Mallam who allegedly killed 8 children in Tamale shouldn’t have been granted bail – CRI

Child Rights International has voiced dismay at the Northern Region police’s decision to grant bail to Mallam Madaha, a spiritual leader in Kakpayili near Tamale.

This decision by the police comes after the Mallam confessed to murdering eight children and storing their dismembered bodies in his house.

The group’s comment follows police confirmation that they have launched investigations into the deaths of two children in Kakpayili, Tamale.

Parents and residents of Kakpayili remain shocked and outraged after discovering the severely decomposed bodies of the missing children in pieces in Mallam Madaha’s residence.

The bodies, which went missing on June 22, 2024, have been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Mallam Madaha, arrested on Sunday, has been released on bail, and his current whereabouts are unknown, despite confessing to six additional killings.

In an interview with Beatrice Adu on the Midday News program on 3FM, Mr. Bright Appiah expressed dissatisfaction with the police’s management of the case, noting that he believed there was room for more effective handling.

Mallam-Kasoa flood gridlock due to delay in accessing funds for construction of storm drain – Roads Minister

Roads and Highways Minister, Francis Asenso Boakye, has acknowledged that delays in securing funds for the construction of a storm drain contributed to the traffic gridlock experienced during Monday’s heavy rainfall in the Mallam-Kasoa area.

Francis Asenso Boakye expressed frustration over the bureaucratic processes required to secure funding for major storm drain construction along the Weija-Kasoa stretch, citing it as a significant challenge.

The torrential downpour on Monday afternoon left commuters stranded for hours, with some spending nearly nine hours in traffic.

The situation was exacerbated by silt obstructing both sides of the road and numerous vehicles breaking down.

Addressing journalists after assessing the affected stretch, Mr. Asenso-Boakye emphasized the need for prompt action.

“People would have wished that this had been resolved many years ago, but unfortunately, we didn’t have the funds to do it,” he said.

The Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly Engineer, Dr. Daniel Sowah, outlined ongoing efforts to address the issue, including the construction of a storm drain to redirect water flow and alleviate flooding in the area.

Fix our roads if you want our votes – Mallam residents to govt

Residents of Mallam, situated along the ‘borla’ road within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, took to the streets on Thursday in protest, demanding the asphaltation of the 1km road.

Approximately a hundred residents participated in the demonstration, escorted by police officers.

They brandished placards bearing messages urging authorities to address the road issue, with slogans such as “No road, no vote.”

Despite the observation by the news team of a pile of stones and coarse sand on the road shoulders, residents claimed it was merely a superficial attempt to appease them, rather than a genuine effort to resolve the problem.

Spokesperson for the group, Abel Tetteh, expressed disappointment in the lack of regard shown by local authorities and the failure of the Member of Parliament (MP) and assembly members to tackle the road issue.

Mr Tetteh questioned the government’s commitment to asphalting the roads, highlighting that other neighborhoods in Accra have received asphalt roads while they continue to wait for theirs.

Now, the residents are making a direct appeal to the government to intervene and provide the necessary assistance to improve their road conditions.

“It has happened, because these people do not respect us, first of all, they invited us, they didn’t come to us again. We want an asphalt [road] with a white line.

“The government said he’s doing asphalt everywhere. So where is ours? So we’re appealing to the government that he should come to our aid and come and do our road for us.

“We don’t want the MP to come again because the MP has failed us, and the assembly members too have failed us…we the residents concerned, residents of Bola Road, are tired of the road and the dust for 30 years now we are not okay with the dust.”

Abel Tetteh, the group’s leader, spoke to Citi News, expressing their disappointment in the lack of respect shown by local authorities and the failure of the Member of Parliament (MP) and assembly members to address the problem.

Mallam narrowly escapes harm after setting himself on fire during money ritual

During a live interview, Alhaji Malam Zaaki’s attempt to showcase his supposed spiritual ability to make money almost ended in disaster as he came close to setting himself on fire.

Requesting the interviewer to light his head while he poured an inflammable liquid on his cap, Zaaki’s intentions quickly turned dangerous. Before complying, the male interviewer expressed a disclaimer, ensuring he wouldn’t be held accountable if anything went wrong.

As Zaaki recited incantations and lit the cloth on his upper body, the interviewer, startled, jumped from his seat. The fire quickly escalated, prompting panic.

As the flames grew, the Mallam tried to extinguish them, and the interviewer, in a moment of concern, grabbed the microphone from Zaaki’s body.

After the incident, Zaaki defended his actions, stating that he had to put out the flames to prevent more money from mysteriously appearing, supposedly from his spiritual abilities.

Kasoa ritual murder: I did not conspire with first accused to consult a spiritualist for wealth

The 18-year-old implicated in the alleged Kasoa ritual murder case has contradicted the assertions made by State Prosecutors, denying that he and the 15-year-old juvenile planned to seek spiritual powers for wealth.

The second accused has also contested allegations suggesting that he had discussions with the first accused about a potential trip to the Volta Region for spiritual assistance if the priest in Amasaman did not meet their expectations.

Both teenagers face charges of conspiracy and the murder of 10-year-old Ishmael Mensah Abdallah before the High Court in Accra, under the jurisdiction of Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.

While the 15-year-old juvenile (1st Accused) has admitted to the offense, stating that they “committed the crime together,” the 18-year-old (2nd Accused) has denied the charges.

Currently, State Prosecutors, led by Nana Adoma Osei, are subjecting the 18-year-old to cross-examination to scrutinize the credibility of his testimony before the High Court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo.

Mallam defiles 6-year-old; leaves her in critical condition

A KG2 pupil, whose identity is being withheld, from Twifo Ampekro in the Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region, is battling for survival after reportedly being sexually assaulted by a self-proclaimed Mallam called John Afedzi, also known as A.T

Sarah Antwi, the victim’s mother, told the media that she noticed significant changes in her daughter’s walking pattern.

Following extensive investigations by the unit committee, Mallam’s name was revealed as allegedly defiling the minor.
