The victim, according to the Prosecutor, got closer and hit them with his bike, snatched back the money while passers-by surrounded and arrested and handed them over to the police.
