Rapper Medikal blocks Mayorkun for unfollowing him

Ghanaian rapper Medikal is extending his social media blocking spree to Nigerian artists, with Mayorkun being his latest target.

The Beyond Kontrol rapper has made it clear that loyalty matters to him, regardless of the artist’s stature.

In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), Medikal revealed that Mayorkun had unfollowed him on social media, prompting him to take action. This move follows his recent block of Davido for the same reason.

“Loyalty is talent. Davido just unfollowed me, so I made it easier for him by blocking him,” Medikal stated.

He further emphasized his stance on loyalty, stating, “If I’m there for you, you should be there for me, it’s simple.”

The ongoing tension between Ghanaian and Nigerian artists escalated following controversies surrounding Sarkodie’s ‘Brag’ track, where he claimed supremacy over some Nigerian stars.

This sparked reactions from Nigerian artists, including a diss track from Dremo Drizzy aimed at Sarkodie.

Medikal waded into the fray with bold statements on his rap dominance and financial status compared to Nigerian artists.

While his comments were not directly aimed at Davido, the latter’s decision to unfollow and block Medikal amid the escalating tensions has fueled further speculation and debate in the West African music scene.

The involvement of Mayorkun, who is now also blocked by Medikal, adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing rivalry between Ghanaian and Nigerian artists, captivating fans and fueling discussions across social media platforms.

My father forced me to believe in God against my own will – Spyro

Renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, Spyro, has revealed the challenges of his upbringing in a pastor’s household, emphasizing the immense pressure and expectations that inadvertently strained his connection with religion.

As the son of a pastor, Spyro shared that his childhood was dominated by strict spiritual routines and values, including daily Bible readings and dawn fellowship meetings.

Contrary to the intended purpose of bringing him closer to God, Spyro disclosed that the intense atmosphere had the opposite effect, asserting, “The pressure is not good, I must say. I was forced to do it, so I didn’t know who God was. In fact, my dad made me hate God, the personality of God.”

The constant exposure without genuine understanding led to feelings of resentment rather than reverence, as Spyro felt confined by religious routines lacking a meaningful explanation.

Reflecting on his experience, the ‘Only Fine Girl’ hitmaker shared, “My dad went hard on me and my siblings anytime we went astray,” highlighting the challenges of navigating the expectations imposed by his father’s role as a pastor.

  • Russia hits Kyiv with new massive drone attack – Mayor

Russia hits Kyiv with new massive drone attack – Mayor

Local officials have reported that Russia carried out a new major overnight drone attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing at least one person.

Kyiv’s mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said a man died when drone wreckage fell near a petrol station. A woman was injured.

Overall, Russia launched a record 54 so-called kamikaze drones on Ukrainian targets, 52 of which were shot down, Ukraine’s Air Force reported.

In Kyiv alone, more than 40 drones were downed, officials said.

This information has not been independently verified.

Russia – which launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022 – has in recent weeks stepped up its attacks on Kyiv, seeking to overwhelm the capital’s defences.

Earlier on Sunday, air raid alerts were activated in 12 regions of Ukraine, from Volyn in the north-west to Dnipropetrovsk in the south-east.

In a post on social media, Mr Klitschko urged Kyiv residents to “stay in shelters”, warning of waves of drone attacks and a “difficult” night ahead.

He said at least two high-rising buildings in different districts of the capital were on fire after being hit by falling drone fragments.

Kyiv officials also reported that warehouses in the southern Holosiyivsky district were ablaze.

Some officials accused Russia of targeting Kyiv deliberately as residents prepared to celebrate Kyiv Day – the anniversary of the city’s foundation 1500 years ago and a popular holiday before the war.

There were also reports of explosions in the city of Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv.

The air alert was later lifted in the capital and across the country.

In its recent attacks, Russia has been using so-called kamikaze drones as well as a range of cruise and ballistic missiles.

The attacks come ahead of a widely expected Ukrainian counter-offensive.

On Saturday, one of Ukraine’s most senior security officials told the BBC the country was ready to launch such an operation.

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the powerful National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, said an assault to retake territory from President Vladimir Putin’s occupying forces could begin “tomorrow, the day after tomorrow or in a week”.

    • ‘We’re ready to begin counter-offensive’ – Ukraine

Ukraine has been planning a counter-offensive for months. But it has wanted as much time as possible to train troops and to receive military equipment from Western allies.

In the meantime, Russian forces have been preparing their defences in the seized regions of south-eastern Ukraine.

Speaking to the BBC, Andrei Kelin, Russia’s ambassador to the UK, said his country had “enormous resources” and it was yet to “act very seriously”.

Warning that supplies of weapons to Ukraine risk escalating the war to levels not seen so far, he added: “Sooner or later, of course, this escalation may get a new dimension which we do not need and we do not want.”

  • Landing a feature with Davido and Mayorkun was easy – Spyro

Nigeria’s Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro has revealed that getting a collaboration with the “Mayor of Lagos” Mayorkun and “OBO” superstar Davido was not as difficult as it may seem.

The “Billing” hitmaker interviewed on Y107.9FM’s “Ryse n Shyne” show with host, Brown Berry on how he was able to bag a feature from Davido and Mayorkun indicated that both loved his music and hence approached to be featured.

The young Nigerian artiste stated that he has been in the music industry since 2018 which is the year, he had his big break and birthed the song that won the attention of not only Davido but Mayorkun as well.

Spyro termed the song that earned him his big break and features from the two prominent artistes titled “Funke” as “papping” as it gained massive streams all over Africa.

“The song was papping as I said and David kept posting, reposting and showing love,” he reminisced.

The Nigerian entrepreneur shared his experience on how Davido reached out to him from Atlanta, USA, eager to make the verse on the “Funke” song that very day and gave a thrilling mimic of how Davido made the request.

He also shared how excited he was as Mayorkun made a request after and did not mind if Davido was on the feature list.

“I had to confirm if that was Davido because in Nigeria, there are a lot of Davido and I realized that was actually David in my dm. I was so excited and that was it.”

He however mentioned that Mayorkun reached out separately and brought up the idea of hopping on the “Funke remix” train while they had a conversation online.

Fast forward to this year, Spyro and Davido are on it again with a David Oluwasanmi Oludipe and David Adedeji Adeleke exclusive coming out with Spyro’s first single for 2022 titled Billing. Curiously enough, this song expounds the journey of his mus

  • Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Kidi, D’Black, others battle it out for DJs Song of the Year

The DJs song of the year, a category of the Ghana DJ Awards which recognizes songs that were played most by DJs during a year under review, is a fiercely contested bracket.

While the category is an opportunity for the Ghana DJ Awards to honour musicians who produce some of the most played songs by DJs, it is also an opportunity for artists to recognize the importance of DJs in promoting their songs.

Making his first entry into the category is Black Sherif with his popular jam “Kweku the Traveler“. During the year under review, Kweku the Traveler has enjoyed massive airplay on radio, TV, and events across the country and beyond.

In addition, the song broke into the Nigerian market as it became the first Ghanaian song to rank number 1 on the top 100 Music Chart on Apple Music. It is, therefore, not surprising that Killer Blacko made the cut for the DJs song of the year.

Accordingly, after winning last year’s edition with his original hit song “Touch It”, Kidi is back in the sticks. Interestingly, a remixed version of “Touch It”, which features American rapper Tyga, is up for the DJ’s song of the year. So will he do a back-to-back? We await.

Also on the list is Camidoh’s popular jam “Sugar Cane Remix”, which features Nigerian acts Darko and Mayorkun alongside Ghanaian singer King Promise. Camidoh, with this tune, topped Nigerian’s top 100 songs on the Apple Music chart, becoming the second Ghanaian to reach that milestone after Black Sherif.

Receiving enormous airplay by DJs across the country, Sarkodie’s Non-Living Thing, which features Nigerian singer Oxlade got a nod in the category.

Who else is taking on the above? No other than Kuami Eugene with his “Take Over” song which went viral after DJs started giving it a massive spinning on the radio and at pubs across the country. The nomination puts the Lynx signee in close contention with his label mate Kidi for the coveted award.

Fa No Fom hitmaker DJ Azonto is equally on the list for the top prize. The song’s title has grown to become a popular saying among music lovers. Due to the songs catchy lyrics, it has been on rotation across major pubs and clubs as well as event grounds across the country.

D’black is up for the big prize with his song “Sheege”, which features fast-rising Ghanaian female singer Gyakie. The tune has enjoyed popularity among partygoers and attendees as DJs drop it as part of their playlists. It is undoubtedly going to be a tough one.

Finally on the list is Afrobeat sensation Kelvyn Boy’s song “Down Flat”. According to Kelvyn Boy, the song, written in less than 20 minutes, has gone viral worldwide. While the song made giant strides by making great entries on Billboard’s Afrobeat top charts, it made it into almost every DJ’s playlist.

The 10th edition of the Ghana DJ Awards, christened Africa’s Biggest DJ Event, is scheduled to come off on November 5, 2022, at the Silver Star Tower in Accra. Some acts billed to perform include Stonebwoy, Obaapa Christy, Kuami Eugene, Increbible Zigi, Keche, amongst others.
