Mason Mount likely to feature in Burnley clash after hopeful injury comeback

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has indicated that Mason Mount is likely to make his return to action against Burnley this weekend.

Mount, who joined United from Chelsea in a £55 million deal, has been plagued by injuries since his transfer, restricting him to just 17 appearances for the club.

Despite recently recovering from a calf injury, the 25-year-old experienced another setback, causing him to miss United’s last two matches against Sheffield United in the league and Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final.

Ten Hag told BBC’s Match of the Day: “For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don’t expect (the majority of United’s players to make a comeback). Mason Mount, he will return, I think.”

However, Ten Hag also disclosed that there would be no additions to the defensive line, as several key defenders are sidelined due to injury. These include Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and Willy Kambwala.

This has left the Dutch tactician with few options in defense, leading him to deploy Brazilian midfielder Casemiro in central defense.

Despite partnering with Harry Maguire, Casemiro’s inclusion has failed to bring stability to United’s backline, resulting in the team conceding five goals in their last two games.

Yet Tan Hag backed Casemiro’s abilities as a centre-back and said: “I think he’s a very good centre-back, together with Harry. Very stable in and out of possession.”

Mount’s potential return could provide a timely boost to United’s midfield, offering additional creativity and attacking impetus in the crucial stages of the season.

They currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table, three points ahead of Newcastle United but seven behind Tottenham Hotspur who are holding on to the Europa League spot.

After hosting Burnley, they will be in line to face Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton in the Premier League.

Manchester United ready to reportedly offload Mason Mount

Manchester United is reportedly considering replacing summer signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, both of whom have faced criticism for their performances since joining Old Trafford, as per The Guardian.

Mount, 24, and Amrabat, 27, have failed to meet expectations, leading to dissatisfaction among fans.

United manager Erik Ten Hag seems to share this sentiment, as he is reportedly open to offers for the £55 million signing, just six months after his transfer from Chelsea.

Additionally, a permanent deal for Fiorentina loanee Amrabat is not on the table.

Ten Hag is poised to be active in the January transfer market to strengthen the squad, following a recent run of five, albeit unconvincing, wins in six games.

The club is reportedly interested in RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner as well as Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. Other names linked to United include Benfica center-back António Silva and AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

Securing Silva might pose a challenge, as Benfica has stated their reluctance to part with the Portuguese international for anything less than his release clause of €100 million.

Battle for No. 10 shirt : Mason Mount or new capt? Bruno Fernandez details

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and new signing Mason Mount are set to compete for the coveted No. 10 position in the upcoming season.

According to Fernandes, manager Erik ten Hag has not reached a decision on whether he or Mount will take on the role of No. 10 for the Red Devils in the upcoming season.

Mount, who joined Manchester United from Chelsea in a £60 million ($76 million) transfer, possesses great versatility, capable of playing in various positions, including as a playmaker, wide forward, or central midfielder.

As the season approaches, Fernandes admits that he is unsure about who will ultimately secure the No. 10 spot for Manchester United in the new campaign.

The competition between the two talented midfielders promises to be intense as they both aim to make a significant impact on the team.

“No, we haven’t spoken about that decision. It’s the manager who makes that decision. Both of us can play in many roles… We are really happy to have him here, wherever he plays, as a 10 or 8 or wing. We can both do that. The most important thing is that we help the team succeed,” he told reporters.

“I said this a couple of years ago, that he [Mount] is one of the best players in the Premier League at the time and I hope he can do it again because he is a really good player and he is still really young – he has a long way to go. He is really good at pressing, he has a lot of energy, and really good on the ball.

“He has goals and assists in him too. He can create chances so we are expecting a lot from him but he is aware of that. He is at a big club and he knows the expectations on him will be big,” he added.

Fernandes sent a hilarious welcome message to Mount by posting two pictures of a past duel with Mount from when United drew 1-1 with Chelsea at Old Trafford in the 2021-22 season. He has now spoken highly of Mount’s passion and aggression and vowed to defend his new team-mate.

“We need players with that kind of aggression and passion, we need players to be like that in the games.

“These are the kind of players that I like to play against and even more to have in my side so I am happy he is here now.

“And now instead of me on the side of David, it’s me on the side of Mason defending him from someone else. Now he is on my side and I will do everything I can to defend him,” he said.

The midfield duo will be in action against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday evening at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Didier Drogba speaks on Mason Mount’s move to Utd

Didier Drogba, a legend of Chelsea, has sent Mason Mount his best wishes on his transfer to Manchester United.

While the player’s transfer marked the end of his 18-year relationship with the Blues, Drogba referred to Mount in his letter as the “prince” of Chelsea.

“Another prince leaving the club of his life. Thank you and all the very best to you, champs” he said as quoted by oneofourowncfc.

Mount joins Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the list of academy graduates who have departed the club this summer.

He joined the Red Devils for a transfer fee of £55 million and £5 million add-ons. He has signed a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year.

  • I knew I was not in Chelsea’s plans ‘several months ago’ – Mason Mount

I knew I was not in Chelsea’s plans ‘several months ago’ – Mason Mount

Mason Mount, the newly signed Manchester United player, has revealed that he departed Chelsea as it became evident “several months ago” that he did not feature in the club’s long-term plans.

Mount told MUTV: “Several months ago I think it became clear that I wasn’t in Chelsea’s plans moving forward and once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made.

“It’s a massive club, huge, iconic players have played here, and I wanted to be a part of that from the beginning. Getting in early, ready for pre-season to start, was a main objective of mine as well.”

The English midfielder finalized his transfer from Chelsea to Manchester United this week, securing a contract until 2028, with a potential extension of one more year. The initial transfer fee is believed to be £55 million.

At 24 years of age, Mason Mount, who had been associated with Chelsea for 18 years, accumulated 195 appearances for the club, scoring 33 goals. His contributions played a crucial role in Chelsea’s triumph in the 2021 Champions League.

Reflecting on his playing style, Mount expressed his self-perception as a midfielder, specifically as a dynamic number eight. He emphasized his ability to contribute offensively by scoring and creating goals while also highlighting his commitment to defensive duties and supporting the team during challenging moments.

This balanced approach is a significant aspect of his focus as a player.

Mount, set to wear the number seven shirt in Erik ten Hag’s United team, cut short a family holiday in Disneyland to finalise the deal.

He said: “We had a little trip to Disneyland, for the niece mainly – I enjoyed it as well, of course!

“We came back a bit early just to make our way up here, drive up here, see what the trip’s like and everything. But it was well worth it, and it’s great to be up here now.

“It’s been an amazing couple of days, coming here, seeing everyone, meeting everyone at the training ground, such a warm welcome. I feel very much at home already.”

  • Fmr Utd star says Chelsea will “regret selling Mason Mount

Fmr Utd star says Chelsea will “regret selling Mason Mount

Shortly after Manchester United officially announced the transfer of midfielder Mason Mount, former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand made a bold statement.

Ferdinand expressed his belief that Mount will thrive at Old Trafford, while also suggesting that Chelsea will come to regret their decision to sell the talented midfielder.

On Wednesday, July 5, Manchester United introduced Mount as their newest signing, completing a deal reportedly valued at £60 million.

The transfer saga surrounding Mount finally concluded, with Manchester United successfully securing the services of the English international, who had only one year left on his contract with Chelsea.

In his first sentiments as a Red, Mount revealed his delight at joining the club, adding that United would provide “an exciting new challenge”.

“Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I’m joining, and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies. The 24-year old said as quoted on the Man United website.

After confirmation of the first summer signing, Rio Ferdinand took to his social media to react to United acquiring a new Number 7 following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Really pleased with Mount coming in. Young, talented & hungry. He has the experience of big games with pressure which comes when playing for Utd,” Ferdinand started before taunting Chelsea fans with a ‘regret’ claim.

“As a player, he will bring us goals, creativity, a work ethic & a willing runner into the opposition box.

“He definitely adds to what we have in the squad and is different from the others in midfield. I actually think in time Chelsea will regret selling Mount. Now for a No.9.”

As reported on BBC, Mount met up with Erik Ten Hag and was impressed with the gaffer’s plans for the club.

He was offered the Number 7 shirt during discussions as a show of how much they wanted him to become the club’s first summer signing. The shirt number was previously worn by Ronaldo and before that, David Beckham.

    Chelsea departures

The England international is the latest Chelsea player to leave Stamford Bridge, as he follows a string of superstars to the exit door.

Ruben Loftus Cheek (AC Milan), Kai Havertz (Arsenal), Kovacic (Man City), N’golo Kante (Al-Ittihad), Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy (Al Hilal) are some of the big names that have left Chelsea ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign at the club.

    Mount’s cute video copying CR7

There were also reports of Mason Mount’s video as a child where he was mimicking Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo is arguably football’s biggest influencer with his lifestyle, fashion and goal celebration, a global phenomenon copied by colleagues and football lovers worldwide.

Mount is not left out of being a Ronaldo fanboy and spoke about how he modelled his freekick technique after the Portuguese, from his days at Cobham Academy.

“Sad to say bye” as Chelsea star James bids farewell to old friend Mason

Following Mason Mount’s decision to depart Chelsea for Manchester United, his longtime friend Reece James expressed his sadness at bidding farewell.

Mount, 24, completed a move to United today, signing a five-year contract with the possibility of extending it for an additional 12 months.

This marked the end of Mount’s 18-year tenure with Chelsea, a decision that was undoubtedly difficult for him.

James, who shared a journey with Mount from their youth days at Chelsea to representing their country together, openly conveyed his anguish at seeing his childhood teammate leave their beloved club.

Writing on Instagram, he said: “Ma brother man. Where do I start?

“I’ve known you since six, we grew together and took similar paths in breaking into the first team.

“Something that seemed virtually impossible. I’m proud to say I done it alongside you.

“I’ve seen you as a little boy and watched you grow into the man and player you are today — you’ve done yourself and your family proud.

“We’ve had some of the best days of our career together that’ll stick with me forever.

“It’s sad to say goodbye. I wish you nothing but happiness, good health and the best of luck on your new adventure!

“You’ll always be blue at heart!”

Within minutes of James posting his heartfelt farewell, Mount thanked his former team-mate.

He replied: “My brother from day one, so many memories shared together. Thank you RJ.”

After completing his switch to Old Trafford, Mount said: “It’s never easy leaving the club where you grew up but United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career.

“Having competed against them, I know how strong a squad it is that I’m joining and I can’t wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies.

“Everyone can see the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag.

“Having met the manager and discussed his plans, I couldn’t be more excited and am ready for the hard work expected here.

“I’m hugely ambitious. I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it.

“I’ll be giving everything to experience that again at United.”

Mount confirms Chelsea exit in an Instagram post, as Utd await his coming

Mason Mount, the 24-year-old midfielder, has announced his departure from Chelsea
after spending an impressive 18 years at the club.

Mount, who emerged from the ranks of the Chelsea academy to the first-team squad, made his senior debut in 2019.

Throughout his career at Stamford Bridge, he has contributed 27 goals and 22 assists in 129 Premier League appearances.

In recent developments, it appears that Manchester United is on the brink of finalizing a deal to acquire Mount.

In light of this news, the talented midfielder took to Instagram to express his farewell to the Blues.

He said: “Hi Chelsea fans, given the speculation over the last six months this may not come as a surprise to you.

“But it doesn’t make it any easier to tell you that I’ve made the decision to leave Chelsea.

“I feel you deserve more than just a written statement, so I wanted to tell you directly how grateful I’ve been for all of your support over the last 18 years.

“I know some of you won’t be happy with my decision but it’s what’s right for me at this moment in my career.

“I joined Chelsea when I was six and we’ve been through a lot together.

“Winning the Youth Cup, my Player of the Year awards, the Super Cup, the Club World Cup and of course that unforgettable night when we won the Champions League.

“I want to say thank you to the academy, Jim [Fraser] and Neil [Bath], for being so influential to me from such a young age.

“The managers I’ve worked under, Frank [Lampard], Thomas [Tuchel] and Graham [Potter], the backroom staff, the unsung heroes of Cobham, all of my team-mates over the years that have become my brothers.

“My family for the continuous love and support and most importantly you guys for sticking with me throughout. Wish you all the best.”

Mason Mount set for medicals ahead Man Utd move

Mason Mount was photographed arriving for his medical examinations on Monday morning ahead of his anticipated move to Manchester United.

Last week, news emerged that Chelsea and United had reached an agreement on a transfer fee of approximately 60 million euros for the talented English midfielder.

According to Sky Sports, the Chelsea academy product is expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the possibility of extending it for an additional year, pending the successful completion of his medical tests.

Several Manchester United sources have confirmed that Mount was driven to the club’s training base in Carrington.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the official announcement of the transfer is likely to take place later this week.

Earlier reports suggested that Mount’s contract with Chelsea would expire next summer, and negotiations between him and his childhood club had failed to reach an agreement.

The disparity in contract length and salary demands is believed to be the primary factor behind the impasse between the parties.

    Mount imitates Ronaldo’s technique

Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best free-kick takers of all time and has scored some iconic ones. He has a distinct technique of standing elegantly over the ball before hitting.

Ronaldo is arguably football’s biggest influencer with his lifestyle, fashion, and goal celebration, a global phenomenon copied by colleagues and football lovers worldwide.

Mount is also a Ronaldo fanboy and spoke about how he modelled his freekick technique after the Portuguese, from his days at Cobham Academy.

It was also reported that Mount brings something different to United, and coach Erik ten Hag will need to find the best set-up in the new season.

  • Chelsea fans praise Reece James for loyalty to club after Mount’s move to Man Utd

Chelsea fans praise Reece James for loyalty to club after Mount’s move to Man Utd

Reece James is receiving adoration from Chelsea supporters as he remains committed to his roots as a graduate of the club’s academy, particularly with the news of Manchester United’s agreement to sign Mason Mount.

Chelsea’s Cobham Academy has gained a reputation for nurturing talented players, although only a few have successfully made it to the senior team. However, this changed when Frank Lampard took over as manager in 2019.

Lampard’s arrival coincided with a transfer ban, prompting him to hand first-team debuts to eight academy prospects, including James, Mount, Abraham, and Tomori.

James is the only one left at the club of those eight after The Athletic reported that Chelsea and United have agreed on a fee of £60m including add-ons for Mount.

    Chelsea pride in Reece James

Mount has received a lot of backlash since it emerged he has chosen Old Trafford as his preferred destination after he rejected contract offers from West London.

Shortly after the agreement between the clubs was confirmed, a fan wrote on Twitter: ‘Reece James to Arsenal, who says no’ and the defender was quick to respond ‘I say no’.

The club’s Twitter admin was quick to quote the tweet and wrote ‘One of our own’ and added a picture of the player shushing the away crowd after scoring against Arsenal.

Another Cobham star, Trevoh Chalobah, who was handed his debut by Thomas Tuchel, expressed sadness at Mount’s departure and tweeted ‘My boy’ with a tear and heartbreak emoji.

Spanish media AS reported that Real Madrid are interested in James, after he shone against them in the UEFA Champions knockout stages. However, he has a contract at Chelsea until 2029.

    Thiago Silva’s emotional reaction

Sports Brief reported that Thiago Silva gave an emotional reaction when the news broke that Mount will not be continuing at the club next season.

The Brazilian veteran defender dropped two teary emoji on the news on Instagram, showing how much the 24-year-old is loved by his teammates.

Silva could also leave Chelsea in a year’s time. He has one year left on his contract and is reportedly interested in a return to Brazil with former club Fluminese.

  • Mixed feelings as fans learn Man Utd have agreed £60m deal for Mason Mount

Mixed feelings as fans learn Man Utd have agreed £60m deal for Mason Mount

Reports suggest that Manchester United is set to pay Chelsea a sum of £60m for the transfer of Mason Mount, despite the midfielder having only one year left on his contract.

Fans have expressed mixed reactions on social media following the news of this potential deal between the two clubs.

After a prolonged saga involving Mount, it seems that United and Chelsea have reached an agreement, with renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano indicating the agreed fee to be around £60m.

Earlier in the week, Chelsea had rejected a £55m offer from United, who were growing increasingly frustrated at how negotiations were going, but never gave up their pursuit.

Erik Ten Hag was keen on making Mount his first summer signing, and it appears he will finally have his man, as a medical is scheduled before the coming week.

    Is Mount’s fee too high?

While there is no denying Mason Mount is a brilliant acquisition for Manchester United, rival fans felt the club should have paid far less for his services.

Part of the reason for this is because Mount made it clear he wanted to leave Stamford Bridge, and his contract with the Blues was running out fast.

Here are some reactions from fans:

    @Tunnykvg said:

“Man United will always pay. I knew it.”

While @cfcenzo was distraught to see Mount leave, saying:

“I never thought he would leave Chelsea but it is what it is. We move! In a way I’m happy that this saga finally comes to an end.”

    @crissybear said:

“60 what??? 40million got Maddison who is a better player.”

According to Fabrizio, Mount will sign a five year deal at Manchester United as personal terms were agreed days before the two clubs found common ground.

    Vardy rejects Saudi Arabia move

Sports Brief also reported on how Jamie Vardy reportedly turned down the chance to move to Saudi Arabia.

The veteran striker turned down the Middle East despite Leicester’s relegation as he believes it would not be a good move for his family.

Leicester have already lost one of their superstars after their drop, with James Maddison on the verge of sealing a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

  • Man Utd to end Mason Mount pursuit if 3rd bid is rejected

Man Utd to end Mason Mount pursuit if 3rd bid is rejected

Manchester United is set to increase their offer for midfielder Mason Mount after Chelsea turned down their initial two bids.

The Blues are reportedly seeking a fee close to £65m for the player. United is also keeping an eye on the situation of Declan Rice, the West Ham captain, who is being pursued by Arsenal and Manchester City.

United is preparing a third bid for Mason Mount, which is expected to be around £55m. However, if Chelsea rejects this offer, United will likely end their pursuit.

The club’s previous bids, including add-ons, were worth £50m, but Chelsea’s valuation is higher. United has set a limit on how much they are willing to pay for a player who has just one year remaining on his contract.

United retain an interest in West Ham captain Declan Rice and there have been discussions internally about how possible it would be to sanction a deal.

Man City and Arsenal are also interested in Rice, with Sky in Italy reporting City are prepared to pay £75m + £15m in bonuses payable across two years for the midfielder.

Reporter Gianluca Di Marzio added on Thursday evening that Rice is getting closer to a City move and there is confidence an agreement can be made.

Due to Financial Fair Play rules, it’s unlikely United could spend a huge portion of their budget on one player – especially as they have other areas they want to strengthen.

For that reason, they are looking at a number of other options in midfield. Potential sales of players would, however, increase their spending power.

Erik ten Hag first bumped into Mount when he was Ajax head coach. On loan at Vitesse Arnhem, the 18-year-old’s free-kick led to his side’s third goal as they beat Ajax 3-2 in March 2018.

Ten Hag, then in charge of just his eighth game at Ajax, reportedly tried to sign Mount for the Dutch club on loan from Chelsea the following season. Fourteen goals and 10 assists in his first full campaign of senior football, largely from central midfield, had caught Ten Hag’s attention.

The likelihood of Mount staying at Stamford Bridge is remote with the midfielder unwilling to sign a new deal. Chelsea know this is the time to cash in on a player who has just one year left on his contract.

Ten Hag, it seems, could be about to get his man.

Mason Mount has one year left on his Stamford Bridge contract, and Manchester United has seen its £50 million deal for him rejected by Chelsea.

This is the second time Erik ten Hag’s team has had a bid rejected by Chelsea. Mount is unlikely to agree to new terms.

Manchester United’s second offer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been rejected.

The second offer is believed to be worth £50 million, including £5 million in performance-related add-ons and £45 million in guaranteed money.

United clearly want to sign the England international but have a valuation in mind, which they are unlikely to go beyond.

Negotiations are expected to continue for Mount, who has one year left on his Chelsea contract.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this month United had made an opening offer worth £40m for Mount, which Chelsea also immediately knocked back.

Chelsea defender pleads with Mason Mount to stay at Stamford Bridge instead of joining Man Utd

Mason Mount has been urged to reconsider staying at Stamford Bridge by Chelsea star Ben Chilwell.

Manchester United is said to be the top candidate for Mount’s services, and he has been linked to a potential exit this summer.

The Blues midfielder is destined to quit his childhood club after failing to reach a new contract agreement, according to The Guardian, who claims that United have already started negotiations with Chelsea regarding a deal for Mount.

The publication claimed the Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with the Englishman ahead of a possible Old Trafford switch.

Be that as it may, the Manchester club will have to contend with competition from Arsenal and Liverpool in their pursuit of the Chelsea academy graduate.

    Chilwell sends message to Mount

Chilwell, who is understood to be close pals with Mount, has now urged the midfielder to reject a move to Manchester United and stay at Chelsea.

The former Leicester City ace made the plea when he was asked about his friend’s future while at the Spanish Grand Prix.

“It’s none of my business personally, but he is my best mate so I would love him to stay,” Chilwell told Sky Sports, via The Mirror.

“If he goes, everyone will be sad to see him go,” the left-back added.

Mount has just a year left on his Chelsea contract, with the Blues keen to cash in on him rather than lose him on a free transfer after next season.

ThatGuyLeee uploaded the video on Twitter and captioned it as the midfielder’s ‘highlights of the season’, sparking many reactions.

  • It may be difficult for Pochettino to keep Mason Mount at Chelsea

It may be difficult for Pochettino to keep Mason Mount at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino is set to face a significant challenge in retaining Mason Mount at Chelsea.

The new manager has identified the midfielder’s contract situation, valued at £60 million, as a key priority when he assumes his role at the end of the season.

However, it appears that Pochettino’s arrival has come too late to salvage the ongoing negotiations, and it seems likely that Mount, a highly regarded player among Chelsea fans, will depart his childhood club after being with them for 18 years.

At 24 years old, Mount has just over a year remaining on his current contract, and discussions have reached an impasse after ten months.

    Mason Mount in action

SunSport can reveal Mount was offered a one-year extension by Chelsea in February but this was flatly rejected and seen as a ploy simply to raise his transfer fee.

Relations between the player’s representatives and the club are at an all-time low and Pochettino needs a “miracle” to turn it round.

A Blues source said: “It feels like it is too late now for Mason.

“Pochettino is good but he can’t work miracles.

“If he had been brought in when Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel in September then maybe it would be a different story.

“But in ten months there hasn’t been any resolution and other clubs want him. Good luck to Poch and Mason but we’re not hopeful.”

Mauricio Pochettino is allegedly Chelsea’s new coach

Mount is injured but eyeing a return for the final two games this season — at Manchester United then home to Newcastle on May 28.

That could well be the end of the England star’s Blues journey, which started when he was six.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal have been strongly linked with interest in Mount.

And Chelsea will sell if he does not sign a new deal as they do not want him leaving for free at the end of next season.

This season in Premier League, Chelsea’s form is Average overall with 11 wins, 9 draws, and 14 losses.

This performance currently places Chelsea at 11th out of 20 teams in the Premier League Table, winning 32% of matches.

Chelsea’s home form is poor with the following results : 6 wins, 5 draws, and 6 losses.
